In my memoir I've been writing about a 'sliding door' moment when I was 15, when I answered a request sent to our school to go to the boy's school youth wing to take part in a play. That small decision opened a door into a different life.
I found myself wondering if any of you have had such a moment. Not the big decisions that we agonise over, like getting married, taking a job etc, but the tiny acts of chance, unnoticed at the time, that somehow led us down a different path.
Do tell us. Let's keep it positive.
I'm going to have a day off writing today and do some telephoning of friends I haven't spoken to for a couple of months.

Turns out if you do 8 minutes of a 30 minute exercise video you feel like a truck has run over you the next day........ word to the wise
So just catching up on some of the chat to see who is doing what. And I am possibly looking to move...... nothing like adding stress to life when you want to lose weight...

yesterday was the inspection, Kirby said we should find out today how that's gonna go and what kind of $$$ we are going to have to dish out to fix whatever is wrong.
we got approved to rent the apartment, I had no doubt. they are going to send us a welcome packet. we are renting from the 13th on cuz that was when it's available but they are only going to charge us rent from the 24th onward so that is nice. saving us a couple of bucks6 -

Heather - yes, there was one 'sliding door' (sliding window, anyway) moment for me. I was sitting in a McDonalds drive-thru, hoping the girl behind the window thought I was taking home one of those two breakfast sandwiches for someone else, when in reality, I meant to eat them both (combined, nearly 900 calories).
One of them I planned to eat before I got home, which was only ten blocks away, so I could walk in with just the one sandwich I had ostensibly gone for... In that short drive home, as I bolted the one sandwich, I reassured myself that you never see really fat old people, so it must get easier to lose weight as you get older--telling myself once more that I'd lose the weight "someday." I'd been to the doctor the day before, and was at my highest weight - 303 pounds.
And then a single, subversive little thought crossed my mind:
You don't see very fat old people because very fat people don't get old. They die.
That began every change that brought me here. Six months later I had a gastric bypass, lost 166 pounds, moved from Texas to Illinois for my husband's job, watched my 28-year marriage explode in slow motion after I became a flight attendant. Headed for Texas, met Corey, fell in love and married him a year later, became a mom to a 15 and 17-year-old son and daughter... and became the person I was meant to be all along.
One thought. One teeny-tiny moment that I've never forgotten.
Just before my surgery, at 300+ pounds, and not quite two years later. I was still unhappy, and you can see that in my eyes, but I had lost an entire person that I was carrying around (both psychologically and physically):
This was taken in December, the day after Corey asked me to marry him--and used as our engagement photo for the newspaper. He taught me how to be happy again.

Pip Wonderful. Hopefully the inspection will not turn up any major problems. I'll be sending thoughts to the inspector like, "This is an older home but it has been well-maintained. I just can't find any major problems with any of the systems!" or "Who are these people? Nobody keeps an older home with older systems maintained this well!" or "I wonder if I can outbid the buyers. I want this home for myself!" LOL!!! All day.
Evelyn Such cute grandchildren. Your needlepoint is lovely.
Sara Ouch! 8 minutes of a 30 minute workout is actually quite admirable if you are out of shape. Back in the day, I lasted only 1 minute on the Stairmaster on my first attempt. I was mortified. Before long, you will be able to do 10 minutes, then 12 minutes…I predict that you will be up to the full workout within 6 weeks if you hang in there. Before September, for sure. And your muscles will stop being so sore, as you know. You can do this!
Rori Please check in, even if only to leave a heart or a smiley face.
Heather One of the small choices I made that changed the course of my life was the decision to learn Carolina shag dancing.

I'm going to work on irrigation for the hanging and potted plants today. It's not finished yet, and I had to rescue some droopy New Guinea Impatiens on the front steps last night as a result. When I told my spouse what I was going to do today (my telemedicine job and the irrigation system), she attempted to hijack my day as usual with disability paperwork and tax stuff. LOL!!! I didn't let her. (I do what she wants me to do A LOT!!!) Not today. I 'Just Said No'. And she was fine with it! I need to do that more often. It frustrates me not to be able to get to my projects and plan my own agenda.

Much of my life has been like that ... just drifting wherever the wind blows. I've occasionally thought that I would like to travel just like that ... literally go in the direction the wind pushes me.
But I suppose ...
Cycling one evening, when two girls on bicycles caught up to me and rode with me a bit. We chatted and they mentioned a Century (100 mile) event coming up in August. I went to the event ... my first cycling event. There I met other cyclists and chatted to the girls again who mentioned racing, and the next year I started racing!
Cutting out and filing a small article from a newspaper on something called "randonneuring", then digging it out several years later, when I got tired of racing, calling the number on the article, and entering the world of ultradistance cycling.
Asking a question about a long distance cycling event on a cycling forum ... which lead to me travelling to Europe and Australia and all over North America, marrying the person who responded to me, and moving to Australia.
If one of those tiny acts of chance hadn't happened, I might not be in Australia married to my husband now.

at least, 3 major things are not an issue, we don't have chipped paint, we have vynal siding. we have a newer roof, our stairs are up to code. when we moved in they weren't. i prefer older houses and the quirks that come with it. we will see how it goes.2 -
Good morning ladies!
Machka - good luck on your upcoming nasal surgery.
Katla - Last year our vet recommended a CBD chew called "CannaChews" made by GrowPharm. At the time, our young dog pulled a muscle and was limping, so it helped her recovery. This spring, our old gal (12) started obsessive licking, so I started giving her 1/2 treat each morning with her breakfast and the licking is a fraction of what it was, plus she is more active due to the anti-inflammatory effect. Each treat has 15mg of CBD, so it's easy to measure slicing one in half. I think I paid around $50 for a container of 60 treats which lasts around 4 months, and I order them online from the company above. Shipping takes a week or two. Just an idea.
We are having wierd tomato weather - a slow start getting fruit set on the vines. The past couple years it's been too hot, this year too chilly maybe? The only plants doing really well are a couple dwarf plants - Little Sicily - that I planted in big flower pots- that were prolific last year and grew lots of medium size sauce type fruit.
I ran across an article about the Dwarf Tomato Project - so I've started a seed shopping list for similar small, compact tomatoes that will produce a variety of tomatoes of various sizes and colors. I have a couple on the list that are "micro" cherry types that can be grown in our garden window - I hope. It's too late in the season to start them this summer, but I can get a head start next January-February if I order seeds now.
More about the Dwarf Tomato Project here: https://www.craiglehoullier.com/dwarf-tomato-breeding-project and here: https://www.dwarftomatoproject.net/
Walking early this morning, so better get going.
Have a wonderful day!

Pip Those are some expensive issues you have already taken care of. I had an older home with asbestos floor tiles and a buried oil tank…ugh…even if you've taken care of things, people are still leery. Hopefully nothing like that with your house.
Heather just following suit as you didn't really elaborate on why your small decision influenced your life so dramatically either but okay, here goes: I wanted to learn Carolina shag, so I went to lessons and became a pretty good Carolina shag dancer. There was a nightclub called Visions where people went on Sunday nights to dance to beach music. It was there that I met Billy, my second husband, father of Joy.

Lisa: 🥰 that you found yourself.
Heather: My door opening came when I found out my baby sister had cancer. She went very quickly. The upside was that It made me reassess my very busy life and apply for early retirement. I have never regretted that decision.1 -
Well I picked up Homer ,cleaned out a cupboard .. thinking about what stays and what goes ,even if I stay its time to heave ho a bunch of stuff..
Have macaroni on to make cold macaroni tuna salad for the ladies...
Also have to deop my friend Kitty off at the hairdressers and then take Dan home.. then go over to triple A...
Lisa- i feel.you.. I am darn close to where I was when I started Keto and am way to heavy..
Another reason maybe to move is there is stuff to do outdoors all year long..
Was watching Joyce Meyer this morning and she said something that hit the nail on the head..and its one of those aha moments..0 -
Karen: Ihad to google the Carolina shag! It’s a bit like jiterthe Jitter Bug! 😂0

Evie ~ Your cross stictch is beautiful. The photos of the grandchildren are lovely and they look joyful.
Lisa ~ Levi has the most beautiful blue eyes. The photos of your transformation are inspiring.
Allie ~ I think you were meant to be at the beach.
Karen VA ~ Love that photo of the church steeple.
After reading comments about CBD oil and listening to a doctor discuss it on a Rachael Rae rerun, I decided to buy some on Amazon. Then, I got to reading about potential interactions with medications and cancelled my order. It appears that it reacts with meds in a similar manner as grapefruit reacts with meds. My husband takes a blood thinner and I take several meds also that grapfruit would interfere with. So disappointed to learn this.

Terri Yes it is - perhaps more like Swing than Jitter Bug. It's supposed to be done smoothly - the difference from many other dance styles is that the most basic step is back and forth in a straight line, keeping your body directly facing your partner without any turning of your body when you rock back.

Lisa so inspiring and insightful and wonderful
Cheri I see why your husband likes that leftover yarn blanket. It's so cheerful. A feast for the eyes.

OK! heading out to work on the irrigation system. I had cantaloupe with lime and salt and a cup of strong black coffee for breakfast. Yum. 15 minutes of TODAY show. Some kitchen chores done, doggies tended to. Have a lovely day, ladies!

Karen - I think I talked about in a previous post, so I didn't want to bore folks. It opened my life to intellectual people and ideas, foreign cinema, acting and creating theatre pieces, a new actor boyfriend, and cemented a life long friendship with the girlfriends that I Zoom on Wednesdays. I invited them along to the Drama classes that were held there and we ended up best buddies for ever. It wasn't all perfect, but life bloomed with possibilities. I felt like a different person.
I rang my old university roommate this morning. Nice chat. She has asthma, so is still pretty much isolating with her husband. It was good to talk.

Carol in Ga- honestly I think your right.. I am a Cancer and water sign. The beach has always been my happy place.and living down there would invest in a good bike and bike seat for Alfie and could tootle around with him instead of driving...will bring a resume down with me and maybe leave it with a few places .. cant hurt..
And pray alot!!!3 -
Barbie: Nobody has been inside our house since we dropped our cleaning service. The women didn’t wear masks and we didn’t appreciate the possible virus concerns. In nice weather we visit with neighbors outside on our deck. It is easy to have three or four people at least 5 feet apart there. :flowerforyou: I hope you’ll tell all about your DH’s ninja foodie projects.
Cheri: Your leftover yarn scraps are now a beautiful afghan on your couch. The colors are gorgeous.
Evelyn: My mom had miscarriages, too. She blamed my dad. I think both of them were the cause because they were heavy cigarette chain smokers who lit one cigarette from the previous one. The cigarettes eventually brought about their deaths. They got my dad’s heart and my mom’s lungs.
Machka: I love the courage quotation.
Barbara: DH has had laser treatment for his eyes and it helped. The reason was excess tiny blood vessels inside his eye. On our last visit the doctor took his staff out for lunch and left us in the waiting room for more than two hours. DH hasn’t been back. :noway:
Lanette: Our dog has been getting CBD oil for months and it is very positive. Our two suppliers are ACE Hardware & Safeway. We’ve been happier with ACE. I was not happy with the spray bottle, but we’ll use it until it is gone. So far it seems to help as well as the dropper bottles do. I envy your land and real size garden. :flowerforyou:
Allie: I admire you. Heaving ho would be very hard for me. I seem to be a hoarder of things from the past—such as my Mom’s piano & my wedding dress from 50 years ago. It was a mini dress, and my mom made it for me.
We have a misty morning and a forecast of mostly cloudy with a high of 73F. I hope to find ways to have fun today.

Flea, love the alien picture! That looks like the Roswell Visitor Center!
I had a miscarriage at 2 months. Only placenta was found in DNC no embryo. Then 3 healthy children.
Baby party last night was nice. No social distancing except for me and another hosting couple whose grandson is staying with them. He’s 3 and has adopted me as ‘gramma’ and DH as Poppop! Lol
Here is 1 year old Francesa having a cake bash mom and dad too!
