The only way she knew who to call was that a friend told her the night before that she heard about the number to call. I have looked at their county health department and can’t see any evidence of how to get the shot, and they told her they weren’t advertising it.
I've been looking on my state's website and can't find any info on where to get a vaccine. (I did this as an intellectual exercise - we're in Phase one of the rollout and no one I know can get one til Phase 2.)
As of this writing, vaccinefinder.org does not have the COVID vaccine as a category.

Public vaccine clinics including COVID-19 vaccine when available can be found at CDC’s interactive website: vaccinefinder.org. Once vaccine is widely available you can also check with your primary care provider, local pharmacy or local health department. Information will also be available on the DPH website.3 -

All kind of information out making it seem as if AZ is the worst place on the planet, and it might be. I dunno know. I'm just glad I'm a semi hermit. We are going to San Diego next week to see my son (and celebrate our 30th Anniversary). That's the son that already had Covid, so at least I believe we're good seeing him. We are renting an AirBnB and pretty much going to behave just like we do here -- eat at home, buy groceries and order take out and that's about it. The only difference being that we'll be two blocks from Seal Beach in La Jolla while doing it. I'm thinking for extra good measure, I'll take a can or two of Lysol just to spray in the place when we get there and then open up the windows and let it air out. Oh, and we'll drive. It's only around 6 hours from here to there. I actually quite enjoy the drive through the sand dunes to the mountains and then down to the ocean.
California is likely safer than AZ right now with most everything being shut down.
Mike do you know that the governor asks people from other states or countries NOT to come to California?
I don't know how things are in Arizona, but California is not safe right now, unlesds not COVID safe. Our hospitals and ICUs capacity are maxed out.
Coronavirus: Due to the coronavirus pandemic, California has imposed a regional stay-at-home order and banned non-essential travel throughout the state except in a region north of Sonoma County. Governor Gavin Newsom said he was “pulling the emergency brake” with this announcement, which restricts hotel stays for leisure travel and other business activity in affected areas. You can find more details here.
"California public health officials have recommended that visitors from out of state, including California residents, quarantine for 14 days after entering or returning to California."

Ah, the federal response.
We're starting phase 1B here locally (my county), which for us (Michigan) includes members of the general public of older ages, or some comorbid conditions. I know of some who've gotten appointments, and gotten the first shot, but it's not at all widespread, rather just barey getting started. Clearly, that availability information is not yet on the federal CDC site, despite what they claim. (It is on the State of Michigan's site, which I believe I posed up-thread.)

I read today that California is asking all out of state people to stay away and for in-state residents to limit driving to 120 miles. They may well close everything down again.
We are already closed down5 -
My sister's SO (who works in health care) got the first shot already, should get the second soon. We are supposedly going to 1B soon, which means people over 65 get it in IL (other than Chicago) and people over 75 in Chicago. This is good but for me personally it will be some time yet.
I want the shot, hope at least people rejecting it means more of us who want it get it sooner, at least, but am happy to wait to whenever my age group is.5 -
Older sister in Washington state, texted me today that she has received second shot, her husband gets his second later this week. Both are doctors.12

Just some suggestions for folks looking for the vaccine in the US. Unfortunately every state is going to be different, because nothing can be easy. Check your local health dept website, call your primary care physician, check the website for your local hospital systems, call your local CVS or Walgreens pharmacies. If you aren't over 65 or a frontline workers, I wouldn't bother checking yet though, I think we're gonna have to wait awhile.
It sounds like most states are either in 1a (healthcare workers) or starting on 1b. Again, exactly who falls in each category is up to your state, but 1b is typically over 75 and some definition of essential workers. I think there are CDC recommendations, but it's ultimately decided by the state.
My local health dept is posting plans on their website as they make them. They got their vaccine shipment a little late, so are still in 1a. They have raised a tent vaccination center in the parking lot of an abandoned Kmart for when they move into 1b. They said they will post instructions before 1b starts, we'll see how it goes.6 -
kimny72 is correct. Each state is determining how it is distributed.
Nothing has changed here (Minnesota) re: vaccinating people, since vaccinating began in December. Currently vaccinating people who work in health care settings and people who live, or work in long term care facilities.
We have been in a similar situation like the lock down last spring, since mid November. Some restrictions are going to be loosened a bit, starting Monday, because we have been showing steady improvement over this time.
Best case scenario, it will take time. There are a lot of people in the world to be vaccinated, and a limited supply. We will have to keep following the precautions we now know so well:
Wear face coverings
Social distancing
Hand washing
Hang in there everyone. There’s light at the end of this very long tunnel. There is hope on the horizon. Better times are coming.11 -

I'd love not to go but I'm not losing 2K either. AirBNB isn't forcing home owners to refund money. They are keeping it all if you don't show. Personally, I didn't want to go. I knew it would be a bad idea. The wife's idea.
There isn't any hospital space in AZ either. CA, at least, has enough sense to close down all restaurants. Gyms and restaurants are still open in AZ with no room in any hospitals.6 -

Iowa is still just vaccinating health care workers & long term care. Needed my 2nd shingles shot, so asked if it will be very soon to get the Covid shot, since I think you have to wait 2-4 weeks after shingles shot to get Covid shot. I was told they don't have any idea for my age group. (71) I also think Iowa is planning to do police, EMTs, teachers before my age group. I have tried looking on the state website to get an idea & I can't find any info. It was on the news recently about a school counselor getting it, and a lot of people were wondering "how did he get it?" It sounds like it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time.5

Yeah, it's the CA Governor protecting the people owning the properties but not those renting them. So, if they really wanted to keep everyone out, force them to refund money. Now, I understand what economic toll that would take on these people that rent homes, and I'm very sad for that. But they know if you rent a home and can't get a refund that you'll be coming. They have made all hotels in CA not be able to take short term stays. That's smart. But the hotel chains are getting killed financially.
Look, I've been sheltering in place the entire flippin' pandemic. If everyone acted as responsibly as me, we wouldn't be in this position. And I will shelter in place while in CA. Nothing will change.
I hope people get back to common sense soon.11 -

Heh.
This is a no-win situation for those government agencies that are distributing the vaccine. In New York City, for example, there are reports of doses sitting in freezers and/or spoiling because the rollout has had significant delays: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/08/nyregion/nyc-coronavirus-vaccine-delays.html . Practitioners have not given exceptions (i.e., "Hey, you, have you had the vaccine yet? Get over here, these are about to expire...") because of fear of violating state rules, which dictates a very specific priority of distribution.
It seems they have eased restrictions, which is good, but then there is a risk of people jumping the line on purpose, like the administrators at Stanford https://www.technologyreview.com/2020/12/21/1015303/stanford-vaccine-algorithm/ . (And, sorry, *kitten* the algorithm: those people knew full well they weren't in immediate danger, and could have refused.)
I have been working for government entities in one form or another for 25 years, and, unfortunately, the ineptitude and cluster*kitten*ry just doesn't surprise me.9 -

The company I'm renting from owns nearly the entire street, so that's not happening. But I appreciate the warning. They have said you can come as long as you shelter in place, but the state is discouraging it, as they should.

https://news.virginia.edu/content/exercise-may-protect-against-deadly-covid-19-complication-research-suggests
Should I start posting these on the "Need Motivation" threads? (<== Joking. But anyone who's recently been following the "glamorizing obesity" thread in Debate will know why that idea occurred to me).
ETA, truth in advertising: I haven't sought out the actual scientific publications yet, to the extent they may be available. I just ran across the topic in a radio report, looked up the articles starting from there, thought others here might be interested even though this is just the popular-press view.9 -

Nice articles but to be honest, probably not a whole lot of news IMO. I'm pretty sure all factors being equal someone in good aerobic condition will fare better then a person that isn't in regard to complications from any disease/illness.6 -

I'd love not to go but I'm not losing 2K either. AirBNB isn't forcing home owners to refund money.
Agree. that's why when we rented a cabin for a few days over Christmas we rented one with the latest cancellation date in the area.
I hope people get back to common sense soon.
Last year in the Florida Keys, renters were kicked out and then they put a road block/resisdency check on the highway. As for refunds, county did not care. That was between the renter and rentor. If you were a renter that tried to stay behind, police were called by neighbors.
The company I'm renting from owns nearly the entire street, so that's not happening. But I appreciate the warning. They have said you can come as long as you shelter in place, but the state is discouraging it, as they should.

It was pretty crazy last year, while I understood the concerns of that county, some actions made no sense. They booted friends of ours that had been there already 6 weeks out of their 3 month rental. Made no sense to me. They were not new arrivals, so at that point in time, how different were they from any local. Ourselves, we are new owners down there and arrived on March 1, just before COVID really blew up, in our car with Massachusetts plates. Yup, that was not great for those next few months.
Stay safe, stay healthy!0
