Gripe about hives and allergies after surgery... :s

    Machka, Cheri, Lisa
... all of you with hives and allergies due to surgical glue/tape/steri strips. My sympathies! I owe Karen in VA here a lunch after my experience last year with not only allergy to the solution they swabbed my belly with, but the tape they used to secure the drape for my hernia surgery. The hives and itching were horrible. Karen suggested using 2 anti-histamines together, I think I used Benadryl and Zantac which was still on the market, plus slathering on eczema cream which gave me some relief.

I never thought about going to my family doctor about it - come to find out, she could have tried giving me a Kenolog shot. When I had gallbladder surgery 8 years ago, I had allergies and hives due to surgical glue used at the incisions sites. Last year's was many, many times worse. And I had warned them during the pre-op consult that I had allergies. The little hernia above my belly button has been replaced with equally painful scar tissue.

On that cheery note, enough griping and I'm glad it's over. :)

I remember that you went through that.

I gave my husband two different allergy medications too and when I told the Dr in Emergency, he said that was good. He'll have a scar from the great bleeding blister he's got now, but at least it isn't infected.

Reward: inventory seeds, plan fall cool season garden, order replenishments.
Jumpback July 2 looking forward to: stroll with Denise, another beach walk with Joe, fireworks boat trip?, drive to Agness, more energy/less pain in walking and dancing.

So I made the effort to be ready to go to the beach by 5:45, but Joe was pooped from yesterday’s yard work and preferred to rest. Was a little disappointed. Then, Aha! I can spend time with each dog separately. Started with Shadow, walked her down to the power pole, click/treating every time she walked quietly in heel position (no leash). Jumping, nosing pocket=no treat. She caught on quickly and I got the bonus of my daily up hill. Returned Shadow to the house and got Tumble out. Tumble is half the height of Shadow and not so easy to put treats directly into mouth so tried in the garage where I could drop treats on the floor. Was hard for her to find the treats, and she kept looking to me for them. I WANT her to look to me so I changed and bent over to treat her in the mouth. Clicked/treated every time in good heel position. Even stepped out to the graveled parking area where she wandered away, but when she returned to heel, BONANZA! Thank you so much Michele for the reminder. This was fun.

Then I got great news, the fire district’s COVID-19 expense reimbursement application was approved for $3800. Lisa I cannot thank you enough. Without hearing about your grant work it would never have occurred to me to try, and now we’re 2 for 2, total $8800! Not a lot by most organization’s standards but to our small rural fire protection district, it makes a HUGE difference.

Katla yes the ill effects of the unwise breakfast have passed. ;) I’m hoping that at my follow up appointment Dr. will use a manual cuff and the reading will come back down to the 130s or 120s. Will do my part by minimizing salt and increasing activity ‘til then. Thanks for the “boys Tevas” hint, reminds me of the boy’s hiking boots I bought long ago and half the price of women’s and lasted for years. Here’s Joe’s Melitta filter, duct tape reinforced mask. :smirk:
Machka so glad no infection, hope the ER wasn’t too upsetting for your DH and they were able to give him immediate relief.
Lisa see my current walking shoe on that page, they’ve lasted a long time and been truly waterproof. Thanks, will check out the other styles. for your  episode, 6 hours is way too long of a punishment. What you said to Machka about serving sizes per container. A real eye opener when I first started reading food labels. Gorgeous glads. Thought your “hollyhock” was a Rose of Sharon tree https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/59/Rose_of_sharon.JPG/1200px-Rose_of_sharon.JPG but bow to Heather and Kim.
Heather what Karen in VA said about your writing and your mood. Glad you’ll get out for a run and RL meeting with the grands. One step, one breath at a time.
Karen in VA Joe has, not a cuff, but a wrist wrap thingy. I’ll try that and log. Thanks for the suggestion!
Michele in NC I don’t know for sure, but strongly suspect a lifetime of poor choices is leading me to true high blood pressure. Is it possible something you ate made you so very sick so very quickly?
Carla in MN share a pic of the grands in the swinging saucer, ok?
Rita whew for the A/C and Bravissima for all your 20 for 20 accomplishments.
Tina that sounds perfectly awful! Hope you can find a way to sleep, body needs it to heal. Considered an MD, PT or Chiro?
Rebecca so very sorry your son had to go in when sick. Wish the Navy would have said “Stay home! We can email you the form to sign.”
Amber think its ridiculous that the Navy can't figure out how to get food to your daughter in quarantine.
Cheri I’ve always asked for paper tape as the regular adhesive gives me red rash with tiny blisters. Sorry your healthcare workers acted like you were crazy. They should know better, or at least listen then research before dismissing your observations.
Debbie in Napa and Lisa and Cheri scars for steristrips? So very very sorry to hear it.
Sue in WA thanks for the bear paw suggestion, I see they have some “youth” sizes… hmm.
Ginny what is the blood plasma treatment that saved your co-worker from a ventilator?
Margaret congratulations! Drew Barry is one lucky pup!

Welcome @auntachelle Michelle in MN, @dawkson2017 from Melbourne!

    Lighter, lovelies!

Its interesting how the Navy works. Things in the air Navy are tagged etc so when they get worked on, parts replaced, a signature of authority is attached to that (maybe not physically but in paperwork). That way, there was someone that validated that the proper work was done. In my son's last squadron he got in trouble because he signed off on a job, but took the word of someone else that it was inspected. So there's a rhyme for every reason.
He's slept all day yesterday, drinking water, taking Tylenol, munching on crackers. He felt better today when I brought him more water, no temp.👍

Tina in CA, if you have a pool available some swimming is great cardio. I have terrible sitting bone pain since I lost all my weight, and have had unpleasant tailbone sensitivity since I broke mine YEARS ago in 1977.

Wow, Allie! I spent most of my Februarys and Marches in Ft. Myers FL, and we almost always went to Sanibel for a shelling day and visit to the museum that was there then. There wasn’t a bridge from the mainland until I was about 11, so it was a short ferry trip from Punta Rassa where we always had brunch first. Good luck making that choice!

Adhesive allergies! The only kind of tape we’re sure I’m not allergic to, oddly, is the clear stuff they put over IV sites to stabilize and protect them. Silk, paper - nope! Steri strips are ok so far, but that may be changing. I was getting some redness around them when they finally peeled off. My allergy is serious too. Blisters, fine rash, hives - I get them all. I commiserate with all of you.

Cheri, Ow! In addition to all the discomforts of your treatment you’d think there would be a better option for bandaging.

Thanks, Katla. Its helpful to know I’m not the only one who struggles with this. Part of it for me is, I think, that I’d only had good advice to give after I sobered up and sought a lot of counseling. My grandkids, who are mostly 20-somethings now, actually ask my advice fairly often, though they can be victims of my barrages too. Another part of the problem is that often when someone is talking about a problem I don’t always know how to respond. I need to practice saying “Oh? What do you think you’ll do?” And things of that ilk.

Tracey in Edmonton I hope you have a pleasant and restful getaway and that the traffic getting there is minimal. I miss trips to Canada a lot since our border is closed, but I see the logic in the closure daily when I look at the scoffers who aren’t wearing masks or distancing in all sorts of situations. Fortunately many places of business are getting much tougher enforcing compliance.

Heather in UK, I read your posts with interest because I relate to so much of what you have to say. One of the things I have missed greatly during this lockdown is live theater. I’m a season ticket holder to the Village Theater here in Issaquah. It’s a small theater with a huge reputation. Several award-winning productions on Broadway have originated here, notably “The Million Dollar Quartet”. It’s something I’ve enjoyed for the past twelve years. I also miss face-to-face time with my grandchildren. I don’t even see Nicolas, who lives here on the same property, all that often. However, my daughter posts many “Lives” about their doings, so I feel a bit included.

Pip, i remember my folks showing our house when I was 12. It was very hard, because we might have to leave in a hurry and we couldn’t leave ANYTHING messy. I was 12 and my brother was 8. I suspect my mom needed a lot more rest than she got in those days.

I am getting ready to go to my tax preparation job shortly. That will be over soon. Most of what we are doing is NOT face-to-face, but drop-off or Approve On Line, where they upload stuff for me to enter and I upload their finished return for approval and signatures, and then submit it electronically. It’s not the same at all. I miss having people in my day-to-day life.

I hope each of you are getting at least some of your needs met, and if not, have ways to ask for what you need. I miss being around on here more often.

Still a bit tearful, tired and low. I'm having difficulty figuring it out.
Could be the stuff I'm writing about. I'm certainly exhausted and drained after my morning writing session.
Could be the 4 year old Tracey posted. That definitely triggered a response in me.
Could be tomorrow would have been my Golden Wedding with my ex. It's not in the front of my mind, but, once I identified it, it made sense.
Could be just ennuie with the restrictions. We haven't seen the grandchildren this week. I have hardly been out at all. My life has shrunk.
Could be I'm beginning to get my envy and jealousy back. Every time I hear someone interviewed on the radio about their book I am consumed with envy. The lockdown was an envy holiday for me.
    Could be anything at all............

DH would like to be helpful, but he really isn't. He still hates me mentioning anything to do with mfp. I rarely do.He still thinks you are all charlatans and internet trolls.
He is not impressed when I mention my Golden Wedding.
He does not understand at all about my teenage angst. He is just jealous that I had a teenage life at all. He did not. He is four years older than me and the 60s had not happened.

I know it will pass. I know it will.

Had delicious cod baked with lemon and tomatoes, with spinach. Nice Friday night bottle of Sauvignon.

Vera later. A repeat, but, heh!

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Heather- I totally understand the anniversary emotions- just went through that here on the 25th. That would have been my former(don't call him or his family ex- to me that is negative and there is nothing negative about him or his family)-would have been 37yrs for us. I will be meeting his new wife next month- that will be a bit rough, as there are still strong feelings on both sides. He regrets daily that he left. Can't go back though.

Daughter been quarantined since June 18th (Day her crew had a positive guy hospitalized they were told go to your rooms don’t come out!)

    Sore throat worse than strep
Worst headaches in her whole life
Tired from it all because it came in hour waves 🌊 at her.

Today she finally feels great again. Contagious?? Unknown

So far no one has said they can come out of quarantine so will see when that will be.

Hoping this is a sign it’s over that it won’t hit again in waves.
She still can’t leave for food so pizza place ordering.
