Nice artistry work on that painting @MissMay !
DH burnt the turkey....hilariously hysterical. He was distracted on the phone with his mom for way too long. Lucky for us nobody came over anyway! Thankful we had our sense of humor and a bottle of pinot grigio to save the evening.
Today starts day 1 of my holiday AF streak. READY.........6 -
@MissMay You have a great, uplifting attitude and you're right! I don't have any pictures of my dad and I as I was growing up. Yet, I have some of the best memories with him. Maybe I'll write them down.
That is sweet to write them down❤ I like the stories better than the photo.
My first late husband was obsessed with me taking pictures. When we were traveling he would always tell me to have the camera ready to get photos. I spent my whole time with my stomach in knots, because if I happened to not get a gazzion pics of what he saw he would get angry. Thing is, I never really was able to retain any of those in my memory bank because I had the camera lens glued to my eye ball. I would have rather been in awe of the moment.
Hope your Thanksgiving with your husband and three children was lovely.3 -
Just the three of us for Thanksgiving, no alcohol for me and just football as background noise while cooking and cleaning, and I squeezed a 3 mile run in in the middle of it. Oh and Macy's Day Parade 💖💝💗, best way to start Thanksgiving morning!!! Leftovers probably until Monday and will be good and sick of it by then. Last year I was drinking too much and watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation followed by a solo party of all National Lampoon's movies until early hours of morning. Tonight it will be National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation without alcohol! Life is good...!!!

Glad everyone enjoyed my painting, this is something I just started doing to keep busy and out of trouble.5 -
Wine bottles opened but I'm drinking hot tea & water - AF. Sore throat
Lots of leftovers here as well. Turkey, spinach Madeline and rice dressing for lunch. Then I made a big pot of turkey and sausage gumbo for this evening.
Nov accountability: 14/27 days AF
Goal: AF days 3 per week / 12 per month; limit 1-2 glasses per day

See you December 1st3 -
I am Dawn and live in South East British Columbia. I am 60.
My goal remains the same as it has been for quite some time, 16-20 AF days per month.
I check in diary style. It works for me.
Monday Nov 23 - AF - Early morning and fairly long day tomorrow. Anyway, I had been breaking my own rule for myself, not having 2AF days in a row.
Tuesday Nov 24 - Drinks. Apparently my self control is not that in gear over the last week. I will get to my 16-20.
Wednesday Nov 25 - AF - Had to get to that 16 although I was really craving an Espresso Bailey's with Apricot Brandy mixed in. It is not going anywhere, I can have it another day.
Thursday Nov 26 - Drinks. Lots of calories still left over, very active day with my morning workout, a trip to another town for skating etc. Not sure what is up with me, I have definitely had more AF days in the past 11 months. Hoping to get at least a couple more AF days before the month is out.
Friday Nov 27 - AF - Aiming for at least one more AF day this month.
Rolling total. 17AF days out of 27 days6 -
Good morning Less Alcohol seekers~
Funny observation since Thanksgiving pasted. Approaching the Thanksgiving holiday in my area and with talking with my friends and family. There was much scepticism as to how November 26 would play out. Not being able to have crowds of people stuffed into our homes or being without some of those that we love.
99.9% of the responses from people I have spoke with, found a way to make the very best of what they had in front of them. I have a dear dear friend that is over 100 years old. When I spoke with her on the phone Thanksgiving. I apologized for not being able to see her this year. She was very calm and cool...."You know" she said, "the world has become very spoiled with technology. There was not always a time that you could have everything you wanted in a snap of you finger. Sometimes families could not be together for other reasons like weather, or work or distance. And we made the best of what we had right then and there."
I wanted to share this wise womans thoughts with you. She has lived through a century, seen many horrible things, had much less in her life than many in this day and age. Yet....she was sure if most did not expect so much they may be happier with what is in front of them.
LESS really is more. 🌺

@dawnbgethealthy another month of meeting your goals. Nicely done. Any more skating stories?

@globalhiker funny not funny your DH let the turkey get to crispy. @mainelylisa and I were just talking about holiday dinner stories we should share.
Two different holidays my turkeys got ruined because of power outages. The only way to eat something was to heat it up on a small camping propane stove. So twice I had to open up a box of mac and cheese and we ate that. No more holidays up North in the boonies.

3 days left to the month so time to finish strong.....! I gotta do it like I mean it!
Great pictures all of you!! I'm keeping busy with holiday online shopping, doing my duty to boost the economy5 -
@Lilylady3k the gumbo sounds delish. How was your day one of 🦃 to🌲 alcohol free? My DH bought a bottle of prosecco and slupped it in the frig before Thanksgiving. He commented that he thought I woukd want to drink it while watching the Thanksgiving Day parade. Uh...no, someone needs to be alert to cook dinner I said to him.5
-
@MissMay We are both struggling with DH trying to influence us to drink with them. Smiling that yours bought you something special to watch the morning parade with LOL Congrats on being so strong!
Thanksgiving I planned wine. But Friday night I planned AF. Well my DD & her husband came over. DH opened a bottle of white and red. He was the only one that drank them ... 1.5 bottles by himself. Turned out they too were not drinking Friday night after their Thanksgiving indulgence at his family Thanksgiving. Soooooo while it was available I avoided it.
My plan is to have some alcohol between the holidays but then again I want to pick them not feel like I need to share the bottle of wine with DH to keep him from drinking so much. All but 2 days in Nov DH had drinks when I had an AF day.
My goal is to move back toward 4 days AF per week / 16 days AF per month again. Set my goal in Nov to 3 days AF per week / 12 days AF for Nov to feel like I could succeed after an awful October AF 9/31 LOL! Still October was better than July AF 3/31 Baby steps.5 -
The Thanksgiving did not go as planned. I bought extra beer (12 pack) to let others have that I was joining for the day. They had their own booze, and well, if I have it in front of me I will drink it. Bad habit that needs to be adjusted.
My friends say I dont drink any more than them, not positive they drink as less as I need. So that means they over drink.
I dont want to dump my friends, I know they won't join me to drink less. I have to have the bigger ⚽️🏐🏈🏀 to do the right thing for me.

AF this evening even though I'm watching LSU play football. Man when we are losing I really want a drink. Holding firm to my plan for the evening.
Nov accountability: 15/28 days AF
Goal: AF days 3 per week / 12 per month; limit 1-2 glasses per day
No Alcohol: 15 days
Alcohol 13 days (33 drinks)4 -

Check👍and double check 👍👍 @CMB44512 . YOU are aware of your short comings or weakness.
AWARENESS is a major step in the right direction. It was a kind gesture to take more beer in hopes your friends would help you consume it. Dont let this one step back deter you from moving forward.
And of course they will always say you dont drink anymore than any of us. Many of us have heard those same words from friends or loved ones.

Come on over..........3 -
Doing good here. Yesterday I dropped into my favorite market that sells my favorite sparkling rose and I just did not go down the wine aisle. I had strength to do this because it was late morning and because I had already eaten lunch, resulting in no bad decision-making. If I can just stick to this rule, I can make the 25-day "no wine-ing" goal.
I sure hope nobody decides to send me an early Xmas gift of a wine basket or wine variety pack!
Off to run 9 miles today on the trails. It's dark and 44 degrees. BRRRR.....but the calories will burn, burn, burn.....7 -
Holy smokes @globalhiker your my HERO.
A nine(9) mile run??
I know I could not run 9 FEET .
You go girl.6 -

Saturday Nov 28 - Drinks. The weather cooperated and I got my last garden bed cleaned out, bucket of carrots, and a few beets. It was +3 celsius, so I was able to get the shovel through it all. Mixed in a bucket of compost, a bucket of sand and then covered it in thick black plastic until the spring. I think that I rewarded myself with drinks.

@dawnbgethealthy another month of meeting your goals. Nicely done. Any more skating stories?
Thanks : - )
I have definitely had more monthly AF days this year than this, but 2 more days still.
Well, everyone had to keep their masks on while skating at the arena on Thursday. That was different, but totally fine.
Outdoor skating is still not happening, it has been too warm still for good ice. Glad that I can at least go to the arena in the other town twice a week when they are offering public skating.6 -
I'm in for November! After a very good August & September decreasing my alcohol consumption, October just didn't go as planned. But recommitted to drinking less this month.

11/13 - AF
11/14 - AF
11/15 - AF
11/16 - AF, no plans to drink today but have been thinking about Thanksgiving a good bit. I have never planned to be AF that day but now wondering if it is worth breaking the streak???? I really have no issues with not drinking & enjoy being AF but once I start then it is much more habitual, I don't want one day to turn into 1 month of drinking like October did. Although, If I just buy 1 nice bottle for DH & I to share then we definitely won't overdrink that night. Decisions, Decisions... So far 10 out of 16 days AF this month.
11/17 - AF
11/18 - AF
11/19 - 2 Drinks
11/20 - AF, Broke my 10 day streak yesterday, takes a little pressure of breaking it on Thanksgiving.
11/21 - AF, no plans to drink today. Busy weekend cleaning and organizing the house, making Thanksgiving grocery and prep lists, and getting some good runs in on this super nice unseasonably warm weather. So far 14 out of 21 days AF this month.

11/23 - Wine
11/24- Wine
11/25 - Wine
11/26 - Wine
11/27 - AF, Re-starting the streak, plan is to keep it going until Christmas Eve, but we'll see!
11/28 - AF, husband called on his way home from work, to see if I wanted him to pick up anything, code for "do you want wine" and I said no. Almost said yes, but took a moment and realized I didn't have any urge to drink but was only going to say yes out of habit, so kept to my AF plan.
11/29 - AF, no plans to drink today7 -
Thanks for having me! However because I am now aiming for 100% sobriety, I will be leaving. November to remember was alcohol free for me. I'm grateful...7

Keep your aim high.

We are at the fishing camp 🎣 so that I might help my mom out this week. I planned an AF evening. DH started the evening with bourbon & 7up which I skipped. My mom brought over a bottle of chardonnay but it turned out to be a 2005 and very old ... it had gone bad (think brown vinegar). So YES I was AF this evening after all LOL
We'll see how the rest of the week goes. Mom wants to open all her bottles of wine until we find one that is good. I'm pretty sure they are all bad (old and stored improperly). This has been a discussion for years but now that her husband passed away she wants to challenge me on the topic as she is cleaning out a ton of stuff in her house.
Mom has her poker group tomorrow night ... so we'll check out the reds on Tuesday night while grilling steaks and see if there is anything in her stash.
Nov accountability: 16/29 days AF5 -
@MTW70 I like your log ... you've done well this month!
@LoveyChar You are an inspiration ... definitely will miss you.
@CMB44512 It was nice of you to think of others and bring extra ... sorry the plan backfired. I guess the new plan going forward is to take what you plan to drink and then if you end up sharing ... you'll drink less with no regrets.
@dawnbgethealthy I'm so glad that you've found a place to skate!
@globalhiker Yes avoiding the wine aisle is an excellent plan!
@MissMay Are you planning to have a Dec or Jan thread in the challenge group that points to our new location for those that return? I know that I would not have thought to find you under support motivation when I returned in August after my hiatus.3 -
@Lilylady3k how nice you got to go back to your beautiful camp. Helping your Mom go through wine to see if it is good or bad sounds like a great time....not to drink as I dont do wine, but just the therapeutic process and good conversation between you both.
The link is all set up to click and follow up above. I will keep coming back here on the Nov 2020 thread close to the end of each month to post the link to click to get over to the current monthly threads.
But as far as anything here in the challenge category, I will not have an active posting thread for Less Alcohol.
I will redirect people if they post here.
