@mbaker566 What an utterly gorgeous dress!
Happy May everyone!
Tomorrow was supposed to be my 20 mile trail race, instead I'm going to pile all my energy into Sunday's long run. I really struggled miles 13-17 last week due to general hydration level so I'm focusing on fixing that.
5/1: 2m

@Ringbearer2 I've thought about doing that in a year, but not 3 months. That's a lot of running. What part of TN do you live in? I'm in upper E. TN.
@Scott6255 Glad you are all CoVID free. Hugs to you and your wife dealing with your aunt. Dementia is such a horrible disease and so hard on the family. I hope you can get her back into the assisted living center soon.1 -

3?
May, June, July, August = 4 right? So not as bad as you thought?1 -

250k a month? I do not know your fitness level, but that is a pretty serious commitment. Just make sure you are up to it, especially given that Tennessee will be nice and warm for most of that time. If that is in the range you know you can do, then go for it! Even if it is a little stretch, maybe more so.
Oh it’s virtual, so most of it will be in my living room in Germany. 😀 My goal is to end up running at least half, with percentages increasing as I improve. My overall fitness is pretty good according to my V02 max and I hike 10-15 miles in rugged terrain (or at least I used to) fairly regularLy so im not too worried about that. Mostly it’s a medium term goal I think could actually be accomplished, given the current variables.
Also, I was born in TN, so there’s that...

@quilteryoyo, I don’t live there, it’s a virtual race. I just thought it would be fun because I was born in Knoxville. Plus my crazy Ironman athlete friend made me do it and I also roped my daughter in as well.

My goal for May is 55Km4

Well 1000km / 4 months = 250km per month
250km / 4 weeks = 62.5 km per week
62.5km /7 days = roughly 9km a day.
So about 6 miles a day is ballpark I would say. Probably want to do more for the days you will miss due to scheudal, weather, and such though.2 -

January Total: 161k
February Total: 167k
March Total: 181k
April Total: 191k
2020 Total through April: 700k
Doesn't get much better than today. 45 degrees F, a light misty drizzle, and just a bit of a breeze from the north.
You may want to slow down there a little bit buddy. You are already 21k past your May goal, and it's only May 1!9 -
@PastorVincent Apparently I can't count. LOL I was going by August being the 8th month and May the 5th, so 8-5 is 3, right? Forgot to be inclusive instead of exclusive.
@Ringbearer2 Cool that you were born in Knoxville. I'm not too far from there. Can't imagine trying to do that challenge in my living room. I hope that means you have a treadmill in there.
Welcome to all the newcomers!
Today's plan called for Speed Play: easy warm up for 10 minutes followed by 3 x 2 minutes hard/2 minutes easy, finish with 5 minute easy. I did laps on the driveway again. It was pretty windy, but otherwise great weather wise. But, I think Garmin was sleeping or something. As many times as I have done these driveway laps, I pretty much know how far the lap and how fast I am going. It started with my warm up walk. Normally one lap is 0.31 miles and takes me 5 minutes. Well, today I had to go a little bit further than one lap to get 0.30 miles and it took 5:30 minutes...3.3 mph. I haven't walked that slowly, when trying to walk fast, in ages. The theme continued during the run and cool down walk too. I checked the track afterwards and there are no gaps like it dropped out or anything. It was just different today. I'm just going with what Garmin said, but am about 99% sure that I went further and faster than what it showed.

Almost forgot to tell you I ordered new shoes today. I ordered the Brooks Launch 6. It's the old style, so they were on sale. Only $65. My current shoes are Brooks Adrenaline GTS. I got them because I had some overpronation, but when I did the test for that today, I don't seem to have it anymore. Is it possible to correct that sort of thing? We'll see. The good thing about Brooks is that you get 90 days to return them. They predict that I will get them next week.6

It is actually a very normal mistake to make. While in college I took a lot of useless classes but one interesting class was essentially on counting and we covered lots of gotchas like this one. Most of the class I have of course forgotten, but I seem to have remembered enough to get this count right.

@quilteryoyo I just brought a new pair of Brooks Launch too. Can’t wait for them to get here, they are what I wear all the time on the road. I usually buy at my local Fleet Feet but the didn’t have any.1 -
@skippygirlsmom That's good to hear. I hope I like them as much as you do.2

Hey guys - guess what? I decided to take on a crazy challenge. The 4 x 4 x 48 challenge where you run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. So 48 miles in 48 hours. Why? This guy told me to (link to short video). Main gist: to get outside your comfort zone and strengthen your mind. Spartan training.
My trainer and a friend had been planning to do this for a few weeks and I first said "that's crazy", then was noncommittal, and then I said no I'm not doing it. But they were starting this morning at 9 and I woke up and felt like I should do it. So I ran the the 4 miles at 9 and then texted my trainer and said I'm doing it. And then I regretted it almost immediately
3 out of 12 runs done, 12 out of 48 miles.
Running thoughts:
Run 1, 9 am - Good morning! Lovely day on the trails, a little muddy, I better do roads from here on. I can totally do this. I'm in!
Run 2, 1 pm - OK, we're good, it's a good temp, I still got a few things done today between runs, feeling fine. This is easier than a long run. I can do this.
Run 3, 5 pm - All right, it's still fine, but it's gotten a little chillier and is starting to mist and I'm not super into this. Drove to a new location so the change is good. The misty rain is starting to get a little more intense. OK, now I'm soaked and this is less fun, but I'm done. I hope I can do this.
Next run at 9 pm.10 -

Ohhh pretty! Love the first one!
Here is mine!
Did my 16k run this morning. Went along the foreshore which was fantastic! It was great to start, but the last couple of Kms it was PACKED! So many people out. Including large groups of friends. I was starting to get peeved because yeah we are allowed to range a bit further from home, but are supposed to still keep distance from people and still keep to our home bubbles.
I just hope that we don't get a second wave.
As far as the run went, it was great. 16k feels about what a 8-10k felt like a few weeks ago. I love it when training pays off.
I'm still a little sore from yesterdays fall. Just a bit of bruising in my knee and left hip fortunately. But yesterday at work, omg my poor hands. I wash my hands between every patient, using alcohol rub of soap and water. Frequently the alcohol rub is quickest. Just think, alcohol and scraped hands....4 -
Completed my first 6.2 miles of my race across Tennessee. Ran the first 3.8 (outside! Yay) and walked the rest. It’s May Day here, which is a big holiday and saw lots of non-distancing groups and questionable beverage and food service. It was quite disconcerting.2
-
@Avidkeo ow for your poor hands! I’m surprised there were so many people out. My in laws live in NZ and they said everyone’s been pretty compliant, but that people started lining up at McDonalds hours before it opened.1
-
Wow, one day late and we’ve got crazy run challenges @katharmonic, more shoe porn @contrarymarymary and an injury already @avidkeo! It is never dull on these boards! 😉
So for me this month I’m with @loveychar and I’m going to drop my mileage right down as I want to do strength/circuit training every other day, and chuck a bit more yoga in there too. So a 60 mile goal and I’ve just done my first 4 miles of it this morning in beautiful sunshine!
May goal: 60 miles
May total: 4.2 miles
2/5: 4.2 miles
April: 115 m
March: 76.4 m
February: 17.8 m
January: 04 -
@katharmonic The 4 x 4 x 48 sounds really intense! Will you also get up in the middle of the night to run? I think already 24h of that would be crazy tough, but 48...!
@Avidkeo and @ContraryMaryMary nice shoe pictures I just realised I want need new shoes too
5km/100km done. With 5x20s strides in the middle of the run.
I haven't done any real speedwork lately, I'll start incorporating that a bit more this month, I think.
And I need to find a hill for hill repeats! I moved to a new place a few month ago, and everything here is flat. I spent a while browsing lists of Strava segments, but didn't find any nice hill nearby. I will have to widen my search radius.

It's official... Hal wants to kill me.
The heading today was 'Race or simulation 5k'. Ok, that sounds reasonable. Hal says: 'today, you run hard.' Yes sir.
Workout description: 1.5km warm up, 4x 100m hard, 100m easy. 5 miles at 5k race pace. 1km cool down.
Hang on. 5 MILES???
I did it. On the treadmill. My brain screamed the entire time. My legs screamed most of the second half. But I did it. May not be able to walk tomorrow. I'm starting to miss the evil physio.
Garmeen the drama queen reckons I need 72 hours to recover. For once I don't think she's exaggerating. She also said (I know, not all that accurate on the treadmill) I set 3 PRs: fastest mile, fastest 5k and fastest 10k.
If that doesn't make me deserve pizza, nothing does!
And a nap!
I decided to wait until Monday to go outside to run. Hopefully there won't be as many Covidiots out there then, this morning the crowds are crazy apparently.
02/05: 11.3km race pace (+ warm up, cool down)
May goal: 140km. Run so far: 11.3km5 -
