Get to do: invest 36 mins decluttering and cleaning Office, 26 mins mins cleaning Master Bath; mat work, BB&B, practice new dances (Here I Go Again/Mama Mia, Real Deal, Get it Right, Quarter after one, Half Past Tipsy, Senorita, Dance Monkey; next week final? Joyful June 5: Smile and be friendly while social distancing. Lots of times in T’ai Chi and shopping. Only flunked it at the bank, not the teller’s fault, stupid corporate policy and my stubbornness.
Not my most productive day, too much shopping, too chilly and windy to dance in the park or play in the dirt, too lazy to clean or declutter.
Welcome @mesnowprincess! Carol, would you let us know what to call you and generally where you are? To help us keep you straight from Carol in GA.
Heather your son certainly has done well, VERY well. Bravo!
Pip soft wash, thanks! We live as close to the California border you can get and still be on the Oregon coast. Maybe he and his crew would like a working vacation? the scooter and the sidecar. Just the right color too!
Allie safe travels!
Lisa, ah, the challenges of managing your unmanageable employee. What Carol in GA said about the exercises. Why oh why do we stop doing them when they work???
Janetr prayers for baby Jaxx and ((hugs)) for you.
Rebecca great grandfolk stories and pics.
SueBarry1 congrats on that very good news!
((Kim))

Just skimmin’ too lazy again and sleepy for more.
Lighter, lovelies!

Morning, afternoon and evening, all,
For those just waking up, I hope it's a lovely Saturday, and for those where the day is in full swing, that it has been and will be, and for those with it nearly past, that it was a wonderful, peaceful day.
Kim, my dear friend, I'm glad you're venting. Of course it's hard for you right now! So many of your outlets for love of and from others have been shut down, and when you throw the rest of what's happening in the world in the mix, it feels really hard sometimes to just keep motoring. Every day that you get out of bed and take one step forward is a triumph, my dear, and you need to be kind to yourself.
You are not alone at all in your feelings, by the way. My personal belief is that the underlying reason for the sheer number of people protesting is that people like you (people who need people, to quote Barbra Streisand) have been shut away from the world for too long. While these people absolutely do feel strongly that George Floyd's murder was a travesty, there have been other law enforcement murders, and even murders on tape, like Ahmaud Arbery. But the same people who felt strongly about those issues are now quite desperate to simply see another person face to face, to feel another human beside them. I could be wrong of course! But the silver lining of the pandemic may be the unforeseen consequence that it will be the force that underlies one of the greatest cultural shifts in the history of humanity - away from racism, and toward a more just society--just because so many people are lonely. Maybe I'm an optimist--but wouldn't it be wonderful if such a positive shift for the future of the human race was the end result of this awfulness? In contrast, if everyone felt like me and Machka and the other introverts, there would be no change, as we would all be happily ensconced at home.
Human xenophobia (fear of the stranger) may have served as an evolutionary advantage in the hunter/gatherer stages, but it has caused more wars, destruction, rage and pain than any other trait. The hate borne by every group or individual for other groups, or tribes or peoples, whether because of the differences of their color, or their religion, or their geography has been generated by fear. Every empire that took over country after country feared its own diminishment if it stopped taking over more and more territory. We hate because we're afraid.
Well, that got all philosophical, didn't it!
In my happy place, the dishwasher is running, the washer is swooshing--clothes will go on the line when the sun comes up... I got the acreage near the house mowed yesterday and only fell off the mower once (long story, I'm fine). Today is play time - probably go pick up a few boards and get my porch glider disassembled, get the frame painted and get it reassembled with new slats. I'll take pictures.
Love y'all,
Will probably drop in again later,

Joyful June Calendar ...
https://www.actionforhappiness.org/joyful-june
1. Look for what's good ... lots of things!!
Cycling outside
Rhody
Jam
Things I've liked since being at home from the end of March ...
Being home all day with my husband. I've got a better understanding of how his day goes.
Spending time with Rhody, getting to know him and getting him settled into our home.
Being able to go outside to walk, run or cycle in daylight, despite the fact that the daylight hours are getting shorter.
Having the energy to exercise regularly.
Seeing more people outside exercising.
Being able to sleep at least half an hour more each night than I was.
Being able to go for a nap in the afternoon occasionally.
Not having to spend 9-10 hours a week commuting!!!
Spending my days with a 180° view of the bay and trees and outside instead of a wall.
Being in an environment that rarely gives me sore, itchy eyes, sore throat, cough, and the sneezes.
Being able to clean this and that.
Wearing casual, comfy clothes.
Not having as much stuff vying for my time.
More time to work on my two courses at uni.
Working remotely at my own pace ... which might lead to continued remote work ... maybe ... hopefully!
Being able to attend church online.
Feeling much more relaxed and less stressed!
Just to name a few.
2. Reframe a worry and try to find a positive ...
A worry?
Well, one of my many worries is that I won't pass my courses. So I'll use that as motivation to start studying for my final exam tonight!!
3. Think of 3 Things to be Grateful For
The COVID-19 shutdown.
Working from home.
Rhody.
I could go on and on!
4. Show Appreciation to Those Who are Helping Others
I think of people like Rori, Tracey, Allie and the others here who are caregivers and especially caregivers to those with brain-related issues.
Also, co-incidentally, June 2 was Thank A First Responder day. My husband and I have been fortunate to be able to thank those who have helped him. Wonderful people!
5. Smile and be friendly, even when you're social distancing.
That's something I've really enjoyed about all this. When I'm out walking, running or cycling, we exchange waves, nods and smiles with other people. It's nice. We can still be friendly, even with a road in between us.
6. Notice the upsides during the lockdown, however small.
There are so many upsides!! See the list I made for June 1 above!

On the topic of "upsides during lockdown" ...
Working from Home
One of the best aspects of this shutdown is that we are working from home. I've talked to a couple of my coworkers and it's something we love and would like to continue. The interesting thing is that we've been told it would be near impossible to arrange, and yet we were working from home within a week.
I've read a few newspaper articles recently which have indicated that there could be a couple outcomes from all of this.
1) That we will continue to work from home because we all know now that it can be done and we love it! Plus since social distancing will have to continue for a long time to come, it's better to have people at home rather than all together in an office.
2) That we may go to 4-day work weeks. We're finding we like the more relaxed pace and more time to do what we want. Plus the economies of New Zealand and Australia depend quite a bit on tourism, so one of the suggestions is that if we go to a 4-day work week, it will free people up to travel more and take in tourist activities ... thus boosting the economy.
So we'll see. But I like both ideas and hope they are both adopted.
Sat Jun 6th, 2020 -- Gardening Exercise Day
https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/gardening-exercise-day/
"Research indicates that Gardening Exercise Day originates with gardening clubs and groups. It is a day when people are encouraged to get off the couch, head out into the garden, and tend their patches. Not only does this help ensure that the garden looks good, but it also offers a healthy means of getting some exercise, while enjoying the benefits that fresh air can bring."
In related news ... some may remember that I made apple freezer jam last weekend. This weekend we tried it on waffles with whipped cream. It was good!! Sweet with just a bit of tartness. Since it was so easy to make, I think we'll do it again.
Sat Jun 6th, 2020 -- Bicycle Ride Outside
My husband and I got out for a bicycle ride. It was quite chilly out there, but very little wind which was good. It was only 11.45 km ... I'd like to ride longer, but today that was good enough. My feet were really feeling the cold by the end of the ride.

It's actually a good thing that I like being alone and that I don't like socialising. One of the things that my husband's brain injury took from me is having someone to talk to. Yes, we can still hold brief conversations, but it is very superficial on my side, carefully avoiding his trigger topics. As a result of the injury, he has ended up with something called negative attribution bias. Most of his stories end up in death, disaster or destruction. His stories about people he remembers end with ... "but he's dead now" or "oh also, his daughter died in a tragic car accident" or whatever. It is a rare story where the person and person's family lived. And do not get him started on any sort of news ... his thought process can be just horrifying! And then, of course, he gets upset.
I do miss being able to sit down over dinner and tell him about my day, or being able to bounce ideas off him about what I'm learning in university or my projects in both work and university, but he's not able to handle that level of conversation and if he tries, it just heads right into the negative attribution bias thing.
So, if I talk about what I'm doing in uni now and then, it's just me trying to strike up that sort of conversation.
However, I've spent several years of my life living alone and doing my own thing ... so it's probably helpful that I can do that and can feel comfortable doing that.
I talk to myself a lot.

Michele: One day streak??? Noway!!! They must have made a massive mistake.
(((Kim))) No one seems to be chatting in the checkout lines in our stores, either. Chatting 5 feet apart is not a social activity—too much distancing for quiet chatting & no privacy. :noway:
Pip: I’m happy that your fabulous scooter will stay in the family.
Heather: Your TV personality whose husband has Covid 19 and is hospitalized is in a sad situation. My heart goes out to those who are suffering or have a family member who is suffering.
Machka: I talk to myself, too. Unfortunately, if DH is within hearing distance he is highly irritated by my personal monologs and mutterings. :ohwell:
We have noticed that our dog has a funny looking spot on his backside. I’ve called the vet’s office and they say to drive there early in the morning and let the vet look at it. I hope to do that today. All I need to hear is this needs attention or this is not something to worry about. It is easy to guess what I’m hoping to hear.

Pip The scooter is just too cute. Just like two little ones holding hands! SO glad it will remain in the family.
Rebecca I loved the story about your grandparents. As far as living together rather than being married so they would not lose their social security benefits, we had a similar situation in our family. A great aunt had a gentleman friend who would visit for long periods of time. They were not fooling anyone, least of all the grandchildren, half of whom were living with "roommates".

Katla it’s one scooter. it just has the sidecar connected to it. It is called a genuine Stella. A remake of 1977 Vespa. If u had Vespa parts, they would would on fixing that one. Kirby go me the scooter one year for Christmas and and another year the sidecar for Valentine’s Day4
-
Pip: Thanks for the extra information. I suspect your Stella is a collector’s dream machine. I’m glad I got to see it. 🌺2

Had trouble logging into this thread last 2 days. Anyone else?
Still under the weather. Maybe I should call doc Monday if still bad. No fever but sleeping way too much and headaches.
RV Rita3 -
Husband bought me a gift. Oh Lord give me strength! I will have ONE of these puppies AFTER I eat my meal. I am thunk by a huge *kitten* salad. Maybe an egg salad. Maybe an egg in my protein Kodiak flapjack mix. Hmm, its a conundrum!😁

Rebecca,
I’m sure your DH was trying to be sweet and give you a treat. Mine encouraged me to get a container of Ben & Jerry’s. It was delicious and I will be careful not to make it a habit. :noway:3 -
Rebecca - That is not a sweet thought by your husband. They are poison. Throw them in the bin. Just look at the list of ingredients. No one should be eating that junk. You are worth more than that.
Heather UK xxxxxxxx1 -
The problem with eating someone else's idea of a treat is they will buy it again. You really want to discourage this. Otherwise your diet will end up being lettuce and donuts, and you will get frustrated and sick. At least that's the path I end up on. YMMV.

A running friend said once past 40 you have to stop when feeling pain whereas before 40 you can kind of jog through it. I guess it could be opening up a Pandora's box to find new cousins and half-siblings. it might be more emotional than he can manage.
I think he just considers them strangers and therefore not more special than any other person he doesn't know.
For me, well my injuries are really the least of my worries now. My sister (she's 53) had a stroke and will not be going home for the foreseeable future. It's very emotional.
I am done with 2020.

Food is an excellent treat for pets when you are working on training. I try very hard to avoid accepting food as a treat for myself, and then I go out and buy Ben & Jerry's. :ohwell:I am definitely a work in progress.4
