August 2020 Monthly Running Challenge

Ran 5.5km this morning. It was not hot for the first time in the season.
Mojo slipped this month in a major way, so much I'm not even going to bother to tally the total. Will do better next month. See y'all in the September thread.8 -
I ran 5 and walked 2.5 yesterday. I had some pain in my lower right leg, front, right above the ankle. I decided to stop there and give it some rest. Feels a lot better this morning, but I will probably hold off running for a day or two and so a short walk or just strength training.4

@Teresa502 Yeah for getting the HM done in those conditions. It was brutal yesterday morning. Love your pictures. Lovely ladies getting it done!
@katharmonic Yeah for meeting your goals and for taking it a little easy the last couple of days. Rest is important.
@martaindale I wondered where you have been. Glad you are still running. This thread can be a little overwhelming at times. But, I love all the people here and they are so supportive.
Congrats to all who met their August goals and to those who struggled, but kept going anyway.

may or may not run today
I dropped off my foster in Madison yesterday. brought speed demon with so we could explore a nearby state park. Governor Dodge State Park is gorgeous and huge. 2 lakes, one actual dog beach-like an actual beach, not just a section designated for dogs with no beach, or benches.
there are trails for hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. we took a trail that was partially for horses too but we didn't run into any. i wish we had run into a horse. i wanted to see how she'd react.
the sand on the trails made the run feel like a beach run amongst the trees and up and down dunes. it was challenging. it didn't photograph well. but in person, it was beautiful. i'll need to go back. maybe during fall
we did about 6 miles.
she was hot she beelined to the stream. jumped off the edge and in. i almost got pulled in. lol10 -

I'm about 10k short of goal for the month, but already ran 18 something today and just wasn't feeling it, mostly due to travel, stress and lack of sleep last night. The headache and upset stomach went away about an hour into the run, but then started to come back towards the end. So I probably overdid it and will now relax a bit.
I have a half marathon(!) during the dates that were mentioned for a possible tribute for Pastor Vincent, so I can commit to that distance for whatever challenge we come up with.
August goal 100 miles
I am OK with being short this month, because of all the cycling, swimming and traveling I did
See you in September!8 -

2.1 miles this morning. Planned on 3 but neither the dog or I really felt it. Shadow did a slow .75 or so with a break at the park to sniff around and eat grass. Dropped her off and planned to do the rest but just wasn't feeling it.
I think that means I close out August at around 46 miles. Planned was 80. 🤣 I had high hopes I wouldn't give into the heat this year.6 -
@Teresa502 thank you, they are keeping me motivated to get out there.
@RunsOnEspresso I got an email today that my Scooby Doo swag was on the way5 -
@Teresa502 @katharmonic @skippygirlsmom And anyone else I might have missed - Congrats on the races and it words of @PastorVincent Well Done!
Did 6.45 miles today - if I had known, I would have walked the .05. Ha.
During one of the hills again I though of @PastorVincent who always said it's the effort on the hills and not the pace....
This run was much better than the last few have been outside - helped that it was overcast, 74F with dewpoint 69. Humid, but better. Finished August with about 112 miles. Moving on.6 -
My progress on the Space Race 400K so far is 79.664 miles (out of 284.5) Arrgh! I thought for sure that I had it at 80 even. This will end my August unless the brutal heat index lets up and I walk at lunch time. See you in September!5

@wandavaughn I'm doing the Space Race too, I'm at 62 miles. If it makes you feel better it's only 248.5 not 284.5 miles almost 80 is great for 2 weeks.2 -
Just watched the funeral. That was great that they put up the video for us far-away people to watch.
Love God, love othersI also just wanted to say that like @PastorVincent I'm also a church worker with a similar background to his... so if you watched the funeral and want to talk about any of the spiritual stuff all those people were talking about, feel free to send me a MFP friend request and we can talk via private message.9 -
Thank you @polskagirl012

Congratulations to everyone who ran in the summer heat! Whether you made goal or not you are awesome!
Wrapping up August! Got in a one mile warm up with Hobbes the Vizsla and a 4 mile run in the cool cloudy morning. Have to take advantage of it now while I can because by the end of the week it is going to be blistering hot again 🥵 Not looking forward to it but hopefully it only lasts a few days! I am ready for some Fall running!

Got 5 miles running and a walk on trails this morning. First 5 miles without a walk break since injury, fingers crossed! Icing my knee just in case.
Soooooo humid. 81 dewpoint.
While I was running a falling pecan hit me right in the nose! Ouch! Husband says, “Well it’s not a surprise, if you rolled a die like in d&d or something your nose would have the largest percentage chance devoted to it...” hardy har har. Fortunately I know he likes my big nose.
Right after we finished I looked like I had just jumped in a swimming pool! This is a quick dry tech shirt!
Back at the car, covered in salt and bugs. So many bugs. So many. I needed windshield wipers for my sunglasses.8 -
Oh forgot to mention, that is it for August. I didn’t have a goal apart from not hurting my knee but got 102 miles including walking and 51 running miles. Nice to be running regularly again. See you in September!7

Hahaha Now THAT would be a story!

A falling pelican to the nose would be much more of an event. Glad it was just a pecan.
@martaindale sorry the sad circumstances brought you, but great to see you pop in!
Great job everyone - sounds like some serious heat out there still. We had another cooler day here and it's starting to give some real fall vibes. I love that, but I'm not ready to move so fast toward the inevitable "after-fall" time that shall not be named. The office person at my doctor's office told me to enjoy my summer today and I was pleased by that optimism that we still had a bunch of summer left.

I finished out the month with one last 5k - not nearly as fast as Saturday's attempt but it was more enjoyable. I waited until after work and ran from there. Or close to there - I drove down to a park nearby so I wouldn't have to run back up hill at the end. I did a simple out and back along a divided street with decent bike lane shoulders, parts of which I was pleasantly surprised to find had recently been repaved. With the pretty nice weather and an entertaining podcast it was not a bad run, despite how much I didn't want to do it when I started.
So that's August! My lowest August miles in the 5 years I've been tracking - because no September or October races on the calendar. As PastorVincent said to me, it's like a whole taper year!
See you all in September!6 -

I read about Pastor Vincent last Thursday and just have not been able to form words. He got me through my first marathon with "left, right, left, right, repeat till you get to the finish line."
This month was about surviving heat, humidity, poison ivy and a bout with gout. It has been emotional and stressful with COVID 19. I do not welcome the cooler weather; I do not like being cold. Both Pastor Vincent and MobyCarp helped me get out in the cold to keep running outdoors in winter. Even though I do find some of the humidity oppressive, I prefer it.9 -

I am the same way. As much as I complain about the heat and humidity, I really prefer warm weather over cold.2 -
I just want it to be Fall or Spring all the time...😁
@AlphaHowls - I remember the "left, right, left, right, repeat till you get to the finish line." too. We'll just all be here to keep reminding each other of that and how to get through one step at a time. I am amazed that you were able to complete 540 miles given all that you were dealing with in August!, especially so many days of HM+ - WOW!4 -

Someone from the group said on Facebook that we should get that put on T-shirts.4
