What are your biggest food/beverage product disappointments?

Alcohol. EVERY SINGLE TIME! Whenever someone tells me they have just the right mix for me to enjoy, I just don't. Some are more tolerable than others, but it says something when first thought is "this would be perfect if it wasn't for that little bit of alcoholic aftertaste".
Steak. I have tried it countless times in countless restaurants and home preparations because everyone seems to like it so much so I must be missing something. Nope, I had to accept that I just don't like steak.
Low fat Greek yogurt. I grew up eating full fat (even extra fat) so when I first found a low fat option I was happy. I was very disappointed when I tried it. The mouthfeel and "fullness" of it in my mouth so shockingly different. It made me a bit sad because it would have been a great option. I eat it daily so it would have saved me lots of calories.
Diet ice creams, any and all. Every single brand I tried, and I tried quite a few brands and flavors. NO!
Sweet popcorn. Heard a lot about it, didn't even give it a second chance. It just doesn't compute. It felt like you would feel eating fish smothered in Nutella. Does not compute because popcorn = salty. (I do love Nutella, by the way)
But worst of all, my sleep paralysis monster, low or no fat hard cheese.5 -

I didn't really care for the one Smashburger I tried.
With you, Smashburger sucks! Not cheap either😒 hate Halo Top,avacodos, those dumb Built Bars who keep sending me emails cuz I bought a box months ago, Quest bars suck(except the Hero ones but not sure if they're still around) the Keto diet sucks, most protein powder sucks, wow I could go on and on🤣2 -
Oh and I despise Panera🤮2

But if you know how their food is prepared, it's less than desirable haha4 -
No way! The salads I make myself are 100000x better, bigger, tastier and cheaper! Their salads are not worth it and nothing special in my opinion. So much rather make my own. I think all their food is overhyped and over priced.chris89topher wrote: »
Also I think all Starbucks drinks are over hyped and nothing great. I’ve had a few and was super underwhelmed and disappointed I wasted calories when I could make a similar drink at home for free and less calories.
Anything they make I can make even better with my own skinny mixes syrups, almond milk, stevia and truvia.

I can live without these.

I think I mostly love you!
Have to say that I do like a glass of good, full-bodied red wine every now and then. Or a glass of good gin. The problem with that is that a good bottle of gin costs anywhere from 35-70 Euro. And once you calculate what that bit of clear liquid at the bottom of the glass costs ... well, it's not something I do regularly. But no, I don't like mix drinks (well, a good caipirinha might be an exception), beer, any sweet alcoholic things.0 -
YES to the Panera. They have a few decent soups, but they're just so expensive for what you get. And I haven't had a sandwich there that is worth the price. I honestly like Subway better lol (I know, I know).1

Primal vegan jerky.
Yeah, the vegan jerky concept is pretty questionable to start with. But there are other brands that are at least edible. Primal? Just no, no, no. Bleauh!2 -

The only thing I like at Panera are those breakfast souffles. Although, I have made my own copycat version at home and it's better, if I do say so myself.1 -
@amusedmonkey I’m so glad to hear you come out of the closet on alcohol. People think I’m a snarky, judgemental teetotaler. That’s not it at all. Drink all you want, folks.
It just all tastes so very very bad to me, I can’t even conceive of why people claim they drink it for pleasure. I’d rather drink rubbing alcohol.
We went on a lovely trip through Republic of Georgia last spring, and went to several famous wineries, including one so famous that their entire crop of “dessert wine” is always bought up before it hits market. I thought “this is it! My chance to learn to love wine!” The hosts were horrified I had one sip and wouldn’t drink any more of this so called nectar of the gods. Ugh.
I was quite popular on that trip, with constant side whispers of “can I have your glass if you’re not gonna drink it?”.13 -

I had such high hopes for this.... I mean "crispy vegan jerky"..."bacon"... was very sad it was nothing more than some chewy dried carrots with seasoning. Nothing even remotely reminiscent of bacon, bacon flavor or jerky lol.

These LOOKED and sounded SO delicious but smelled and tasted like cow manure. They were so disgusting. I rarely have a bar that I throw out after one bite. These left me feeling sick to my stomach for days just thinking about them.
Anything made with "hemp" I find disgusting.5 -

Salad dressings, syrups, coffee syrups, etc. Yuck.
I've tried so many brands and finally gave up because they all have that nasty, chemical, artificial taste to them.
Also, this ice cream. Judging by the picture, you'd assume it has a lot of oreo pieces in it, right? WRONG. I think in the entire half gallon, there was maybe three pieces total. And I wish that were an exaggeration.
I ju3want to comment that that is NOT icecream. Look at the package "frozen dairy dessert" which usually means no cream at all. It's full of powdered thickeners and maybe a bit of milk. I got caught one day because they are in the same section as icecream, and was a brand I had tried before (not this one). And they look like icecream. But they are not. They are a gelatinous gluggy sludge of sugar and blah.
MUST have cream in it to be called icecream. Pays to double check the packaging and ingredients.5 -

On the "bar" note... here are a couple others that I've found disappointing:

Me, too.
Personally, I don't like PB2 (texture-wise, mostly) as a spread rehydrated with water, but I do like the plain flavor as a way to enrich the flavor of sauces. Good mixed with fermented gochujang chile paste and rice vinegar, over stir fries or Asian styles of noodles, for example. Adding some fresh ginger or (if I have the calories) sesame oil is a fine thing. And the PB2 chocolate flavor is good mixed with plain Greek yogurt and frozen berries.5 -

I absolutely love it in oatmeal. I don't love real peanut butter as much in oatmeal.4 -
Pb2 also blends well when making protein shakes. It gives it that something extra without the added calories of jarred peanut butter. On a sandwich however I will use the jar2

Most light beers. Flavorless fizzy water.
Sam Adams is the one light beer I have tried that is worth my dollars. Although I usually just drink a high calorie beer and deal with the extra calories.3 -

When it comes to beer for me is Guiness or nothing.
However, if I am going to drive, Heineken 00 i actually very very good. I will put it on top of all the zero alkohol and low calorie options for sure.
With you on this. It's stout or get out couple local breweries have some good brews too0 -
People were raving about these....”OMG, there’s only 4 ingredients and you can pronounce them all, and they are soooo good and good for you!!”
They are a disgusting, gummy calorie bomb.
I rarely spit out food, but this was too gross.

Oooo not the cinnamon spice but I really like the chocolate peanut butter. But I stick to the kids version which is like 130 calories.1 -
In general, frozen pizza. Very hard to find one that hits it out of the park. Although I scored a winner recently with California Pizza Kitchen barbecue chicken thin crust, that was amazing.2

I think the one I tried actually was blueberry. It wasn't the flavor that bothered me...the texture...it was like some weird taffy.2 -

not my first choice bar by any means. The chocolate coffee is GARBAGE. But I do actually like the chocolate mint. Really hit or miss, and ingredients aren't THAT healthy to justify them2 -
