I had noticed it was oddly quiet.
How do you mourn someone you never met, but talked with regularly, who was an inspiration and always had the best advice? "do as I say, not as I do".4 -
I am/was way behind on the posts here so I went back to read thru them. One of the last posts he made was about the restaurant being asked to not put onions on his burger because he was allergic and they did anyway. That was on Sunday. I hope he isn't gone because someone at the restaurant screwed up and put onions on his burger. I am pretty sure he also had mentioned at one time, an underlying heart problem. Regardless the cause 45 is too damn young!8

@kgirlhart So glad your dad is doing better and enjoyed his birthday video chat! Hope he gets back to rehab today.
Welcome @WandaVaughn ! We're a chatty group, so be prepared.
I saw about @PastorVincent on another thread. I can't believe it. So sad. I'm also totally shocked and devastated. My heart goes out to his family. @Camaramandy648 Maybe you can reach out to his family on FB to let them know how much we all cared for him and are devastated to hear of his passing.

Just logged in to post about today’s run, can’t even think at the moment because of the news. How? It feels like death keeps happening to the best of us!7
-
That's shocking and heartbreaking. 😢4
-
I just can't believe this. I'm beyond shocked to read of the loss of @PastorVincent. It's so incomprehensible that he's no longer here with us, I can't imagine what his family is going through and my heart goes out to them.
It's so sad that we've lost members of this thread that has been such a community, and especially that they have been such leaders of encouragement and example to us all. I feel a real loss as I'm sure so many of us do. Virtual hugs to you all here. I know I need a little time to process but I'm sure we all want to reflect and honor him in some way. For tonight, I will just think of the way he was always here to give his two cents and cheer us on. We will miss you, PastorVincent.6 -

I will. Yes.
My heart is so broken. So, so, broken. My dog is at my feet because I am crying. My kids keep coming to give me hugs. I don’t understand why i am so devastated. It’s just so very crushing. When the person you want to tell, “Hey, I did it!” Every time to accomplish something and you want to tell them it’s because they believed in you. Every. Single. Time. He was my friend. Really my friend. Dammit. This is horrible.
I will reach out to his wife tomorrow. When I am not so emotional.6 -
I came in to read as I haven’t felt like posting since my cousin passed. Now this. Omg, I can not absolutely not believe this. @PastorVincent was one of the first to welcome me here, and his advice! And his sense of humour! I can’t. I’m devastated. How, how, how? What is even happening. He was just here.5
-
@hamsterwheel6 I know. Same.
@quilteryoyo I decided to go ahead and write to his wife. I hope this is all okay with everyone. Here is what I wrote:
Hi, Kristi!
You don’t know me at all. I am writing on behalf of the entire My Fitness Pal Monthly Runninga Challenge group. Vincent ismy friend on Facebook and I saw your post, so I was able to share the news of his passing with them.
We all wanted to let you know what a light he is to us. He still is. He was a friend, Coach, mentor, counselor, comedian, and pastor. We all love him so much.
As well, we are so deeply sorry for your loss. Everyone is concerned for you and your son. He loved you two so deeply. I am sure you know that. We are so, so, so very sorry for what you are carrying now, as well as the grief. I know that I am not alone when I say that there is almost nothing we wouldn’t do for you and your son. Should you have a need, please do let me know. There are so many of us and we are all over the world- we can make something happen.
Your husband was my friend. So much my friend and so much my mentor. I cannot imagine how you must be feeling and I, personally, am so sorry. My heart is breaking for you and your son. Even my kids know about Vincent and they keep coming to give me hugs while I am bawling over packing their lunches. That is to say - I truly cannot imagine how you must feel if this is how I feel. I hope that makes sense.
My runs for the coming weeks will be in memory of Vincent and in honor of you and your son.
With so much love,
Mandy and the My Fitness Pal Monthly Running Challenge group18 -
Just woke up to the news. I have no words. It's like the floor just disappeared.7
-
Beautiful words @Camaramandy648. I’ve just woken up in London and read the news about @pastorvincent and I feel sick with shock. He was the backbone of this board. So much knowledge, unfailing support, brilliant sense of humour, and kind, judgement-free advice.
A devastating loss.4 -
Lovely words @Camaramandy648, thank you for this.
I headed out on my run today but had to stop on my doorstep for a cry first. I can’t believe @PastorVincent is gone. The weather cried too. In fact it was a bigger slobbering mess than I was - with hail to boot.
I thought a lot about Vincent while I ran, although my programme called for 600m super-threshold repeats so I couldn’t do much but run and breathe during that.
However, the 3 minute rests between were filled with thoughts of him and his family. We were virtually the same age, in fact he was a year younger than me; way too young to die. And his wife - widowed too soon, I can’t imagine her grief. And his son - too young to lose his dad. And he loved them both so much.
I just can’t fathom it. Life is so cruel sometimes.8 -
Nicely worded @Camaramandy648 - I would suggest maybe giving her the link to this group if she wants to check it out, as well as the Strava group and the FB page. She may take comfort in all the friends he had 'virtually' from this group.3
-
Thanks for writing that @Camaramandy648 . Put into words the things I didn't know how to say.3

This. I suspect that he talked about us with her, and if she wanted to drop in, we would be here for her.1 -

My news feed freaked me out by telling me he logged in for the xxxx day in a row earlier, so maybe she or his son are reading. I hope they are/do, so they get an idea of how much we all appreciated him. He was such a wonderful person, I hope they can at least find some small comfort from knowing that he meant so much to so many.
My heart hurts, and only you folks can understand why. Why the hell is it always the good ones that have to go?

If his family are reading then I hope they can get a sense of what a massive part be played here - how respected and liked he was, and how horribly he will be missed by strangers from all over the world.
I ran 10K this morning and thought of him with every tough hilly section, every joyous breeze on a flat section, and as the sun emerged from the clouds. Rest in Peace @PastorVincent x2 -
Thank you for writing that @Camaramandy648, it was very nicely worded. I know Kristi and her son know how much PV meant to this group.
Kristi, we are all grieving with you. 💓5 -

Amen to that @TheMrWobbly . Thought about not finishing the challenge I’m in the middle of Or next month’s, but then I realized the best way to honor @PastorVincent and truly value what he meant to all of us is to actually listen to him. Keep going.3 -
You know what.
I have new shoes arriving today.
I didn't get fitted for this pair, but I read a lot about them and their stability and reviews etc.
They're not my normal brand(s).
I was really looking forward to the shoe porn posts and @PastorVincent 's response to my reckless purchase. The banter. Man.6 -
I keep thinking he will pop in amd post. It's just surreal not seeing posts from him after all these years.
Sunday will be hard. No Sunday Boston update. 😔5 -
@Camaramandy648 Thank you for sharing your beautiful letter.1

I have 11.81 for tonight’s portion of the sinister challenge. I’m working on my playlist for @PastorVincent . I don’t want to do it but I think if i were writing about how I don’t want to run because I am crushed way deep down in my
Bones, he would tell me that running and doing it anyway will strengthen and heal those bones.6 -
I still cannot comprehend this.5
-
I'm very sorry to hear of @PastorVincent passing. My heart is now heavier than my legs.4

I am just now seeing the news about @PastorVincent and I am heartbroken. He was such a big part of this group and I just can't believe he is gone. I know he had posted that he ran because he had underlying heart issues. I just don't know what to say. I would have dedicated today's run to him if I had seen this first, but I will dedicate my long run on Sunday to him for sure. I also think that we will need to do a group tribute run and I will definitely take part in that.5
