Hey there JFT Peeps! Just got caught up with posts and I'm sending prayers, hugs, cheers and love to everyone.
@mytime6630 I am SO sorry to hear about the tragedy at your community center. That is horrible and something nobody would ever expect to happen. I wish I could give you a big hug, but maybe you can feel the cyber hug I'm sending?
I've been going to classes and trying to participate as much as possible in the Executive Edge Challenge, but of course as luck would have it, I started having pain and burning in my knee. Went to see my doctor and she sent me to Orthopedic doctor. Saw him this morning and my right knee is now bone-on-bone with bone spurs growing. I've been instructed no more of the group classes, no treadmill, no squats or lunges or anything. I'm on antiinflammatory, getting a targeted cryotherapy to the knee to try to help the pain and am not supposed to do any type of exercise for 2-3 weeks except swimming. Then I can add bicycle or elliptical to it, but that's it. I'm disappointed, of course, but my trainer is going to try to help me strengthen other muscles including quads, etc, so that will be good. I can still earn points for the challenge by attending the lectures on nutrition twice a week and by seeing the trainer, so I guess it is what it is. I'm still learning a lot and taking away as much as I can from this opportunity. I'm bummed to hear that I'm going to end up with a knee replacement...that scares the heck out of me! Hopefully I can put that off for a few years.
This weekend we will begin packing for our winter vacation to Arizona and I can't tell you how excited I am!! Getting out of the cold snow for a week is just what my husband and I need. When we get back, we will have a few days and then my husband and my brother will be heading down to pack up my mom's house and move her up here. We close on her house near us in a few weeks, the day before we go on vacation. Pretty exciting stuff going on around here lately. Never a dull moment!
J4T - Wednesday- Make mindful choices / Journal every bite / Close food journal at end of day
- Increase water intake
- Core strengthening exercise of some kind
- Executive Edge Challenge - Dietitian Assignment: Research Whole 30 vs Mediterranean vs Diabetic diets and recipes for good carb & protein choices. Watch videos Deb sent. Read Chapter 1 & 2 of the Eating Healthy book. Review the websites Deb sent. (This is ongoing assignment, due next Monday night.)
- Prepare for tomorrow: Pack lunchbox / Set out outfit / set backpack near door
- Update checkbook
- Lymphatic massage - right arm
- Set alarm on phone for one hour before bedtime as reminder to wind down. Lights off 10:30
- Gratitude Journal / Daily Inspirational readings
WOTY: Persistence

@Snowflake1968 I hope you feel better soon! xxoo
@teigansdad How cool to have your daughter tell you that you don't have a dad bod anymore! Nicely done! I am going on vacation in two weeks and am a bit worried about overdoing the food too, but I'm going to try to get up and take a walk in the morning and let myself live but try to be mindful with my choices at the same time. (if that makes sense?) Good luck with the packing and have a Great trip!
@azulvioleta6 Your FitBit deathmatch with your dad made me chuckle! LOL!
@meraki6 Your zucchini story made me laugh! I'm not the "cook" in our house either...my husband does it. He says "I don't like to cook either, but I like to eat! Someone has to do it!" The truth is, I'm lousy at it but I collect cookbooks because I love looking at recipes and pictures of food so yeah....I'm weird. Welcome to the group!
@Bex953172 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CASEY!!!!
@awhit4842 I had to giggle at how you solved the problem of being able to see the cake....it's my typical way of handling that issue too. LOL
@pridesabtch Your trip to Boston sounds so cool!!! I had not heard of Quincy Market or The Freedom Trail, so I looked it up. I've now added them to my bucket list! Have a fantastic time!4 -
@mytime6630 - prayers for you. That is so tragic and scary. 💕💕0

WFTY: DEPTH
Depth Year - UpdatesI definitely have way too much stuff. I need to streamline my existence, resist adding more stuff, and start using what I have already got. I have been working towards doing this for several years with my decluttering. I need to stop the march of consumerism, and putting money into the pockets of other people by buying things I want rather than actually need.Daily Goals
03 Jan: This is going to be way harder than I thought. Need to work out strategies and guidelines for what I can and cannot purchase.- I have a stack of books which I haven't read. I will read one of those book a month, and not buy any more books this year. I will source any other books I want to read at the library.
- Book 1: The Illusionists - Rosie Thomas ✅
- Book 2: Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine, Gail Honeyman✅
- Book 3: Nothern Lights Ch 8
- I have closets full of clothes that no longer fit. I will work my way through them over the next two months, and either alter them to fit, or donate them to charity.
- 07 Jan: One bag already full and ready to go to the charity shop
- I have a lot of Craft supplies. I will optimise what I have before I buy any new supplies. Sticking to this one will be difficult.
- 07 Jan: Depth Year: I have Patchwork Craft this morning. I will pick out one of my ongoing projects and work on it to completion. No new projects until I have finished at least 3 ongoing ones.
- 14 Jan: Craft Group: working on patchwork project from last Tues.
- Food: log All food and drink; stay under goal; balance macros/micros; Hydrate adequately; NLNS!!!
- Exercise: Knee Physio; 7,500+ Steps daily; 30 + minutes intentional exercise

☘️☘️ ☘️ ☘️☘️ ☘️ ☘️ Shamrock Challenge (17, 18, 19, 22, 24, 25, 26)
So, JFT, Wed
1. going to lunch with gym friends .. make wise choices Got a ceasar salad with no dressing, and just water. No beer!
2. concentrate on water
3. get daughters taxes done Ready to take in now
4. mindful eating
Tonite has been such a sad day for me, but I have to stay strong and not let hubby know what I read. I have to stop doing my own research, and wait until we talk to the radiolgist tomorrow. But on the report, they called his prostate cancer "castration-resistant". This is why they are not doing surgery. So .. I googled it. It says this has a bleak outcome, the average survival is 13 months. So I am sick. I have not said anything to my husband. . he said he is going to ask the doctor tomorrow what that means .. I have not told him I researched it. But when I googled it, it sounds so scary. Like its going to keep spreading, and he will be in pain, because eventually it will spread to his bones. The radiation and therapies may slow it down some. After a good cry in the bathroom so he would not see me, I grabbed my yarn and crochet needles, and went and sat beside him while he listens to music.
I do not know how to crochet! I mostly sew. But I thought what better time to learn... keeps my mind busy, I can sit near him, and not be on the internet scaring myself. I will wait until we talk to the doctor, and hope they give us lots of encouragement.
SO goals for tomorrow again are simple. It has been a hard month, and with the shooting last nite harder. So I am trying not to push myself, and just maintain.
JFT, Thurs
1. log all food
2. concentrate on water
3. keep thoughts positive. Do not let my mind wander and think of worse cases
4. going to doctor with hubby.... pray for the best, and pray they can start treatment soon. THis is the worse .. the waiting.
5. work on chemo hate
6. work on crochets .. one step at a time

Hello my team,
I hope everyone is doing alright on 1/2way through day. Had a good day but was pretty run down by the end. I don't think I got enough calories at the start of my day, and I haven't been sleeping well. Looking forward to the March sleep challenge I'm going to do.
@asthesoapturns Welcome and good luck to you!
@beachwalker99 You're on! March 1st it is!
@pridesabtch 100% WOO HOO! Nicely done, keep up that momentum
@mytime6630 That sounds terrifying-I am so sorry something like that happed in one of your safe spaces. Thinking of you during this time. I can't imagine how stressful that would be. Good luck tomorrow, hopefully you get some helpful answers. *hugs* my friend, and take care of you.
@PackerFanInGB That news would be hard to hear, but I'm glad your looking to what you can do. I've had a few friends/family that did the knee replacement. I won't lie, it's a tough initial recovery, but they said it makes a world of difference once you're through and they feel MUCH better.
@TerriRichardson112 can you add a shamrock for today (26) Thanks!

@mytime6630 - what a tragedy. I don’t and will never understand how people think that the way to solve their problems is by hurting others.
I am so sorry that you have read what you did on the internet about your husbands illness, I hope the doctor has better news for you.
@cschmitz110515 - good for you for getting our walking.
@PackerFanInGB - that knee sounds incredibly painful! Listen to the doctors
I went to a talk on Dementia tonight at work. It was interesting, I took about 10 pages of notes.
I have known for a number of years that Dementia is really the symptom of several diseases, but didn’t realize that 60 different diseases cause dementia. Of course, Alzheimer’s is about 60% the second is Vascular Dystrophy which is mostly brought on by our own habits, high blood pressure, high blood sugars and smoking are leading causes.

@bookmeister86 Love the sound of pancake day! Is this a family tradition, or a friend event? Glad to hear you found less is more satisfying!
Pancake day is amazing! Can't believe you don't have it, you're missing out (where are you based again?)
It's a historical tradition, takes place the day before the forty days of Lent. Traditionally people fasted in Lent so the day before they used up all the fatty sugary things by making pancakes, so they weren't available in the fasting period. These days, I don't think anyone fasts for forty days (though some people do give up certain things) but we do the pancakes still as they are yummy
This is a link with details of pancake day including what these pancakes are like (they are not like American pancakes, they're more like French crepes - and actually the ones we had were crepes as my boyfriend is French and made them!)

I'm really sorry to hear what you read what you did. I agree with Snowflake that you should wait to hear what the doctor says. There is a lot of misleading (and contradictory) information on the internet so better to listen to a trusted expert. Taking up crochet to keep yourself away from internet research sounds like an excellent idea!
Even if it does turn out to be true, 'average' is often a very unhelpful term. We are all different and respond to illnesses and treatments in different ways. Your hubby could well respond better, even MUCH better, than the 'average'.
Will be thinking of you and praying for you both. Xx2 -
A good day yesterday and ended in the green - can I have a shamrock please @TerriRichardson112 ? (That was the 26th).
Today I will not be in the green as I am going out for Thai food for lunch, however I am running to work (despite the fact that it is cold and raining) and should be able to stay in maintenance. I'll have to get shamrocks on other days (not sure when as I'm going out/away a lot over the next few days, but hopefully I can manage the odd one!)
Yesterday's goals:
- Track all food and drink
- Be in the green with a deficit
- Not have unplanned snacks/ binge outside the home
- 45+ min lunch break
- Go for a walk at lunch
- (If time) read relationship article

- Positive affirmations
- Finish by 6pm 6.30
- Talk to boyfriend in French
- French book

- Gratitude journal
- Lights off by 11

@PackerFanInGB - so sorry to hear about your knee. I know you’re disappointed about not being able to fully participate in the work challenge, but I can’t help think that you were selected at this time for a reason! This knee issue would have come up regardless of if you were in the challenge or not, but coming now you have the opportunity to learn from a trainer and keep advancing your fitness despite the diagnosis! I wish you well!
@mytime6630 - continued prayers for healing 💕

@PackerFanInGB That's really sucky about your knee! I'm so sorry! Hopefully the treatments that you have planned with help with the pain.
@mytime6630 I'm so sorry about the shooting. That must have been a complete shock! I'm praying for you and your hubby as well as your whole community. You've definitely had a rough time of it. Something awesome will happen soon!
@pridesabtch Have an AWESOME time in Boston! My fingers are crossed for your oldest! I'm so sorry that your girls are having such a rough time. I remember when I was in high school. It definitely wasn't easy. You and your whole family are in my prayers, my dear!
@azulvioleta6 We have a student in the class that I work with that routinely has 25k steps a day. He has autism and one of his things is that he spins, for hours when he's home. So we think that's where he gets all of his steps. Lol. 3 of the paras have step trackers so we always compare steps with him. It's crazy! Lol.
@meraki6 I took 3 years of cooking classes in high school but by the time I needed to start cooking for myself 10 years later I had forgotten most of what I learned. So I kinda had to learn as I went. Thank God I have a gracious husband who eats just about everything I've ever made. Lol. I'm actually pretty good at it now. I haven't really branched out to just adding things to a pan and seeing what happens yet though. But maybe one day! But don't be too hard on yourself about it. You're just now learning.4 -

@mytime6630 I can't imagine range of emotions you are feeling. Be kind to yourself and trust in God. My prayers are with you my friend.
A little snafu in the Boston plan. They moved Sierra's race to 3:00pm instead of 11:00am. Hopefully somebody will buy my Blue Man Group tickets or I'm out $400, which sucks, but isn't the end of the world. Another tricky thing for a 3:00pm race is nutrition and weigh-ins. Sierra is a fly weight which is <115lb, and her weight is right at 115. You want her fueled and hydrated, but not heavy... They weigh in 2 hours before they race so that is like 1:00 pm. I'm thinking breakfast around 10:00, weigh at 1:00, then eat a light lunch. Normally she rows light weight which is <135 and we've never had to worry about weigh ins... Today, I'll work on rearranging our schedule a bit.
I was over calories yesterday, but I didn't "binge" so it's better.
JFT Thursday
