So funny story. Wondering why everyone had suddenly gone quiet.
I was still in the July thread. Forgot it was August.
So um, my goal is to cycle and heal, and be back with a new goal in September. Wow light at the end of the tunnel!
I did wonder why you were still commenting in the July thread. Whoops!
Good to see you're still about, and healing.3 -
Morning all, got my 10k in this morning but it was super sticky and hot so I decided to just take it really slowly but keep going, no breaks, walking, breathers etc. So I added a couple of minutes to my usual time but I’m glad I was able to hold it steady and keep going even with the big hills. I know it makes running so much harder but we so rarely get this kind of weather in London I refuse to complain about it! My Greek soul is loving it!
Hope everyone is doing well. @AlphaHowls is the poison ivy any better? @skippygirlsmom hope the college prep is going well. @PastorVincent I don’t think I’ll ever be at a place where more than 40 miles qualifies as a low mileage week! Hi and high fives to everyone else, especially those battling much madder heat than I!

Slept in and then everything went wrong for my planned bike ride to the track (surprise schedule change and a flat tire and probably for the best 'cause it's hot out there in the sun) so I did my speedwork on the hilly trails in the woods behind my house. Somehow all of the uphill parts fell on the fast intervals LOL. But overall, it felt good.5

We had thunderstorms all evening, so no run last night. I ended up doing a couple of ab and arm videos instead.
@kgirlhart, hope all goes well with your dad.2 -
Today is a rest day for me. I thought I'd pop in and ask for prayers and good vibes for my dad. He fell last night and broke his hip. They are doing surgery today at 4:00. He is in relatively good shape, but will be 83 in two weeks and he does have a pacemaker. Plus his hearing is really bad so it is especially hard for him being alone in the hospital.
hope he has a quick recovery

Mostly sunny and low 70s F today. Started out at an easy pace, but couldn't maintain it and dropped back to slow.
I keep forgetting that dragging a set of clubs around chasing a little ball on a golf course is more like cross training than rest. My legs always feel it the next day.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles
Stretch goal: If I can average 169k per month, I can run 2020k in 2020
Run the Year Team: Pavement Pounders

9-19 Race for the Parks 5k, Hudson, OH

@quilteryoyo I'm pretty sure it was a job-site trailer. We have them at my job, but I was already so on edge. And I wasn't in the mood to get kidnapped and murdered. Blech.
@shanaber I don't blame you - I hate when I go out for a run hoping to achieve x and leave feeling so annoyed at the world.
First leg of the Vertigo challenge (119k) was a 6k = 3.7 something miles. Took the dog. He had so much fun. He's turning into quite the runner, but I think he wasn't expecting to run so much! I forget, he smells everything and stops to pee a lot. We also saw some deer - He did so well!!!! We separated a mom and her baby, but I am hoping that since we didn't attack them, they were able to find each other.
Tonight is the 10K.
My calves really didn't bother me last night but they are still very sore today. I have used the massage gun on them and am really paying extremely close attention to nutrition, salt, carbs, etc. I think it really is just from all the jumping around Saturday night.
I don't feel like running tonight. I didn't feel like running last night but by the time I got off work, I was raring to go. I'm hoping tonight will be the same.
A friend of mine is sick - presumed positive COVID. I haven't seen her in weeks, since I made the decision to quit attending services physically. Lots of people from church are getting diagnosis now. I told her I would drop off a meal at her front door this evening. Over-committing, per the usual, but this is important. So for dinner, I'll just make a double portion and run her family's over to them and then come home and run. That should work...
Tomorrow will be a rest day and then the real challenge begins. Consistently going each day with increased mileage is no easy feat but I can't seem to stop doing it.5 -

August Goal: 100 Miles
8/2: 10.52 miles
8/4: 6.40 miles
8/5: 6.52 miles
8/6: 6.22 miles
8/9: 11.02 miles
8/11: 5.51 miles

862.20/1000 miles for Run the Year Team Pavement Pounders
Thanks for all the kind words @quilteryoyo @Tramboman @rheddmobile @PastorVincent @polskagirl01 @Elise4270 @ABabilonia @shanaber @katharmonic @marisap2010 and @mbaker566 I really appreciate it. Everything went well yesterday with my dad. He was in good spirits before hand joking around with the staff that if they had to cut his beard he was going home. (My dad is almost 83 and he looks like Santa Clause). He doesn't use a cell phone and he was really having a hard time hearing on the phone in the room, but my sister's neighbor is a hospitalist who works at the hospital and he called my brother-in-law so we were able to talk face time with him and see him. I didn't get to "see" him before the surgery because they took him in earlier than planned and didn't tell us. But I was able to "see" him afterward and he looked and sounded good. Groggy, but not any more than you would expect. They kept him in ICU overnight since he takes blood thinners but they expect to move him to a regular room today and the physical therapist should be coming around soon to see him and get him moving. I'm not sure how long he will be in the hospital but he is planning to do the in-patient rehab so it may be a little while. I just don't know for sure when they will move him from the hospital to the rehab facility. One good thing about my parents is that they are both very compliant and if the doctors tell them to do something they will do it so I am hopeful that his recovery will go good.
So after a long, stressful day yesterday and only getting a little over 4 hours sleep last night I got up and ran this morning. I debated postponing my run. But it was 80°F feels like 83°F at 6:00 this morning and it is already 91°F feels like 98°F now at 11:00 am and it is supposed to be 103° later today, so I knew if I didn't get out there this morning I wouldn't get it done today. And I knew that I would feel better if I ran than I would if I didn't plus I was already awake so I got up and ran. It wasn't a bad run either. I left the house later than I usually do so I didn't run as far west as I have been, but I still got in 5.5 miles. And my pace was 10:37 mi/min which I thought was really good considering I hadn't slept well and it was over 80°.

@kgirlhart thinking of your dad!
@ContraryMaryMary thoughts with you!
Covid info: For those who haven't seen the news, NZ have 4 new community cases announced last night breaking our 102 day streak. Within 6 hrs of the government finding out, they have put lockdown in place again. Where I am, it's simple social distance, but they've locked down Auckland, our largest city, where @ContraryMaryMary lives. So schools are closed. Basically everything is closed except takeaway food. It's technically only for 3 days but I think everyone expects this to go longer than that.6 -
Thanks @PastorVincent @Camaramandy648 and @Avidkeo! And sorry to hear about the NZ covid status. Y'all stay safe!
1 -
Glad to hear your dad is doing good @kgirlhart. Great run especially considering all those factors!
@Avidkeo - sorry about the cases. Do they know how they got into the country?

That’s why we are in lockdown - four people in one family with no known connection to anyone in managed isolation or who works on border control.
The three-day lockdown will be to try and work out how they caught it and that will dictate whether we stay in lockdown or not.
We knew this would happen. It was always just a case of when.
In more positive news: My children are delighted!6 -

@ContraryMaryMary - I read that someone in the family had traveled out of the country and presumably brought it back with them and now they were doing the contact tracing... Hoping it is just the one family that is affected!1 -
Fab news @kgirlhart - fingers crossed the recovery continues well.0
-
@shanaber Hobbes looks like he is really enjoying himself. Glad you're able to run more and getting used to the PM.
@kgirlhart Hope your dad is doing well today.0 -
@Camaramandy648 Good luck with all of your running. Sorry to hear about your friend. I hope she and her family will be okay.
@AlphaHowls Glad your poison ivy rash is getting better. I apparently got some the last day we worked on the trees in the drive way - this past Friday, despite wearing long sleeves and taking a shower as soon as we were done. I didn't notice anything until yesterday, which I think is a little odd. Guess I just took longer to react to it this time. Thankfully, mine isn't really itching to much, just red and funky looking.
@kgirlhart Glad everything went well with your dad. Praying for a speedy recovery.
@Avidkeo and @ContraryMaryMary Hope it is only the one family and things will get back to normal with you all soon.1 -
Today was the longest I ran without slowing to a walk! Pushed thru the mental barrier and kept going 😁9 -

No, that’s why the city’s in lockdown. That family hasn’t been traveling or exposed knowingly to anyone with Covid. It’s community transmission, and that’s the issue.
Thanks for your concern everyone, 4 community transmission cases in a city of 1.6 million ain’t too bad. Especially the way our govt responds to this. I only hope it’s all over before my next event on Sept 20 (because it’s all about me!).8 -
