When you've had Covid, aren't you supposed to be immune for 3+ months? Some articles mentioned maybe up to 8 months but the least amount of time I saw was 3.
I was in quarantine with Covid over Thanksgiving, came out that Saturday right after Thanksgiving.
Woke up this a.m. with a scratchy throat and a bit hoarse. AFAIK I haven't been around any sickness whatsoever but that's not really meaningful. Ugh, Guess I'm calling my healthcare provider this a.m. to ask what to do.
Problem is I'm supposed to stay with my BIL tomorrow so that my sister can go to an appt. Dang I hate this!16 -

Allergies? Dry winter air? I have had half a nose with post nasal drop that gets re-triggered at each of my winter walks. It, at times, can also irritate my throat. Hope all is well for you!8 -

I'm suspecting the start of a cold, which usually doesn't move my sickness worry meter at all but..........
I've already sent my sister a text, which I hate the most about it. She doesn't ask a whole lot of me; I have to sometimes push my help on her(she's that kind of person) and this 1 time she actually asked...:(13 -

I’ve seen the 90 day figure as well. I think it’s one of those things that they’re really not sure about.
Perhaps, just a regular cold. Maybe your immune system is slightly weakened from your bout with it in November 🤞🏻Hoping for the best for you with your clinic❤️6 -
Off the quarantine as of today. Was pretty lucky. Mild fever for half a day, bit of a cough for a few days. Still feeling the faigue. My wife has a couple more dsys but she's in the same situation.19

I worked out in the wind several days before my annual eye exam and got my sinuses irritated. I called 8 hours before my appointment to let them know so they could reschedule and was told to keep my appointment because it's winter and they are seeing patients with sinus infections if their temperature is normal and it checked out fine.
Because I read newly mutated version can replicate in the throat I go bed a 16 oz of pomegranate juice by the bed and take a slug if my throat doesn't feel good after reading about it's antiviral activity.4 -
In TN, each county is moving through the vaccinations at a different rate. Mine has zero vaccines to give as if yesterday's reporting. So my turn won't come for awhile, it seems.7

You're a sweet sister. Have you tested negative since recovering? Can you get a Covid rapid test anywhere nearby today? It might give you a little peace of mind regarding your BIL, but you probably don't want to expose him or your sister to a cold virus, either. One of my DD classmates (nursing major working in a hospital over the summer) tested positive for 8 continuous weeks. Uncommon but not unheard of. Hope all is well!3 -

Same here. Zero.
My Dad called on the day they opened for Covid vaxes like they told us to (Jan 2) and called all day until he finally got through at 3pm. They were already out of what little vaccine they received but they put him on the waiting list. He's still waiting to hear anything, and they still haven't gotten any more.
But everything is always a ridiculous mess here, so that's hardly surprising, even though it IS frustrating.9 -

They don't know how long naturally acquired immunity really lasts yet. They had tested people with confirmed diagnoses after 3 months and still had antibodies so it sounds like they are confident at least up to that point. Continued testing suggests at least 8 months now, but they don't know if that's typical or not
It could be all sorts of things, but it is so easy right now to think every cough might be covid. Hopefully it's nothing!4 -
There may be fewer colds and flus circulating now, but the viruses haven't disappeared. Odds are that's what you have. I read an article this morning that said they expect a rebound of flu infections once people start relaxing after Covid is less of a threat.1

The Virginia DOH just unveiled a web survey to determine which eligibility group you are in and sign up for text/email alerts when your group is eligible. I am... not in a group lol. Instead of a group designation I was told I would be eligible once 1a 1b and 1c were complete and doses are widely available. So... get comfortable in your hidey hole Kim.
My dad is 1b due to being 76. My mom is 74 which defaults to 1c but her medical conditions might put her in 1b so I'm anxious for her to take the survey. Our county is still in 1a, some other VA counties have started 1b.6 -

WHO predicts herd immunity in 2021 unlikely.2 -
I've been hearing naturally acquired immunity is not a given after all cases of covid.
A 23 year old Paramedic we know had covid back in the late summer relatively mildly only to have it again! She was really ill but not hospitalised over Christmas. She is now said back at work. I know she is in a job which is high risk but she is an example lightning does strike twice even with ppe. She's showing such a commitment to the community in which she lives and works.
There are so many levels involved how one reacts immunologically to covid, from asymptomatic through to full hospitalisation. The suggestion here, UK, the persons reaction is based on the amount of the virus they are subjected to, the greater the contamination the worse someone is. The scientists I've heard in the media, are uncertain how much immunity is achieved for each person, it seems its such a variable situation which is why the vaccine is so important.11 -

Thanks all I talked with a nurse at the clinic and she said it's highly unlikely I've got Covid again; if it gets worse to call them back. She suggested I take meds. for allergies. I feel like I get this virus every winter, hoarseness and scratchy throat, nothing else. But since everything has to be questioned this year I figured I had to call.
I never got a repeat test to make sure I was Covid free. They said I had to quarantine for 14 days and be symptom free for 24 hours so that's what I did. It's so different everywhere you go. Unity would go a long way towards taking the confusion out of this.7 -

(ETA it was a generic 866 number, assumed it was a junk call, didn’t think to reverse search it until a week later when I realized I hadn’t heard from anyone).8 -

I was told to quarantine for 10 days feom the onset of symptoms (they recently moved from 14 to 10) and no fever for 24 hours. I was told you may have lingering symptoms like bit of cough, sore throat, fatigue etc. Fever seems to be deal breaker.2 -

Keep your appointment. I had an ENT f/up scheduled for 12/31/2020 and I was planning to cancel it but I noticed that my chronic headaches were different and I had lots of postnasal drips.
The doctor did a deep (very, very deep), nostril examination and found heavy yellowish almost green mucus wayyy up my sinuses (sorry for TMI). I was on antibiotics for 10 days. I am glad that I kept the appointment because the doctor caught it at the beginning and saved me from a bad sinus infection. Been there, had that, and I don't want to go there again. Hope that you are well soon.10 -

All kind of information out making it seem as if AZ is the worst place on the planet, and it might be. I dunno know. I'm just glad I'm a semi hermit. We are going to San Diego next week to see my son (and celebrate our 30th Anniversary). That's the son that already had Covid, so at least I believe we're good seeing him. We are renting an AirBnB and pretty much going to behave just like we do here -- eat at home, buy groceries and order take out and that's about it. The only difference being that we'll be two blocks from Seal Beach in La Jolla while doing it. I'm thinking for extra good measure, I'll take a can or two of Lysol just to spray in the place when we get there and then open up the windows and let it air out. Oh, and we'll drive. It's only around 6 hours from here to there. I actually quite enjoy the drive through the sand dunes to the mountains and then down to the ocean.
California is likely safer than AZ right now with most everything being shut down.
I live in the same region as San Diego as far as COVID goes. And everything is shut down here, too. Southern California region has 0% ICU bed availability and everything is shut. Four out of the five regions of CA (all but Northern CA) are in this position, unfortunately. I’m not even sure if the outside part of the zoo is open.
You can still hike and walk on the beach. Eagle Rock is a fav of mine in San Diego for hiking. CA also just instituted a 120 mile travel ban (no going farther than that).
It’s bad here. My colleague’s grandpa had a heart attack and was in the ambulance for eight hours. Lives in north LA and they finally found him a bed down here in Orange County. Paramedics have instructions to keep resuscitating in the field, but not to transport if the patient likely won’t make it due to loss of heart beat.
Please travel safe and stay safe.8 -

I thought I was in this everyone else group, but a friend and co-worker just pointed out that we are technically in 1c, since under IL's definition (which is pretty broad, but I think it is most places), we are essential workers. Hmm.0 -
Well, this is not good news. Another article right above this one saying the same thing.

@Psychgrrl it sounds serious to me. Hope we're not lining up for a new vaccine every 6-12 months.1
-
Lining up for a repeat vaccine every 12 months would be no different to annual flu vaccine.
I don't see that as a big deal.14 -

The problem right now is getting to the point where everyone is vaccinated. There’s a long way to go to get there though.
It’s no different than getting an annual flu shot, so shouldn’t be an issue at all. Except for cost, for uninsured or if insurance doesn’t cover the cost. In the US, long overdue for a universal health care system.12 -
I don't understand why the vaccine rollout is so terrible. Sounds like some places have extra doses while other places don't have enough. I feel like the phased approach is holding things back in places with extra doses. Those places where they have enough vaccine, but can't give it to anyone because they haven't been told to go on to the next phase yet. Someone needs to take inventory and just get these shots to people. Maybe deploy the national guards and train them to give injections. 100K soildiers working 12 hrs per day would have these vaccines done much sooner. Only question is supply to do that.8
-
While my part of Indiana is no where NEAR where I would be in line, my local health department did reach out and allow some people (including myself) to sign up on a wait list. If someone fails to show up for their appointment or for whatever reason they have extra doses they don't want to waste, they will contact you to come in and get it. You have to be able to respond within 30 minutes or they will go to the next person on the list. Since I am work from home, that is not a problem for me so I signed up. You also have to be a resident of the city and match a few risk criteria.13

From what I've heard none of the variants so far have been shown to make the vaccines ineffective.
Better to wait and see rather than speculate or assume.
For example not seen any reliable source say that the new variant that emerged in England currently causing horrendous infection rates in the UK requires any change to the vaccines currently being rolled out.
Some good news.....
Vaccination is proceeding at a good pace in the UK, 2.4 million doses received by 2 million people. We don't seem to have the widespread fear of vaccination that are troubling others countries.9 -

It'll be a big deal if we have to wear masks and/or continue to social distance in addition to getting a vaccine every 6-12 months. And since we are still being told we need to do those things in addition to getting the vaccine I find this very likely.
Plus how many people don't get the flu vaccine? Most of the people I know who work for companies who do not require it don't bother with it. Plus you can still get the flu even if you do take it since it's a virus and they mutate.
In general we were told that a vaccine would get us back to "normal" but people are realizing that is not the case and is unlikely to be the case. Maybe we can't get back to "normal" ever again, but we aren't even going to be close to normal and for many this isn't acceptable.
I currently don't have a plan to get the vaccine. I'm all for those who wanting it to get it, but for me there's too much unknown about it and I'd rather wait until we actually know the long term effects and efficiency before committing to it. Though as I work in healthcare, though not front lines, I have a feeling work will require it as they do the annual flu shot.
To the person who posted about California - California has some of the strictest restrictions in the US so what's the explanation for why there is such a severe breakout there? Here in IN we seem to have gone through an outbreak, but when the pt's are questioned they all say they are compliant. Physicians are commenting on the fact that anecdotally they are not seeing non-compliant people getting Covid. My sister in law's mom was hospitalized for Covid after Thanksgiving - she social distanced, wore a mask when leaving the house, and washed her hands all the time but her son brought it home from work (they live together). And he's hugely into following all the restrictions so he wore his mask, washed his hands etc and so did the person who spread the Covid. If we are following the guidelines and still getting Covid which is going to make continuing to follow these guidelines very difficult for some people as why are they going through this and losing their livihood for nothing?10
