@TheMrWobbly Love the Pac Man analogy. You certainly are cleaning up your space!!! WTG!

You can do this @username301 !

Yesterday was a very nice day here....sunny and warm. It was a rest day, so I sat outside and enjoyed nature. Problem was, nature right now is pollen, so my seasonal allergies have flared up. Today, it's my left side - nostril and eye pouring their respective fluids. And sneezing! Does anyone else have to bend over when they sneeze so they don't hurt their back? I know it's allergies and I will survive. It could be a lot worse. The running may take a hit this week though. I'll just have to wait and see how it goes.

Yeah, allergies are fun. Weee. So. Much. Fun. Can you not see how much fun we are having? Weeeeeeee.

Apologizing in advance for the not so happy post:
My wife's uncle John past away Friday night from COVID-19. He battled for over a week, but being 90 with severe respiratory issues and pneumonia 3 weeks ago, it was just too much. He and his wife (Aunt Betty) have been more like parents to my wife and I for the 30 years they have been together. And for sure he has been more of a father to me than my father was for the 13 years that he stuck around.
And.... we got the results back on Aunt Betty last night. She tested positive for COVID-19. She is quarantined in the front two bedrooms / spare bathroom at the front of our house. My wife is having to play caregiver/nurse as her Alzheimer's has gotten quite a bit worse just in the week she has been here. She can no longer dress or feed herself. She gets lost every time she goes around the corner to the bathroom, and doesn't even know how to get into bed anymore. But she isn't showing any real symptoms, so that's a blessing. Wife and I are still symptom free, so taking it one day at a time.

9.0 miles in remembrance of the 90 wonderful years John was on this earth. He was more of a father to me than my father was in the 13 years that I knew him. RIP John, you WILL be missed!!

I'm so sorry ♥♥ My heart goes out to you and your family

Late check in for me today as I was rushing to get to work this morning. It’s been a stressful day and I will spare you all the details. I had a terrible nights sleep but I’m so glad I forced myself out this morning for my run. Got treated to the most beautiful sunrise. I never normally stop on a run but I had to quickly capture the sky. If I’ve done it right, the pic is pasted below..

Keep safe and sane everyone x

    April goal: 75 miles
    April total: 22 miles

    1/4: 3.6 miles
    2/4: 3.7 miles
    3/4: 3.5 miles
    4/4: 4.1 miles
    5/4: 3.5 miles
    6/4: 3.6 miles

    March: 76.4 m
    February: 17.8 m
    January: 0

@Tramboman Maybe I'll add some planking while baking....kill 2 birds with one stone sorta thing. And interesting about your stride length. I do tend to have a short stride. I am wondering if maybe when I am cleared to run again if I should get some running help to see how my stride is and if I can "improve" it to prevent future issues.

It would not hurt to have your stride checked by a PT or someone that is actually knowledgable in biomechanics and running. There is a VERY LARGE variety of good strides pending on your mechanics. In general, we all run about the same, but we all automatically tweak to adjust to terrain and muscle weaknesses. An expert can help you address any issues. But any adjustments take time and hard work usually. So be ready for that.

Yes! Great advice. I really want to run and minimize injuries so this will be worth investing in. Thanks!

@brittanystebbins95 - I too was that kid who hated running. I was the chubby one who was SO slow and always finished last. I didn't find and start to enjoy running until I was in my mid-50's and then only because my trainer told me to give it a try, one block at a time. I have pretty much the entire story on my profile if you are interested.

I have an old school report card on which the PE teacher had written... 'Eleanor's excuses to get out of sports are becoming more and more creative as time goes by. If she would only put as much effort into PE classes as she does into avoiding them she would be a star student.' Makes my daughter LOL!

I was actually a good runner as a teen but we never ran in PE, despite having a track. The track was reserved for the track team. I did fail PE though - four years in a row! - because although I did everything in class, I flat out refused to “dress out” because of being teased because my legs were pale, since I spent my free time training horses instead of laying out getting a tan. And you were marked down 5 points per day not dressing out. Hard to believe that in the culture back then not baking yourself like a potato was unthinkable. As soon as tanning booths for teenagers became a thing, which was about the middle of my senior year, I jumped on it and my life went from horrid to just ordinary levels of bad. Of course now half the people I grew up with have had skin cancer. In my senior prom photos everyone is some shade of bronze.

It’s sort of ironic that the year I came closest to my childhood dream of pursuing a professional sports career - I actually made it to the junior olympics - I also failed PE. But that’s school, being good at the subject isn’t the point, jumping through hoops is the point.

Anyway in Tennessee you are required by law to pass PE to graduate so a sympathetic dean gave me credit hours for doing paperwork for the coach, who was dyslexic.

I think back to high school today and wonder about the morality of forcing a teen girl to wear short shorts against her will. Why is that even a thing? And not just girls, guys have body issues too. My husband remembers hating having to take his shirt off for gym class because that was how they distinguished teams.

I think the way high schools over there approach PE is disturbing. The whole "you have to pass this class or fail HS" sux and is so limiting.

That said, I also hated PE in HS as well, but we only had it for 3 years. Looking back, it was mostly because of being bullied, picked last, that sort of thing. And I also hated running haha.

It was a well intentioned idea, kids in TN have a high rate of obesity and it was supposed to force schools to give them some sort of exercise daily. In practice we spent most of our time standing around ignoring volleyballs, while the four girls who actually liked volleyball played around us.

@Faebert that sunrise is TO DIE FOR and is a bucket list item. Those of you who know me know that I am a slowwwwwwwww morning person. I can get up for work because that's where money comes from but getting up early for anything else is basically the worst. There's a rule in my house where we don't talk to me before some coffee.

Today at work hasn't been quite as ridiculous as the last few so that is great, but we do have two positive cases in our company, though in the Little Rock office. They're restricting the first and second floor people - it's like two different companies now, but same building. Essential businesses will do anything to keep the doors open and not pay people to be home (why I am still at the office). At least the two positive cases are there and not here, but I am sad they are there as well.

They also announced school closure for the remainder of the school year. All classes will be taught online now. It has been going okay, thanks to my amazing kids, but sending them to school is definitely easier, in my opinion. It is hard to be working and homeschooling through the day and night every day.

I haven't decided on a distance for this weekend's Uncanceled project run. I suppose it would be wise to do a shorter distance since it's easter weekend and I don't think the kids will be seeing their dad until the curve flattens a bit in his state. he is genuinely losing his mind. I'm not saying the virus should be taken lightly.

I AM saying.... it isn't an excuse to be a psychopath.

Anyway.... That gives me these options for this weekend's Hope-themed race:

    1. Half marathon again
    2. 10K
    3. 5K

Thoughts? Also let's bear in mind i already have the Full Moon 50K in July (hopefully) so maybe using this weekend as a cut back weekend for the long run for that training isn't a bad idea... And maybe I'll do a little 5K tomorrow... Idk
