Good morning all! Happy Friday! Up at 3 am. So hot, HoT, HOT! (We have ac, but the heat is coming more from menopause) The past two weeks the temps in West Michigan have been in the low to mid 90s and HUMID! The kids and I have been outside, as normal, but every day walking in the morning while it is in the 80s, playing in the kiddie pools/sprinkler in late morning/afternoon; and they have been napping GREAT! But I have been wiped out by evening. lol Weather is forecasting a couple more weeks of temps in the mid to high 90s. It is storming right now, so hopefully that will cool it down a little bit for a while. One more week of work until I have a week off, though! Whoot!
Rita- love the pic of Francesca! She looks yummy!
Machka- Keeping you in my thoughts for your surgery!
Karen VA- Did I miss the explanation of the California Shag sliding door?! This sounds interesting!
Allie- You are a force to be reckoned with! I love the fact that you are moving forward and looking into this move. I agree with Okie; travel with your passport and take care of your license at a later date.
Cheri- Wowsa! That is amazing crochet work! Lucky babies to receive such pretty blankets! And those temps! I think I will keep my humid 90s, thank you!
Lisa- I have always adored that pic of you and Corey! You are just radiant!
Sliding door moments- The first "moment" that pops into my mind is the loss of both my parents when I was 26. But in thinking on it; that was more of a "closing door" moment. I literally shut everything down for many years. Then in 2002, at almost 35 our sump pump quit working in our home. We had already had a plumber out twice that week due to children flushing things down the toilet. When the pump broke, I called the plumber to get his advice. Did he need to come out or could I do it myself? He told me I could probably fix it myself, but it is a very smelly job. My response, "I change diapers for a living; tell me what I have to do!" Hubby tried to help me, but the smell made him gag and he had to leave the room; so I did it myself. It was at that moment; that moment of taking something apart, using tools I have never used, following written directions, and watching my husband (who is usually the "handy" one) NOT be able to do this job, I realized that I am stronger than I thought and that EVERYTHING would be fine. This was my first "Rocky" moment. Hands in the air, superhero cape on, flexing muscle, face painted blue a la Braveheart (FREEDOM!) moment. That moment gave me the power to yell back at my hubby when we argued, let my opinion be known, say no, and oh...so many other little powers. Tim didn't know it, but from that moment on, I was in the drivers seat. lol "I'm Not Throwing Away My Shot"
OMIGOSH- I forgot to tell you ladies! I have discovered the musical Hamilton! lol I watched it last weekend on Disney+. When I was watching it, I wasn't thrilled with it. One song stuck in my head, though. You'll Be Back. Just so funny and wonderfully performed, and SARCASTIC. lol So, Sunday evening I had the soundtrack going while I prepped my foods for the week, soundtrack going on and off in the evenings throughout this week. My husband and son are about to kill me.
But the best part is that I have been singing the (Da da da dat...) part of You'll Be Back (earworm) so often that the kiddos are beginning to hum and sing it! lol
Last night, after the kids got picked up I took a walk to get some milkweed for four newly hatched Monarch eggs that the kids and I found on Wednesday's walk. As I was looking over the milkweed I found six more eggs and two newly hatched caterpillars, so I brought them all home! lol That is 12 soon to be Monarch butterflies to be released! I also found a patch of blackberries and picked a pint of them for the kids to eat today. A really lovely end to the day.
Well, the rain has stopped and the birds are starting their songs! I am going to sign off and get a good walk in (at my pace) if the rain holds up. Love and hugs to those who need them! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Good morning, afternoon and evening, all,
KJ - good to see you posting, thanks for the comment on the pic. Love your sliding door moment!
Rita - Francesca looks like she's having a ball. I do love it when they let the littles just dive into the cake to their heart's content and get messy.
Evelyn, Barbara, everyone who mentioned it- thank you for the comment on the pics. I look at that truly unhappy woman in the first two pictures and I don't even know her. By the time the second one was taken, I had figured out that, no matter how much weight I lost, I couldn't fix what was wrong with my marriage. Found out later that my brothers and sisters were making bets on how long I'd stay with him once I lost the weight.
Katla - the concert sounds lovely.
Annie - glad you had a good ride!
Tracey - now that's a moment, when it shapes your next 25 years!
Got drenched yesterday while out finding some pickling spice to make refrigerator pickles, then got home and the electricity was off because of the storm. Four hours later, it came back on, and my Kindle still had 25% power, so I had survived just fine. Just sat and read the whole time. My kind of afternoon. And, since the garden got a good soaking, won't have to water again today.
Heat indexes are sky-high here in Arkansas, as well, between 100 and 110 for the next two weeks. Will just try to stay inside in the afternoon... however, having just got our electric bill and it went up $60 from the prior month, I'm also edging the temperature in the house up every day. Was at 72, and I've got it up to 75 so far. Would like to acclimate to getting through the summer at 80 degrees to save both some wear and tear on the air conditioner and on our bills. As my husband says, any time I get too hot, I can just step outside, and by the time I step back in, 80 degrees will feel very comfortable.
Ah well, Egg just upchucked in the hallway, so whatever else I was going to say just flew out of my head.
Later y'all,
Love,

Getting Drew is my sliding door moment. Husband was upset with me getting her. He did not have a dog growing up. To reach and grab onto to something that brings me such joy in the face of such opposition brings me strength is my turning moment. Never again will I let someone else keep me from something this important to me. Fortunately I am able to slowly introduce her to him and I do it it on his terms. I know he needs her as much as I do. MEN! Sometimes they just don't know what is good for them.
In the one week since getting her dropped three pounds because I am so happy.4 -
Allie: I’ve been wondering how Faith is doing. She is lucky that you are her care giver. You excel at it. :flowerforyou:
Margaret: I understand the value of a sweet dog. They are excellent companions. Our old boy is doing okay for now. He has a cancer on his backside and the veterinarian is waiting for it to reach a certain point before removing it. He referred to it as ripening. There is a risk in surgery, and a risk in not having surgery.
Last night I took the dog for a walk to the county park where there was a concert underway. The group was excellent, and some of the audience members danced to the music. We’ve had a 13 Nights on the River concert series every summer and I’d thought that it might be cancelled this year. It was great finding that the concert series is on. Some members of the audience wore masks, and others did not, but there was plenty of room for appropriate social distancing. Everyone had a good time. I noticed a grandfather teaching his grandson to dance.

Went for my run. Found it much harder today. My back was aching. But I got round. Lovely weather. It's going to be busy over the weekend. We will keep away from the seafront.
The cleaner is here, so I am hiding in the bedroom.
Friday night is wine night. We are having sea bass, so DH has chosen a Picpoul.
Going to text the floor sanding guys to make an appointment for an estimate.
LOVING your sliding door moments. More please!

I just started MFP this past week but have been working on losing weight for a few months. My weigh in day is Monday.
My goals for July:
Transfer from counting calories to counting carbs.
Exercise at least 3x per week by walking at least 20 minutes at a time.
My biggest problem is eating when I am tired instead of going to sleep. I use to belong to Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS), an in-person support group, which helped me get down to 220 lbs but I don't have a way to get to meetings any more. So I'm hoping to find encouragement and support here.
Have a great day everyone!5 -

I so agree with you about the cat/dog yakking sound that gets you moving fast. With a dog and seven indoor cats, we hear it often- one of them is always coughing up a fur ball.
We did not plan on having that many cats but they seem to find us and we keep them- all are formerly feral kitties. All are fixed and so is the only outside one still around(and a few others that we also took in to get fixed)1 -
Tracey: Some people treat seniors in a care facility as though they are children. In cases where Alzheimers has robbed them of their memories or cognitive ability, it may be a necessity. My grandmother was an example. She habitually took sleeping pills and booze, and wrecked her own brain. My mom was a different story. She was not mentally impaired, but she ruined her lungs by chain smoking cigarettes, one after another. We moved her to a senior facility near us and she loved the social life there. I could visit her every day. Lung damage from smoking eventually put her in the hospital. I hope to stay out of those situations as I age. :flowerforyou:
Annie: I haven’t been to the stable in weeks. I want to go as soon as I can. I’ve been sequestered at home too long. The stable offers exercise, fun & plenty of social distancing.
Barbara: I think the long time in the doctor’s waiting room was the result of them closing their practice for a long while due to the Covid situation. They had a back-log of patients & had to completely sterilize everything between patients. I didn’t mind waiting for a germ-free surgical room. :noway:
Renewing1: Welcome to a great group of supportive women. Some of us are in the losing weight process and others are working on maintaining. Stop in often for encouragement, support, & to get to know people. :flowerforyou:

Nice to meet you Renewing.👍. I too was a TOPS member back in the day. It was probably 2009-2015. I was a member of a group out of Vacaville CA, then we moved to Oregon and I was a member of the group in Warrenton, out at the coast. Fun times, I need to get out my card and start saying The Pledge daily.😁
I started TOPS as a way to further my weight loss. I had joined Jenny Craig, and went from 265 to 200 lbs. I remember when I weighed in at the meeting, and was in Onederland. Now over the years I am up to 230. From that weigh in day until now, I have survived much! A hectic move, a dying husband, a husband healing, a marriage crumbling, a marriage being rebuilt. All those have taken its toll on me, so I have to give myself some grace in all that.
Today shopping day. (I will not buy candy, I will not buy candy!!).
Maybe buy strawberries if they're hearty looking!

It was so nice when the telemarketers were not calling for the first three months of Covid. Now they are back.
Just in the last ten minutes I got two- First one I answered because caller ID says Kaiser Permanente. Of course I will pick that up- Husband had his Covid test done on Tues. and they said if it is positive they will call you. It was a robot saying we were over charged by a third party electrical company and to press 1 to get a rebate.
Second call did not answer- sorry but not answering a call from Mr. Mickey Hickey.4 -
with all the crap going on right now, i forgot kirby's bday when we were in the kitchen this morning. ughhh.

DH got an email to say his mobile phone company couldn't take his fee (direct debit). I'm sure it's a scam. Please be careful everyone. I had to remind him.

Did spinning today. The plan for tomorrow is to do an Ellen Barrett Fat Burning Fusion DVD. This is yoga and pilates.
Barbara – I’m sorry the drops didn’t work for Joe. Sure hope the specialist can help him. Be sure to keep us informed.
Jess just told us that she’s leaving for VA tomorrow after work since they’re leaving for Idaho early the next day. I admit that I’m worried about her flying.
I’ve only asked her weeks ago to go thru those boxes. Of course, it still isn’t done. We were thinking she was leaving next week. Vince still needs to do her taxes. Wouldn’t surprise me if what I want gets put off. Par for the course. Vince said a few days ago that he’d talk to her about going thru the boxes, maybe she’ll listen to him. Of course, that hasn’t been done either. I only got a frame for a picture she gave us and put the picture in the frame. Was waiting for Vince to put it up, now I think just to get it done I’ll do it. I think it will make Jess feel good to know that we’re using something that she gave us. I’d also like to use this google thing that Colby gave us to say “ok, Google, add XXX to my shopping list” We shall see if that gets done. Maybe I should just do it. Vince wants to use it for playing music.
But soup kitchen today! I put on my makeup and earrings. First need to stop at Lynette’s.
<breathe deeply, breathe deeply> grrrr….Vince has this idea of how we should go thru those boxes of Jess’. He takes everything out of a box, stands there while Jess is working, comments on pictures, asking me what I would do if Jess says she doesn’t want something. Really, she’s doing work, let her work. Then…there is one box of things that evidently she wrapped up from her apt. but didn’t want in storage. Vince goes on and on to me about how there’s this box with things wrapped up and how I should have unwrapped everything, see, this is what you should do to get ready. Well, Jess was upset that he started to open it and why did I take the box out of the closet. I just said, “Jess, if you had looked at those boxes, you could have told me that it was things that you didn’t want in storage and all this could have been eliminated”. Guess who had to rewrap things? Had we done it my way, Jess would have just looked at the box and said that it was things that she didn’t want in storage. But, no….we have to do it Vince’s way. And then he doesn’t rewrap things, I do. <breathe, breathe> I know that (even Bryan has said this) Vince feels he’s always right. And if he isn’t…he’s calculating. Yes, there are many things that he’s smart about. But he’s not feelings savvy. Like I told him that it wouldn’t surprise me if Colby’s mother is thinking that he wants to return to the church because they’ve been going out there so much lately and this time they’re going out for 2 weeks. Speaking as a mother, I know that’s how I’d feel. Yes, it may not be logical, it’s emotional. Vince just said to me “no” I’m just letting it ride.
Margaret – I am so happy for you and Drew
Dlfk – you’re right. We’re now getting telemarketers and junk mail. It was SOOO nice not to get it We just got two calls that I never answered, from some city in NC that I’d never heard of

Barbara, I’m so sorry about your hubby’s glaucoma. Mine has it, too. He keeps his under control with two different prescription eye drops, one twice a day and one once a day. He has had retina tears in the past that he had to have lasered. He has also had some other kind of laser treatment in the doctors office twice that was specifically to lower the pressure. His seems to be under control at the moment.0
-
Tom had drops for glaucoma and had the laser done, and no longer needs drops. The drops were very expensive..
He is really worried about Homer ..he is 14 and has glaucoma and has had a good amount of teeth extracted. Tom is an excellent dog dad and would spend any amount on him to keep him in good shape...
When I have Homer at my house he just hangs out and sleeps has a late lunch and treats and relaxes....he is an old doggy man..
I am just waiting for my relief to show up both Sean and Jean are off and up to the Cottage..im hoping I can get home and get my plants out of harms way before the rain starts we are supposed to get parts of tropical storm Fay...here in Connecticut1 -
Taxes make me feel like an idiot! Mine shouldn't be hard but it's so unfamiliar and my memory is poor. And I'm too cheap to buy the software. I don't think it would work right anyway with my dad running another copy on the same network. Oh well one small task at a time and I will get through this.

Is it Turbo Tax or something similar? If so, you can do more than one tax return with the software. I believe you can only e-file one return for free, but you could still do them with the software and either mail in the return or pay the fee to e-file an additional return.

Pip: Oops. With the right incentives, I’ll bet Kirby forgives you. Wish Kirby a happy birthday from me.
Heather: It appears that phone scams are a worldwide phenomenon. I hang up on them after telling them to never call again. :grumble:
Michele: Air travel has an inherent cabin air situation, I believe they recirculate the air and I don’t know whether or how they filter it. If you find out, I hope you’ll share the information. :flowerforyou:
Barbara: DH had some lazer work done on his eyes, and was given prescription eye drops. He doesn’t recall just what the brand was. I would expect your DH’s eye doctor to write a prescription or supply some of the drops.
Allie: I hope the storm is not damaging where you live. :flowerforyou:
DH hasn’t been feeling well the past few days. He says he is following doctor’s advice, but I don’t think he’s talked with her recently. I’m going to encourage him to contact her. When that doesn’t work, I’ll nag him about it.

👋🏽 A quick happy Friday wave to you ladies.
Machka: Enjoy your one night respite and get well soon. I totally felt you when you wrote about the anguish of not knowing when/if you will travel again. Traveling with my DH is now done forever. It causes him anxiety which just ruins the trip for me. Not worth the time, resources and effort. I traveled frequently before retiring 2 years ago, so will live off those memories until I am freed of caregiver duties. I hope your situation has more upside.
➡ DH is napping so I have a mini-respite. I got him showered and shaved today...Yay! He ate a hearty lunch and fell asleep in his chair watching a program on some kind of USAF plane. He may be 50+ years out of the military, but truly retains pride from being associated with the Air Force during the Viet Nam era.
➡ DB is still waiting for his Medicaid package, but in the meantime is taking himself back to the ER due to back pain and blood in urine. He continues to accumulate fluid in his abdomen and looks like he has swallowed a watermelon. It's misery for him on so many levels.
➡ I'm still stressed, but holding on. Starting to schedule interviews with caregivers who practice the DAWN method for dementia care. Colorado during the lockdown made a dent in the number of Covid 19 cases. Then my county reopened and that started the spread again. Ugh. So, with 2 compromised guys in a small condo, we are still far from ready to introduce a stranger into our mix. I still do 90% of my grocery shopping via curb pick up or delivery. The liquor and green stores are the only exceptions, and I haven't been to either of those in over two months. Yesterday we went to the Starbucks drive-thru just to give DH a little escapade out of the house. The person in front of us paid for our drink, and I burst out in tears because it was such a pleasant, unexpected surprise. I immediately volunteered to pay for the person behind us.
Allie: Hope your relocation prospect pans out even better than you imagined.
Well, DH just woke, so I gotta fly. Stay well, friends. We can do this.
