@Camaramandy648 Biggest hugs to you and your son. Wishing the best news in Sunday.
@shanaber @skippygirlsmom I find it fascinating as well, especially that I ca run like I do. Though I suspect this why my heart rates are higher at exercise. And why I probably will never be much faster than I am now. A little maybe but not by much.
@Avidkeo Yes probably the right thing. I never listen and always takes me longer to heal. So yeah. Hope,it gets better with the PT.
Was a rest day today. It’s still raining here and has been for 3 days straight. Today was the worst day with many storms. We are under flash flood warnings. Tomorrow is usually long run day, but it’s supposed to storm in the morning again and have a break about 11 am. It will be hot and humid by then. BUT! Sunday will be 75 and lows in the 50’s. Much better right!? So gonna switch the days and figure out some sort of cross training tomorrow, or take another rest day!5 -
@Avidkeo Sorry about your calf, but glad you were sensible and stopped. Hopefully the rest and PT will take care of the issue.

Got 3 more miles in this evening. Gorgeous outside. Brings me to 36 out of 40. Gotta do 2 and 2 - think I can!5

10k night run. Was feeling depressed about running the same spots so we ran another direction to a tiny park with a lake. Very pretty with the moon reflected in the water. It’s summer here now, everything has stopped smelling like honeysuckle and the lemony smell of magnolia is overwhelming at night. There are so many big old magnolia trees in this area. Not a fast run but my morale has improved by going someplace pretty.
That’s it for me for May, since tomorrow is a lifting day. I haven’t even kept track of my mileage since I was running by feel since my knee was injured. It’s still not great (and if it is a meniscus tear as I suspect they take forever to fully heal) but doing well enough that it doesn’t stop me from running, so that’s a success. And I finished my race series which was my other goal for May.9 -

Really didn't plan on running today. Was just going to go for a walk because both feet hurt (right PF, left top outside tendinitis). But I knew I was only 5 miles away from my 100 miles for the month, so turned it into a slow jog/walk interval. Need to take some time off to try to heal (pun intended).

May 26th- 2.7 miles
May 30th- 3 miles
While life got in the way and I didn't run for 3 days, but I can still meet my goal as long as I run tomorrow. I assure you without this group I would not have run 3 miles today to make sure I will meet my goal tomorrow

I ran a half marathon! Not a race, but the course of a race that was supposed to have been in April and has been postponed to July, but they had marked the course and were allowing people to do it virtually. I was never signed up for this race, but a friend was and she asked a couple of us if we wanted to run the course with her today. I debated because I haven't run the distance since November or December. But ultimately I couldn't pass up a chance to chat with some friends and run in a new location - on what turned out to be a gorgeous day. It was 59 degrees when we started and I was feeling pretty chilly in my shorts and tank. I knew I would soon warm up but I really wanted to wear my long sleeves.
The course was nice - just outside the suburbs on some country roads through mostly farmland. There were some hills but not terrible. Although I prematurely and incorrectly declared one hill to be probably the last and the worst (based on no knowledge just a feeling I had that we had to be on the downhill for the rest).
We certainly didn't race this, but kept a good steady pace. I finished in 2:28 (with one stop of the watch in the middle when we made a water stop), which if it were a race would be ranked something like 10th out of 15 in my personal HM race times. Mile 3 was the fastest and mile 9 was the slowest (the aforementioned hill), which is pretty typical of how HM tend to go for me. When we got to the finish, the race director and a couple of people had actually set up a table and were giving out the swag for the people who had signed up for it, and they had some water bottles they let the rest of us take too. They even cheered a little and had a cowbell! It felt *almost* like a real race day. The swag was nice - a really nice hoodie and a great medal. I was a little jealous and sad I hadn't signed up for this. My friend who did intends to run the race if they hold it in July so this was a practice for her, but she got her swag anyway.
So that puts me at my **highest mileage month EVER!** September 2018 was my previous high total - 180.6 miles - which was the month before my marathon. I certainly did not see going higher than that this month, or really ever again. I'll do a short run tomorrow to keep my streak going, but it won't add much to the total.
I don't really have a training plan right now so I don't know where I'll go from here, but I'll wander over to the June thread soon and deliberate some goals.

@Camaramandy648 You and your son are in my thoughts.
Got a text from my mom this morning asking if I was okay (I'm in a neighborhood close to civil unrest) because she hadn't seen my run on Strava yet. Had to let her know I was fine, I just slept a bit later than usual. That's what you get for having a run streak. We are geographically very close to all the tumult, but it also feels far away since I haven't seen anything but helicopters and graffiti. They have boarded up all the buildings in my area, including the bottom floor of my apartment building, but I don't think it's going to get this far unless things get really crazy tonight. Fortunately, we're buttoned up with nowhere to be (until tomorrow's run, which I'd better get to early enough to reassure my mom).

I understand some of the fancier features getting moved, but I really didn't think this counted as "premium"-style content. Oh well!
In case someone else has this problem, there's a workaround I read somewhere else: Strava allows you to keep track of bike part mileage separate from the bike in total. So now I edit my bike to add a fake component with installation date May 1st. I can now see that 123 km my "rear wheel" of brand "monthly distance" has been used for 123 km. So I can figure out that of the 269 total km, 146km are running.
Unfortunately, that doesn't work anymore if you add hiking, skiing or any other distance-activity...

@PastorVincent I love my Plantronics Backbeat Fit headphones too! I didn't know they had changed anything. Fortunately, I bought a second pair more than a year ago, when I had a coupon for a shop that had them on sale, "just in case". Surprisingly enough, the first pair is still alive - after long heavy rain runs of up to 3 hours. I also had them in the washing mashine once - fortunately, only for a 15-minute-express cycle. The only thing I killed in the washing mashine years ago was a Garmin Vivofit...
@ContraryMaryMary Kudos on the training success! Faster and at a lower heart rate, that's great
@Camaramandy648 Your test experience sounds horrible! And I completely understand that it's impossible to stay away from him. I wish both of you all the best *hugs*
@shanaber The difference between walking vs running distance might be due to different smoothing algorithms? I know Strava does some smoothing to compensate for "jumpy" GPS tracks and remove outlier GPS points. If you have lots of sharp curves maybe it makes a difference?
Or it depends on the device you're using to track the activity? I know that my watch has a different sampling frequency for cycling and hiking, for example - less frequent measurements for hiking to save battery, which is enough since you're moving slower. Although then I would imagine the walking distance to be longer, because there should be more datapoints at corners and therefor more exact measurements... Weird
@mari_moulin Great job on hitting your goal, well done!
@katharmonic Great running! Both the monthly distance record and the half marathon.

146.5 km running distance for me. Smashed my 125 km goal Tomorrow is a rest day, so this is it for May. I also managed to hit my cycling distance goal of 100km (I know, serious cyclists do this in a single ride , but still better than my 0km in April), so I'm happy with my training log this month.

@katharmonic Great job on your HM run and the excellent total for the month! You rock!
@janejellyroll I was thinking about you this morning. I'm glad you aren't in the midst of the unrest.
@_nikkiwolf_ Yeah for smashing your goal! Great month!1 -
@rheddmobile - so glad you found a pretty place to run to get you out of your funk. Hope your knee is feeling better.
@katharmonic - what a fun way to run a 'virtual' HM! Getting swag at the end makes it even better! Also congrats for your biggest running month ever!
@janejellyroll - stay safe!
@_nikkiwolf_ - I think you could track your running miles separately in Strava in a similar manner as your bike part, assuming you don't already use it to track miles on your shoes. You could set up a 'shoe' for the month and select it for each run and then it would have the total for your running miles each month. Great job hitting and exceeding your goals for the month!
@mari_moulin - Yay!! Congratulations!
Last run of the month for me and it ended up being mostly walking with bits of running thrown in. I just wasn't feeling up to running today so I just enjoyed being out along the river with Hobbes and watching all the birds. Tomorrow is cross training for me with the stretch and roll class and my own strength training workout. See everyone over on the June thread!

But after posting my comment above, it suddenly dawned on me that there might be another option: the Tomtom website. My GPS watch is a Tomtom and syncs to their Mysports in addition to Strava. I didn't find that site very useful, but since I couldn't figure out how to deactivate the sync, I just ignore it. I checked just now, and it turns out they have a "progress" tab where you can see stats filtered by day/month/week/year and activity type.
It's not 100% accurate for me, since I sometimes forget my watch and use Strava for tracking. But I will try harder to remember charging and using the watch for all runs, now that I know it saves me 5$/month
