Welcome @kopeterson00 Kathleen from NE Oregon!
Heather stunning pics of the grands, Johnny and the downs. Hard for me to imagine so much open space in the UK, I always think of it as so densely populated.
Janet delighted to see you post. The very happiest of birthdays to you! Beautiful pic, those apples didn’t fall far... Glad your DD and grands were able to camp out with you while their home was without power, so sorry about your orchard. Could the grands help pick up branches?
Annie, hang in there. A two pound fluctuation is not unusual. Your strength training and good eating habits will succeed in the long run.
Viv “… while I’m working out which leg is best to use first…” Exactly! And, alas, sometimes the answer for me is “Neither!” Hope Leah gets some respite from the fireworks.
Tracey ((hugs)) for you and your mom. What a little cutie you have visiting!
Michele amazed your pool was still open in November. Lucky you!
Welcome @pfolsom35 ! Would you let us know what you’d like to be called and your general locale?
Ginny “taking better care of ourselves” ditto! At 40 I was still smoking, so grateful to have been smoke free for 20+ years.
Machka beautiful pics as usual. How would the schedule change options affect your commute? If it were me, I’d focus my change request onto working more from home rather than longer days in the office…
The lovely pineapple express (60 degree soaking rain) got pushed out today by its polar twin (40 degrees blustering rain) and Brr, the wind is howling! Forecast is for sunny and dry tomorrow afternoon so hoping to drag my lazy kitten down to the port at 2 for line dancing.
Lighter, lovelies!

Good morning, all. Just a quick pop in to catch up.
Heather: Lovely photos. Grandchildren grow so fast.
Barbara: There is still loads of beautiful countryside in UK. Mountains, lakes, and coastal areas are balm to the soul.
Machka: Tasmania looks lovely. Are you on flexi time for work? My elder girl has flexi time, and uses hercxtrachours as days off.
JanetR: lovely to see you posting again. You look fabulous. 🥂🍾 Happy Birthday 🍾🥂
Tracey: 😍Your little visitor. She's adorable. (((Hugs))) for good news from Mom's ultra sound. It's such a worry when you can't be there.
Annie: 2lbs isn't much. Weight fluctuates all the time with no apparent reason.
I am conscious of and grateful for the fact that my age, and circumstances allow me relative freedom from work/family commitments and responsibilities.
When our first lockdown happened in mid March, I made a promise to myself that I wasn't going to waste the time and effort I had devoted to getting fit and healthy. At that stage I had lost over 70 lbs and was easing into maintenance below 155 lbs.
With all my socialising curtailed, it's been surprisingly easy to keep that promise. Sticking to my daily goals, I have even managed to push down below the 150 mark, except for a brief period around DH's birthday in September.
🕊Pax vobiscum 🕊

Morning, all...
Insomnia--there are worse things. Just thinking too much, plus physical issues that were keeping me awake. More tests on Tuesday, doctor's appointment on Thursday to deal with new symptom of edema that is making everything below my knees swell. Really hope there's a fix for it - it ranges from uncomfortable to painful.
On the bright side, however, the antibiotics have been successful in diminishing the symptoms that I've been struggling with for more than a year. Two more days of those, then another ten-day course beginning December 1. Also pleased that I'm making strides in terms of my strength and stamina, slower than I'd like, but perceptible. Made it through ten minutes on the elliptical earlier in the week. Didn't break any land speed records, but I made it.
Also finished up ordering Christmas presents from Amazon, so we can do our mini-Christmas here - and if it all goes sideways and the kids can't come, I'll be able to mail them easily. Pretty sure I've never been done with Christmas shopping well before Thanksgiving!
Ah, finally yawning. Time to go lay my head back down...
Welcome to those who are new!
Tracey - what a cutie! Bet that was a busy evening for all concerned.
Later,
Lisa

Machka beautiful pics as usual. How would the schedule change options affect your commute? If it were me, I’d focus my change request onto working more from home rather than longer days in the office…
I would too.
However, working from home is impossible. It is not an option.
I work for government and government will not pay for equipment at home AND equipment in the office. They barely pay for equipment in the office. It's like pulling teeth to get better stuff. Requesting equipment for home is a firm "NO!".
The only way I'll get to work from home is if we have another shutdown. Fingers crossed that happens in January or February. 🤞 🤞 🤞 I'd LOVE it if we were shutdown again for several months.
Changing my schedule wouldn't affect the length of time my commute takes each day. I'd just catch a different bus.TerriRichardson112 wrote: »Machka: Tasmania looks lovely. Are you on flexi time for work? My elder girl has flexi time, and uses hercxtrachours as days off.
☘️ Terri
I do have a flexi time option. That's where Option 1 (I could work an extra 51 minutes a day for 9 days ... and take the 10th day off each fortnight) comes in. That would be a fairly simple option without rocking any boats.

I went to yoga on Friday for the first time in months and am absolutely thrilled to be back into my routine there. My class is on Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 10 am. Yoga has gone on the whole time, but I stayed home at DH’s request. I am glad to have it back in my weekly routine. Everyone in class had masks on. Social distancing was spot on.
The election is over and most of my candidates won!!! I am very pleased with the national election results. One friend on the City Council in my town was not reelected. I hope she finds a new career that will be interesting and will allow her to support herself. Another will be retiring & moving away. He has been looking forward to being with his wife, & near his daughter and grandchildren.

Hello all! Happy Sunday!
Janet R- It is SO good to see you and hear that you have been doing well! Your grands and great grands are beautiful!
Carol/Peach- I love that you are still connected with Lenora! I am glad to hear she is doing well!
Anniesquats- Do not despair over two pounds! Our weight fluctuates daily! Could be water weight! Have you been moving more? Could be muscle weight! Remember to take your measurements, as well. Sometimes that weight gain is muscle and it will show in inches lost rather than weight lost! You can do this!
Tracey- Awwww! She even had a little purse of her girly things! lol She is so cute!
Heather- I really love to see your grands and see how active your son and DIL keep them! They are a vibrant little family!
I just want to share a website that I found many years ago that I absolutely adore. As a former girl scout leader, mom of a girl scout, and raiser of small children; this site has given me so much information and many ideas to share with the kids. I have just been thrilled with the number of women becoming leaders, legislators, CEOs, etc.. Not only in the USA, but on a worldwide scale. For me, this is an energizing time to be raising little girls. I love little boys, I am not a man hater; but I love to see women in roles that really until the last 50 years have been unimaginable. I am going to throw in my facebook post from yesterday, as well. Stella for President!Kelly LaMore is with Kris Burke Hobeck and

I know, many of my friends and family are upset and hurting today. I know many of my posts probably confuse you and make you wonder about me. Our government and leaders are not what I would consider ideal; regardless of party affiliation. But I am excited about the explosion of women in higher positions. Governing positions, legislative positions. I raise children for a living. I, as many of you, have always told all of my children, "You can be whatever you want to be." In my mind, I have always realized some of the goals my little girls had/have were going to take a lot more than grit to achieve them. I took this picture earlier this week. I have a lump in my throat as I post and think, "All this COULD be yours, baby girl!" I believe this, today, more than I have ever believed it. We are soooooo close.
I love that I can point to this group of amazing women, from all over the world, as an example of a diverse group that raises each other up and supports each individuals endeavors to becoming our best version of ourselves! Love to all of you ladies! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)5 -
Good morning ladies!
Janetr - so happy to see you posting again! Sorry about the pecan trees! Granddaughter and her son = gorgeous. Happy Birthday to you and Ginny
Remind me - doesn't Suebdew also have a large grove of Pecans? Missing her!
Barbara - thanks for the suggestion re red wine capsules, I will check them out. Did I see you were reading the Obesity Code? I really liked Dr. Fung's Youtube videos, he's a character. I thought he used good illustrations about insulin and fat, and I need to re-watch them.
Heather - lovely photos of the grands and your DH in rural settings. Kate, yours too.
Tracey - thinking about your mom in Nova Scotia. I'm wondering when/if I'll ever be able to travel back to Indiana and see my siblings again, especially with my DH's health. I can't leave him alone, nor can I risk being out much in the general public and risk bringing the big cootie home. I haven't had an email from my sis in weeks and need to give her a buzz. Hope she's just been busy outside with the Indian summer back in the midwest.
Rebecca - I really enjoyed those old photos, so interesting how some characteristics pass through the generations. A few months ago I ran across a photo of a great-great-grandfather and I saw my dad in that photo. As my brother ages, I can see a lot of our paternal grandfather. Me? My mom I guess, and probably some of my great-grandmother.
Machka - Neat to read about your plans now that you don't have to work around school. And I always enjoy seeing your DH's garden just when we are entering the throes of winter.
Today will be sunny, we hope. DH has a huge pile of maple leaves that need to be transported by moi to the rear of the property once things thaw a bit. After that, ten days of cold rainy weather.
If anyone is interested, I finally did run across my "favorite house" plans - http://houseplans.southernliving.com/plans/sl1254
This would work for me and another person so each could have their own space. DH and I did well with a 1000 SF house when we were first married, and the farmhouse we lived in was also quite small but had rooms added on throughout the years so the layout was hodge-podge. It was quirky but I liked it and we could be totally separated and do our own thing without bothering the other.
OK, need to scoot. Make it a super day!

Lanette-Remind me - doesn't Suebdew also have a large grove of Pecans? Missing her!
Yes! Janet R's post mentioning the pecans, reminded me of Suebdew! She and Cathy from Arlington are the only two members I have met, so far; so I found Sue's number in my contacts and messaged her. She replied that she and her hubby are doing fine. Recovering from the virus; mainly fighting fatigue at this point. They have been able to play some golf occasionally. Her eyes are bothering her, so she hasn't been reading or on the computer much. She misses all of us, says hello to all and sends hugs!2 -
JanetR ... good to see you! Your photos are always an inspiration!
Lanette ... I liked both of the houses. My husband's and my first house was about 1100 sq ft and included a basement. It was fine for the two of us, but when my son was needing a wheelchair, things got a little tight. Right now we have a 2000 sq ft ranch style home with a full basement. It's probably more living space than we need, but the basement houses all of my husband's hobbies ... good place for them!
Kelly ... hope covid stays away from you and Tim! And I agree, regardless of political affiliation, it is a win for all women to see that nothing is impossible.
Karen in VA ... where are you?

KJ - lovely pic. Go gurl! I always think of Bea as a future Prime Minister. She would be in the vein of Margaret Thatcher, but hopefully better politics. Her sense of 'She Who Will Be Obeyed' is terrific. We call it 'the world according to Bea'.
Yes, they are very active. Yesterday they also all cycled to the beach the next town over. Their parents regularly go for 100k cycle rides around the South Downs. Very hilly! Edie is in a football team.
I'm cooking Lamb Shanks today in the IP. Haven't had them since we moved here. Don't know why.
Barbara - the UK has lots of beautiful countryside, but not a lot of it is wooded. Surrey, our next door county, has the most trees per sq mile in the UK. A lot of our beauty spots are relatively bare of trees. Open uplands. A lot of the trees were felled in Neolithic times, thousands of years ago, and the land used for sheep grazing. There is a drive to plant more trees. The South Downs was the site of many ancient settlements and long ago lost most of its trees.
A recent tree survey found that there are more trees in people's gardens than in the countryside!

Morning ladies
There was a 4.2 earthquake in Massachusetts and i was sitting here watching TV and felt a shift in the house..that was freaky...
Faith is resting after breakfast and after lunch its shower time..Sean and Jean should be home around 4 or so..
Then home.. thank goodness..3 -
Did the Yoga for Weight Loss DVD. Decided to do that one instead of the balance games since my foot is hurting and I know that’s putting me off balance. No sense doing balance games if I can’t do them properly. Besides, I need some yoga. No formal exercise for tomorrow since I work and then we have bowling. In the evening I have mahjongg.
Barbara – yup, the pool was open. But the cover’s on now, the probes are put away, the water is drained below the tile line. And I’m so sad….:( Until March….. Congrats on being smoke free
Lisa - I sure hope the docs can fix things for you. I don’t think I ever had the popcorn strung for the trees before Thanksgiving. I had it done in June I was so bored.
I can’t seem to access my paystubs from Food Lion online from home. There must be something I’m doing wrong, but even Vince couldn’t figure it out. I can’t believe that I can’t access them from home. When Vince gets his social security, it’s direct deposited but he gets a statement of how much was put in the bank. My paychecks are direct deposited but I don’t know how much each one was. I could look online at our bank account, but I shouldn’t have to. Also, this doesn’t tell me how much was taken out for Social Security, etc. Need to talk to them tomorrow.
Katla – would you please ask your hubby what’s a good cut of meat (beef) that will stay juicy in a crockpot? I just made beef and barley for Vince. I like to make it in the crockpot since I use hulled barley which takes longer to cook (to me, pearled gets too mushy and isn’t as healthy). But every piece of beef I have I find gets dry after being in the crockpot.
Also made more yogurt for myself. I like to drain it overnight so I’m not tempted to have some
KJ – thanks for the update on suebdew. Next time you’re in contact with her, give her my best.
Working on another jigsaw puzzle right now. This one is only 550 pieces, but it has Cookie Monster and I think Vince will like it. Found it at Habitat for Humanity so hope all the pieces are there.

Barbara - I would take the rain 🌧 bet what we had. I think the snow is here now until April.
I quit smoking in my 40th year. I will have 12 years in on May 11th. It sure made a difference in my physical health and the health of my wallet.
Machka - I would love to work 10 hour days and have 3 day weekends year round. I figure Im at work anyway staying a little longer wouldn’t hurt me. I don’t work a 40 hour week though, only 37.5
Lisa - glad you are seeing some positive progression with your health.
It was a busy evening with Lilly, but she is an excellent sleeper and that makes a world of difference! She went to sleep about 830 last night and woke at 830 this morning. I told her she can come anytime if she sleeps like that. She, of course, didn’t understand me but smiled her big smile at me.
Lilly’s Great Grandfather and I were first cousins. He passed in 2016. Her Grandmother was his daughter that passed so suddenly and unexpectedly last year. Her and I were exactly 3 months apart in age. I babysat her Mother for 2 years when she was little and Lilly reminds me of her mother personality wise.
Katla - so happy for you that you have your yoga back.
Kelly - I love your FB post. I cried last night watching Kamala’s speech. She was so inspiring to young girls watching. We have had a female Prime Minister for a very short time, we need another one with a longer term. I hope that isn’t too political.
Thank you all for the good thoughts for my Mom. It is very hard being far away with a sick parent. I was fortunate when my Dad was at his worst I was able to be there for the last few weeks of his life. Right now, even if I could figure it out financially, the province of New Brunswick is still not allowing anyone to enter without isolating for 14 days and my Mom’s nursing home is closed to visitors again.
I can only pray and trust that it’s not too serious and I do get to visit her again sometime soon.
Lanette - I love the house plans.
Allie - I bet 4 won’t come soon enough. I’ve felt a mild earthquake before, it sure is unsettling.
When we built our deck this summer we tried to find a way to put a roof on it but just couldn’t come up with the money for it. We need to figure it out for next year. The first real snow of the season has really proven that.
Miss Lilly will be going home in another 3 or 4 hours. She has been a great source of entertainment this weekend.
Her parents had a couple more small loads to move as of 10pm last night. They were going to take advantage, at my insistence, of her being here to get some unpacking and arranging done this morning.
My daughter slid into a curb yesterday and fears she has done some serious damage to her car. She will find out tomorrow. Her best friend rescued her and spent the night so that today she could take her to get a rental.
I just had a news article pop up that Alex Trebek has passed away. He will be missed.

I got on the scale this morning and was disappointed with what I saw. I haven’t been following my diet and put 10 pounds on recently due mostly to stress eating. I need Pip’s 🥾 boot!! Lol
Seriously though, before all my bloodwork goes bad again I need to lose that 10 (hopefully 20) pounds to stay healthy.
Ragweed allergies really bad today. Nose and eyes affected. I hate having allergies. They seem to be getting worse as I get older!

Thanks Pip! 👍😊1 -
-elections- NO Comments
-small or tiny houses- would be perfect for me alone, but with DH I would need a storage unit and workshop for the pack rat!
Only reasons we have been able to live in the RV -275 sq.ft. Is because we have a storage unit -10x20 for DH&s tools and he has free run of the shop for the park! Lol

Combination allergies and Colitis attack today so just laying low today. Tried to wean off my colitis meds but not gonna work. Comes back every time I try to reduce the dose. Doc is aware and suggested I try that until I can get rid of it completely. It’s a be low dose steroid but only thing g that helps the colitis. I’ll be better tomorrow. Back to daily dose!
For allergies, only thing that works for me is Claritin D. I hate taking that every day but only way I can sleep and breathe at same time.
Oh, well, both controlled with meds that I feel good on. Just afraid of lasting side effects.
Food wise, doing better last 3 days! Thanks for the 🥾 boot 👢 Pip! Lol. Gotta start logging everything again. Best way for me to stay focused!
Bought a new toaster oven/ air fryer/ grill/ baking oven at Sams club. I love it! I can bake again! Made some Keto pumpkin bread in cupcake tin and mini loaf pans. Happy with how they came out! Don’t miss sugar or wheat flour at all. Even DH liked them. Pumpkin was made fresh by me from a pie pumpkin I bought. Toasted the seeds too, which I always loved doing.
Laters ladies!

Good work on the lovely little girl. I know what hard work they are at that age. All our grandchildren were great sleepers. Makes a huge difference to quality of life.

Tracey – congrats on the non-smoking.
Katla – thank your hubby for me. I’m assuming that you need to cut the roast up into squares. The original recipe calls for beef cubes, but I always find them so “dry” So if you cut up the roast, I’m sure that’ll be better. Thank you.

Rita- We have a storage unit and it contains our RV. DH hasn’t been up to travel and the RV is well protected in storage. We had hoped to travel in the RV to see our adult children, but that goal is currently on hold. We want a safe trip with both of us healthy and eager for an adventure. Regarding food intolerance, I suffered from colitis for many years. In my case, the primary issue was lactose intolerance. Now we can buy lactaid milk and lactaid cottage cheese. It has made a difference for me. Cheddar cheese has not been a problem for me. I wish you best luck figuring out what will be welcomed by your digestive system and what you'll have to live without. Lactaid is available in a pill form. I use it if we go out to a restaurant that might cook with milk, butter, or cream. I take it in any situation where lactose might be present. Cheese-cake is a rare treat and lactaid tablets allow me to have some once in a very long while. :flowerforyou:
A long-time friend called me today and we had a lovely conversation. We taught together for many years and we’ve both been retired for quite a while. She and her son are safe and happy.

Katla- i too think not diagnosed have lactose intolerance.. definitely cant do ice cream anymore.. i buy lactose free milk for cereal and i love cheese, but lay low on it..
Here we are on the 8th of November and have the windows wide open,it was a stupendous weekend weatherwise.. i couldnt really get out to enjoy because of Faith..but got Alfie out ..
Going to try some reverese psychology on my son...they are cutting his hours at work..and dont have him working in the font anymore.. the reason im guessing is his looks and hygiene.. he has a scraggly partial beard doesnt keep his nails trimmed, wears dirty clothes and doesnt wash his hair..
Alot of this i know is lack of self esteem and mental illness.. and my DD bless her heart is right.. the more I push ,and it was a light bulb moment for me as my dad did it all the time to Sean and I is he will push away and shut down if we keep harping on him but asking questions might help.. so that is my plan..3 -

Last year at Christmas I found small 4X6 paint by numbers and I sent those to Mom. The sad part is I never know if she likes or even receives what I send as she doesn’t remember getting things and no one at the home let’s me know.
I don’t blame the home, working in one I understand how busy it is and we wouldn’t have time to call or acknowledge for each resident either.

I just got my first letter from my former mother in law since she was moved into the home. I had written to her and someone there wrote a letter for her and she signed it. I was so thrilled to get one from her. She used to write occasionally. She said she would love one of the masks I have been making so I filled a box with some for her and for her husband. I was happy to send them. I
It was so nice that one of the ladies working there took the time and wrote for her. Carl says they like to help her get dressed up- treat her like a Barbie doll- ( at 83 still only gets clothes in the Jr. section)

Did a DVD for the bosu today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Yoga for Weight Loss DVD
Kim – I probably didn’t listen to Vince well. He said that certain states had “until” Friday to count the votes. See, I am not obsessing about the election because I know it’ll take a while before we find out who is president. Honestly (don’t tell Vince this) many times I listen with ½ an ear (like this time). So sorry.
Was at the soup kitchen today then the Green Room. Unfortunately, there aren’t many calls at the Green Room. I bet some people are hesitant to come out. Hopefully, that’ll change in the future.
After the Green Room ran to Aldi to get more eggs and sugar since they are on sale with a minimum. Then realized that the sale for Vince’s cereal goes off Sunday so ran there. Saved almost $12. On the way out of the store met a guy who I know was in the choir at church. He said that he went to church one time since March and half the people weren’t wearing masks. Of course, the choir isn’t singing right now. Father is giving communion to those who want it on the tongue. To me, everyone should get it in the hand. But who am I???? I guess it’ll be a while before I go to church (isn’t that sad?) because I don’t care to be with people who won’t wear a mask
KJ – I hope you don’t have to close. What those kiddos will miss without you!
Debbie – I wouldn’t call myself a compulsive shopper. But I do love a bargain.
Allie – I hope all goes well for Tracy. I know only too well the heartbreak of infertility.
Kelly – welcome! Be sure to come back so we can get to know you better
Made soup for me this morning and just now made meatloaves for later in the week and to freeze
Didn’t realize that I had planned to give Vince ravioli tonight, thought I was going to give him waffles. But that’s next week. So I made the waffles and will just freeze them. Less work for me for next week, that’s for sure
Work tomorrow. After work, I’ll do some shopping (milk which is cheapest there, some Laughing Cow that’s on sale) and then go to the dollar store for poster board to put on the bottom of the jigsaw puzzle so I can start to glue it to frame.

We went to church today- second in in months( we went a few weeks back in June or July when they first opened up but they closed and did parking lot service but I didn't want to sit in my car and listen through my cell phone, so have been watching online the rest of the time)
It is uncomfortable to go in and every pew has at least someone, except for one-I don't count the front pew on each side because you know, Baptist never sit on the front row ) even though there are signs saying to only use every other one and only two or three others are wearing masks. This week there were not as many people so we were six feet apart but still, I only saw two people with masks on besides myself and my husband. I kept mine on the whole time, he took his off after we sat down. We(or at least I) will continue to go most Sundays if not every Sunday but will continue to wear a mask through out the whole service. I know there will be more people starting to come back, especially with the holidays. I need to keep myself safe/healthy so I can go see my parents and also mother in law(the pain in the butt that she is) when I want/need to. I told my parents as I was leaving their house this morning that the two of them are the biggest reason I stay at home, go out very rarely and mask up when I do.
