@Camaramandy648 With all of the running you are doing, I don't think you need to worry about food - except for eating enough. I still haven't managed to run a HM. I can't imagine doing a 54 k, especially after running so much the days before. I'm dreading my 9 miles this weekend. LOL

@Tramboman man, i am fueling, that’s for sure! I feel like i have just eaten and lifted all week. I did other things too. Like work and raise kids and run with my dog. But i don’t feel like ive ever not been hungry all week’2

Yesterday, I could not get MFP to let me into the community, so wasn't able to post my run. I was scheduled for Hill Repeats. It was cloudy and not too hot, because it had rained nearby. I changed clothes after work and started out for my run. But, as I was leaving the garage, it started to rain. It would have probably been pleasant to run in - actually wound up not really doing any more than a short sprinkle - but I just wasn't in the mood to get wet. I opted for a treadmill run.
Thinking that hill repeats would be really hard to control on the treadmill, I decided to run fast Fartlek's instead. I did 10 minutes easy pace, then 10 x (30 sec @ 7.0 mph/90 sec @4.5 mph), and finished with an easy pace. I ran 3.0 miles and walked 1.
Also 12.25/20 miles walking.
Took today as a rest day since I did the neighborhood shopping after work.5 -
You guys are the best. Thank you @Scott6255, @PastorVincent, @marisap2010, @quilteryoyo, @Teresa502, @skippygirlsmom, @Camaramandy648 and all the hugs too. I appreciate your support and I definitely hear what you are saying. I do need to give myself a break from some things, maybe from some people for a bit too.
@Camaramandy648 I think of things to tell this group too while I'm out running. It's a special thing to have friends all over the world to run things by and cheer each other on. Good luck on our huge upcoming challenge! That sounds intense but you are so tough, I know you'll do it! I would absolutely let myself eat whenever I was hungry given all that you are doing lately and how much you are and will be expending. I mean, don't eat all ice cream maybe but I'd for sure eat if I was hungry. Sounds like you've been thinking of protein but I'd be sure to eat a lot of carbs for energy too and that might help fill you up more too.

So I did have a lovely run with my friend this morning. It was nice and cool, really beautiful weather. She listened and commiserated but also had some good advice and has a really positive energy which helped. I took another friend out for a drink after work to celebrate some recent good news for her so that was also very nice.
I'm heading to bed early and planning to sleep in a bit extra. Hope everyone has a great weekend - I'm certainly going to try to make it a more low key one.5 -
I'm already dreading running this weekend. Low of 88 with 50% humidity. Still at least another month or two to go 😭😭😭4
-
August goal 100 miles (stretch goal 200 km)
Yes, I know it's better to NOT wait until noon when it's 31/88° to go for a run. It didn't feel too bad in the woods, and I know some of you would love to have these temperatures when you get up early in the morning to try to beat the heat where you are. My excuse for not getting out earlier? I slept in, and then I was SIGNING UP FOR A RACE!!!!!
There is apparently still a little bit of hope for the 2020 Half Marathon Crown challenge. All 5 races have to happen, and I have to complete them all. Any return to lockdown, or injury, or anything, and it won't happen. I'll do my best
Upcoming races:
Sept. 12 - Lubartów HM
Sept. 19 - Tomaszowski HM
Sept. 27 - Kraśnik HM
Oct. 25 - Lublin HM (no signups available yet)
Dec. 6??? - Puławy "Green Shoelaces" HM9 -
Got my 3 miles in this morning! All the storms from last night kept it a little cooler, but the humidity is still gross. Sweatyyyyyyy.
I should, fingers crossed, be on par to make my goal of 30 miles this month!8 -

Sunny and low 60s F this morning. Was close enough to easy pace that I called it easy. Heard somme birds I haven't heard since spring, so it won't be long until we're slogging through the snow and, for some of us, rocking our ice beards!!

@quilteryoyo and @katharmonic thank you for your reassurance!
@polskagirl01 YASSSSSS!!!! I’m so excited for you!!!!!!! That is SO fantastic! I slept late too - couple of friends wanted to go “let hair down” last night but I had already worked ten hours and driven my kids to meet their dad and I need to run today, so i went along for the walks and laughing. It was a fun time. Found a new area that I run past - it’s actually on the other side of the trees on a path I run, which i didn’t know existed. It’s really beautiful and has even more path - paved gravel kind of. So I took my shoes off and ran all over it, just to see what it would feel like. @PastorVincent - you are right - my feet are not ready, but it was FUN!
@Scott6255 I am rewarding myself for sleeping in because this is the best sleep I’ve had in a week! More coffee for me! Yay!
Thinking maybe a track workout today. Believe it - I haven’t run on a track since high school. I don’t even really know how far 800m or 5000 or 10000 is....
Oh guess what else. I read and watched in an interview yesterday that runners having eating disorders is actually really common. Who’d have thought? I don’t have one myself, to my knowledge, but I thought it was interesting.
Anyway. I hope you all have a great weekend! Keep going!5 -
@polskagirl01 that's exciting to sign up or actual races! I hope your whole series makes it!

I also slept in today, but didn't punish myself for it It was nice not to start until 8. I met two friends and it was a really nice easy run with good conversation the whole time. The weather was pretty nice but was starting to get hot, and the lake trails were starting to get crowded, so I was happy to finally wrap it up.
Feeling in much better spirits today, so thanks again all. Hopefully I'll get a little work done along with more good sleep to head into next week with a better outlook.6 -

I am behind... pages and pages but I have read, liked and hugged all of the posts... Lots of good running through some yucky and some nice weather though.
@rheddmobile - My partner and I are pretty evenly matched too. She runs more frequently with smaller distances than I do. Our route on the Journey of Reconciliation is from Nashville, TN to Louisville, KY and at 40 miles total we just crossed over into KY. I can't tell how many teams there are doing the 200 mile challenge, maybe 300, but I would estimate a third have only one runner. Some of those will likely hit the 200 mile mark on their own (they are ahead of my team already) but most of them I don't think will make it.
@quilteryoyo - I have been having MFP issues with the primary web site, food diary and community pages for over a week. I also could not get into the app at all. Not quite sure what they have been doing but whatever it is they are not doing it well.
@RunsOnEspresso - I am with you on the heat and humidity! Dh and I were talking that we don't remember it being this bad before. The heat is normal but the humidity for us is not.
@Camaramandy648 - I think there is a lot of pressure on young women runners to be at low weight/low body fat believing it will make them faster. Mary Cain is a perfect example at an elite level. More and more are speaking out so hopefully things will improve as they realize being healthy is much more important in the long run (pun intended).
I have been getting up at 6am to get out to run because it has just been so hot. It was cooling off though at least a little overnight but it still made the running so hard because of the high humidity that I am just not used to. As @quilteryoyo mentioned I called it a turtle running through peanut butter which is exactly how it feels. I am still struggling with the PM and hoping my body will get used to it. It just seems to think I need my heart rate to be faster than my body can deal with and it makes me feel like I am trying to run too fast when I am going so slow. Even with the 90/30 intervals I am having to stop to rest and get my breathing under control. If you saw me you would think I was trying to run speed intervals or something.
I got up early this morning again but it never really cooled down overnight and it was already 80 with 82% humidity and the dew point was 70. So even though I really wanted to run today I will do some cross training instead and get up and try again tomorrow.
I am hoping next week will be better. It's not getting quite as hot during the day (still in the 90's) but with clouds, from what was hurricane Genevieve off the coast of Baja, coming in, it is keeping it hot overnight. They are also worried it will create more thunderstorms with little rain and more chances for fires tomorrow and Monday. I can't wait for summer, this one in particular to be over!

5.1 miles this morning at my favorite park. There appeared to be some sort of teenage cross country team out practicing, so the park was a bit more crowded than usual. It was nice to have 70 degree weather for a change, although it was still humid.6

I am 5'11" with a 31-inch waist. Some people say I am a bit on the skinny side. AND YET, according to "race weight" calculators, I need to loose TWENTY POUNDS. They claim I will never reach my true speed potential unless I lose it and all that.
So, yeah, I can see that happening. I know better than to believe those calculator, but since they are normally backed by famous runners/coaches, I can see people falling for them.

I just got home from errands, and today is my long run. It is 93 currently. So yeah. July was the hottest ever recorded here with plenty of triple digit days. So yeah. Feeling the heat.4 -
I didn't feel like running out side today so I am cleaning my house instead 🙃4

5k run and a walk today. My partner and I transferred to the 100 mile distance (Washington to Richmond) and requested each other, now we just have to wait for the race to get around to sending us our info again.
I feel for all the people dealing with heat! We’re actually catching a break here at the moment, if I had gotten up early enough we could have run in temps in the 60s! As it was I slept in and it was almost 80 when we finished, but the humidity was only 70% or so. Still pretty warm for a run, but not unpleasant to walk in, and I didn’t actually feel like I had worn my clothes to jump in a swimming pool when I got home!
I may have to find another place to run, or at least not run on Saturdays. Today on our secluded railroad access road we were passed by what looked like a bicycle race. Must have been 100 bikes in tight formation with no masks filling the entire road for several minutes and breathing all over everything. According to an online thing that calculates the chances of someone in a particular size crowd having Covid, based on the zip code, that means there is a 99% chance we were just exposed to Covid. And since it’s evident that all these people are willing to break the county law on size of gatherings and mask wearing when social distancing isn’t possible, they are probably more likely to have it than other people. If I die someone go on social media and avenge me! Seriously though, I am high risk, I don’t need this kitten. Usually it’s just us and a handful of very polite cyclists and one or two elderly walkers who conspicuously cross the road to pass as far as possible. The one old dude we always see looked downright shell-shocked.
Then when we got back to our car the parking lot was completely full of soccer-playing urchins and their extended families. I mean tiny kids, the age where you’re lucky if they pay attention to the ball. Seriously? You couldn’t give up having your three year old play a full contact sport during a pandemic? And you have to drag their teenage siblings and your husband to see it? They had a snow-cone machine set up, right next to the sign that says no food is allowed at the park due to Covid restrictions!
So, no photo for today. I boogied on outta there.
In unrelated news, I saw a possum in my backyard this morning. He looked right at me and wandered off into the privet bushes.6 -
@AlphaHowls You are amazing! I don't know how you do it.
@shanaber I hope they are able to get those fires under control soon! Hugs for the PM issues. Hope they resolve soon or that the doctor can do something about when you have your next follow up. Good for you for keeping on getting out there and getting it done!
@rheddmobile I'm sorry that your nice quiet trail was taken over by so many people today. If it was a bike race, surely that won't happen every Saturday. Soccer on the other hand..... I think it is interesting the sports that are being allowed to be played right now.0 -
After last weeks 15 mile struggle fest I was nervous about today’s scheduled 17 miles but I felt pretty good in comparison. I felt like I could actually run longer instead of wanting to curl up in the fetal position and die! I met two friends for our 6 am start which meant that I had to leave my house at 5 am since we were running in a different city for a change of scenery. It was 68F at the start with an occasional breeze.
@skippygirlsmom - we need a race report so that we can live vicariously through you!5 -
@Teresa502 Glad you had a good run today. And, thanks for putting our RTY team over the 2020 mile mark!2
-
@teresa502 I’ll write one up tomorrow when I’m at a computer instead of my phone2

I think it is tough on kids who don't know better and it starts with HS coaches telling them they need to lose weight to be faster and get those college scholarships, then they get to college and the college coaches are all about them losing weight to run faster and if they manage to make it through all those years and are still running then the elite coaches start in until they just can't do it any longer because they aren't healthy and are injury prone.3 -

Went for a walk today. Managed about 2k before calf started to ache, and it stopped aching within half an hr of rest. So that's definitely progress.
Sigh
On another note, Anyone play Animal Crossing? I'm keen for friends!8 -
Headed out early for my long run this morning - since we're back in lockdown, the hordes are out on the footpaths so earlier is better. This has only been exacerbated by stunning weather after a week of rain.
As predicted, my coach upped the intensity on my run this week. It wasn't quite what I expected: 30 minutes aerobic pace, 45 minutes tempo (about marathon pace, ideally), then another 30 at aerobic. I'd had a great week running - fast was easy - and had done lots of yoga, pilates and gardening (squats!) and found today quite hard work - intensity level, or rate of perceived exertion, was good, but my pace was at least 10 seconds slower per kilometre than I wanted.
I think I've pretty much worn myself out. In fact, after lunch, when the rain returned, I returned to bed for a lovely long snooze.
Rest day tomorrow. Yay!10
