My son is now wondering if they had covid back in April. They both felt rotten for a while, but, because they didn't have classic symptoms, at the time they didn't think it was. Now we know more about 'mild' and asymptomatic cases, he's definitely wondering about it. He's also read that parents of young children can often get it more mildly because they are so used to being bombarded with germs, their immune system is on high alert. :o I don't know if that is true.
I suggested he get himself an immunity test. You have to buy them, but they are not hugely expensive. I think Superdrug sell them.
The kids were a little bit 'coldy' yesterday so we tried not to get close and stayed outside. Hand washing. I'm much better at the distancing thing than DH and I often have to warn him to keep back. Bea gets the closest, but evidence says she is the least risky. She wanted to sit on my lap, but I said no. The other two are very good, even to not touching us. DH did wash his hands regularly and they had their own boules.
However, there is still a risk. :o But they light up our lives.

I hope you get tested soon too.

Michele - I didn’t have a proper answer to your question as I haven't put any water on the floor. I imagine, as it has had two coats of varnish, that a light spill would just wipe up, but anything left on for longer might mark if it was left to soak in. The guys varnished and lightly sanded and varnished again. It seems pretty robust.
Our kitchen floor is laminate, pretend wood, and looking very worn, so we are thinking of replacing it. Don't know what with yet. Imitation tiles, or vinyl is a possibility. Water damage is more possible there, but we did have real oak in our previous house with no ill effects. I don't want real, hard, ceramic tiles. Too afraid of dropping things.

The plumber came just before 8 am and managed to get the top off the boxed-in unit. The diaphragm is torn, so he is going to get a new one and ring us later. Plus I asked him to get the taps on the tiny basin to turn more easily. They are almost impossible.
It will be interesting to see if I can actually answer my phone when he rings! No one has phoned me since I did a full reboot. ;) If I don't get an icon I will have to take it in to the shop where they did the data transfer. It worked fine in there, but then I got 4 hours of updates and the phone disappeared. It rings OK.

    On with my memoir. :D

Fae - I also had lots of sneezing, drippy nose, minor coughing a couple days ago after the latest batch of rain started. Took a Sambucca elderberry lozenge before I went to bed, woke up the next day feeling fine. I worked outside a lot plus cleaned out the potting shed, so must have been an allergy. I'm taking several supplements proven to have anti-viral properties, so will be interesting to see what, if anything, I catch this season. Not being around other people much helps.

Regarding protein: An article I read said seniors need to up their protein a little (if they don't have kidney or other problems) as we age to prevent muscle loss - sarcopenia - and the recommendation was 1 gram of protein for each kg of weight. So I should be coming in at around 70 gm per day, and I generally eat around 60 to 70. Not bad.

I calculated my DH's daily protein intake. He basically eats the same thing every day because of his tender stomach. I figured on a good day he gets 25 to 30 gm, and he weighs between 170 and 180 lbs, so should be getting between 70 and 80 gm to prevent muscle loss/weakness.

He has been gradually losing weight (the article mentioned this can be caused by lack of protein). So we had a gentle discussion about this, and I got him drink a bottle of Ensure high-protein supplement, which is another 16 grams of protein! He liked it and I'm crossing fingers he'll do this daily.

My next goal is to find a fruit/and or/vegetable he can eat and a way for him to get a little more fiber, but one thing at a time.

Heather - love the paint color, goes very well with the newly resurfaced floor! Your house is just so cute with the dining area overlooking the back yard. Hope the plumber gets toilet problem solved quickly. Wonderful photos of the grands. I see folks getting this virus as a light at the end of the tunnel - once over it, they are no longer contagious so will be safe to be around if this antibody thing works like it has in the past with other viruses.

A friend and I are wondering if a friend who died in February died of COVID and it wasn't assigned to COVID because COVID was not on the radar here back then. She had many of the symptoms they check off today. She had just been to Florida and just had had Relatives visit her from California. We had gone to visit her when she was in the hospital. So I had no way of knowing was I exposed at that time. I rarely get sick now. I only have a vague memory of a slight sore throat for awhile. I hope they develop better tests for determining have you had it and did not know it.

Heather you mentioned an immunity test. Would this help me know if I had exposure and did not know it?

:) We've had some rain and the ground is looking happy. Also had a lot of wind so the roads are covered with bits of debris. The maintenance people will be around this morning to vacuum the streets. We had someone come last week to clear off six months of accumulated "stuff" from our roof and treat it for moss. It is clearly autumn here with chilly weather and shorter days. I added a scarf to my morning walking attire now that it's below 50 degrees when I go out.

:)Carol, We, too, are staying safe at home. Last week, I went out only through the drive through at Jack in the Box for Jake's birthday dinner and the pharmacy. Jake went to the dentist and the chiropractor. We recently started ordering dog food online so we don't have to go to Costco.

Hi Kari Jo! Sounds like your life is going pretty well. B) We live very near the sea in Brighton and Hove, in the south of the UK. We moved here nearly 2 years ago to be near the grandchildren. We love the place where we live, but, as it is a tourist and vibrant leisure town, we are concerned about the effects of all the restrictions. My son's job is a struggle at the moment.
However, we take great pleasure in being by the sea. B)
We used to be great travellers, but that has had to stop. Thank goodness we love it where we are!

Lanette I am hearing the same report from many in the PNW. Allergies are at an all-time high this year due to the smoke and weeks of stagnant air. Thanks for the reminder about elderberry and its antiviral properties. I think my symptoms are a result of getting my recent super whammy flu shot. Others getting it have also reported symptoms lasting up to 3 days. I take several viral fighting supplements as well as an antiviral drug, twice daily.

COVID concerns My PCP in my visit of two weeks ago, gave me guidelines to follow before being concerned about testing for SARS2/COVID19. If my temperature rises more than one degree, or/and my breathing becomes difficult, then I am to call her on her personal number. She is a long-time friend so I have that to be thankful for. My temperature is holding steady and my breathing is good as ever.

The only SARS2/COVID19 test I will do is the one done in my doctor's office that shows results in 15 minutes.

Fae on the mend having completed her full workout with added compression bra resistance deep breathing and fireside meditation while watching the wind spin my windsocks and hearing the music of my four various sizes 30 years old chimes

11: focus on a positive change you want to see in society: as more and more people weary of the “shouting at each other across the chasm” maybe we can communicate with respect and tolerance, finding common ground from which to move forward.

Faye how can you tell your glaucoma eye is draining? Does the fluid actually run out over the lid? Or the pain abate? Joe is spare with details… ;) So sorry you’re feeling poorly. Symptoms are starting to sound scary!
Kate and Lisa so glad to hear from you both. Healing vibes and hugs!
    Margaret Brava for persevering. ((hugs))
Julie thanks, I resist “going” to the Micro$oft Store but may have to, in order to find the screen time timer I want. :P Waiting 8 months for postponed appointment is depressing and aggravating. Trust this specialist will share the complete results and get you some relief!
Pip trying to walk everywhere in California? You and Kirby are marvels!
Con VERY grats Annie! Well done.
Debbie sorry for misunderstanding, thought your FIL didn’t model good husbanding for your DH. Must have mixed up with your Meanie-in-law.
Heather the room looks great, the color is perfect, floors gorgeous, but most bestest are your DH’s and youngest grand’s smiles.
Allie ((hugs)) Are your son and daughter close? Will he confide in her?
Michele, how many days between when you drove Vince to the ER and when he went by ambulance?
Tracey here in the US, an uninsured ride in an ambulance can cost thousands of dollars. Living 25 miles from the hospital, we’d get there faster by driving, than waiting for an ambulance to make the round trip.
Machka you’re right I couldn’t drive myself if in category 1 or 2, but Joe could drive me…

Soft, steady rain started an hour ago. It’s the kind that gently replenishes the soil. Hope it continues all night!

That is ok-to my husband, his dad was always old. He was over 40 when Frank was born. There was no love shown between his parents ever. Frank, like his father are/were good providers financially for the family but in the emotional support and affection department they both lacked. For his dad it was he was just tired of her always yelling. Frank couldn't sleep well when we got married because he wasn't used to a quiet house. His dad did show love to me and especially to our son. It was really special to him that Jona(Jonathan) took his first steps on Thanksgiving day to Grandpa Lou. We weren't expecting him to get up, walk across the room on the day he turned 8months old. He was going to get his grandpa. Sadly, Lou passed away when Jona was in 1st grade so doesn't remember a lot about him.
MIL was never happy being married to him. She loved her first husband who divorced her and left her with a 2 yr old but married Frank's dad so he could provide for her and her son. She has always been miserable so makes sure everyone else is. Frank should step back and not be there as often as he is but it is an honor thing. She yells at him then he comes home in a bad mood, ranting and raving about what she did/said- I don't want to hear it. I have heard it for too many years.

Hooray! We have a working downstairs toilet. :D It's never worked properly since we moved here and recently you had to have a 'knack' to get it going. Yesterday it packed up completely, strangely after I had texted Dan the plumber.
He came back after lunch and fixed it, plus changed the taps around, so now we can have water from one side to wash our hands. The other one is jammed shut.
How amazing to have a loo that flushes! Luxury.
The bonus is that he is really inexpensive. In our last house it was really difficult to get tradesmen to come and then they charged at least double Dan's price. Brighton seems to have lots of really good, efficient and reasonably priced trades people. Thank goodness. DH is not a handyman, but once upon a time he would have had a go. Nowdays I really don't want him exerting himself, up a ladder, or down a cistern. ;)

DH loved the tech cargo pants I got him for his birthday. He tried them on and - perfect! So he asked me to order him two more pairs, one in another colour. He is paying for those! :p His old ones that he loves have slowly been disintegrating. I have a few small things for him to open on the actual day. <3 Must get a card.

MFP updated and broke my connection to communities! I got over 250 posts behind so will start again here.

I’ve been very busy with the park opening, but in a good way. Getting lots more steps in but still need to work on my emotional eating and drinking at night. :(

Had blood work done last week and will be going for results Friday. I’ve not been eating well, so not looking forward to that.

Our Wicket goes in for a tooth pulling on Wednesday. And Saturday and Sunday DH and I are going for our concealed carry license. ( please. I don’t want to start any discussions on this. Just our thing).

Sent in my mail in votes. And still love my new Subaru.

Don’t remember what else I wanted to tell you gals, so by for now!

Just read this: “ Rita Looking good and official in that park outfit. It is tough going back to work after so much time off, but at least you are close to your job. I took a park ranger job out of high school and my first assignment was cleaning the restrooms where someone had thrown poo all over the walls. I quit. That was my shortest job ever. They asked in the interview if I could clean toilets, not poop smeared walls and overflowed (intentionally) toilets. I couldn't believe any human could do such a thing.

    Fae in Or.”

I’m luck that as a volunteer I don’t do bathrooms! Lol Rangers here have had to do that too! So glad I don’t need to!

Thanks for the comments on my “uniform” Lol. I made that mask and made 2 others; one for DH and one for the Ranger Superintendent who loves it!

I hope that parent isn't like one I had- She was gone for something like three weeks or a month or something like that(can't remember exactly as that was over 30yrs ago). No call, nothing just stopped showing up. Then, out of the blue she pops in, "I'm here"- told her sorry but beings she had been gone so long with no notice, I had filled her place. She went off on me, cussing me out. I just said sorry and walked back inside with the toddler I was holding. THEN about a week later, licensing showed up about a complaint-yep the lady called and made up some fake complaint. I have had two different ones do that. Don't like the consequenses of their actions so try and hurt my business in return.
So glad I don't have to deal with that anymore- I can take care of one family at a time and not deal with licensing anymore.

Here is an excerpt from a website on how to help your immune system fight off CoVid
“Many nutrients are involved in promoting healthy immune system function. These nutrients can be found in a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and protein-rich foods:

Protein and zinc: fish, lean beef, chicken, turkey, dairy products, eggs, legumes, & soy-based foods
Omega-3 fatty acids: salmon, mackerel, tuna, flaxseed, walnuts, and chia seeds
Vitamin D: mackerel, salmon, fortified foods (mushrooms, milk, orange juice, tofu, soy beverages, some cereals), and egg yolks
Antioxidant-rich foods: cantaloupe, papaya, citrus, blueberries, cranberries, grapes, apples, dark chocolate, tea, sweet potatoes, broccoli, carrots, spinach, bell, peppers, asparagus, onions, beets, and mushroom
Prebiotic- and probiotic-containing foods: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, kimchi, lactobacillus and bifidobacterium-containing milk, kefir, and yogurt. From medical express.com.

Happy Monday. I made it over my night shift and lastnight I slept like a rock. Now this week I work 5 days 7-3:30 and 12 hours days on Saturday. Next week we leave on Tuesday for vacation and so looking forward to that.

Heather--I love the new paint job, looks really nice. Glad the visit went well and everyone looks like they are having so much fun.

I just had a meeting with my boss and after all these months the higher ups have decided I need to wear a mask when answering the phone. I am not a happy person.

Barbara I can tell by the lack of discomfort at the side of my eye. I push in above my cheekbone near the eye side gently. If tender, my pressures will be over 15. The eye fluid in question is all internal. When your eye drains the fluid goes back into your system. Here are two sites I recommend reading completely. You may already know all this. If not you will understand Mr. Mum a lot better with his eye pain. It is very aggravating and does really put limits on activities plus dampen a good outlook on aging.
