Anyway, I'll just say that I got an email about the International Space Station virtual run to celebrate 20 years of the ISS and return to manned space flight from the USA. The medal is a cool 3-D replica of the ISS and the shirt, which I really don't need, has a depiction of the solar system and says "Give me some space."
If you broke a rule, you would have gotten a PM from the mods about it. Trust me, I know As far as I know you can link races. Post the link again. It was probably just a hiccup.1 -
Way behind in thread, sorry y'all... I did read all the posts but I am three or four pages behind so, I just go with GO TEAM! YAY! Y'ALL ARE SUPER STARS!

Hey all!
I'll go back and read but just wanted to post that I saw the physiotherapist again today and officially have the green light to start training again. I'm going to avoid hills, or just walk up any larg hills for the next month but am free to run on the flat. I showed him the Hal Higdon plan I was going to follow and he said perfect, go for it.
@eleanorhawkins I got this yesterday haha. I'm doing 2 weeks of just base running till the plan starts, was only supposed to do 2.5k, I did 5. he wasn't happy with me 😂

It's tipping with rain here. After about six months of fabulous weather (we're in drought. In winter!) the wet has finally come. I'm supposed to run today. I'm not mentally prepared. I'm procrastinating. Someone give me a poke.7

Good for you! Sometimes that is what exactly what we need.3 -
Hahaha @Avidkeo ! Getting an F for over achievement just seems wrong.
@PastorVincent That's what I thought would happen. I tried it twice though and it would disappear. I'll try here again and see what happens.

It's going to be a hot one out there today, but I got the run in early enough that it wasn't too terrible yet. Hill repeats today, but mercifully only 5 miles of it instead of the 6 we did last week. My trainer must have some ulterior motive for that, but I was more than happy to cut it back.3 -

@Avidkeo you're making me think I should get the Hal app.
Pain report: Left IT band twinging last night when I went to bed. Still a little tight this morning when I woke up, took two ibuprofen and I feel fine now. I have been working to lay off the ibu because it does nothing to help me determine where I'm at with the healing. Still planning on a short run this weekend before the binge starts next Saturday. I've just gotten in about two miles a day of walking, but that's good for the joints and keeps me moving, so that's okay.
I ordered some more socks and two pairs of running shorts yesterday. I got the bombas (which i LOVE) socks (which brings me to six pairs) and two pairs of Nike Pro 3-inch shorts (brings me to six or seven shorts now). They don't appear to ride up too bad and if they do, I'll return them. I still need to exchange the sports bra I bought last week (maybe tonight?) and if the shorts don't work out, I'll return those too. I am trying to plan efficiently for the Binge so I don't get caught off guard, not having what I need. I felt that I should get more shorts because if I am running so many miles then I probably am not going to want to do laundry on a few of the days. I will plan which days I do laundry, lol. I know, I'm being weird and OCD and it's probably anxiety, but I definitely feel the need to be as prepared as possible. Need to make sure I have enough fuel. I think I'm probably okay in that regard.
In other news... washington county passed an ordinance where masks are REQUIRED for patrons. And the race / police brutality war rages on. We are living in strange and dark times. I refuse to be brought down. We have to do what we CAN do -each of us. I suppose that's what I'm doing. I hope you all find the courage and the bravery to do what you are able as well.

I had a surprisingly great run this morning. When I got up my weather app said it was 77°F and there were 13 mph winds. But my ankle was not hurting and I figured I could tough it out for my planned 5 miles and even cut back to 4 if necessary. So I started out (a little after 6 which is later than I like to leave the house). It was already light enough that instead of going down the main road on the sidewalk, I headed on the back road to the park. It was a little tough starting out as I was running straight into the wind, but once I turned and started heading west it wasn't too bad and the wind was just enough to keep it from being too hot. I really started to feel good and was getting in the zone. I saw a skunk on the way to the park, but he didn't see me. I think he was just trying to get back home after his night of activity. I was enjoying the run a lot. I was running on familiar roads, but also running the opposite of what I generally run and changing my route up just enough to feel kind of new. I turned around and started heading back in plenty of time to get 5 miles, but as I was running I just didn't want to stop so I ended up adding on some when I came back through the park and also when I got to the turnoff for home I kept going a couple of blocks before turning and heading home. I could have gone further, but by that time I really needed to get home if I wanted to have time for some yoga before getting ready for work. I was so glad that my ankle didn't bother me at all. I really think the issue the other day was the shoes I wore to work and not anything to do with running. So I ended up with 6 miles this morning and even though it was pretty warm and I was dripping with sweat, it felt good and I was really happy when I got home.
@Avidkeo Hooray for being cleared to run! I'm not so sure about Hal. He sounds mean. I usually use his HM training plans, but I modify them because they start out with less mileage than I typically run. I have briefly thought about getting Hal +, but I probably won't after hearing about it from you and @eleanorhawkins . I think I would find it de-motivating to be scolded like that and given an F.
@skippygirlsmom I love those shoes!
Speaking of shoes, what type of shoes do you ladies wear when you are not running. I work in an office but it's pretty casual. Today I'm wearing some Sketchers Go Walk and they are pretty comfortable, but I also think they are kind of ugly.

@Avidkeo I have been trying out the "Run with Hal" app for a few weeks now, and he is *never* happy with me!
I constantly find myself arguing with him, but the app doesn't listen
Like a few weeks ago I was supposed to do two 6.5km base runs, but on one day I only had time for 4.7km, so I did 8km the other day. For the long one I got "Dang, you went beyond prescribed volume today. Try to trust the program! For that, you get a lower rating, but you can get back on track by reducing your volume.", for the short "You came up short on your workout goal today. I'll have to ding you a few points"... I'm always tempted to "adjust" the logging of my run distances by taking a little away on one day and adding it on another, to escape his stern words.
I'm not sure how much the app is actually adjusting to my training log. The paces maybe, but the distance not at all. I fell a bit behind on my long runs - 4 weeks ago I did 15km as planned, but 3/2 weeks ago only 10.6km(knee hurt a bit)/13.8km(work...). According to the app, I should have done 16km and 18.3km. And it still wants me do do 19.5km as the next long run. I guess he wants me to get in shape for whatever fictional race I entered, but I expected the "Personalized Plan based on the completion of your current workouts" to adjust somehow to the distance that I'm actually running, in weeks where I don't follow the plan.6 -
After two weeks of work insanity, I'm hopelessly behind on this thread. But thanks to a cancelled meeting, I had an extra long lunch break and finally got my long run done
It was a stupid time for a run - sunny and 25°C/77°F, but the weather forecast has a severe weather warning for thunderstorms, hail and heavy rain tonight; compared to that "too sunny" sounded slightly better.
I took half a litre of water with me, but it wasn't enough for the 15km I ran. Where I lived for the past four years, there were a few public water fountains, if you knew where to look for them. But in my new-since-winter area I haven't found a single one so far. I knew I would pass a gas station after 8 or 9km, and was planning to buy some water to refill my bottle there - but I didn't stupidly forgot to bring a face mask, and entering shops without one is forbidden where I live...
But I got really lucky: a bit later I heard ice cream truck bells ringing! No mask required to buy from food trucks, so I turned around and ran back to where the noise came from.
They didn't sell any water, so I got a strawberry ice cream. First time I tried this, but it turns out you can actually run with an ice cream cone in hand

Worst that can happen is that you end up wearing sticky ice cream for the rest of the run. ....actually, that sounds pretty bad. I'm glad that didn't happen to me

Getting rid of sticky is exactly why I stopped using Gu.0 -
Drove out to WC Johnson yesterday morning for the first time since lockdown to run trails. I hadn’t been doing it primarily because of the bathroom situation, but after running for a few weeks with no potty breaks I finally felt I could do it, and it worked okay. The drive is about an hour, plus warmup, the run, plus cool down walk.
I’m sad now though. It was beautiful and reminded me of why I love running in the first place. And I can’t do it again. Getting out there as early as is legal, we passed 15 people, of whom 13 insisted on passing within 3 feet. Far more people than ever ran there before Covid. Only two people made any effort to distance, a cyclist who thanked us as he went by, and an old man who was swinging way out off trail whenever anyone passed. No masks. There were two women who went by chatting loudly and taking up the whole trail, swinging their arms and looking at us like we had no right to expect them to move aside. I think if we hadn’t gotten over they would have literally stomped over us. There isn’t room to get off the trail in many places, so unless both people passing cooperate, you are going to nearly touch.
Since we had over 300 new cases in our county yesterday, I cannot risk my health with these fools. If I should catch it, the current American numbers are 50% hospitalization rate and 20% death rate for someone with diabetes.
Memphis has passed an ordinance requiring masks in public places and businesses, but they are still optional outdoors. Although you have to carry one whether you wear it or not. I don’t really want to run in a mask, but I would be willing if others were required to. As is, no one will wear one, and they don’t really protect the wearer as much as they protect other people from the wearer, so there’s not much point.
So, back to running roads and our little secret park nearby.
In somewhat brighter news, I signed up for a virtual race on the Solstice. It has a medal and a virtual bib!9 -

Yeah, I might end up wearing some of it. But I still think it would be awesome! I'm going to shower when I get home any way.1 -
@rheddmobile Sorry you still aren't really able to run at your park. I don't know why people are always so inconsiderate.1
-
@quilteryoyo You just made my husband’s day! We are now signed up for the space station race. Normally he thinks virtual races just to get cool medals are kinda lame, but we are agreed that given the current circumstances, anything counts!3
-
The Hal app works great for me because apparently I perform best when told exactly what to do by a stern master lol. I was always the teacher's pet. Funnily enough he has yet to scold me for going way faster than he told me to, which is strange. Guess all he cares about is distance...5
