I wondered about that Darwin picture. Apparently his personal hygiene was less than perfect.
Heather: I have a ripper outer. Wouldn’t use it in my lady garden though. Just on legs and the odd facial sprout. 😂 I was growing my hair out, so that’s not a problem either.
I’ve been making masks from fabric. They have a pocket for a removable filter. I am thinking of joining a group sewing scrubs for care workers.
Terri If you have a pattern or at least the dimensions and basic instructions, my partner is very interested in how to make that mask.
This is the pattern I used.

Julie - I just finished watching Season 1 of Virgin River. It was something pretty good, not a lot of drama and sirens but enough to make you know your not watching a Hallmark movie.
Another 4 episode that I just watched is called the life of Madame CJ walker, I can’t remember the exact title but it’s similar to above. It is about the First Female in America to become a self-made millionaire. It was an interesting show and killed a Sunday afternoon.
Beth - I wonder if Nashville and the music industry aren’t even bigger when this is said and done. I’ve been watching a lot of the live performances from living rooms and following several different groups on FB and it seems that music is helping millions mentally cope right now. It sure will be interesting to see how our world will change when we all get out the other end of this.
Kylia- sorry to read about your MIL.
Margaret- condolences to yourself, husband and family.

Thank you for your support.
I talked to her on the phone on Monday. They were going to be doing tuck pointing on her condo unit that week. They did try to take precautions but with her lungs problems I am wondering if that might have been a contributing factor. She was watering plants on Tuesday near the windows when it happened to her.
It just makes me stop and realize how important it is to appreciate everyday!

Did Cathy Friedrich’s To the Max DVD. I don’t think I’ll keep this one, too high intensity and too many times I found myself having to modify and they didn’t tell you how to modify. The plan for tomorrow is to do an extreme cardio DVD
Rebecca – I, for one, thought we were already friends on here. But I see we aren’t so I sent you a friend request
Bananas – I like the chocolate shop posting “in case of emergency”…lol I’m so sorry you were sick. Please get better fast
I guess I ate at a fast food place about a year ago, and that was because I wanted to try the Impossible Burger at BK. Before then, it’d probably been years except for Subway
Kylia – what horrible news!
Barbara – that’s why I try to take my car in for an oil change either early in the a.m. shortly after they open or right after they get back from lunch. I’ve gotten to where I now keep a soap box (the kind you use for travel) in my car with some wipes in it for use when I buy gas. Most gas stations have a garbage can so I just toss it right before I get back in the car.
I remember a while ago Vince was working on a project in Puerto Rico. This was when he worked for Mars. Well, the sales of Pedigree pet food were thru the roof. Way beyond Mars’ expectations. They found that (yuk) people were making meatloaf out of the dogfood. I have a hard time believing we would do that in this country, but I guess you never know
I, too, thought “leveling the house next door” meant razing it to the ground
Making more yogurt right now. The milk is coming down to temp as I sit here
SuziQ – yes, Jess is over 18. She’s 36. See, now that Colby is here, it seems that she’s more pickey. Not sure why. He isn’t pickey. It seems they like to eat later. Last night they ate at 9pm. Before, she didn’t have a problem eating with us. If I ate that late, there is no way I could go to sleep, but I guess it’s an “oh to be young again” thing. I guess I was just feeling down. She did make them a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch. I like to use Amazon for their reviews, and like you, then I look for something cheaper. The problem comes in that some stores don’t update their websites. Like we are looking for plastic totes. Everyone at Target says “out of stock”. I just can’t believe they are out of stock of ALL the totes. Now they aren’t taking returns so Vince will have to go and look at them. Jess told me yesterday that she likes Ragu spaghetti sauce, not the stuff I get. Well, that’s just toughy beans. I will not spend the money on Ragu. If you don’t like what I have, you buy Ragu yourself. She came home “where I can eat for free”, I’m not about to drastically change my buying habits. If you don’t like it, don’t eat spaghetti. Problem solved. I don’t think I’ll buy any more spaghetti-o’s, either.
Going to have hamburgers tonight. I know Jess doesn’t like when the burger buns have been frozen, but that’s what she’s getting. I’m not going to tell her, but there is no way I’m going back to the store for fresh burger buns – no way in the world Update: she never said a word
Barbie – instead of smiling which you know people can’t see, you can always give someone a thumbs up
Unfortunately, we don’t have a Cosco near us. The closest is Sams. My issue is that they have such large quantities and a very limited variety. Plus, it seems that most things are heavily spiced. Had to go to the post office. I was cleaning and found some pictures. I have no idea who is in them so I sent them to my cousin – maybe she can figure it out. If not, it looks like into the garbage for them. Then stopped at Big Lots and got some totes and a new pillow for Lexi. Took a walk to Food Lion since my mandolin won’t slice the tomato for tonight so I had to do it myself, which means the slices are thicker. Also got some frozen peaches. What is it with frozen fruit? WM didn’t have ANY yesterday and FL had very little today.
My neighbor gave me a ride to Food Lion. She said she was on her way to her daughter’s. I must say that I’m a bit surprised. She’s the one whose hubby is in Afghanistan. Driving to see her daughter isn’t exactly necessary driving. I’m seeing more and more cars on the road.
Amber – lovely garden
Margaret – my deepest condolences

bananasandoranges wrote: »@Machka9 I'm sorry you don't feel comfortable in your life and that you have to do some things you don't want to do. It sounds like all on the list involve speaking or exchanging with others you. Is that accurate? I think you said you are introvert. Have you always been? Has that evolved in some ways? Liking more of this or less of that? Yes it's can be so long to find a vaccine if they find one: 30 years for polio is long.
I have always been an introvert ... and so have my parents.
I've always liked doing things individually or in very small groups of family or close friends:
-- cycling
-- hiking
-- running
-- walking
-- cross country skiing
-- snowshoeing
-- canoeing
-- swimming
-- reading
-- computer stuff
For entertainment, I like going to plays and the symphony ... places where I can sit back and watch without interacting.
And travelling. But I tend to like going remote places during the shoulder season or off season.
I find crowds stressful and I find interacting with people stressful and I find having to be somewhere at a certain time to interact with people very stressful.
While I love learning, and would love to continue to attend university, their teaching methods have really put me off. I learn best if I can attend a lecture (or listen to it at home), and do my own work. I find it very difficult to work with a group and I spend more time just being frustrated than actually learning. I also have to give up my standards and just go with whatever rubbish the group is going to put together and that maddens me to tears sometimes.
For example, I just got back the feedback for one my group assignments. The feedback points out my sections as being done well and points out the other sections as lacking this and that. I knew that when I submitted it. I tried and tried to explain it to my group members but they wouldn't listen. So now I'll likely get a low mark because my section was only 1/4 of the assignment.
It's not fair. I know life isn't fair, but I'm dealing with enough of life's unfairness with my husband's situation, I don't need to "learn" it by getting crappy marks on my assignments.
Fortunately, I am almost finished university and if I do decide to continue with more education at some point, it will be on my own terms. And fortunately COVID-19 stepped in and made a significant improvement to the way the two courses I'm taking right now are being taught!! I am really hoping it's still around for semester 2!!

bananasandoranges wrote: »HOME GYM EQUIPMENT
i know this question was going around some time ago, maybe a few times. but living in 500 sq ft and having a very modestly priced new gym 5 min walk i didn't really pay attention. but since gyms probably won't open till god knows when, i was looking at acquiring one piece of equipment. at the gym i use the elliptical most often (weight bearing, decent calorie burn and no impact (impact is s problem for me due to foot issues and also knee issues). but i don't think there are small ish quality elliptical machines. That seems to leave bicycles and rowers right? Both seem to have some decent quality reasonably priced (200-400 euros) solid, folding or compact models with many hundreds of good reviews. Any recommendation between rowers and cycles? Any (not very voluminous recommendations)? I know i can do air cycling etc, but i think i'm more likely to do a machine like i actually DID do at the gym around 2x a week on average. THANKS FOR ANY TIPS.
thanks you guys
The easiest thing would be to pick up a trainer like this one, for example, and put your bicycle on it. You could go more expensive with the TACX trainers if you wanted but that's probably not necessary to start with.
https://www.decathlon.co.uk/inride-100-turbo-trainer-id_8402844.html
You could just ride or put the TV on and go with commercial intervals (ride hard during the commercials) or sign up with Zwift.
This method allows you to tuck the trainer away and ride your bicycle outside whenever you want.

Thanks ladies, I appreciate you all!
So today was a nice plate of 4 Triscut crackers, a thick slice of Tillamook pepper jack cheese (cut in fourths), opened a mini cup of avocado guacamole( to "glue" the cheese on the cracker), and a slice of fridge pickled cucumbers. It was perfect! Then for lunch l put a pat of fresh creamy Tillamook butter in my saute' pan and seared a nice fish fillet with lots of spices. I then put a lid on it until it could be shredded with a fork. I put that in two small street taco sized warm torillas, with lettuce, spinach, some of my fridge cucumbers, tomato, and a smear of avocado. It was delightful! I closed my window with a small bowl of yogurt, and some red grapefruit segments. Yummy!
This evening I made a mini thanksgiving for husband and son. Store bought turkey slices in gravy, some boiled baby potatoes, dressing, yams in a butter brown sugar glaze. Made more gravy, and opened a can of cranberry sauce. They loved it. I played chef.💖 I did cut a lone apple I needed to use up, and sliced it into the yam mixture. Putting away the leftovers I decided to make muffins out of the apple, yams leftovers. So I mixed Kodiak flapjack mix, with milk, egg, cinnamon, vanilla and the mixture. The recipe called for butter, which was in the leftovers, and a banana which I had apples and yams. It turned out really good! I sampled half of one! I will be snacking on these to start my eating window. It turned out well!
Made broth too today! Used turmeric!

When places say they are closing to do a "deep clean", my question is ... why on earth aren't you doing that on a regular basis? 🤔
Especially hospitals! Our northern hospitals closed to do a "deep clean". Really? You're a hospital! Deep cleans should happen regularly. The local transit company informed me that they do a "deep clean" (which means they shampoo the carpet on the seats but don't clean the window ledges or floors or anything) every few months. My office does a "deep clean" about once a decade after about 90% of us were sick in 2017. My university decided to do a "deep clean" this year for the first time in ... I don't know, it's the first time they've mentioned it since I've been going there.
And what is a "deep clean" ... does it mean they vacuum around the edges and behind the furniture? Do they break out the carpet shampooers? Do they wash walls? Clean ducts???
Hopefully now places will look at ways to make it easier ...
Rip out carpets and put down hard surface flooring that can be washed and disinfected regularly.
I'd like to see the interior of buses be like a shower interior that can be hosed out every night.
Same with public toilets. Build them so they can be well sprayed with disinfectant and hosed out. Plus automatic everything so that we don't have to touch things.
I'm hoping that society will start looking at ways to clean and be clean ... and I'm hoping that might help prevent or reduce the impact of future flus, viruses, etc.

Rebecca I love that you are so intuitive with your substitutions - it seems as if nearly all of your adapted recipes turn out really well. Those muffin/mini-loaves look wonderful. So does the broth. I use jars like that, too. They work great for broth and gazpacho, soups, etc.
Margaret Was your sister-in-law your husbands only sibling? Were they close?
Machka It is sad when collaboration results in mediocrity rather than excellence. It happens a lot, I think. Very frustrating for the high-achieving. Maddening, to use your description.
>>>
So tired.
Going to sleep now.
Karen in Virginia3 -
Karen in VA yes she was his only sibling, and they were close. In recent years they had taken trips together and he had gone down to help her when she was at low points due to her illness. She has one son who lives in Chicago too but due to COVID, and he has a small child he wasn't able to help her as much lately.
She was able to find a service for getting good quality food and she was getting well enough to do a few things in her condo. She was recently able to have her cat back. A friend had been taking care of her cat while she recovered.
I was really afraid she would have gotten COVID given her medical history she would have more than likely gotten the bad version. She died of a heart attack. I still think her lung issues played a part in her attack.
DH just got a big batch of popcorn she sent him for his birthday! That is why she had called on Monday to let us know it was coming.6 -
Margaret: I am so sorry for your loss.
Snowflake: I love the chance to look for something to read. Today I returned the book I’d borrowed to the book swap box so someone else can enjoy it.
TerriRichards: Thank you for posting the mask making tutorial. I also thank you for your kind words about the death in our family. The loss was my daughter-in-law’s mom. She’d been fighting cancer for several years. I’m sorry if my post was confusing. :flowerforyou:
