well life got in the way and both monday and tuesday i was unable to run
but i have a few rest days and this is just easy runs. so i'm hoping to take those rest days and go slow with make up runs. another reason i need to get my hypersomnia under control. 4am runs would make sure i could get my runs in like i'm supposed to.
on the other hand, i did some "crosstraining" doing poop patrol in the yard and some weeding of my garden beds.3 -

So funny story... my employer has a program where they award people that do healthy things like get a flu shot, get regular health screenings and such.
Well one of them is a "step challenge" and I was like, oh, I will just connect my Garmin and see what happens.
Heh.
Well, not only have I blow past the 2 million step challenge (with many months to spare) but I am also number 10 in the WORLD for the number of steps this month.
I feel bad almost since yesterday I was not on the charts, and today I knocked someone out of the top ten. Ops
This comes with a CASH REWARD, so I will be able to buy new shoes (or maybe a new lens) soon! I just need figure out how to claim it.

@PastorVincent The past 2 years my work had the same million then 2 million step challenge. We had to do it at least 3 months and I was always over.
This year they took that away and we had to pick two activities. Oh track 20 nights sleep and 20 days tracking food? I was done in the first month. 🤣
Goal pace workout today. I cut the cool down short because time. But I hit the paces and got 4 miles in.
Workout was 5 min at 9:49-10:09. Splits under spoiler.
16.6/80 for the month4 -

Oh, they have track sleep too... but they want you to track SEVEN HOURS A NIGHT - Yeah, not gonna pull that one off.2 -
@Scott6255 Wow. You did great to get in 6 miles at those temps that early in the morning. I've forgotten. Where do you live?
@PastorVincent Congratulations! A cash reward for walking/running would be nice.
@RunsOnEspresso Great run!
@PastorVincent It's funny that your work wants you to sleep 7 hours, as that has been my goal lately. How many times have I achieved that? Very few. Still a work in progress.

Got up early to get my run in before it gets too hot. I really was NOT in the mood to run today, but it was scheduled to be a short, easy one, so that helped me get out the door. The first half mile or so my left knee was hurting. I thought I was going to have to stop and just walk, but it surprisingly felt better when I sped up a bit. I must step funny when going really slow. Then, when I did the turn around on the driveway it hurt again. Finally the bell went off in my head. All of the times I have run driveway laps, I have made that short turn counterclockwise, so have put a lot of pressure on that knee by doing so. The rest of the run, I made that short turn going clockwise and actually walked those few steps instead of running. That made all of the difference. I need to remember to change up the direction I do my turns so as not to over stress one side.
Overall, the run wasn't bad. Temp was 70°F with 88% humidity. Plan called for easy 25 minutes. I ran 2 miles and walked 1.
Also 7/20 walking.

@Avidkeo and @ContraryMaryMary I WISH our government would respond the way yours is. I am still working. Kids are expected to return to school, in person, in twelve days. We get new cases every day, though we might be seeing a downward trend. It's not a good situation.
I have made one solid decision about this school year: If they close schools again, the kids will be expected to do 4 hours of school work each day, virtually. And the grades WILL count. So. I'll be working from home. And honestly, I can't wait. Working through this whole thing with kids at home has really sucked.
On running:
I GOT A PR FOR 10K DISTANCE! It's not an amazing pace, but I finished 6.47 miles in 1:08:47, giving me a 10:37 pace! I don't think this has ever happened!
I didn't even want to go out - I had a million gazillion reasons not to. Work. Rain. Kids. Dog. Tired. Just didn't want to.
But then I just kept moving forward in the routine - get dressed. Choose socks. Put on shoes. Get water. Insist on forward movement.
When the music started, my mood shifted immediately and I just.... WENT. It was like flying and it was so much fun! The temperature was mid 70's (I think) after thunderstorms all day - so the humidity was bad, but the breeze was great. I was DRENCHED by the time I finished and I couldn't believe how little time it took. I'm still reeling over it. I think it's probably an anomaly and may never happen again but mannn.... that feels good!
@quilteryoyo thank you! My friend actually requested dinner for tomorrow night, which I suppose is fine. I may uber eats it over to her since i have a longer run tomorrow.
Anyway... back to work I suppose.
@PastorVincent I wish my job would do something for me for being so freaking healthy.... like maybe bring me a doughnut.......12 -
@Camaramandy648 Congratulations on your PR and the fact that is felt so good and easy! You are doing great!0

@quilteryoyo that makes sense about the knee and changing direction for your turns. Such little things but they can add up. Hope that solves your knee pain issue.
@Camaramandy648 congrats on your PR!
Great job running, everyone.

Today's workout was steps at the park with a 30 lb weighted vest, and then a trail run. I wasn't going to do the run, but I knew I would have a hard time doing it later, so I went along. These friends tend to go much faster than me, so running with them causes me some anxiety about slowing them down. I decided that because I mentioned the other day that maybe my effort was lacking, I should practice both pushing myself a little bit more and not worrying about it if I dropped behind. I'd say I was moderately successful on both fronts.7 -

I ran 6 miles this morning. It was hot at 83°F feels like 86°F at 5:50, but that was the coolest part of the day, so what can you do? It was a pretty good run. I hoped to get more sleep last night and I did. But I still only got a little over 5 hours. It's better than a little over 4 hours the night before, but still leaves you feeling pretty tired. I think I saw a fox again this morning. It might have been a small dog, but I really think it was a fox. Other than that it was a pretty uneventful run. I enjoyed it though. It was nice to just get out and run and is a good stress relief.
My dad is doing ok today, but he had some complications yesterday. He was having trouble communicating with the nurses and they were concerned that he may have had a small stroke. They ended up asking for a family member to come in and try to help communicate with him. He is also extremely hard of hearing. He has a 100% blockage on his left carotid (that he has had for years) and they were worried about stroke risk, so they transferred him to another hospital so a specialist could evaluate him and see if he had any clots or needed surgery. The specialist said that there are no other clots and no signs of a stroke. The blockage has been there for years and isn't causing the symptoms and they don't need to do surgery. They think he had some episodes of low blood pressure that caused the symptoms. He is able to communicate with the nurses this morning but is still having some trouble with long sentences and with remembering some words. They called that expressive aphasia. He had that when he had his heart surgery several years ago and it cleared up in a couple of days. My sister said it isn't as bad this time as it was then. The hospital he is in now will allow one person to visit, so she is going to go and stay with him today. He can hear her better than anyone and it is good to have her there to talk with the staff. So they are going to continue to monitor his blood pressure to make sure it doesn't drop too low. And he is healing well from the hip surgery so we are stressed. bit still feeling encouraged. Thanks again for all the well wishes @teresa502, @Faebert @quilteryoyo and @HonuNui and anyone else I may have missed. Your support really helps.

@HonuNui Stan and I are facebook friends in "real life" so I see what is happening with him there, but we don't run into each other any more. He has remarried and seems blissfully happy.4

Great job on your 10K PR @Camaramandy648!
Wow @PastorVincent Top 10 in the WORLD for steps 😵 I am humbled!
@kgirlhart glad your Dad didn't have a stroke and hopefully he will be feeling better in a few days!
@skippygirlsmom hope Skip finds this school much more to her liking! Scary she is going back in these uncertain times, but I'm sure she will stay as safe as possible.2 -
@kgirlhart So glad your dad seems to be doing better today and didn't have a stroke. Also glad that the new hospital allows someone to be with him. That has to be a great stress reliever for him and all of you.0

Thanks. It is! I know you understand with your dad being hard of hearing as well. I talked to my sister a little while ago and she said he is doing much better today.2 -
Thanks @Scott6255 !0

Wow @PastorVincent Top 10 in the WORLD for steps 😵 I am humbled!
It is only like 500-something-K steps. The number one guy has 2.5 million steps in the last thirty days. Given the miles, I run and how far behind him I am, I ASSUME he works at a treadmill desk or something.
1 -
@PastorVincent I could be an All-star if there were a category for "Most Calories Consumed."
HA! I might not win that, but I would likely enjoy trying

Yes, great news. Doctors and Nurses are great, but having family there can make a huge difference in recovery and treatmean.2 -
5k trail running plus 4 miles hiking. I was worried about my knee since I tripped over my shoelaces before I tucked them in and really wrenched my bad knee, but it turned out to feel fine when running and seems fine now. I’m slower than before my break but felt pretty nimble and not like one foot was clumsy, like it has felt in the past when my knee was bugging me. Decided not to push it because I haven’t run trails in a while.
It was supposed to thunderstorm but then didn’t, so I figured this would be a good chance to get to the park without too many others there, and I was right. We passed only a few people and those were very conscientious, serious runner types, unlike the last time we were there when it was a bunch of families swarming everywhere in my personal space.
I really love being out in nature. Everything smelled like wildflowers.
Look what happened to the trail though! We were supposed to cross this, it’s usually dry here! The trail crossing was under about a foot of fast water, seemed dangerous so we went back and went a different way.
Also, does anyone know what this is? It’s some kind of fungus I guess but it was like a clear jelly.3 -
@kgirlhart I’m glad your sister is with your dad and he hasn’t had a stroke! My mom is about the same age and also deaf, and she gets really dippy mentally if she gets even a slight illness, so hopefully it’s just a passing thing.
@Camaramandy648 Hooray PR!
@quilteryoyo Hoping that swapping directions clears up the knee problem!1 -
I broke my Wunjo. It is tots my fault but man it is too hot to run without it Mrs. Pastor Vincent it going to look into seeing if it can be sown.4
-
No idea that that is @rheddmobile - maybe the blob as a baby?1
-
@rheddmobile we have a similar algae in our yard. It is clear green though. Is there an agriculture office in your area? They might help. Or park rangers office even. I could find nothing colorless. Plants need chlorophyll, so not sure what’s up with that one. Maybe it’s “dead”.

ETA I have a young male cat that likes to play with the stuff, fetches it like a prize. It’s kinda cool and safe to handle.2
