Just hit the wrong button and lost my post.
Great racing @RunsOnEspresso and @T1DCarnivoreRunner and how fun that you got to meet @Skippygirlsmom ! I want to meet you all IRL too
@Martaindale beautiful shoes! I hope I got the tags right while trying to remember who posted what.
Yesterday I just wasn't feeling it. I didn't even want to run. So I didn't. Instead, I talked to my awesome husband about stuff that was bothering me, chilled around the house, cooked and baked a failure of a pumpkin cheesecake. It tastes good. Not guest-worthy. Darn, now we have to eat it ourselves.
Today I woke up in a completely better mood and best of all ready to run. I needed to do my weekly speedwork, and figured out that about a mile from my house, there's a flat-ish, straight-ish bit of access road in the woods that is almost exactly 400 meters long. Perfect for speedwork for preparing for trail races - just enough slippery rocks, mud & leaves to keep you on your toes, but still be able to push the pace a bit. There were a number of other people out walking, cycling, mushroom hunting. It was a good challenge but I managed 12x400m plus easy running there and back.

Despite trying to keep up while life conspires to keep me on the bench, I’m a bit lost!
However, (I think) I have signed up for Team 2 in the Asics relay in November. The leg 5 10km I believe.
Will try to salvage what’s left of October before then!

I’ve skimmed through the last few days. Hugs to all who need them, and high-fives to everyone who has had races and excellent runs!
Spent the last few days at my parents’ house following my dad’s discharge following surgery. He was doing much better than expected. I got roped into putting together and moving furniture for them, as well as setting up a new tv with all of the associated gadgets. I got in one short run while visiting.
I was planning to run this morning, but I have had an awful stomach ache since last night. I am going to do a few things around the house instead and hopefully feel like it this afternoon. I want to try out my new Vivoactive!10 -

@Scott6255 No such thing as a terrible round of golf. Some are just better than others.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles - Completed 10-11
Stretch goal: If I can average 169k per month, I can run 2020k in 2020
Run the Year Team: Pavement Pounders -- Completed 9-29

@Teresa502 Great race, especially after running 5 miles before it started! I'm going to have to keep some of these "local" races I didn't know about in mind for the future.
@HonuNui Hugs to you. Glad you do the run in his memory. Way too young to die. Cancer sucks!
@Scott6255 That is an awesome pace. Glad you had such a great run!
@shanaber You can definitely run/walk the race. I never intend to "only" run a long race, or a short one for that matter! I'm trying to decide about signing up for the AF HM again. It isn't until September, but they open registration on Jan 1. It is their 25th anniversary run too. It would give me something to shoot for.
@noblsheep Glad you got the race feel for a little bit. Hopefully things will get better and we can all get back to in person racing sooner rather than later.
@mbaker566 Finn is adorable. I want him! Cute that Lavender decided Speed Demon was her friend. Maybe they will get to meet on another run.4 -
@polskagirl01 Glad you gave yourself a mental health day and had such a great run today. That's a beautiful place to run!
@marisap2010 Glad your dad did well. Hope the recovery is quick.

To all those who keep losing their posts, I hate that damned "done" button. I never use the forum in the app now, I only ever access on the website. Then I don't have the done button and it doesn't happen. I think the browser is so much easier. And looks almost exactly the same as the app.
I ran this morning!! Been a week, and calf was completely pain free before running. I did 4min run, 2 min walk. I got a bit of tightness right at the end of the last walk, but no pain at all after or with stretching or foam rolling.
So now I rest until Friday. Oh and I think i see my physio then... I may have mixed it all up.12 -
08/10 2.30 miles
10/10 2.38 miles
14/10 2.77 miles
16/10 2:60 miles around Stirling Castle in Scotland
18/10 2.11 miles another run in Stirling. Travelling home 2 Moro

Yeah, I'm in the browser, on my phone. I'm not sure what happened, maybe the back button, or sometimes if I go into another app, it reloads the page when I come back. I try to remember to copy what I have, just in case. I also quit using the app for the forums a long time ago and agree this is much better3 -

Follow the State of Franklin Track Clubs calendar (runtricities.org). The calendar is pretty sparse this year but hopefully after you’ve recovered from surgery there will be more local races. They are planning to have the Haunted Half on October 31. It’s n Blountville this year instead of Jonesborough but still promises to be a hilly route. Also been meaning to ask you if you know Bob Townsend. He’s very active in the track club and I think he volunteers at the same ball field that you do.

Ran “speedwork” yesterday which recently has meant 5k at anything faster than easy pace. But since the weather was cool and my husband was grousing about me getting a PR on my mile on Strava when he wasn’t around, we set out to run a fast mile. PR mile from two days ago was 8:44. Fast mile yesterday - 8:43!
So what I don’t understand is, the mile 2 days ago was easy and I didn’t even feel like I was trying to run fast. The one yesterday we ran hard, it felt much faster... and only one second faster? Granted there are some hills but it’s as much down as up. And I have run that same mile I’m 8:24 not too long ago, I know what a fast mile there feels like. It’s confusing. But anyway at least my husband is happy. And the best news is my knee is not complaining about the faster pace.
We waited until about 10 am to head out because it was 41 degrees when I woke up in the morning! Uh... I don’t even remember where my running clothes are for that kind of weather! I guess it’s about time to switch gear. But yesterday I stretched it one more day by waiting until the temp hit 50, and it was 64 by the time I got home, which is quite comfortable shorts weather! I plan to avoid running in the cold as long as possible.
So many persimmons all over the place! I fed some of them to a goose. Who knew geese liked persimmons?
I also painted my fingernails for the first time since March. No one is going to see them but me, but I needed the mental boost. Saw a crabapple tree which was turning colors and had leaves exactly the five colors of my nail polish all on the same tree!8 -
@Teresa502 I do indeed know Bob Townsend. He's a great guy. He and I did work together at the ball field, but they didn't play this year. I see him running around town all the time. I'll check out the calendar.
@rheddmobile Yeah for the fast pace mile!!! That's awesome on a hilly course. I know sometimes I feel like I'm running really fast and get disappointed by Garmin. Guess it just happens. I didn't know geese liked persimmons, but am not surprised. What does surprise me is that Tippy, my crazy dog, loves them!2 -

I ran 10 miles today. The temperature was comfortable at ~68°F, but it was really windy at ~15 mph. I debated running down the road I usually run on my long runs. Last week I had to change my direction 4 times because of loose dogs but I decided to go ahead and try it. When I got past that area and as I turned onto another street I was thinking how glad I was that I didn't see any dogs. As soon as I had the thought I heard panting. I looked down and there was a brown pit bull running along side me. I told him firmly to go home a couple of times, but he just looked at me and kept running. So I told him he could come with me as long as he didn't bite me. That's when I noticed his friend. This one was a white pit. They both seemed nice though and they just ran along side me. I thought they would turn back when I got to the highway but they stayed with me. After a while I decided to head back to where they joined me and see if they would go home. When I got back to that area they wandered off onto a yard and I guess they went home. They ran over 3 miles with me. I get annoyed when people don't keep their dogs in their yards. But I did notice that the white dog had a scratch on his shoulder so I think they went under a chain link fence. I'm just glad they were nice and they really seemed to enjoy our run.
I'm starting my new job tomorrow. I'm really nervous about it. It has been a long time since I started a new job.

@kgirlhart Speed Demon is notorious for diving under the fence. I've caught her digging where she thought I couldn't see her... to get a bunny.
Then she panics being out of the yard and runs around the house and back to the gate.
Unless it's the other side. They have a gate to the backyard they keep closed. And she gets stuck in their yard
What happened when I asked if she wanted to runFind my dog
@quilteryoyo Finn is up for adoption.... so...

Ordered me and speed demon our noxgear... got 35% off
Who is buying those personal speakers they are selling though? It seems generally looked down upon to not use headphones, right?
On the other hand, their "my dog is brighter than your dog" shirts are brilliant5 -
@kgirlhart Nice new friends you made on your run! They look fun
@mbaker566 personally I find it rude when people have music blaring for all to hear... and they do make headphones that don't block your hearing (anything "bone-conducting") and are therefore much safer, but as long as you aren't running next to me with your music on, I'll probably get over it5 -
I’m so excited. I’m off on a girls weekend on Friday with a couple of running friends. We’re headed to Rotorua to an event called We Run the Forest - a stunning trail run through the redwood forest - the clue’s are in the name! As it’s a week before my No.1 event for the year - the Auckland Half - I’ll be cruising the 12k event (well, sort of, coach has asked for 5:30 pace). Looking forward to the champagne in the spa afterwards and two days with no children!!!11

Ended up waking yesterday afternoon since I didn’t feel up to running.
Has anyone used the Garmin training plans? I decided to try to improve my 5k time since I am burned out on long distances, so I signed up for “Coach Greg.” Looks like the plan adjusts according to your progress each run, so I guess like Hal? I start today.7 -

@marisap2010 I have not tried the Garmin plans but I would love to hear what you think of them in the next few weeks. I like to change my plan up a couple times a year just to have something new to do. Always up for another option.2
-
@marisap2010 I think @RunsOnEspresso has done some of the Garmin training plans. I remember her talking about how she like the way they adjust in real time based on performance.
Pretty good run for a Monday. Decided to extend the run after about 4 miles since I was just starting to feel good. Was quite a bit hillier (is that a word?), but felt good to get a 10K done early in the week.

@kgirlhart Good luck with the new job today! You are going to rock it! Glad the pit bulls were friendly. They can be very friendly, sweet dogs. It just depends on the owner and how they are treated. I guess you can say that about all dogs though.
@mbaker566 I would consider taking Finn if my situation were different right now. But, I've decided Tippy and I like being a single dog, laid back, family. And, with surgery coming up, I just can't. Hope he finds a great home soon! I'm guessing Speed Demon was taking a rest day.
@marisap2010 I have not used the Garmin plans, but am interested to see how it goes.
@ContraryMaryMary Sounds like you have a great weekend to look forward to!

When my husband and I did the Starry Nights 5k last year (nighttime run through Christmas light display at the park) a guy near us was running with a speaker blaring Christmas music. I kind of enjoyed it for a while but then wanted to be in the still night time so we ran faster until we couldn’t hear him. And I heard some other runners complaining. Of course I couldn’t really object too much since I had bells tied to my hair!
I don’t usually mind other runners playing music and sometimes find it entertaining, like the very hardcore serious looking guy with military haircut who was running to Scott Joplin the other day. Hilarious. And there was a little bitty woman running to rap music with explicit lyrics which was also funny. But I want to be able to hear what’s around me, not just for safety but because I like nature. Of course if you are running on the street nature isn’t as much of an issue.2 -
Treadmill speedwork this morning, to get back on schedule of doing it earlier in the week. I'm also considering what to do about the now-officially-canceled race this coming weekend. I can go run the course by myself, in a mask, but I'm not sure I have a good reason to.

October miles: 63.1 (just 36.9 to go)
Saturday was nice, I slept in with the hubs, went fishing and caught lots of fish, went to a friend's cookout. (don't worry, we were all distancing and wearing masks and going through lots of sanitizer. The bonfire was glorious!) Sunday we had a lovely service and beautiful weather to enjoy during the afternoon.
BUT this morning I had to almost yell at myself to get out of bed and run 3 miles. I'm floundering without a plan. Do the next virtual race from 10/31 to 12/25 ? Pull out Hal's marathon plan and try my hand (feet) at that? But will there even be a race to look forward to in 12+ weeks? Hard to get excited about that without a finish line to look for.
I guess I'm feeling rudderless in most areas of my life right now. Running is taking a hit and I don't want to lose the forward momentum that I've fought to get.
Sorry for the whining. I should just count my blessings and be happy with that.9 -

Remember the one we ran 'together' back in March? Mine was put off to this weekend. And then cancelled. But I'm running it anyway. Again. Outside with a lot of up and down of mask.5 -

Hmmmmm... how fitting 😂. And sad, too.
Let me think about this and I'll get back to you.
ETA: just asked kiddo if he wanted to do another half marathon on his bike with me at the lake. He says, "Why don't we do it twice and count it as a marathon?" HAHAHAHAHA no.WandaVaughn wrote: »I guess I'm feeling rudderless in most areas of my life right now. Running is taking a hit and I don't want to lose the forward momentum that I've fought to get.

I can echo a lot of what you're expressing. In many ways, this has honestly been one of my best years of life - SO much better than my 2019 - but then there are all of these disappointments, too. It's ok to stop, step back, and reassess why we're doing things and if/how we should continue. Of course we should continue running. But some of the other stuff... 😉4 -
@polskagirl01 I like the way he thinks!2

I started one but didn't finish. It was more I decided to do something different.
It does adjust as you go. The biggest drawback for me was you can't see future workouts. With Hal I can see his general plan through race day & then it makes little adjustments.
Garmin you can move workouts around. Hal doesn't allow that.
Garmin also won't let you enter a race date isn't X weeks out (I can't recall the number). Hal does but says it may be hard.
Both have pros and cons.
ETA Garmin sends all workouts to your watch so it's waaaaay easy.4
