@Duck_Puddle you need to join me at my race next weekend at the Sandlot Marathon (or half marathon). You can't get lost, just keep the pitcher's mound on your left!
Finally caught up after mostly reading nearly 300 posts!!!
@hamsterwheel6 congrats on your AG 1st, you rockstar!
@LoveyChar that race looks great!
@Camaramandy648 ... 1)what a wonderful birthday from your kids! 2) Night trail runs kick *kitten*! 3) I enjoy evening runs and running in the dark, so Saturday is my pick. What about after church on Sunday though?
@PastorVincent training for a 50K vs. 50M is not much different. You can't scale the training linearly or you'll wear out and possibly injured. For me, all the mid-week and most weekend runs are the same. The difference is working in more back to back long runs for a couple of the weekends, such as a 20M saturday and a 16M Sunday. I also include more strength work and stair work for 50M.
Glasses vs. Contacts - I much prefer running in contacts because I hate running in my prescription glasses. Weird thing though, when I wear contacts, it doesn't bother me a bit to wear sunglasses. The bad thing about wearing contacts is that I need readers so it can be tough to read my Garmin.
I'll save my donut run report until I have more time.
Tuesday Kody & I were out for 8 miles and found some interesting items. The first was a woman's wallet. No money or anything particularly valuable but her driver's license was in it. I found a phone number online and reached a relative who said she'd pass on my number to the gal, but so far I've heard nothing. I'll call one more time then give up trying to get it back to her.
The other item I found...well I guess I really could have gotten a runner's high...

My headphones died on this run so I spent a lot of time just thinking and letting my mind wander. Questions that occurred to me:
- why does the run after a rest day always feel so hard?
- why do I always need to use the bathroom (💩) around the middle of mile 4?
- why do cyclists frown all the time?
- why are runners so much more friendly than cyclists?
- where have all the ospreys and hawks gone (suspect nesting)?
Anyway it was a pretty good run. I finally bought a pair of Balega Glide running socks and wore them today. I have really never worn much other than Smartwool and thought I would give these a try after they were mentioned here a few times. I really like them. Will have to see over time how they perform and if I get blisters.

What is that?0 -
@7lenny7 I didn't realize the Sandlot Marathon was next weekend. Good luck with that. Interesting items you found during your run.
@Camaramandy648 Hope you are able to get more sleep now.1 -

3/3 - Ran 1.76 miles (total run: 1.76 miles)

3/5 - Ran 1.8 miles (total run: 3.56 miles)
Lately I have found the guided runs on my Nike App. They have been really helpful for this solo runner, used the "I Don't Wanna Run Run" and "Easy Run". I start my Garmin and the app (with the Spotify playlist suggested) & next thing I know, I'm almost at the end!
My problem now is, on the Nike App, I get 2 different entries. Like, for this morning, the Garmin entry says 1.80 miles, 14;15 pace & 25:47 total, but Nike says 1.81 miles, 13:47 pace, 25:00 total. Which one should I keep? (Strava says 1.80, 14:16, 25:47) On the MFP app I delete the one that says "running in place" as they both have the same calories, so it doesn't matter as much which platform, and I know the total milage is pretty much the same, but for pace, I want to be as close to what I really am. Garmin/Strava? Nike?
My Nike app usually has less than my Garmin. So my Garmin will end at 3.5 and Nike will say 3.49. I only use Nike to track my shoe milage so I go by Garmin numbers for distance. Maybe someday I'll add shoes to garmin and ditch Nike (but I got my last new pair in December and put them in Nike because all my shoes are there. HAHAHA)2 -
@LoveyChar that is a pipe, lol. You put weed it in and smoke it.
That bowl, however, is empty so @7lenny7 is sol.
I say this as a COMPLETELY CLEAN AND SOBER person. My experience with pipes such as those ended long, long, long ago.8 -

Oh...well thanks. LMAO! I wondered why he was getting a runner's high from a broken hairbrush or was he hallucinating or what?!? Gotcha!2 -
@7lenny7 That sounds fun! But I will be in Moab. Running a race down one road that has a rock on one side; a river in the other and zero cross streets. There’s one turn at the end into the park where the finish is.
When I ran Arches in October - it’s on the same road (different but still only one turn into one place). I missed the turn, ended up causing a traffic incident between a bus and a police cruiser.
Oops. Not my fault. The flashing lights and barricades were very confusing 🙄.
I did not find any pipes during that race.6 -

Thanks for all the insight about what day(s) to do the long-run on. There are so many things that I can't sacrifice: Madison's social skills classes, time with my son, church, and running. It's just going to be a matter of getting it done, one way or the other.1

Hey all.
6.5k this morning in the dark. Have to thank @PastorVincent for the noxgear recommendation. I've had a few looks and I like being visible. Not that it's usually a worry, I don't have a lot of roads to cross, but I definitely feel safer.
I had intended on only doing 6k but I miss calculated my distance and went slightly too far. When I realised I thought, what's another half km.
Planning on attempting a long run tomorrow, incorporating Parkrun. I'm thinking I'll go out, do a couple of km, do Parkrun, then a couple more. That way I balance my need to be competitive with the need to go slow for the distance haha.
Hopefully no issues with my hydration pack. It's getting a little chilly in the morning now (yay) so will wear a full length singlet rather than my crop.
I did have a crazy thought, if I manage to bump up my running KM enough this year, next year I could probably run the year in Km... So now I want to keep increasing that 10% to get there... Working on next year's goal already, why not lol.

Hello all! I'd love to join this challenge!
I'm Jen. I've run six half marathons and upteen other races of less mileage but was in an accident three years ago that stopped me in my tracks. After a grueling recovery, I am FINALLY running again! YAY!!! I'm signed up for two 8k's, a 10k and a 5 miler this year, as well as a couple of obstacle 5k's. I live in the Virginia Beach area17 -
Hello, my goal for March I'll keep it simple 30 miles, which is a low target as I don't run every day.
Yesterday 3/4 I ran 3 miles.

Today's run was an experiment in running with a face mask. I've been wearing a mask when cycling, and the air quality today wasn't the best so I thought, how bad can it be?
Well I finished the run feeling a bit out of breath but not too bad, and Garmin tells me I had an average HR of 170, peaking at 209. What??? I didn't even know I could go that high. What do you guys think? Buggy hardware? Or did I actually do that without feeling much?PastorVincent wrote: »@noblsheep Hey good to hear from you. How are things over there? Life at all getting back to normal?
Slowly yes. But the company still doesn't need us back, and I don't need to leave the house for anything but running. All this staying at home is driving me stark nuts.11 -
Yeah, I feel for you @noblsheep Staying inside all the time would drive me nuts too! As for abnormally high HR, Garmin does have bugging HR monitors (especially wrist). Seems to lock onto your cadence when it happens. Mine does it about once a month.
Welcome to all the new members!!
Last year during marathon training, the plan had easy runs at 9:50/mi. I could never get myself to stay at that pace as it felt harder to go that slow. But a year later, 10lbs heavier, and a lot more out of shape, I did 6.2 miles this evening at 9:45/mi and it felt glorious Makes all my other 'easy' runs feel like tempo runs now. After 7 years of running, I might finally found my easy running pace. Although, every week (actually every run) is different. Just have to go by effort, and ignore pace. Much easier said than done.

I Had my MRI today. I am claustrophobic so 20 minutes was creepy. Thank god for yoga breathing!
It was a “chamber of commerce day” here and I am truly struggling with being in the gym for cardio so I went for a 6 mile walk. That definitely lifted my mood.

6.4 hard miles tonight, longest run since the Marathon and it was not fun, not pleasant, not enjoyable. I feel heavy and blah. This morning I got a 2.5 mile walk in with little man. Even though I felt like crap, I got lots of good cardio im today and will sleep well tonight. I got to get it together and back on track.7

Today’s training plan called for 3 mile run at conversational pace. Instead I walked around the zoo with teenagers and had a picnic. Then I came home to throw dinner together and serve birthday cake for my daughter. I could go run in the neighborhood, but pajamas are sounding better than running gear tonight. I have tomorrow off work. So I’ll just swap tomorrow’s rest day for a run.9

Great to hear! Running with a mask sounds dreadful.2 -

It is possible. With restricted air, your system would have been struggling to keep up. Assuming you had your watch on tight enough not to move around, and it normally works fine for you, the reading was probably correct. Keep an eye on it, and next time it reads that high, check your pulse manually. If it really is at 209 it will be easy to find and do. You should get a number within a few beats of it, with the caveat that stopping to measure your pulse means your heart will start slowing down fairly quickly.

Welcome to all of the new folks!
@bearly63 I am slightly claustrophobic too. I can barely handle an MRI. It takes every ounce of strength I have not to move or scream "Get. Me. Out." I have had an open MRI a couple of times. Those are so much better, but not every facility has one. Hope you get a good report.
I wasn't scheduled to work any today, so had planned to run. Late last night, I agreed to work from 8:30 - 1:00. I thought I would still have time to go for a run before my 6:00 meeting. However, when I got home, I had no energy. I haven't been sleeping well this week, so opted for a nap instead. I think it was the right call. I'm working all day again tomorrow, so it may be Saturday before I get a run in. Not my best week, but, life happens.6 -
This year's finishers award for the Sandlot Marathon has been revealed!

It was so beautiful today! We did 5k on roads, working on speed and maintaining effort up and down hills, then took a long walk through a part of the forest we hadn’t been through before. At one point we walked straight into the middle of a family of deer. I said, “I see three...” husband said, “no, there’s four,” and at that moment the largest deer made a barking noise, and deer exploded out of the underbrush all around us. Turns out there were not three, not four, but FOURTEEN deer! Deer are so well camouflaged in the woods!
We may have to stop going out to eat after running, since everywhere we go people are coughing. And Memphians have no couth and would never think to cover a cough. I wish it was legal to just slap people who go out sick in public, just walk right up and slap them in the face (preferably with something long enough to stay out of range). Probably that’s not very nice. But I can dream.10 -
-
My slow crawl back from OTS. I got a little overconfident after yesterday’s 4.5. Tried 3.5 today. I’ll probably need 3 weeks to recover before I try that again. Seeing as yesterday was the first time I could run at all since the marathon, a consecutive day attempt was not my best decision. But man was I super optimistic anyway. At least I felt like trying-that’s a huge improvement.
