Tina No on the Grand Marnier! It is still unopened and I will probably regift it, but first, I must remember who gave it to me. The only hard stuff I can appreciate is brandy and only one shot for gargling at bedtime and 1/2 shot in the AM in coffee hot chocolate mix, my poor girls mocha with a bit of sass.2

I am back. So we had a little excitement at our house yesterday. I was relaxing in the hot tub contemplating getting out when our house alarm went off! Nice to know it is loud, but really!? I jumped out of tub and ran to the garage to put in the code. BTW- I should have said I streaked to the garage. It is hard to run with a 80 lb dog trying to hide between your legs! Steve (husband) must have accidentally hit the panic button in his pocket. Its a good thing we live in the country!
I had plans of things to get done this weekend, but Steve had other plans. We went to KY on Sunday to check out the situation at the farm. The last buyer backed out. The man that my MIL had living with her for 20years has been renovating the farm house for 20 years. It is still a mess! He needs to leave and let us get it finished up. The last time I was down there was 10 years ago and the house looks the same now as it did then. Really? Finish one thing and move on! Every room is in some state of disrepair. I hope something changes soon. It is almost 300 acres. Great for cattle, not good for crops as it is too hilly. If this family worked together we could keep it, but Steve nor I want to go down every weekend to upkeep any longer. We did that from 1998-2009. At that time the stuff the "man" was doing during the week was undoing anything we had done all weekend. Such a mess.

Pip- Love the buffet/cabinet. It does look different than the one that is shown on the website. I blame lighting. If you are not happy with it, you could add some light to where you have it placed or possibly throw a runner style rug under it to bring out the whitewash effect...
Facebook- Facebook lets me keep in touch with family and friends; but it can wear me down. There are times (like election years) when I unfollow people because I don't need or want the drama. My friend list is less than 150, so I don't really unfriend anyone; just unfollow them for a while. All of the drama surrounding covid has made me unfollow many, as well. I recently joined a "Memorial and Memories" facebook page for my alma mater. It is a page meant to pay homage to classmates and teachers who have passed, and also share memories and touch base with those who are still living. It is a page that encompasses the entire student body over the 50+ years the school has been around. SO...there are very young people (newly graduated) along with very old (first graduating class and some teachers). There is a bit of a kerfuffle over what are "proper" memories to share. There are some who had a "bad" high school experience and have posted the fact. People would comment on their post and run them down; just like high school. Then the page admin would remove the post. I have a problem with that kind of censorship. High school wasn't roses and post game dances for everyone. Anyway, I am thinking of leaving that page; because who needs high school drama after 50?
Instagram- I DO have an IG account. I have only posted a couple of things on there (mainly because I use my fb page almost daily). But I got onto IG only to keep in touch with my daughter who is posting more things there, than on fb.
Wringer washers- My grandmother had a wringer washer that had a crank to turn the wringer rollers. My younger sister had beautiful thick curly long hair...(you can see where this is going)...She and I (this was mutual consent) decided to wash her hair in the basin of the machine and put her hair through the wringer to dry it. Well, her hair got caught and twisted in the rollers and she got stuck. My dad had to cut her hair to get her free. I am sure I got spanked (although I don't remember that) and we BOTH got pixie hair cuts the next day! lol I guess my mom had had enough of our shenanigans. We were about 4 years old.
I have had no dizziness at all the past two days, and hopefully it is gone for good; knock wood. Ironically, the dizziness went away after a fun night in bed with the hubs. I think whatever nerve was pinched, got unpinched. DH now thinks sex is the cure all. lol Yes, I rolled my eyes when he came up with that one. Kids arriving soon. gotta scoot! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)6 -
Good morning ladies!
Following the Facebook discussion. What I use it for:
- get local news pretty much as it happens.
- get weather report from National Weather Service for our area.
- follow some neat groups on gardening, IF, cooking, positive thinking. Always enjoy waking up to those.
- our "produce" guy brings goodies from Eastern Washington twice a week and his list is posted the day before.
- local stores put up their weekly fliers. Plus most stores have FB pages which list their hours and I'm able to chat and find out if they have a certain product available without going into the store.
- getting timely information on events that might impact us such as upcoming road construction.
- keeping up with relatives, friends, co-workers, classmates. I actually follow very few people, and the ones I do follow generally post funnies. I have unfriended a few lately who have too much spare time on their hands and want to pick fights, but I don't need their fearful/angry comments intruding in my life - and these folks are all across the political spectrum.
My DH eliminated his FB account a few years ago, felt it was too demanding, and I feel that way sometimes too.
Cleaner coming today so need to start picking up.
Welcome new ladies, by the way!
Have a super day!

DH says that if he still feels the same way in a week, he will make a doctor’s appointment. Neither of us are convinced that they can do anything for it. Getting an MRI or an appointment with a specialist would be a VERY long job, if not impossible. My guess is he would be told, it's your age, and to go away and rest. We've read everything on the Internet and there is no real treatment. Time might help a little.
He is generally OK, but first thing in the morning he feels 'weird', and he is not confident of going out driving for long trips on his own. We will try the elevated sleeping.
Secretly I am worried about future cruises. He was always susceptible to sea dizziness in bad weather. I haven't mentioned it to him yet. Might have to do ones with lots of stops. That cuts out Iceland and Greenland, which I was looking forward to.

Age shouldn't matter. He has a head injury.
The internet doesn't tell us everything but perhaps this might help ... https://www.headway.org.uk/
These might be things your GP needs to be made aware of if he/she is not already ... https://www.headway.org.uk/about-brain-injury/professionals/gps/
And personal information for both of you ... https://www.headway.org.uk/about-brain-injury/individuals/
You've got time before you'll have to think about future cruises. Make sure you're both well enough to enjoy them, if they start up again.

It's national Brain Injury Awareness Week here in Australia and the theme for 2020 is
Brain Injury in the Community .
Brain Injury Association Tasmania: https://www.biat.org.au/brain-injury-awareness-week
Brain Link (Victoria): http://www.brainlink.org.au/events/71/brain-injury-awareness-week-2020
Brain Injury South Australia: https://braininjurysa.org.au/
Synapse: https://synapse.org.au/brain-injury-awareness-week-2020/
I've been watching/listening to live feeds and recordings of the events at work, while I'm working.
Meanwhile, down here in Tassie, our borders will remain closed until December 1.
So we are allowed to leave, but will have to go into 14 day quarantine to return. Therefore, if we're thinking of spending a week in Queensland to take advantage of the warm weather, we also have to factor in 2 weeks at home ... 3 weeks of leave for 1 week away.
Basically, we're being strongly encouraged to stay in Tasmania.
Doesn't matter ... my husband and I have to stay here anyway!
But as my course draws to a close (in October), we'll likely start travelling around the state. Long weekends here and there. I have so much holiday time banked because I haven't been able to take a real holiday in 2.5 years. By 2022 or 2023, or whenever we can visit Canada, we could be able to stay a couple months!!

I read fiction and memoirs. I have a book that I read at bedtime and in the bathroom and a book on the Kindle app on my phone so I can read with the light off in the middle of the night when my mind is racing with plans for the next day and I can't sleep. While walking alone or working in the yard I listen to either an audio book or a podcast on my phone. Some of the podcasts are about topics that interest me. I don't ever just sit and read except in the waiting room at a medical appointment.
Barbara, glad things went well for your husband.
The grind your own peanut butter machine is operating at QFC again. Unfortunately we have five jars of Adams peanut butter in the cupboard so we won't be grinding our own again anytime soon.
I have been eating zucchini with my supper every evening. I've given some to my neighbors and am so far am keeping up with the supply.

HEATHER Please read this as it explains what all of your DH's symptoms reveal. He already had a vestibular weakness causing the BPPV, but that fall caused permanent damage to his already weakened inner ear in my opinion. Before any cruises or flights, experiment to see how he does. Things like walking along the beach while watching the ocean. Maybe a short trip on a small boat. Try an elevation change like a quick drive up a mountain. How does he do on a fast elevator ride? See how a 2000 meter change in elevation affects him before boarding a plane. The problem with something like a flight is the time he would have to ride it out before getting off. During that time he could open a Perlmpth Fistula and his current state would be the best day scenario for many years if not life. Google Perlympth Fistula. I get up with a bit of imbalance every morning and have for the last 20 years. It is a way of life for me. I have a good idea what your dear dizzy husband is experiencing and hope I can say something so it doesn't get worse.
Here is info from a Neuro-otologist. Getting into seeing a Neuro-otologist is very expensive and usually leads to the same result and therapy you can get for free unless he has a tumor. I see you mentioning nothing that would indicate that. Please read this medical paper. You know his history and current symptoms and all a specialist would do is make a diagnosis based on that after running about $20K up for testing. To simplify, "DH has BPPV, he fell and banged his head causing a TSUNAMI of inner ear fluid to smash against membranes."
The diagnosis of TRAUMATIC endolymphatic hydrops is made by a HISTORY of trauma, such as barotrauma or a BLOW to the HEAD.

SuziQ: People here are generally being careful & but there are enough who refuse to wear masks in public to make new cases likely. Safeway won’t let you in the door without a mask. Same with the IGA store here in town. Walmart is not as vigilant, but most people are complying with wearing masks. Our county has had its first Covid 19 death. I don’t know the circumstances.
Kylia: Enjoy your soak. The wrinkles go away soon enough once you’re out of the water.
Barbara: I’m happy to see you posting again & very happy that Joe’s surgery went well. Good news!
Lisa: We don’t have coffee tables, either. They get in the way. We do have a pair of decorative metal barrels that sit beside the couch and chair. They hold blankets & pillows for the occasion that someone wants a nap.
Heather: I hope your DH gets better on his own. It doesn’t sound like the medical people are stepping up to find out the cause of his morning weird spells. Does he wake up dizzy or confused? I would consider that worrisome. Machka has posted some links. I hope they lead to better understanding of what is going on for Johnny.
Our son and daughter in law want us to come and visit. They envision us traveling in our RV. DH is not doing as well as I’d like and I’m encouraging him to talk to his doctors so we can make a sensible decision about the possible road trip. It would be a long one to get from Oregon to Virginia and back. I will not go by myself and leave him alone at home.
Today I am going on a trail ride with a friend.

Thank you Machka and Faye for all the links. I've read a lot of them. His symptoms so far are purely confined to a dizzy sensation on waking and an occasional feeling of being unsteady or 'tingly' in the head. His normal life isn't affected. He is so used to being super fit it is a bit of a shock to be human. He is still doing his exercises and 5k walks. He can stand on one leg.
I do worry about cruises and flights. We have nothing planned.
Faye - the idea of finding a mountain anywhere around makes me laugh. We have no mountain of that size anywhere in the UK. A small boat, yes, possible. I can't think of any handy fast elevators either! No skyscrapers! A walk on the beach watching the sea is a good idea.
When we go on cruises they are no fly. Local docks. But it might be a problem if he doesn't improve. Medical treatment is free in the UK, but the wheels grind exceeding slow, unless it is an emergency. He could do some of the eye/movement exercises to increase tolerance. I think Rebecca was doing those.

Machka - my FB is us d a lot like yours, I follow some genealogy groups, some NB groups about the area I’m from, some crafting sites. I also follow a group here that I use for local happenings, I tend to scroll past that one a lot due to all the drama.
Last night my husband posted something that our son in law didn’t agree with. I’m sure that will be an argument at some point and I really dislike those parts of FB. I don’t talk politics, religion or other topics that cause divisiveness on my page. It’s all mostly family pictures, and positive memes.
I have all of the other apps too, it’s how I keep up with my girls and nieces and nephews. I really dislike Snapchat, but that seems to be how the girls want to communicate most.
Heather - my dad had dizzy spells and it turned out to be low blood pressure. They hadn’t changed his high blood pressure meds in quite a while.
I also think it could just be the knock on the head. When I had my 2nd degree concussion I suffered with dizziness for about a year and I was only in Grade 6.
Kylia - I have a friend that has torn their whole house apart and has projects in every room. My head would explode if I had to live that way. We need to do some renos but need some money before that can happen.
My husband has been looking at hot tubs, I think this is something I would like as well. Again, we need money to do it.
Kelly - I like your husbands idea of cures, maybe I’ll convince my husband of that.
Katla - I live just outside of Edmonton, in a small city called Leduc. Edmonton has a mandatory mask law in effect. One of the FB groups I follow have had a lot of people from Edmonton stating they are coming to Leduc to shop since they don’t have to mask. This is infuriating our town. We have kept our numbers very low, and Edmonton’s is high right now. Walmart Canada has mandated masks country wise as of Aug 12th. I suspect Leduc will be going with masks soon too.
I took the Grands shopping on Saturday with me, they were better adjusted than some adults with wearing a mask.
Last night Michaela went with me to the local grocery store. They used to have free slushies but stopped it during Covid. Michaela has been very upset about the lack of slushies and asked me last night when the “Nona birus” will be done and wanted to know who keeps giving it. I wish I could have answered her.
Well the Grands have been with us since Saturday morning. They will be going home today and I’m going to miss the noise. They are much easier to keep now that bedtime isn’t a battle. I think their Mom and Dad has a nice little trip away. I think they needed it. I have to put in a load of laundry and pack up their clothes. I expect their parents will pick them up later this afternoon. Today is supposed to be very hot. I am looking forward to it. I’m glad we are finally getting summer weather, we’ve had too much rain and cold last summer and this summer.

We went on a little trip over the last weekend. We went to where it was 118 degrees F/47.7 degrees C the entire 4 days we were there. Most of the time, we were in the lake. We had to be. There was a pool at the vacation home we rented and even the pool water was too hot. They should actually cool the water there, rather than heat it. My friend living in Arizona said the "kids" have ice block parties, where they go to someone's house with a pool and the "fee" to get in is a bag or block of ice that they dump in the pool to cool the water. I completely understand that now.
The mister, however, decided to try wake boarding and ended up re-injuring his back. So, he's back to square one after nearly feeling completely better after 5 months. I was smarter, didn't wake board or ski, and I'm still on the upswing. The swimming was good for my injuries.
As for masks, there are no mandatory mask laws there. However, most of the stores and other places we went into had mask required to enter signs on the doors and people inside were wearing them. We were a bit surprised by the behavior, though many of the patrons were from other states where it's more accepted to wear masks. But, I was happy to see the stores requiring them.
It was good to get away. I was getting a bit of cabin fever.
Debbie, I sure hope the reason that boy got shot at that store was not because of a mask. That would just make me incredibly sad. Interestingly, I haven't heard a peep about that on the news. Are shootings like this just getting to be so much of the norm that they don't even make the news anymore????
Beth - I have no words with regard to your son's situation. I cannot believe the negligence in some people.
Margaret - I am glad Drew seems to be helping you heal. Pets are good that way.
Hugs to all of those in need.

Heather Oh dear, no mountains. Maybe a cruise to Switzerland for a fast ascent of the Matterhorn might be a good test. You would get your vacation and he would get his head tested. A win-win for all.1

Hey, that sounds good. Maybe some orange peel zest with it and a touch of hot paprika. Maybe I will try marinating some chicken tenders in the liqueur. When I get back from my illegal haircut I will research some orange sauces.

Conversation with Michaela
Michaela: Does your jewelry box have a ballerina in it?
Me: No.
Michaela: How do you listen to music?
Me: I don’t when I’m in my jewelry box. My Dad made my jewelry box for me.
Michaela: He did? That’s so nice of him, did you thank him?
Me: Yes it was nice, and I did thank him.
Michaela: It’s “booful” (beautiful) you should tell him.
She went on to ask me about my Dad and I told her that he had passed away before she was born. She said “oh that’s so sad” and asked me how he died. I told her he had cancer. She then told me she was sorry, that I must miss him. I agreed that I did.
I’m sure he heard that conversation.

We’re discussing a trip east to see our kids. The plan was to go in the motorhome. Now DH doesn’t want to use it & would rather have a much smaller one. I am frustrated.

SuziQ ~ This is not political! I am just wondering why the broken tail light driver would have been shot unless he was doing something to bring about the shooting. Would like to know the whole story.
MRI showed no masses or tumors so guess all my worry over the blocked feeling in my ear must be related to Old Age. Ugh!

I woke up planning my meal..... So at 10:30 am I sauteed red onions, maybe 2 oz of kielbasa sausage, 1/2 of a small zucchini, 1 boiled potato from last night's dinner, and wild rice. Added my chicken stock. It was lovely. That should hold me all day. I might have something at 3 pm though. The best thing is I ate what I know would fuel me.👍
Have a great ladies!

A shout out to you, because you are an inspiration for so much of what I'm doing right now. You've taught me that the only thing stopping me was me--and I needed to internalize that very deeply. It's impacting what I eat, how I exercise, and whether I'm writing. Every one of us brings something to this monthly table where we all sit and engage in serial and ongoing conversations, but I appreciate your no-nonsense attitude and wanted to let you know.
Three solid hours of yard work, weed-eating and push mowing in the steep areas, put me well over my 1,000 calorie mark for this morning and will once again ride out the afternoon heat inside. I'm keeping the air conditioner around 78-80 degrees, but it sure feels cooler than it is outside.
