Total Bike Mileage: 119 miles
I had to walk to the mailbox for work to mail a payment. Decided to just keep going and did a 3.5 mile walk - it's nice today, sunny warm and bit humid but I have not been out and it was mentally required. I miss my runs! I wasn't supposed to walk but went for it. Then came back and hopped on the bike to ride while listening to my book - "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine" I think I am going to be sad at some point...
Best part of my walk? I met Teddy, a new neighbor!7 -

@eleanorhawkins Your daughter's increased vocabulary comment made me giggle.
@hanlonsk Great sister! I got a message from a friend in Seattle looking for lysol spray or something similar. But I couldn't ship aerosols via UPS. She ended up getting some wipes thank goodness. I also mailed tylenol to a lady in NYC.
@Tramboman Sorry the fishing got messed up. That sounds like a peaceful past time right now!
@quilteryoyo I have flour and was able to score some yeast last week so I am going to attempt bread today. It's supposed to be an easy recipe ..... we shall see.
@Camaramandy648 So impressed with your son's perspective! We tried to watch 1917 last week but it only had the option to purchase for $20. Waiting till we can rent. Need to check back again this weekend.
Instead we watched Toy Story 4. (Yes my kids are 24 and 22) but we all agreed that we needed light and cute. Tbh, it creeped me out. I was never a doll person growing up. There are a lot of creepy dolls in the movie, esp. Gabby Gabby and the ventriloquist dummies. Nightmare material.
@PastorVincent Great advice. We are all going to look at shopping so differently in the future. I am definitely getting more creative with what I have.1 -

@Teresa502 I have thought about taking one load to the car and going back, but it feels like cheating to me. Not sure why, as I actually wouldn't be.
Glad you had a good run @kgirlhart.
Awwww! @bearly63 Teddy is adorable!

@skippygirlsmom hahahaha I haven't had to pee in the woods yet because there are bathrooms on the trails everywhere. Except this past weekend. I think I'm gonna have to do it again this weekend.... I went for the 10K. I really, really, really had to shove back the thoughts of "No, you should do the marathon or at least half marathon distances because 10K isn't ENOUGH." The thing is, it IS enough. ANY effort is good. ANY distance is good. ONE MILE would be fine. I want to be home with my kids as much as I can since I'm working so much. 10K is fine!
@Camaramandy648 Some of our trails have bathrooms at the trail head but nothing once you go out, some have porta potties, I always make sure I have tissue and a zip lock in my pack.3 -
I’m glad I came on here tonigh to post my run from this morning, albeit belated. You’re all such a lovely, helpful and positive bunch you have put a smile on my face. Especially that pic of Teddy!
The everyday running streak continues. I had a near fall this morning that scared me. Suddenly thought how much I really don’t want to have to go to hospital and put myself and my kids at risk. So I slowed right down and concentrated so hard on every paving slab and road surface!! Right now it’s all about keeping going for body and mind, not beating any PBs so I’m going to try and stay cautious and sensible x

Morning all. Rest day today to im going to brave the vast unknown of the supermarket, see if I can hunt and gather some supplied. Then I'm going to take the kids out for a walk, then I'm going to take myself for a long extended walk. And finally I'll finish the day with a hard core dose of the Sims 2.
Welcome to my bubble on my day off.
It's Easter weekend starting tomorrow (we ger Friday and Monday off) and I'm working through the weekend. Keeps me out of trouble I guess.6 -
I have read most of 80/20 Running. It's interesting and is making me rethink my commitment to the Jeff Galloway method of running. Anyway, I decided to do a treadmill run today to determine what he calls my lactate threshold heart rate. It's supposed to be done on a flat area which is non existent around here. Also, it's a whole lot easier to control my pace. If I did it right, my threshold is around 160 BPM, which means my easy runs should be below 142 BPM. I can probably do that on the treadmill, but I think even walking fast up some of the hills around here gets it higher than that. I'm not sure I can run slow enough. Any ideas from you more experienced runners? Also, because of this experiment, I ran 3 entire miles WITHOUT stopping for any walk breaks and it was okay. Took me 38 minutes, but, hey, I was trying to go easy after I found my threshold.
I had to cut my cool down walk a little bit short due a family crisis. I have a cousin that is in the hospital, mental status related. He and his son are estranged, so my dad and I are his next of kin. Since dad can't really hear on the phone, I'm it. The hospital called and they are getting ready to discharge him from the hospital, even though he is still not in a good place cognitively speaking. So, I'm having to help find a rehab facility for him to go to and try to figure out if I can get access to his finances with him in an altered state, and figure out what to do long term if he is unable to live on his own again. Anyway, that's probably way TMI. I'm just stressing a bit.
My total on the treadmill today was 3.75 miles instead of the intended 4.

Great job on your run @quilteryoyo . I hope everything works out with your cousin. That's a tough spot to be in.1

I did not make my first marathon thanks to the record setting rain. Hopefully I can make up the missed distance in the remaining weeks to still make the overall.
I don't mind running in the rain, I just won't go out in a steady downpour especially when there are flash flood warnings and the streets are flooded. So I haven't run in 3 days and only one of those was a planned rest day. Today we finally had a little break in the rain so I jumped on it. On the way to the trail I ran past something that surprised me and had to go back to check it out. It was a bunch of license plates! I contacted our police department and gave them the location and my contact info and headed off again. A bit later in my run (mile 4) I got a call back. Apparently someone has been taking them off parked cars in the area.
There were quite a few people out on the trail but everyone was being pretty good about the social distancing. The only issue I had was a guy walking his huge Shepard (beautiful GSD) and a smaller dog. He really didn't have control of the Shepard and when other dogs went by his dog lunged at them. We were behind them and I kept pausing to let them get further ahead of us so I wouldn't have to risk taking Hobbes by them on the narrow trail. We weren't able to get past them for the entire length of the trail so when I turned around to go home I ran the trail back the way I had come and then some to take the long way home. It finally felt like a run because I didn't have to keep stopping. It was gorgeous out so I took a picture for anyone who isn't able to get outside. The white spot at the waters edge on the far bank is a huge egret or heron.

On the shopping. I haven't been to the stores for a while. We had our last order delivered and got most of what we wanted. Some things seem to just be perennially out of stock now though like hamburger buns and frozen vegetables 🤷🏻♀️ as well as any kind of hand sanitizers or wipes. They have told us no shopping at all unless absolutely necessary for the next 2 weeks at least. I have been trying to get an order in for a few things for our Easter dinner, the stores appear to have what I need but I cannot get a delivery slot. I have even tried at midnight because sometimes they release a slot at different times. We have plenty of food and don't really need anything and as my husband said if we don't have a fancy Easter dinner it will be ok. It isn't worth getting frustrated or upset about.
@katharmonic - as soon as I can get back into the gym I will start working on those pull-ups. I don't have any kind of bar (tree branch?) to practice on at home.
@kgirhart - Awesome job on your run!
@camaramandy648 - I love your 'hopes'! Could your son FaceTime or something similar with his friends to get a little social time in to help with his feelings of isolation? I had a Webex lunch with some of my friends on Monday and it really helped me.
@hanlonsk - that looks like what I ate all through college!
@noblsheep - someone else here did a handstand challenge a while back. Maybe @Orphia? We expect to see pictures of how the challenge is going!
@bearly63 - I am in love with Teddy and the name fits him so well! I suspect you will be visiting him often. Hope the walk didn't make your leg sore!
@faebert - so glad you didn't fall!
@quilteryoyo - I sent you a PM. We dealt with a similar situation with our elderly neighbor the first time she fell a few years back. If you didn't get it let me know. Sometimes it doesn't seem to work unless you are 'friends' first.3 -
OMG, @bearly63 that puppy is perfection. If my Stella wasn't such a challenge with other dogs, I would be so tempted to get a new puppy or dog right now to take advantage of being at home so much. I know a few people who have gotten puppies and I'm so jealous. But then I remember how I said "never again" last time I had a puppy. But then I remember how cute they are... and so on. I saw the woman who runs the rescue I adopted Stella from in the grocery store the other day and told her I was so tempted to try to foster a dog and she said if she thought she had any that would be a good match to Stella she'd think about it. I'm thinking there's probably no good match for Stella, she's a bit of a diva to say the least.

Anyway, I had a big day today. It was my PhD student's dissertation defense, which we had to conduct virtually of course. This is the thing that's been stressing me out so much for weeks and months (and years frankly) - and he passed! He did great, and it's over and I'm so very relieved. I feel like a huge weight is lifted.
I had planned to run right after but I didn't get to it until the end of the day. Once again, I tried to combine the run with exercising Stella and it was not a very pleasant experience. We toughed it out for 3 miles though with tons of stops and starts and the pace was very slow.7 -
@shanaber I did not get a PM. I'll send you a friend request.0

Wow, I’m finally caught up, and so appreciating you all and your presence here! I’m in the FT work from home, FT homeschooling situation, so it’s been a challenge to make it to the boards. But I’ve been running!
April goal: 50 mi
4/2 4 mi
4/5 6 mi
4/7 4 mi
April total: 14 mi
Reading through, I’m just in admiration of the good spirits and continuity of this community.
My little topical note: just joined an immunity study and gave some blood today. I was presumptive positive for COVID-19 back in late February, so hope I have some antibodies that might be helpful. They can’t share individual info though, so I won’t know my status until there’s some other test to access.
The weather here has been gorgeous for running, though, and tons of flowers. And high 50s this week—I’m psyched!11 -

I'm following this progression here - only on day 3 so still doing the second step lol. I have very little upper body strength to begin with so this is probably going to take months or upwards of a year... I'll get some pictures up when (if?) progress is being made.4 -
Hi all, managing to jump on here this morning for a change. A beautiful sunrise run with the tail end of last night’s pink moon today. Didn’t get a pic but it was lovely entertainment for me as I ran without music or company. I’m not sure if I’m just more aware of it but there’s been some really beautiful days this spring. It’s like Mother Nature is kicking our a**es right now but she’s really doing it in style!
@shanaber - sounds like you have the perfect attitude to shopping during this time. But it is really frustrating when you can’t get basics purely due to people panicking!
@katharmonic - big congrats to you and your PhD student, that’s great news!
@kgirlhart - fab run!
@quilteryoyo - sorry to hear about your cousin and hope you are managing.
Big hugs and high fives to everyone. Keep safe xx

Today's 8km base run wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I was tired, and it seemed to take forever to get it over and done with, but my legs weren't as sore as I expected them to be after yesterday's 'hills'.
I've realised that once this is all over I need to find myself some new routes to run. I run the same routes over and over and they're so automatic that this morning when my husband asked me how much longer I was going to be on the treadmill and I looked at my watch to check my distance, my brain automatically translated it into "I'm on my way back down the river, just passing the old hotel, so I'll be home in about half an hour"
01/04: 4.81km tempo
02/04: 6.57km base
04/04: 9.6km easy
06/04: 5.08km easy
08/04: 8.5km hill repeats
09/04: 8.06km east
Revised April goal: 140km. Run so far: 42.62km7 -
Sorry I have not been keeping up. SO's 50th yesterday and still busy today. For those that need an excuse this weekend...6

@simcon1 - that's great that you are participating in an immunity study. When I hear about things like that I get hopeful. I know the medical and scientific community are doing so much more than we hear about.
@noblsheep that is cool - I might try that handstand progression. @orphia definitely did something like that - she may be a handstand pro at this point.
@shanaber and anyone else, there are pull-up progression plans out there too. This is one site I've looked at and is similar to some of the things my trainer had me work on to get to a pull-up https://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/do-a-pull-up/
Thank you so much @Faebert
@quilteryoyo I meant to reply yesterday as well and say I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin. So stressful. Please do take care of yourself.

First off, I'm sorry about whining about fishing, especially considering all we're going through. As a retiree, I can fish every day if I want to, so it's pretty selfish of me to complain about a little rain.
I usually help with the trout stocking, although I didn't this time due to social distancing. I did get a special look at one of the trout that was stocked -- it was a brown trout about 2 feet long that probably weighed 8 pounds. As I suspected, the water was high and muddy and I didn't get a bite -- unless you count the trout that tried to eat my strike indicator. The sun came out later and I snoozed on my zero gravity chair outside on the patio.
It was rainy, windy, and 47 degrees F at 7:00 this morning. By the time I went out to run a little after 8:00, it had dropped to 42 degrees F, and the rain had just about stopped. Running in a little light rain doesn't bother me much. When my route took me toward the northwest, I could see the sky had darkened quite a bit. I prayed to the running gods to do something about the rain -- and they did. First, they mixed it with some big fat snowflakes. Then, they mixed it with some sleet. Then, they threw in some big gusts of wind. I almost stopped at the halfway point to get gloves, but I figured I couldn't get any more cold and wet than I already was. The payoff came at the 6k point, when the sun broke through the clouds.
But my hip didn't hurt much.
Stay safe and well, everyone!!!
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles
Stretch goal: If I can average 169k per month, I can run 2020K in 2020

If there is a limit of one and everyone needs said item, two will have to do without until next time. I'm not sure how they can get around this issue.
Our local Co-op grocery store solved the flour shortage by buying extra 20 kg ( ~44 lbs ) commercial flour bags for the bakery and selling that to the customers. They all come from the same flour mill just the commercial ones don't have the fancy colored packaging - plain old heavy paper bag.
@shanaber Instead of delivery can you get a Parking lot pickup of groceries where you drive into the parking lot and phone the customer service giving them your order reference and vehicle description??
@Avidkeo Wear a clean - new pair of scrubs and your facility ID when you go shopping - might give you a bit of a hall pass for getting things.
The good news my April distance is more than Feb and March combined, really needed an extra 0.01km on one of the runs.

Feeling a bit out of sorts today. I can take the day-to-day experience of isolation, it's just thinking about it continuing until at least May 4th (in our state) was getting to me yesterday. I need to get back to focusing on each day.

@quilteryoyo So sorry to hear about your cousin. This is such a stressful time as it is. Hugs!
@shanaber That is weird about the license plates....Wondering if they were targeting cars to steal. We are getting your California rain starting today thru Saturday....3 inches are coming.
@katharmonic We said "never again to a puppy" too but that darn Teddy....got me thinking. But we live on 3 acres and we have so many roving packs of coyotes that I would be stressed the whole time. We don't have a fence. My little 15 year old pup does not leave my side when we go out.
@simcon1 Great news about the study. I would love to find one for my son that does not require a positive test since while we are pretty sure he had it, he did not bother to get tested because in NYC, unless you needed to be hospitalized, they said to stay home and deal with it which he did. As soon as an antibody test becomes widely available, he will get tested and possibly be able to donate plasma.
@TheMrWobbly Lol! Hysterical! Thanks for the laugh.
Another great home workout during these "challenging times":
I have mastered #3 and working on #6!

Today's run called for 5 easy miles. I ran 5.25 and I think I did keep it pretty easy. It was a nice run. I am so glad for running right now. I'm trying not to get overwhelmed by stress, but it is really hard.I found out last night that my aunt is being tested for covid-19. She had a heart attack on March 13th and they did not think she was going to pull through. But she did. They moved her off the ventilator and then she finally passed a swallow test and was moved from the hospital to a rehab facility. Now she is running a fever and was moved to the covid floor and is being tested. They said they will know the results this evening or tomorrow. It just seems so unfair that she overcame the heart attack and now she has probably contracted covid from the hospital or the rehab center. And I'm trying not to be pessimistic, but they didn't think she was going to pull through before so if she has it I don't think she will be healthy enough to beat it. We are praying that she doesn't have it and who knows, she beat the odds once, maybe she'll do it again. But the run was a nice way to clear my head even if just for a bit. The weather was nice at about 60°F. It is supposed to get cold again over the weekend and next week. We hit 92°F yesterday and are only supposed to get to 75°F today.
