@hammycakes Oh, that grilled chicken taco salad sounds delightful! Maybe I should make something similar one day. Its been awhile since I've made a taco salad. Hmmm. Taco Tuesday is coming up and I'm sure I'll be worn out on the chili I made by then.. THANK YOU for inspiring a meal idea (:6

CamandJarvis wrote: »Also, would like to say that today marks 1 week since my last cigarette! BF is also trying to quit and even though we are in separate states, if he isn't smoking, I'm not. Its been so hard to quit since everyone around me smokes and I always get dragged in by those around me (I smell it, I see it, I crave it). But since we both gave up, last weekend when I saw him neither of us gave in (we are the only 2 in that friend group that used to) and I haven't spent time with my neighbor (who also said she wants to quit but its been super hard for her for the same reasons) I've been able to stay away. Saves money and my body! I still feel the hand-to-mouth motion craving but BF told me if I just push on my lips with my fingers, it helps. So far, it hasn't been perfect, but its worked well enough that I've stuck to it. [/i]
@CamandJarvis When I quit smoking a few years back I also had the hand to mouth cigarette craving motion. How I got through this was by making my own fake cigarettes. I took restaurant straws (the paper on them feels like cigarette paper). I cut them into about 3 lengths which made 3 "cigarettes". I taped any ends that needed taping. I used masking tape so I could color it red. I kept one in my car in my (clean) ashtray, one near my house phone, one near my office phone, one near where I eat my meals and one in my purse or pocket at all times. I did not even need to actually bring it to my mouth or put it between my lips. I just needed to see it between my fingers from the corner of my eye as I talked on the phone or had my hands on the car steering wheel. That was enough. I did that for awhile until I got COMPLETELY through all the physical cravings. Then I broke the straw habit later. It was much much easier to break. I'm not sure how odd it may have looked to others, but I really didn't care. The main thing is that I quit smoking without popping hard candy in my mouth all the time! Good luck to you! A few others on this challenge have quit recently too including @jaccimc63 . I hope you will be inspired by them. What a positive move for you in a good direction. I am so happy to see so many things coming along for you at this time! Congratulations!7 -
@deepwoodslady Yes! I should try that. I have a CBD "vape" pen (that is out of fluids) I sometimes have on hand. Just putting that to my lips helps. I also have my friend's broken vape pen that I have used a couple times just to put something to my lips and it seems to assist quite a bit. Both have nothing in them so I'm not getting any dangerous vapors, but I can still kill cravings. The fingers pushing on my lips has been my primary as I forget to grab the vape pens and its probably better to not practice putting anything to my lips to break the habit faster.
@jaccimc63 was definitely an inspiration when I saw she was quitting. It really pushed me to want to quit and having my BF doing the same thing was the last straw. I don't have to worry about quitting and then moving to Texas and being sucked back in. Its really inspiring to know others who have gone through this process and came out better on the other side. If y'all can do it, I can! The good news is that I'm past the nicotine/chemical craving, just need to work through the physical side.

02/06 …..192.1….. ENDING WEIGHT LAST ROUND
02/07 …..192.1 ….. I am starting my new plan today. I will closely monitor my glucose readings to see how it affects me. I watching also to see what happens with my tummy. So far this morning, it feels like taking my brain out and turning it completely backwards. Logging will be extra important so I can figure all this out. This experiment will likely be temporary. In the end, I don’t think it is what is normally best for me overall. Just what I need right now in regards to several medical issues. Good luck everyone this round!
02/08 …..192.0 ….. My gluclose numbers have been running too high (which is what my medication normally treats as high glucose has been my main problem over the years). Probably because of the carb increase. But it doesn’t cause the sickness and panic eating that the lows do. I will continue with my experiment and see what happens. I am just not used to considering the calories as much so it’s a brain swicheroo thing but I’ll get it. I know lower carb is better for my glucose so I am going to experiment on eating fewer calories but higher carb. The best way to explain is maybe less actual Keto and more low or thoughtful carb intake (low glycemic vs high glycemic etc). I don’t yet know what the numbers will be. Under 50 carbs? Under 100 Carbs? I’m going to try to tweak this thing for sure. If I see any persistent dangerous levels, I will make immediate necessary changes. Let’s see how this continues to go.

Hi. My name is Trina.
Hoping to end my frustrating stretch and start making progress back down to where I was before the holidays. Good news is that I've been doing this long enough that I'm not ready to throw in the towel and I figure it has to work at some point. Bad news is I've been doing everything right for 3 weeks and not made any progress on getting below what I thought was a temporary bump up. I'll hang in if you all hang in!

Looking forward:
- February: I need to focus on getting back to where I was pre-Christmas
- 2020: Goal is to stabilise weight around 145
- Strengthen strategies to reframe the tendency to use unhealthy snack food as a reward/treat.
- Make sure I have prepared healthy snacks available
- Cut down on eating between meals
Back Story:2018:2020
My goal was to get down below 160, to allow me to enjoy the indulgences of holidays and celebrations.
2019
I exceeded that and have been below 150 for most of the last 2 months.
In 2018, I put on 10 lbs over the last 2 months of the year.
In 2019, I consistently lost weight since the end of July. I put on about 4lbs over the Christmas break, but was still below my original 2019 goal.
That's a WIN in my book!
I need this more than ever now that I am in maintenance! I might even manage to lose a bit more ever so slowly.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

Round 104, 21st Round for Me
Starting Weight: 276.8 lbs
Goal Weight: 274.8 lbs
Day/Weight/Comment
02/07: 278.1 lbs (+1.3) … expected an uptick here as I had lost about 5lb over the past couple days. Still not too bad.
02/08: 279.9 lbs (+1.8) … another expected uptick. Had a nice date night and was perfectly within budget, but then my wife and I decided we’d play drunken video games together so I wound up having another 5 beers late into the evening. Whatever this is is temporary and should fall off within the next couple days. Sometimes you just have to live a little
While I’ve set 274.8 as a goal for this round (I always choose my goal to be 2 lb less), I’ll be completely happy if I end around my round start weight… since last round ended with a dramatic drop in weight.

I just found this today. So newbie here:
Hi everyone. I will be 52 in 1 month from today. I am hoping to release the weight (because if you lose something it comes back. And brings a tonne of friends. lol)
I started MFP on March 20, 2010, so almost 10 years on here. Though it been on and mostly off.
My HW 205 was weighed at the doctors a couple of weeks ago and that was like holy *kitten* (sorry)
GW: 130-140
My plan for the 10 challenge is to track everything! Eat healthier, drink 80 ounces of water at least and get out and exercise! I have been very lacking on exercising for the past year. My husband was sick and then past away 6 months ago on Monday. So not too motivated to do anything, even purging some of his things. Hopefully with spring almost here I will get back on track.
So here's to us!

This round I'm going to drop as much fat as possible; get my cardio back on track; and continue to redefine this diet for life. There are jeans I'm determined to get back into in the next couple of weeks. 🙂
Starting 104 at 169.6lbs
Day/Weight/Comment
02/07. 169.6
02/08. 169.6
Arrrgh, I posted then hit done instead of post 😡.
Condensed version: Carbs high but within tolerance. Macros & calories are good and protein is up. Rolling months calorie average is trending lower than I'd like.
Lots of salty food since Thurs has me on water overload so no proper weigh in. Waking morning weight provides better data than evenings with extra liquids on board. Until this big thirsty response passes I'll do a morning weight check.
I've only skimmed everyone's posts lately. Things are still backwards and upside down. I 🤗 appreciate all of you & thanks for the support.

GOALS THIS ROUND
- RGW 133.5kg
- Track calories 7/10 days
- Minimum of 15 mins activity per day
R104 SW 134.2kg
Day | Weight | Change | Comment
02/07 | 134.2kg | No change | Ugh, go away, water weight! 30 mins of activity yesterday, feeling it a bit today from the strength training. Bodyweight exercises are no joke when you're this heavy!
02/08 | 134.1kg | -0.1kg | Maybe it's not water weight after all...feeling sluggish and just yuck. Still plugging away though, getting my steps and minutes in, hoping to see some improvements soon. I know it's not all about the number on the scale and I am feeling a little less jiggly so I guess I'll take that as a NSV!
02/09 | 133.6kg | -0.5kg | Whoosh! Finally! I knew it was water weight! Feeling much less bloated & sluggish this morning. I will admit this was a later weigh-in than normal but not super late.

Y'all, I realized just how out of shape I was. I did about 10 air squats and I was so winded and I started sweating immediately. Wowza! I wasn't aware how quickly any gym gains I had would fade. Any advice on not getting discouraged while still working up to where I was before? Obviously I cannot resume where I left off and mentally that's very difficult and discouraging for me.
I'm not looking to gain a lot of muscle, but I'm down to the last 10 or so pounds to goal weight so I'd like to make sure I'm losing fat and not muscle. If I can just maintain my muscle for these last 10 or so pounds (even if it extends my timeline) before I begin working on building muscle, I'll be so ecstatic. I'm going to focus a little more on getting some extra protein to protect muscle, but I know the best way is to actively work to maintain it. I'm also going to start using my scale to its full extent (it has a scan for body fat, muscle, bone density, and water percentages. I only use it for weight right now. I know the scan is not accurate, but I want to trend it to help. Libra has the body fat trending option, right?)8 -
Round 104 – I am in!!! I’ve seen Onederland on the scale the last few days but it hasn’t stuck. I’m hoping to see it more this round.

02/07: 201.5 (+0.5); Thursday info: 4548 steps, 4 of 12, 5hr44m (74); Thursday was another long day of work and then dinner out with friends. I was tied to my desk and did not exercise after I got home from dinner. I saved a decent # of calories for dinner but we had sushi and I ate all the edamame. That was A LOT of sodium. I never know how to log sushi so I just gave up. Made sure NOT to eat anything extra before bed.
02/08: 202.5 (+1.0); Friday info: 4359 steps, 6 of 12; 5hr23m (73); Friday was a short day at work. I skipped family dinner and sort of went off the rails at home. “Shark Week” is due to begin soon and I’ve been craving salt, salt, and more salt. Not getting my water in at home either. ******I know this is just a small hiccup and I will get past it. Even as my weigh-in’s remind me of a heartbeat (up, down, up, down), I am still on a downward trend. Instead of focusing on the # on the scale, I will keep trying to move and log. The scale will work itself out as I go.

69 years old female...5'5" ...I used to be 5'7" but arthritis hit and I lost two inches, so now that two inches is squished around my waist like the billows of a big accordion... ...Oh, well. I'll just keep working on it.
We used to walk 5 miles a day. A pinched nerve and back surgery side-lined me for about a year. Then I had back surgery. Now I'm waiting to get my hip fixed. Hip Doc said surgery in April. Ugh! I can't do any walking or biking...both kill me. I see my personal trainer three times a week. She is taking it very slow and easy with me.
I have March 10th as my hip surgery date...much better than April!

Welcome to the group @leigh33ca I am so so sorry for the loss of your husband. I can't imagine the pain of losing a spouse and can see why it would be extremely hard to get motivated. You've joined a wonderful and very supportive group!
