@rheddmobile sorry about your fall, and troubles with your mom. That's great about your husband striking up a friendship with the son of the restaurant owner.
@SammyC121 welcome - hope you find some motivation in this group! Are you training for anything in particular?
@eleanorhawkins - I'm sure Hal is still proud of you Good job on your run. I feel for you being confined to an apartment and having it extended. I wish we knew a definite end date to this whole crisis.
@Faebert nice job on your run, glad you had some lovely weather to enjoy. I'm hoping things don't get locked down further when the weather gets so much nicer and people are losing it with being confined...
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative
04/01/20 :::: 5.0 :::: 5.0
04/02/20 :::: 3.0 :::: 8.0
04/03/20 :::: 3.5 :::: 11.6
04/04/20 :::: 10.2 :::: 21.8
My first double digit run since mid-December! I headed out to a park that is a bit farther away but has nice wide - and flat - paved trails this morning for the long run. It was starting to get pretty busy by the time I left, but less-used part of the trail it was very open. My Garmin died one hour in, so I had to do some calculating but ended up with just over 10 miles. The weather was good for running at right around 45 degrees, but I could use some sunshine. Maybe later today.4 -
@SammyC121 - You've got this! I had some issues getting out and finally made a plan for each day. So far it seems to be helping. Also @eleanorhawkins made me realize how lucky I am to be able to actually go out for a run so I am doing it for her and others who can't go out!
@eleanorhawkins - I can't imagine being stuck in your apartment for that long. We at least for now can still go for walks and runs in the neighborhood but they are slowly clamping down on that too as people are taking advantage and driving to popular hiking areas making them crowded.
@quilteryoyo - I am often more sore from doing things around the house than I am from actual workouts. I think it is just moving differently. Hope you aren't too sore from your hatchet workout. Are cedar trees invasive?
@rheddmobile - Ouch!! I almost always end up hitting my hands and knees when I have fallen. The last time I fell I got angry and sent an email off to the city and even though it took a couple of months they came around and fixed all of our sidewalks! Also I am so sorry about your mom! I hope she didn't lose much money. I worry about it with our friend Hilde but so far she has been asking what we think before acting on it.
@bearly63 - I am glad that your son is doing ok and is now back home with you. I am trying to make masks today too. I actually found some fabric that will work (I had gotten rid of most all of my fabric in a cleanup effort).
On a good note, if one can say that about this virus that is keeping most of us at home, I saw an article that the vibrations or seismic activity that people cause (with cars, trains, etc.) has died down to where seismologists can actually see smaller actual earthquake events. I didn't realize that all of our normal activities actually made the earth's crust move! Also we had a few small earthquakes last night.
Heading out for a run now, since I still can!5 -
Today is a rest day for me which is good since there is a thunderstorm happening right now. But tomorrow should be nice for my long run. Yesterday was a very stressful day for us. We had our first positive covid-19 case confirmed. I live in a small town of about 5000 people, so I knew that when the first positive came it would likely be someone that I at least knew of, but it turned out to be someone that we actually know fairly well. He goes to our church and also lives next door to my office. My husband actually sees and talks to this man on a fairly regular basis. But he has been in isolation for over 14 days (almost 3 weeks) and they are saying that if you don't have symptoms yet then you probably weren't exposed to this man. He is elderly, but I am not aware of any health issues (his wife does have health issues) and he is not hospitalized and I think he is starting to feel better already.
My daughter has been working at home for over two weeks. There was someone in her office that they think had it, but he was not tested. He and his wife both had symptoms, but they did not test them at the time because they had not been to China or Europe. They had been to Seattle, but they still did not get tested. But at least it has been a while since my daughter has had any contact with anyone in her office. And my son has been home for 11 days. Although since we are sheltered on place he still won't be able to really see anyone yet even after it has been 14 days.
I am planning to spend this afternoon making some masks. I have the fabric in the washer now. If they turn out I will need to go to the store. I have plenty of fabric, but not a lot of elasic. I just hope that it stops thundering. I hate thunder.
@bearly63 I'm glad your son is home and feeling better.
@rheddmobile That looks painful.
I hope everyone has a great day and y'all are able to get your runs in.5 -
April's running challenge 40 miles
April 2 - 3 miles
April 4 - 4 miles4 -
I forgot to post yesterday. Lots of stuff happening here!
Great runs, stressful days, introverts and extroverts living together in harmony.
@rheddmobile That looks painful! Thank god it didn't involve face or teeth...ouch!
@avidkeo Your cat is so big! He or she could totally take my little pup. Nice run too!!!
@quilteryoyo The hatchet swing workout! Love it.
My son never bother to ask to get tested in NYC. The public health website just said stay home and don't come in to a doctor or hospital unless you can't breath. He had very typical flu symptoms, but did have dry cough and tickle in his chest when he breathed deep, which is why I think it was Covid. I would love to get him a seralogic blood test done when they are available to check for antibodies and also see if he can donate plasma.
I did make him do a telemed consult with a doctor before he flew home to make sure he was ok to be out. They confirmed the CDC rules of 10 days without symptoms and no fever not using tylenol. I am keeping him at a distance here for another week and he is not allowed in my kitchen, nor can he exercise in the house - only outside.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend...I am going to try to make a mask. Way less calories than baking dessert

The mask my wife made for me has ties instead of elastic. I think I like the tie ones better, even though untying them can sometimes be a challenge.2 -
@shanaber I was surprised and am not sore at all. And, yes, cedar trees are very invasive around here. If you don't keep them cleared, they can take over an area in 3 - 4 years. The field I worked in yesterday has been cleared a couple of years ago. I have a couple of other fields that have larger trees because they have been ignored way too long. A chain saw will be needed for most of them. I hope to get them all cleared sometime this spring, if the weather cooperates.
@kgirlhart Glad your friend is getting better and you all didn't get it from him. It's scary when someone you know has it. BTW, I read this morning that ties are better for the masks than elastic because you can adjust them to make it fit better.

I had a nice run this afternoon. The plan called for 4 miles with a magic mile. I knew the magic mile would be slower because I was running outside today instead of on the treadmill. I was also doing the Un-Cancelled Project 5K, so had to do some manipulating, and calculating, with the Garmin. My stated goal for the Un-Cancelled Project was to run/walk for 3/1 minutes, even on the evil hill. I met that goal. I ran the first mile at a slow pace - 12:07. Then came the magic mile. Well, it wasn't so magic as I the timing forced me to run up hills for a lot of it. Still, I managed an 11:07 mile, with lots of huffing and puffing. I'll take it. Pushing that mile did make the other 2 miles easier to keep at around a 12 min pace. I did a mile total for warm up and cool down walks. So, total traversed today was 5.0 miles.

I am following a plan, but there isn't going to be an actual race. So it really doesn't matter whether I do what Hal tells me to or not! I get too tied up in wanting that pat on the back for following instructions precisely.
SO I decided to do them slower. I figure as the app is adaptive (supposedly), if I log slower runs that he's telling me to do and report that they were very tough he might lighten up on me!
With that in mind, I did this morning's 'long' run at a slow, relatively easy pace which ended up about 22 second per km slower than he had ordered. Yet he still gave me a pat on the back. Hmm. No doubt when I report back on the not so speedy speed work he'll notice lol.
In other news, today is day 1 of my 4th week without leaving our apartment. And our PM is expected to announce another 15 days today (on top of the week left to go, meaning it will b until April 26th at least!). We're going to try to make brownies after I do my yoga. We're gonna get so fat!
01/04: 4.81km tempo run
02/04: 6.57km base run
04/04: 9.6km easy 'long' run
April goal: 144km. Run so far: 20.98km
I love reading about you relationship with Hal! Sorry about the extended quarantine.2 -

@Avidkeo sweet kitty, what watch is that? Love the look of it
@Teresa502 there are so many people on our trails these days, it’s like why are you here, then I feel bad and think well it’s great you are out here exercising, then I think can you do that at home ha ha
@AlphaHowls I laughed out loud at the comment about not talking to your roommate for 9 months ha ha
@shanaber here if you go to the drive through testing the first thing they ask for is a doctor referral, they take your vitals and if you don’t have a temp etc you get to go home with no and a thanks for playing. We’ve had record rain every month for the past 3 months or so. It’s been beautiful for a few days but we are supposed to have rain all next week.
@rheddmobile ouchie!! Same here in Alabama, our Gov just updated our Stay at Home with the words, you’ll be fined now. Skip got a letter from her employer saying she’s allowed out and about because of work, they have cut her hours so today the boss told her to file for unemployment to make up the difference in pay because she cut her hours from generally 22 a week to 5. I said during the Gov’s update to my friend (via text) quick run to the store are the crazies will be out tomorrow. I heard there is up to a 2 hour wait to get into food stores….hello you are still allow to go to the food store, all day every day folks. I’m just pissed because I couldn’t get ketchup the other day ha ha

Thanks for the love guys.
@skippygirlsmom it's a garmin vivoactive 4s. I bought it last year even though I really didn't need to, and I LOVE it. Its slightly smaller than my old watch (vivoactive 3 music) and I find I don't whack it on things like I used to my old watch.
@rheddmobile ouch!
Rest day for me, and the clocks went back overnight (autumn here, though I'm hanging with y'all so much I want to say fall...) so it's nearly 10am body time, but only 9am clock time. Its going to be such a long day, and will be dark early!
I'm a bit achey after yesterday's run, so I'm going to do some strength training and yoga to stretch out. Other than that, a whole lot of nothing. Again.
So um second monthly question if you don't mind me asking: what's your favourite show to binge during lock down!
I'm on a startrek kick, watching TNG, currently up to season 3. And almost finished Picard. Also catching up on Outlander. Ohhh no kids around, maybe I should finally watch Breaking Bad. What service is it on?2 -
Thanks @Avidkeo I love my Garmin 235 but it just looks like a running watch.2

Yeah this is definitely a smart crossed with running watch lol i did not buy it for the smart watch capabilities. When I got my vivoactive 3, it was the steps, HR and music things I wanted (upgraded from a fitbit). Then I discovered the smart featured and I admit, I like them lol2 -

@quilteryoyo - great job on your run and magic mile especially with it being uphill!
@skippygirlsmom - yah I am not sure what the deal is with people going to the stores and buying everything up (still) here. If you can't get there early in the morning or the morning after a shipment comes in they are (still) out of most all staples, soup, pasta, breads, etc..
Completed my Gratitude Un-Canceled Virtual 5k plus a bit more. I decided to use the Peloton app and did a 45min Walk/Run Interval run once I got over to the trail. It was fun and kept me interested and the time flew by. Also ran out to an area on the access road (getting away from all the people on the regular trail) that I haven't been to in a while as it has been under construction to eventually become an extension to the trail. The river up that way looked especially beautiful!Date..........Miles........Total
04/01.......2.77..........2.77
04/02.......0.00..........2.77 - Home workout (AKA Vizsla Strength Training)

We just watched all 10 episodes of Picard and now, circling back to the Doctor. We are only on season 11 so have some to work through.2 -
Well, I am finally on the board with 2 miles.
Our governor is choosing not to do a shelter in place, and instead just gets very angry in press conference, coming JUST short of adding the F, to the “stay the F home”... and he is right, a shelter in place wouldn’t add much, because we wouldn’t have the personnel to enforce anything.
But we don’t have a social distancing F for no reason.... he gets red in the face and has what he called an “outburst” trying to convince people to listen. And today people were everywhere. Not that I helped the F, I traveled 30 miles and was at a Walmart by 7am (ugh), to try and find cleaning stuff for the office.....
But, having already had my improvised/no sew mask on for my Walmart trip, and people everywhere it got me thinking of if I’m going to start to wear a mask on my runs since dodging people is just going to get worse as days get nicer-since national parks and forest service are mostly closed, and state parks are headed that way. So, I played with it a bit... and holy smokes ....my lungs are either going to have to get tougher, or my runs will stay pretty short with that plan.... also... those of you who are already masked running.... ummm how does hydration work with that’s plan??
And a quarantine related funny (or at least I thought it was funny) below.So, despite waking up stupid early on a Saturday, I was unsuccessful at acquiring disinfecting wipes. I could, however find good old fashioned bleach. And, although that isn’t my favorite idea, as I tend to end up with the darn wipeys in my pocket fairly regularly.... it will get the job done. So, I took my empty wipe container, a gallon of water and the bleach and was working on making wipeys for work.
While I was getting this process together, I was texting the boyfriend. And so I sent him the below picture, that I considered to be perfectly reasonable.....
And his only response was “Ummmm.... what’s with the hacksaw??”
The logical answer was..... that is what I was using to cut the towel rolls in half to fit them in my container....
but.... then I realized the other possible conclusion from this picture.....
Apparently, (in case any of you wondered where this line was...) apparently, your possibly crazy from quarantine girlfriend having lots of bleach is ok.... it is when you add a hacksaw to the equation.... THAT is when people start getting nervous.11 -

Excellent choices. Hmmm 8d happily go back to season 1 of new who, its like comfort food!0 -
@hanlonsk - that is hilarious but then my first question was 'what does she need a saw for making wipes' 😂
I saw a friend early on on my run this morning (a walker not a runner although she does walk very fast) who was wearing a mask for the 1st time and we talked about it. She said it was making her crazy. Her nose runs all the time (mine too) so she has to lift the mask to take care of that and then the same if she wants a sip of water. She felt like her exposure was worse because she was always having to touch the mask. I am making masks too wear when I have to go to the store or to pick up food or things like that but I will not wear it when I run. I am pretty sure I will suffocate if I did. I am choosing instead to go way out of my way to run where there aren't as many people and I can stay far away from those that are there.3 -
Thanks everyone I walked 6miles to the post office yesterday7

This is exactly why masks are not recommended generally. They give a false sense of security, the the constant need to touch them to generally live life makes them redundant. Also most people don't actually wear then correctly anyway.
Sorry it's a huge bug of mine, seeing people wearing them and constantly touching them, or worse, not covering their nose, just their mouth. Makes it pointless. Also most masks are only designed to last 20 mins before having to be replaced.7 -
Morning all. Struggle again this morning, despite glorious sunshine and near empty (7am on Sunday in lockdown) streets. Should have been a joy but I couldn’t clear my mind. I’m nervous about going back to work tomorrow. I feel guilty about having to put my own children at risk by sending them to their school while I look after other key worker children at the school where I teach. And after a while in lockdown it will now feel so strange to be within 2 metres of these kids and my colleagues. Then I feel silly because I know people like @Avidkeo are being so much braver and really putting themselves on the line.
So I guess I was dragging my own mental chains this morning - love the reference @Tramboman! Squeezed in my 3.5m though.
Good wishes to all celebrating Palm Sunday today. Keep safe everyone xx

Hugs! What you are doing is so important too. Thank you for doing what you do.
This whole situation is a complete mind screw. I'm finding my favourite thing is getting out for a run/walk bec3ita one thing I can actually control and hasn't been affected (yet?)2 -
@rheddmobile Sorry about your fal! Glad it wasn’t worse.0

Hubby and I went for a 4 mile hike yesterday. We have discovered a few local trails that we’ve never visited, so we are planning to try them over the next few weeks before it gets too hot. It is one of the few things we are still allowed to do outside of the house.4
-
@shanaber Thanks. Looks like a great place to run and you killed it. I need to get some headphones and try some of the apps I am hearing about - or just listen to music. I think it would make the longer runs easier.
@hanlonsk Hahaha I didn't even see the hacksaw to begin with. I love crime shows, so that is sort of what it looks like - getting ready to do someone in and clean up afterwards.
