Apparently I cannot select my text to copy or cut either, I don’t know if it’s an iPhone change or the MFP app causing issues.
Kaitlyn and her sweet pup Ember joined us for supper. She didn’t stay as long as planned as it started snowing and freezing rain. She has an hour and 10 minute drive home in some country roads.
I am fighting with myself on whether to get one of these pups, there are still two ready for a home. The expense is what keeps holding me back.

Tracey, We love our dogs and can't imagine our lives without them, but they are very expensive.1

Hey ladies!
Today was a long day! Up early doing the laundromat, the commissary, the pharmacy, packing up box to go to youngest Navy son. In it is some NutterButter bars, chocolate dipped granola bars, beef jerky, Starbucks Columbian coffee instant coffee tubes, hot chocolate packets, a huge chocolate bar, a roll of bubble gum, peanut butter cups, and a birthday/Christmas card. Dang if that kid is turning 22! hard to believe huh!
Tomorrow is oatmeal chocolate chip cookie making day for my middle sons birthday. We bought a $40 grubhub card too. Here's him:-)
that was in August.
And Athenas daycare pic. Such a sweet and happy smile the teacher took:-)
Next week she starts officially but I think she will have no problem.
Today I made street taco pizzas for me and my eldest. He loved them. Too much salt though, with the kielbasa sausage, the olives, and then I had some Pepperidge Farms snowball cookies. So yummy with my coffee. No regrets. Tomorrows a new day.
Hugs all:-)

31: Think of 3 things that give you hope for the future: 1:the pendulum swings, 2:the earth abides, 3:love conquers all. Sorry for trite but super pooped, not sure why. Shouldn’t be from just taking the dogs down the drive twice and a little veg prep, but there it is.
Kate (and Heather) “Scandinavia Noir” wouldn’t be to my taste, “2020 USA” is film noir sufficient for me.
Fae Yes I recommended hot rag, warm cloth, cool cloth compresses to Joe twice. But I’m just his wife. (nasal mwah mwah mwah sound from the peanuts specials.) Still not comfortable enough for me. You’d have to put a saddle on that broom!
Heather dratted mice! the stained glaass, thanks for the pics!
@mrsbfe Hi right back atcha!
Julie is the lockdown for Paris only or for the entire country? If you go to an Airbnb will there be grocery or restaurants nearby?
Machka I have a “heated throw” larger than a pad, smaller than the under sheet kind. It lives at the foot of my bed. Can plug it in, turn it on, and spread it over feet, or shoulders, or back and hips wherever/whenever needed. Hope it lives forever.
Pip why Santa Cruz on Election Day? Is it someone’s bday or anniversary?
Rebecca, congrats to youngest son, best bday wishes to middle son, and bet eldest son loved the street taco pizza! Oh that Athena Rose!

Allie- I hope you have a snug quilt, afghan or comforter to keep you warm. I like a cool bedroom, but 61 is a bit chilly for me.
Snowflake- What a wonderful puppy!!! I am in complete agreement with you regarding the iphone. Leave well enough alone!!! I am beginning to get mine back in working order. :grumble:
Barbie- I want to knit!!!! I haven’t found a nearby group to help me get organized for making baby blankets for new moms. The nearest group is miles away and in an area where there are more incidents of Covid 19 than in our area. I hope to get involved as time goes along.
Rebecca- Your granddaughter is a charmer! Congrats to your son for making rate! :flowerforyou:
I sorted out the issues with my iphone and things are okay again. DH helped. Apple wanted me to make multiple passwords—not happening. I’m lucky to remember one.
Tomorrow is Halloween. I have candy ready for the neighborhood kids. I really hope they come!

I had to look up what 61F is ...it's 16C. That's what we drop our heater to in the spring and autumn. In winter we drop it to 17C (62.6F). If we know the night time temp is only going down to, say, 12C, we'll turn the heat off entirely.
I've gotten used to being slightly chilly here in Tas!

M in Oz The way I taught myself is using 68 F being 20 C and then add or subtract 18 F for every 10 C variation. Most remember 32 F as 0 C but I find it more useful to remember my favorite temperature which is 68 F or 20 C. All the in-betweens most with fractions, I just round off.0

Saturday is reading newspaper day.
Tracey - Edie was the worst offender. She is finding the physical separation the most difficult. Acting up is her way of dealing with the stress.
They went swimming at the next town over yesterday. They had to book a session two weeks ahead!!! They found when they arrived that only two families were allowed in the pool at the same time. So they had half the pool to themselves. Edie said it was the best thing ever about coronavirus.
Tomorrow night Edie has a party to go to, but their mum has organised a House Of Horrors at home for the others. They showed us the decorations they had all made. Bea has been counting down the days!
Rain, wind. Rain, wind. It's forecast to cheer up later next week.

I think of temps in celcius.
However ... a really quick way to think of it is ...
0 is 30-ish
5 is 40-ish
10 is 50-ish
15 is 60-ish
20 is 70-ish
and then it kind of falls apart.

The 10C for 50 F is accurate and easy to remember so just add or subtract 18 F for every 10 C. Use 9 F for 5 C and that will give a fairly accurate conversion. Example 15 C is 59 F. Using 1.8 degree F for every 1 degree C is good for the in-betweens. 11 C is 51.8 F or 52 is close enough for my purposes. 21 C is 69.8 F or rounding off to 70 F works for me. I like celsius because of the larger temperature variation in 1 degree.2 -
Heather- Beautiful door and sidelights! Totally understand the door dilemma (drafts v not wanting to buy a new door). With your beautiful stained glass window, it would be better to find someone who can take their time and replace the window into a door that fits. In the meantime, this is what Tim and I did with our current front door (until we have $$ for a new one). https://www.familyhandyman.com/project/how-to-stop-door-drafts-around-entry-doors/ The weather stripping works really well, and we didn't have to mess with removing any of the brad strips. You do need to push with a bit more effort to get the door to close tightly, but well worth the $20 for materials and the bit of work it took to install them.
For me today: grocery shop, putting Christmas lights up, yard clean up of branches, winterize the house. All kind of mundane (except the lights), but needs to be done. Temps today look to be in the high 40s and sunny (I will take that) Tomorrow is looking to be windy, overcast and high 30s-low 40s. Paperwork for me, tomorrow.
I will attempt to put Halloween pics of the kids in a spoiler because there are a few of them. I have never used a spoiler so we will see how this goes. lol There is a pic of eight of the kids (most out of costume), then a pic of about six of them in costume, there is a pic of the oldest kiddo who arrived late, and then a pic of Tim holding (his favorite, Peyton). They spent a lot of time together wherever it was a little quieter, yesterday. He spoils her terribly!
Reminder: It is the last day of the month! Watch for Barbie's final post with the link to the November thread!
I better get busy and finish my shopping list! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)4 -

From Action for Happiness ...
"Life is far from perfect, but there are lots of reasons for optimism. Setting positive goals for the future gives our lives a sense of direction and purpose. And although we face many challenges there are also lots of reasons to stay hopeful. By consciously choosing our priorities we can overcome issues, make progress and focus on what really matters."
https://www.actionforhappiness.org/optimistic-october
Oct 28 - Ask yourself, will this still matter a year from now?
The little things won't.
If the grocery store doesn't have my favourite whatever ... that won't matter.
If my clothes take longer than I'd hoped to dry ... that won't matter.
If it rains, or is chilly, or hot or whatever ... that won't matter.
If my husband doesn't do something today and waits for a few days, chances are, that won't matter.
What will matter are the more important things like career, education, fitness and health.
Oct 29 - Find a new perspective on a problem you face
We're still dealing with the return to work girl.
BUT ... rather than getting all worked up about it, I've opted to answer her emails with the shortest replies I can: "We're much the same, thanks".
And when she sent a completely incorrect RTW plan informing us it was the new plan, instead of doing her work for her, I sent it back and said it's wrong. Fix it and then we might talk. It's her job, not mine.
I'm dropping or delegating a lot of things these days.
Oct 30 - Find a goal that links to your sense of purpose in life
Um ... at this point I don't have much of a sense of purpose. I'm not sure I want a goal or a sense of purpose right now.
Oct 31 - Think of 3 things that give you hope for the future
Being finished university.
My little family.
God is in control. (yes, I know ... religion etc. but there you go. For me, that is something which gives me hope)

Love your Oct. 31st ideas!0 -
I grew up cold and was never warm in the Winter unless my Dad was home and had the fire going well, Mom couldn’t keep fires going well. We keep our house warm for most people about 20C, but I refuse to be cold when it’s not necessary.
My BF whose husband had to have the emergency surgery 2 weeks ago she was complaining about having to be responsible for the wood stove. I told her that I would never rely on wood hear again. I love the feel of it but not the work, or the upkeep of keeping it going.
Heather - surprisingly Michaela was the one most affected by Covid in our family although it was Jonah that actually lost more freedoms. Michaela did not react as well as he did.
I quite agree with Edie, wouldn’t that be marvellous having half a pool to yourself?
My daughter and her best friend are doing a scavenger hunt for the kids, then they are watching a “scary” movie. Since the little girls are 4 the movie choice is Coco. Jonah will be allowed to stay up later and enjoy a bit scarier movie with the adults.
Kelly - what a bunch of cuties!
We are supposed to get warmer weather this week and I’m so happy for a little reprieve from the cold.
I read that the small town I’m from in NB has its first case of Covid in the school. This is a bit scary for us as our niece and her children that go to the school are living with Rodger’s parents currently. I hope they don’t get it.
My Goddaughter’s daughter who is 4 now has to go for a test because her preschool teacher has tested positive.

Machka- My phone has a world clock feature. I use it regularly to call my adult children who live in different time zones than me & one another. I have an app called convert light. I use it for converting temperature most often—I use Farenheit v Celcius. I downloaded it years ago and use it now and then. It also works for currency, energy, BTU, calories, time zone, and other things. It was a free app, and they’d love me to pay for the full list of things. I don’t need that level of info in my daily life. :noway:
Allie- BRRRR! 28F is cold. It is currently 35F here and heading for a high of 60F. We haven’t had a hard frost yet in 2020. Global warming seems very real this year. :ohwell:
I’m set for trick or treat today. Our little neighborhood kids will have goodies at my house. I’ll encourage them to have more than one. We’re offering Reece’s Peanut butter Cups and M&Ms.

@Flea, I'm not only really sad about how people follow or don't follow health measures, but more about all that we are losing and are going to lose. Students around 20 years old, are missing part of their "normal" youth. For people with comfortable families and homes, maybe no big deal or even a welcome break, but for less favoured people (cramped homes, complicated family situations, lack of means, etc) it's not an easy thing to deal with.
I'm also sad about the impossibility to meet and communicate about other key things.
Basically, one is allowed to go out to work here, and that is mostly it.
@Barbara, restaurants are closed or open only for takeout. the food stores are about 2km away I think. I'm thinking of going there by scooter. it means that I cannot bring as much. I need to bring files, etc. It's a little hour by scooter. usually I don't go more than 30-40 min by scooter, but I guess I can make an exception. The owner said he can also take me to food shop or I can take an uber. I'm hesitating but already reserved (not paid) and prefer to respect my engagement.0
