Regarding dishcloths ... we use these. They are perforated like paper towels and give you quite a large rectangle of cloth to work with. One rectangle lasts a week or so, stands up to one wash in the machine & hang dry, lasts another week or so, and is tossed.
A roll of 50 rectangles costs maybe about $5 ... so a roll can last almost a couple years.

I love all of the wording today, shagged, wanker, Heather and her blind man. It brought a lot of smiles and laughs when I really needed some smiles and laughs.
Pip - Ouch!
Amber - nice to see you pop in.
Faye - you have me laughing so hard about the censoring of the Biblical word for donkey. Thanks for he laughs.
Debbie - I’m so sorry you didn’t get a MIL that treats you well. It can be such a unique relationship.
Another day at work done. She must have though she did something wrong yesterday because she asked me once if we were ok and then had my direct supervisor ask me at least 6 times if I was ok. I just kept saying I was fine. My coworker that was supposed to be finished next Wednesday is not returning after today. Our boss called her (the coworkers) team in and told them that the new supervisor will be able to mentor them better and they shouldn’t communicate with her once she leaves. She then had her (the coworker) called in to HR and she was berated for having a negative attitude. She is writing tonight to tell them she won’t be returning and is contacting the labor board tomorrow.
I am just trying to get through it all with my head down and not lose my job.
Just had a thunderstorm go through, lots of rain.

They are ... and you don't have to worry about them getting smelly or mouldy or whatever.
We have a dishwasher so we really only use them for wiping down counters, sink, microwave, etc. If you spill something, you can sop it up with one, rinse, sop, rinse sop ... and then toss it if you want.

Tracey- I was blessed with an amazing mother in law the first time around. Yes she had some mental issues but I never saw it(we didn't see them all the time, they lived in Reno). She has three boys so having a girl around was such a treat for her. We would go shopping, she loved to shop for clothes. When she came out five yrs ago to visit the son that lives out here(my former brother in law), I got to spend time with her, take her shopping at Kohl's which she LOVED- even at 85 she still loves clothes and only shopped in the junior section. I got to tell her in person how much she meant to me. How much I appreciate her,how I appreciate her more now after dealing with current MIL for all these years. (she hasn't been my MIL for 30yrs). Now, she is in a home with Alzheimers/dementia so I will not see her again as she will not be traveling out here. I still send gifts, send cards(have one on my desk to send out tomorrow. I am closer to the whole family again, (no contact for 20 yrs)

Heather you look beautiful in your top. I just read that you said you don't like to show you arms. When I saw your picture this morning I thought wow if my arms were pretty like that I could wear sleeveless tops.

Regarding arms ... I start lifting weights in late winter to attempt to develop some upper body muscle. Which reminds me ... I need to start lifting weights!
It's been a month since my surgery so I'm hoping to be able to start exercising more. I hate huffing and puffing walking up a couple flights of stairs.
Also, I'm pleased to announce that by next week, it should be a little bit light when I get home. The daylight hours are increasing ... we've gained a whole hour! That will start making walking after work a possibility again.

Pip: Diet coke is a miracle rust remover! Who knew???
Michele: Look for Sourdough Starter/ King Arthur Flour. They have a tutorial that should be of help. I was given my first sourdough starter in the 1970’s. The elderly neighbor of a friend gave her the starter, and she gave some starter to me. I’ve had it ever since. Once you get started and have your first success, you’ll be eager to try new recipes. When you get your starter set up, be sure to make more every time you use some.
Rebecca: You are a food artist. That salad looks beautiful and healthful. I bet it tastes wonderful. WTG!!!
Snowflake: I’ve noticed the change in day length. It is starting to get a little bit darker each day. I’m quite a bit closer to the 45 parallel than you are. We combat the dark part of the year with bright interior lighting.
Today we got more of the dog’s pain pills and visited Fred Meyer to buy raw almonds in their health food aisle. I bought quite a bit and expect it to be around for months. I also love dried cranberries, and I got them earlier in the month at our local Safeway.

The only 2 on that list which have a hope of working for me are:
Focus on things you can control
Explore solutions to overcome your worries.
To manage my anxiety, I need to do something. Work on my assignment, work on an ongoing project, clean the house, do laundry. I need to tick things off my Things To Do list. Then I feel marginally better, marginally more in control.
I can't relax unless I feel reasonably on top of things ... and I haven't felt reasonably on top of things since 2015, but especially not in the past 2.5 years.

C-19 complaint:Chose not to go to line dance class tonight, as I am the only mask wearer of the 9 who show up. When Joe goes in for glaucoma and cataract surgery Thursday, they’ll ask him if he’s been exposed to anyone with C-19. How would we know? Didn’t want to take the risk since some of the gals come from across the border into California’s Del Norte county, and forget to maintain social distance. Del Norte county has quite a few more cases than Curry County. I will go to T’ai Chi as all of us wear masks AND keep 6 feet apart and none come from California. Guess I’m done dancing ‘til after Joe’s second surgery, but he’s worth it!

Katla I’d love to see your crocheted snowflakes. I had 6 at one time, but over the years the dogs ate them.

Pip owww!!! Diet coke for rust removal? Will try it on the chrome on Aunt Elsie’s stove. Thanks!
Annie hate it when that happens! Are there any used computer stores or local pc experts in your town? Our pc guy buys from ebay, reconditions, and sets up as needed. He sets to delay Windows updates as if it’s a business pc, and quarterly or twice a year I drop it off for a tuneup and updates. So far so good. Thanks for the Ravelry site… I think
Amber so relieved to hear from you, been worried!

Machka - Everyone here uses those disposable dishcloths, but they are considered bad for the environment. I am sinner, I'm afraid. I actually keep a more aesthetically pleasing and expensive variety of the same thing for when we have visitors! I am a bit weird in that way.
During the COVID the world has generated soooo much plastic and unrecyclable waste! Masks and PPE. Delivery from the supermarket is now in plastic bags. Previously they had switched to bag free. I'm sad.
Barbara - Good choice! Before my brother's operation the whole household of five people, including three young people, had to isolate completely for 14 days. Not going out at all except to the garden. No shopping, no dog walking. And my niece was the same. Coming from California and not wearing masks is asking for trouble, plus line dancing is vigorous and creates aerosol. Our dancing and singing has not resumed. Operation or no, I would stay away.
The kids are coming over today!!!!! Just for 90 mins, but we will see them! Socially distanced, of course.

Yes, I suppose, but the way they disintegrate after a couple washes, one wonders how much of them would be left after, say, a year.
M in Oz2 -
I was going to order pizza from the place around the corner for the kids, but my son said they had dinner plans so I'm just doing my homemade orange lollies, drinks and healthy snack bars. Might wash a few strawberries.
I'm a bit relieved actually. Didn't fancy schlepping to the beach in the heat. Didn't fancy cooking. So it's better. I hope we'll play boules with our new luminescent jacks. Might have to chuck a basin of water over them to keep cool. They are arriving at 4 pm.
Should get some relief starting tomorrow. Thunderstorms a poss. Might have to cancel our French Circle meet up on Friday as thunderstorms are predicted. I probably won't go as it's a long walk both ways. I'm still not getting on public transport. With very heavy rain a possibility, not such a great day for a stroll.
I also have our regular Zoom at 3 pm with my friends today.
My coolest room was 82° at 7 am this morning. Our bedroom must be 86° That's why I'm upstairs with the fan and the windows open. The bedroom windows are rusted shut. DH is quite happy baking in there. I do love him, most of the time.

Howdy folks. Just chilling after weekly shopping trip. Masks are now mandatory in NI and almost everyone was compliant in the store today.
JanetR/Amber: Good to see your posts again.
Heather: Have a lovely visit with your grands. Hope your friends Zoom goes off well. It’s such a useful way to keep in touch.
Language is fascinating, and can be very entertaining. We have several nations divided by a single language. Young schoolchildren here are very fond of collecting rubbers at the moment.
Machka:
I have a roll of those cloths, but only for emergencies. Not considered environmental friendly, as they don’t bio-degrade.
I wash, disinfect and RINSE kitchen washcloths after use, and they also go in the washing machine regularly. The rinsing is the key to stopping the unpleasant kniffs and whiffs.
Positive vibes to all.

I too had to read "blind man" several times! Lol! We use to follow a van from the blind store to work until they moved. It said " blind man driving "on it-lol! My husband asked why he couldn't drive for them😋 (he is legally blind and hasn't driven since 1995)

Good early morning ladies!
Barbara - crossing fingers Joe's surgery goes without a hitch and the cooties have stayed far away. Wouldn't it be great if a good vaccine is available sooner than later and by next year this time we can reminisce about how strange 2020 was? Here's a giggle:
Machka - that's right, your days are getting longer! I keep track of day length and we lost 20 minutes of daylight just this past week.
Tracey - sounds like the boss is approaching mental breakdown if she's not there already. You are so good at your job, I sure hope she moves on so you can remain there and keep enjoying it without having to constantly duck under the radar. Glad you've been able to spend time with the grands and Rodger is back to work for a while.
Terri - love your hair! You have inspired me to go longer and hope mine turns out even a fraction as neat as yours.
Barbie - I forgot to mention that T-shirt (and you) are looking very good! Your longer locks are becoming as well.
We are a smart-looking bunch!
Karen in VA - happy retirement from the salt mine So glad you were able to pick up the tele-medicine job to keep you in pin money, .
Rebecca - loved the photo of your dad, your salad, the birthday doin's for oldest son, and the always adorable photos of Athena.
Pip - Happy to hear you and Kirby are settling in. How's he liking the heat? And geeze, sorry to see you hit the pavement again. You are too far away for us PNW gals to kiss your owies. California girls, gear up! Pip's in town!
Update on dog teeth:So the pups went to the groomer yesterday and Tammie took a look at Rosie's teeth and said "I can get most of that plaque off". Holy smokes, I'll say. They are now pearly white and I don't see any evidence of gum retraction/disease. Tammie must have really went to town with brushing - Rosie ate gingerly last night, I gave her a CBD treat and she conked right out. Still doesn't solve the mystery of front teeth falling out. Tammie said she's seen that before.... in schnauzers Old Sophie the schnoodle's teeth are much cleaner too, I'd say 80% of her plaque is history. The trick will be keeping them that way on these pups.
Anyhow, it will be interesting to see what the Vet says when Rosie goes in to see her next week.
I've found a new TV series on Prime to binge on: The Republic of Doyle set in Newfoundland. Like it a lot!
RE Dishcloths - I don't use them, they turn sour too quickly. I'm a kitchen sponge girl and work some bleach cleanup through it every day or two. When it gets too shabby it goes into the box for the cleaner.
Machka - I do like the idea of using those wipes you have for sopping up messes and wiping the counter tho, will see if I can find some around here. Neat that they come on a roll.
So I don't knit-crochet any dishcloths. But I do like to kill time crocheting potholders. I found skeins of variegated yarn on sale years ago and it's always fun to see how the patterns turn out.
Going to be doing some cooking in the next couple days so I don't have to heat the kitchen this weekend when we'll see the mid-90's. Lentil soup today, and meatloaf tomorrow. I have some blue/purple? potatoes I want to cook as well - I put potting soil in a half whiskey barrel, stuck in some of those seed potatoes and actually dug a fair amount of potatoes last week. Trying to think of ways to prepare them where they won't lose their color.
OK peeps, going to close for now.
Make it a fabulous day!

I dealt with the mother-in-law from the depths of Hades for 28 years. Called her “The Voice of Doom,” because if she was calling, someone was probably dead. It was the only kind of news she liked to share. My now-ex-husband told me she was mad the Christmas after I left him—because I didn’t send her a card. She died a couple of years back, and is probably telling the Devil he put the butter in the butter dish wrong now.

I know you’ve gotten plenty of advice, but my own experience keeps me far away from knitting, and strictly crochet for yarnwork. Every knitted piece I’ve ever tried, even just a flat, long scarf, ends up being a snarled sweaty ball of stress with yarn tied around it. I’ve been crocheting since I was 12 or 13, though.

Hope Joe’s surgery goes well and the cooties stay far away…

Re: Dishcloths
Once every couple of years, I buy the 24-pack of white cotton terry paint rags you can get now at Walmart for dishcloths and use them for, well, everything, but especially for swabbing down counters, etc. They head straight for the laundry at end of day, and into the next load with bleach and/or ammonia. Have scrubby sponges for when those are needed, and they go straight in the dishwasher at the first sign of going sour. For triple redundancy, I also have flour sack dish towels for drying dishes--and my military experience has me using a wet dishcloth to wipe things down, and a dry flour cotton dish towel to dry them. Makes every counter and the sink shine.
I went through a spasm of crocheting cotton dishcloths as gifts for everyone some years back. My husband used an extra one as a kind of variation of a loofah sponge for the bath – those cotton threads will strip the top layer of skin right off, so they were a little rough or me, but he loved them.

Greetings from rainy Florida.
It has rained just enough so I may not have to water today. We are in the dog days of summer here in SFL where temperatures when they drop to the 80s fell like a cold front! I do love the weather here, but summers can drag on. All I can say is TG for central air!!
Heather – My saying to anyone who prefers the heat is, “It is easier for you to put additional clothes on to get warm.” I think I would have to make an investment for a portable air conditioner so I could have one room I could have some respite from the heat and humidity. Love the top and the splashes of color.
Rebecca – Happy belated BD to your son. The Athena pics are adorable!
Katla – I am so happy you had a nice ride. Hoping you do get on the trails for your next one.
Dentists – I have been blessed with fine dentists. No fear and feel very comfortable in the dentist’s chair. I get deep cleanings twice a year as I had the start of gum disease in my 30s. My periodontist and his wife practice together. She had to clean my teeth once due to a scheduling conflict. I let his assistant know I will never have her clean my teeth again because she worked on me like I was a cadaver. I have no problem firing a professional if I am uncomfortable or given unnecessary pain.
Debbie – I love your butterflies and ornaments. Beautiful.
Bleach and ammonia – Can find both here, but takes persistence. Bleach is now very expensive here (almost triple the price pre-SARs 19) and hard to find. I usually find it a Dollar Tree and who can beat the price there?!
Barbara – I liked the onion poster too. I am an onion lover so it does not matter what type it is – I do love Vadalias and can eat them like an apple! The outdoor orchids do very well here. No need to pamper them – they stay outside year-round with very little attention.
KJ – Sorry about the lack of feeling rested after your time off. I have been restricting my news time to online in the morning and read the updates I am interested in. The speculative nature of the news is just too much. I want “just the facts”. The old adage “ignorance is bliss” seems to be truer every day. But as a researcher and data junkie it’s hard for me to ignore things.
Lanette – You may want to try starting an additional basil plant or two by simply sticking some sprigs in to soil like me. I think it would thrive in the green house. I am amazed how mine is doing. I really do think if I keep it up (once the plant starts looking leggy) I will not have to buy seeds or another starter plant.
IX – Congratulations on your weight loss. Keep up the great work.
JanetR – Awww Jaxx – He is so precious. And, your daughter is a spitting image of you! Beautiful.
Tracey – Great idea of using the note app in your phone. I find using Word is easier for me and then posting from my laptop. The phone is great for one off comments, but I have lost small posts too using my phone! Sorry about your work drama. Staying under the radar seems to be the best strategy for you.
Pip – Ouch! Well, you’re getting to know the roads there! And, imagine what that Diet Coke is doing to everyone’s insides! I am really glad I never was a big soft drink drinker.
Amber – Glad to see you. Hope you get in to the home schooling routine!
Faye – I find using dashes are best when writing those “banned” words. We all know what A—means. 😊
Michele – Scared to make bread. If it flops how much of an investment is it? A few hours and dollars?
Kylia – Congratulations to your newest family member, Leo!
It’s officially time to start working although I have not had much motivation in that area since the beginning of this week.
Hugs to all,
SuziQ – SFL

Jaxx is such a cutie!
Lisa LOL You knitted a provocative visual for me, my dear. Forewarned. Sweaty balls of stress wrapped in yarn sounds like something that could definitely happen. But those gingham crocheted dishcloths…yes!
Bleach + ammonia in the same washload = chloramine gas. We like you way too much to read about you in the papers: “Arkansas Woman Found On Laundry Room Floor Dead From The Vapors”.
Barbara Hey, Wonder Woman, thanks for finding that gingham crochet dishcloth recipe! You are my hero. I might actually try it, as I love the look of them so much! They would brighten my day. If I become proficient (LOL) I could give them as small gifts, so pretty. I was reading that there are actually some cotton yarn blends that make excellent dishcloths - apparently they dry faster and are a little sturdier than 100% cotton - up to 20% bamboo or soy or polyester yarn is reportedly acceptable. I don’t know what I’m talking about, of course, so…
Lanette You totally captured the gist of my job transition. Very astute of you.
Going through the vetting for being able to do telemedicine in multiple states is so nervewracking. Maybe some other people here have gone through this sort of thing and can empathize. My goodness. Legal documentation for each name change, (for me that is 2 name changes). Fingerprints. All kinds of Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, Identification. Passport photos. Signed and notarized affidavits. I’m a hot mess at this point. Lots of places that would do photos, fingerprints, notarizing have stopped because Pandemic. I did get photos done at Walgreen, will go to one of my bank branches today for notarizing, and to a different county for fingerprints tomorrow. Lordy. The name change documentation is the biggest worry. I legally changed my last name in the 1980’s (after a divorce). I can’t find the paperwork after 33 years and 5 moves, and the county circuit court can’t find it either. I have asked that they look again. They have to look at microfiche that’s stored in a basement in a different building…Sigh...

Frog Update - I love these little night frogs that live in my plants and wind chime. I had to replace the wind chime a few years ago and the frogs were not happy. They are finally starting to move back in.
The first two pictures show one of the courtyard frogs making his way to the wind chime. The third shows his/her buddies waiting for his/her arrival.
I just think they are so darn cute!7 -

SuziQ – SFL
Yeah, but additional clothes are uncomfortable. My preferred outfit is shorts, underpants, and tank top. That's it.
It's quite chilly here now and I've got to wear all sorts of layers and things but I've got to be so careful. Ever since I had measles in 2016, the least bit of scratchiness in clothes is really incredibly uncomfortable, as are too many layers ... so hard to get the layers just right.
Me feeling nice and comfy just before Christmas 2019.
But my mother has a portable air conditioner. She isn't fond of the heat and doesn't have to use it very often but it comes in handy now and then.

My son just rang to say he had mistaken the hour of the dinner reservation and they are booked in for 5 pm. So they would have to come mid afternoon when it's too hot. So we've moved it to tomorrow.
I'd already been out and bought strawberries, juice, health bars etc, but there is nothing I can't keep until tomorrow. DH actually put up the parasol. Parasols are for wimps in his opinion. Nice to see it making a rare appearance. And the extra garden furniture. He's always putting it away! Grrr!
The only trouble with tomorrow is that there might be a cloudburst. We can retreat into the dining room with the doors open and socially distance. My son was very happy with my pizza idea and said he would collect them.
I'm OK with the new arrangement. DH has to walk into town this afternoon to see if an optician can mend his glasses. A tiny little screw fell out yesterday in the deli. No one could find it. Otherwise he will have to send them off for repair.
