The temps were nice this morning, but the humidity definitely not. I was on a time crunch because I wanted to get to a class - our gym started holding outdoor workout classes today as they are still not able to open. My trainer was having a class at 9:15 so I wanted to support him and the gym. I ran a few loops of the lakes, hustled to class, and then had to leave that early to get to another appointment. So the whole morning felt rushed and incomplete. But better something than nothing I guess.
The outdoor workout class went pretty well I think. It was hot out there with the sun beating down. We brought our own mats and they brought out the dumbbells and kettlebells on a cart. We cleaned them off when we were done. They did have some tents set up that offer some shade and shelter in case of rain. The way they had them set up next to the building seemed a little too close and and stuffy so I'm hoping they'll potentially move them.
For right now they are charging $10 per class as our memberships are still on hold. At that rate I probably won't do too many, but I'm not sure when/how personal training is going to start. NY state and Cuomo are being pretty tough about gyms so it's not clear that they will open any time soon.

Sunny and low 60s today. Actually had the discipline to start slow and stay slow throughout the run.
Since dreams seem popular, anybody have recurring dreams? I used to dream I was playing with a ball in a curved train tunnel, and I could hear a train coming. I dropped the ball and it rolled to the other side of the train tracks. As long as I stayed near the side of the tunnel, the train would never come around the bend in the tunnel. But as soon as I stepped onto the tracks to get the ball, the train would appear. I've had that dream multiple times.

Ha, I know there is a meaning behind the fact that every time you get on track things start crashing down. But I don't know the specifics 🤔
I have had a recurring dream seems like hundreds of times. It's slightly different circumstances sometimes, but I always am in a school and I forget my schedule and don't know where to go. And sometimes when I am in middle school or high school I forget my locker combination.
I'm sure it means I don't know my direction in life 😩2 -

I think mine means I'm afraid of locomotives.2 -
@Tramboman I have two or three recurring dreams. One I am back in the Air Force and have to go somewhere, but can't find my hat. Another is that I am back in college and get lost trying to get to a class that I have missed so much of that I am not going to be able to graduate. And the other is that I am driving and the brakes on the car fail. I don't wreck, just can't stop...and usually I am going in reverse when it happens. Oh, I remember I did wreck once, but wasn't hurt and had knocked down a bunch of trees which cleared a path to a lake and everyone that lived there was very happy I did. LOL
@katharmonic I hate days when I feel rushed all day. Glad you got in the exercise though.
I had planned to run 6 miles this morning, but my friend wanted to play tennis, so I did that instead. I hope to get the run in in the morning. I came home and mowed the lawn. Very active non-running day.

I met a friend at 6 am and ran 15 miles this morning. It was a good run. I ran 11 miles on Wednesday and the last four were such a struggle. I had ridden my bike 40 miles on Tuesday so I think my legs were just tired from that.7

I have that college dream occasionally myself.
Maybe it's a military thing.1 -
@AlphaHowls - I hope you find some relief from the poison ivy. I have been fortunate enough to have never experienced it or poison oak either. I am amazed that you can still run despite the rash! But then you continually amaze me anyways!
Cicadas - I don't think I have ever seen one at all. What do they look like - a big cockroach? I would be freaked out by the empty shells too @marisap2010!
Dreams - I don't seem to remember my dreams any longer. I used to dream about work and would 'talk' about problems I was working through, usually a technical systems or coding issue, and in the morning I would often know what the solution was.
Today's run was ok, it was around 70 when I headed out and over 80 by the time I got home. I called it an Interrupted Run. We are having problems with our 87yo neighbor (her house flooded on Thursday) and she was texting me repeatedly. I finally begged my husband to go over and reassure her. I also had stomach issues that may have been related to all her texting and the frustrations. So I walked most of mile 5 to the bathroom then ran and walked home, stopping when I got over heated. I had not planned to go so far and am glad I took my hydration pack with me in case I needed it which I did! I wanted to count this for my ISS virtual 10k but think I will do that next week for my 'long' run if it isn't too hot.
I am continuing to have issues with my HR not keeping up and/or dropping off suddenly and making me dizzy. I will be discussing with the doctor when I see him next in September.
In the meantime I am going to drop back on my mileage next week and focus more on just running a complete distance or time interval.
Tomorrow is a much needed rest day.

Speaking of dreams, we just saw Inception for the first time. Thoughts in the spoiler, cause spoilerVery interesting movie but I am not a fan of the ending. I have my own theory. I personally believe that Cobb never woke up from that dream with Mal, and Mal was right. So while he woke all the way up from the dreams we saw in the movie, he never made it back to reality.
I am aware of the plot hole of the wedding ring, and the father-in-law, AND the murder, AND the kids, and few others (like the useless top totem) but if I start with the assumption everything in the film was on purpose, then Cobb still dreaming is the only thing that fits.
If I assume poor writing dealing with things like murder charges being dropped in MINUTES, including clearing all they way through immigration, with a single phone call from a foreigner, then he woke up into reality and the movie is not as good as I want it to be.
So either Cobb is still dreaming, or the writing sucks cause there are to many things that only make sense in a dream - some of which Mal points out. I am going with he is still dreaming.1 -

Foot was hurting to much this week to get in any running. Felt better this morning, so I set out for 5, but had to run/walk. Ran first mile, run/walk last 4 miles. My friend joined me for last 3. She much faster runner than me. She did notice I was still limping a little on the foot.
Going to try for 2-3 miles tomorrow morning.
Still trying to decide about my virtual half marathon in December. We have until Tuesday to make a decision about the race - deferring until next year, running virtual this year or even adding different distances to run.3 -
@PastorVincent
I thoughtthe general consensuswas he was still dreamingat the end of Inception.
It's been years though so I don't really remember.1 -
Thoughts much appreciated!
I went to walk-in clinic this morning. Doctor prescribed prednisone for 9 days and ointment. I have to keep taking the benadryl. I got through the day, but feeling really weird, a little spaced out. A little bit of trouble 'resting' since I can feel my heart beat @60 + beats/minute. Usually when I rest, my beats are 48 and below.
...and yes, I went 18.11 miles before I went there6 -
Evening all, I’m sitting on the couch rolling my legs and feet following today’s super-long Xterra event (22.5km and nearly 500m of elevation).
I was very pleased with how I went, but it’s hard to judge on trail - could I have gone faster? Yes, in places but the trail was narrow and I couldn’t pass at a few points, I encountered confusing signage and had to stop and wait for about a minute for someone with a better sense of direction than me to show up, and I was a bit tentative on some of the downhills as I find them scary especially on uneven and root-laced paths.
On the other hand, I feel I paced myself well (massive hills make a regular speed impossible but my perceived rate of exertion was consistent) and while I had enough in the tank for a fast finish, this was aided by being on a forestry road and a gentle decline and a man just ahead of me going at a good clip (he bottled it in the last 200 meters and I passed him just before the finish!)
Happily, I was surprisingly strong uphill (I’m not usually) which is thanks to a hugely improved base fitness due to all the extra running over lockdown and since then. I managed to pass a lot of people going up, which felt amazing, especially when I noted that I was not just going faster but breathing easier as well.
Downhill was not so great - there were a couple of quite technical descents and then, at around the 17km mark, there was a very long and steep downhill on very soft sands. Upside was that if you took a tumble it probably wouldn’t hurt, downside was by the end my quads were screaming. I did wonder whether I’d rooted my legs for the final 5k but, after getting off the sand dunes, along the beach and up the final hill, I pulled out all the stops for a speedy final 2.5km.
On top of this, not only was it a stunningly beautiful location (in a pine forest by the beach), the weather was cool and overcast without the feared rain (tremendous downpour while we were driving there had me worried), and even better, the sun came out at the finish. To achieve event perfection, finishers all got hot chips (and beer if so desired but not what I like at the end if a hard run).
So all up, a good day at the office.15 -

It's been years though so I don't really remember. The actor that played the father-in-law came out a few years ago and said that every scene he was in was in the real world. So that set the debate going again. But I do not accept that, as I mentioned above.
Did not get my long run yesterday. Spent 5 hours and $300 trying to fix a sink which is still leaking. Yay.5 -

@PastorVincent I have never seen or heard of that movie. I'll have to look for it now. Sounds interesting.
@AlphaHowls You are amazing. I hope the meds help.
@ContraryMaryMary Congratulations! Sounds like you had an excellent run!
@PastorVincent Sorry you couldn't get the sink fixed. Guess it's time to call a plumber.0 -
We discussed dreams a good bit in one of my graduate school classes and how to help clients to process them. You have the person recount the dream several times, trying to pull as much detail as possible. You then see if anything is similar to something really going on. For instance, with the train tunnel dream, the fact that the train never comes if you don’t step out could indicate anxiety about making a change in your life. That is pretty general, but a start of how I would help a client process a real life issue. Of course, dreams are the brain’s way of filing away all of the information we have obtained during the day, so sometimes a mix of strange things can be just that and maybe mean nothing at all.
I ran 4 miles yesterday morning. It was cooler but still humid, so I was drenched in sweat at the end.

WooHoo @ContraryMaryMary! You got to run in a real race, with real people! Sounds like it was a great day for you!
@AlphaHowls you NEVER cease to amaze me! Be careful with the meds, and hope they are effective!2 -
Got a 4 mile run in this morning. Temp was 65F with a real feel of 71. Nothing to complain about compared to the heat a lot of you are experiencing. Didn’t really see any humans. Only one truck passed while I was running. Did a release and recover online session when I got back home. It involved torture with a tennis ball and the foam roller. Felt good.4

I ran 11 miles this morning. It was hot. I got out the door around 6:45 and it was already 80°F feels like 84°F. When I got home it was 83°F feels like 87°F. It is supposed to be over 100°F every day this week, so I guess that was the cool part of the day. It wasn't a bad run. I saw a fox and lots of birds. I only saw a couple of loose dogs but I was far enough away from them to easily alter my route. The last couple of miles were tough because of the heat, but I managed an average pace of 11:38 mi/min which is slower than usual, but still pretty good for me in the heat.

I got up early this morning to get my run in before virtual church. I didn't get out the door until 7:30, so later than I had planned. I just couldn't get out of bed this morning. The temperature at the start was 64°F and 94% humidity. Ended at 73°F and 73% humidity. So, that part wasn't awful. It actually felt cool in the beginning.
But, the run sucked anyway. It was just one of those days. My legs felt like lead the entire time. Then, at about one mile in my Aftershockz said "Charge me." They gave up at about the 1.75 mile point, appropriately while playing American Pie. So, I finished the run with only the music I could conjure up in my head.
Surprisingly, my average HR was 148. That's really good for me on an easy run. I guess consistency is paying off.
I am keeping my neighbor's puppy this weekend while they travel for a family member's funeral. She's a husky/lab mix - about 4 months old. She is just learning to walk correctly on leash and is failing most of the time. LOL Too much puppy energy for walking. So I decided to see how she would do running with me on the last mile. To be honest, I was hoping it would be a minor disaster, so I could go slower and blame her. Nope. She did great! She really seemed to love running. Never got underfoot or jumped up. She was pulling me faster on some parts and, the little show off was only walking fast and still going faster than me at some points. So, the last mile wound up being the second fastest. I've always wanted a husky, but I know they suffer from the summer heat. But, if I am still running when my current dog passes, which I hope will be many years from now, I may really consider getting a Husky or some other dog that likes to run. It was fun running with her and a distraction from my own breathing and plodding along. Tippy, my current dog, is believed to be a mix of Australian Shepherd and German Shepherd. So, she is really fast in the short run, but isn't into it for the long haul.
Anywho, I got in my 6 mile run and 1 mile of walking, ate breakfast and took a shower, and was only 5 minutes late for virtual church.
Close up of Eshter
Further away so you can see her coloring better. I think she is beautiful.
My Tippy. She does enjoy hiking. I should do more of that with her.
And 5/20 walking.6 -

Well done on your run @kgirlhart
@teresa502 good job also. What is the release and recover? I need to do more rolling.
@quilteryoyo - ah, the day the music died OMG, what a cute puppy. I would not want a husky but they are beautiful dogs. Your Tippy looks so sweet too, with her little pack. I wonder if Stella would take to a pack.

I thought I was going to go hiking again today, but the plans fell through. I must say I enjoyed having a much more low key day. I was texting a friend to see if she wanted to go on a trail run and she invited me to do yoga in the park instead. I briefly considered getting a run in really quick before that but felt like that was going to ruin my relaxed vibe. I packed along some running stuff just in case and went to yoga. It was a really nice session although the sun beat down pretty intensely on the backside during downward dog, lol.
I decided that I was now sweaty and out anyway, so I would go do the trail run I had planned. The park is called Three Falls Woods and it's almost a hidden little wild area just outside suburbia with a bunch of criss-crossing trails. I have been only once before with Stella and never saw the Three Falls part because the trails are confusing. Today I parked on the other side of the park and I used AllTrails to navigate and found the falls (which I had been ridiculously close to before, it's not a huge park. The trails were fairly technical with rocks and roots so my pace was slow but I really enjoyed just exploring around. There are lots of interesting rock formations including the falls, and I was so tempted to try to climb them! There was very little water in the falls right now so you can kind of climb up them to an extent. I spent a lot of time for the little bit of mileage but it was a very enjoyable morning (and a very nice break from 10 hours+ mountain hiking). I will likely go back more for walking with Stella and viewing the falls when they have more water rather than for running, given the fairly short distances but definitely a great little set of trails.5 -
Thanks @Tramboman and @katharmonic. That trail woth the falls sounds lovely.
@ContraryMaryMary Congrats on your race!0 -
Feel like I started writing up today but not sure I posted it. Sorry if I’m doubling up...
Anyway, some amazing runs on here that I’m finding very inspiring! Well done @ContraryMaryMary on the race and @quilteryoyo on how fit you’ve become - consistency truly working for you!
I got 8 miles in this morning. Split into two because I stopped to talk to a friend. Have to say it’s a relief to have managed a longer run despite the heat.
Have a great end to the week everyone. X
