Denise called. She's not coming down for Christmas. Said she's too freaked out about this C-19 stuff. I do believe she's freaked out. One of the children at her daycare tested positive. I forgot to ask her if she got tested. I would think that everyone there should be tested and then tested on a regular basis. I don't know, we're planning to leave Monday for Iowa.

Made it through the procedure just fine and woke up pretty quick.. had a large dinner and finally got something to drink.. have a 4 hr window to finish my water...
They have me hooked up to saline drip for before and after the angiogram so that the dye doesnt damage the kidneys..and i guess sometime tomorrow they transport me to Yale.. it is about 35 min ride away and is one of the best hospitals in the north east..so i have confidence in them.

Katla - apparently our positive case has made visitors rethink their visits, we only had 5 who insisted on visiting today still. There is a positive side to everything I guess.
I agree, I miss the light as well.

Barbara - I haven’t put on a hit from the dryer robe in a long time. Oh the memories. We didn’t have an electric dryer but would warm clothes by the wood stove before putting them on.

Allie - you’ve been in my thoughts and prayers, thank you for keeping us updated.

Lisa - glad you finally got your meds, hope they work fast.

Heather - Happy Anniversary to you and Johnny. I hope he has presents for you too. 😉

Barbie - I put up Christmas lights and two little trees on Sunday in hopes they would brighten someone’s day. I think we can use all the “pretty” we can get this year. This is the earliest I have ever put any up.

Vicki - “I just want someone who wants to work and shows up when scheduled”. I think you ask too much. 😂 After scheduling for over 25 years I understand your frustration.

So far we still only have the one positive case in our home. I truly pray it stays that way. We have to go 30 days from the 17th without another positive to be out of restrictions. It will be a long haul, but it’s better than the alternative.

I finished my stocking for the puppy last night and am starting one for my husband tonight. His is going Robbie some gnomes decorating a Christmas tree. I think I can make it fun.

We still don’t know for sure if we will have the puppy to go watch this weekend or not. We should find out this evening or tomorrow. Our daughter was concerned she would be too much for us to handle. We have reminded her we are not that old yet.

I have many friends and family on Facebook, people I know to be smart, educated people. This whole pandemic thing has made me question so many of them. They share the anti-masking posts, cite how it’s all a hoax, etc, etc. I just want to scream at them and tell them that I can’t believe how stupid they are. I would remove them as friends but the rest of the years I’ve known them they aren’t like this. I understand people are getting tired and frustrated by all of the restrictions and the different changes all the time are confusing but it’s not that hard to put a mask on and wash your hands!

My cousin yesterday angered me because she asked me how many cases had to be in our home before I didn’t have to work. I told her that I am essential as I do payroll for the whole facility and pay the vendors. I also told her that I will be trained in feeding and toileting the residents so that if we have too many staff out sick I can help. She told me I shouldn’t put myself at risk that way and should refuse to do it. I know my cousin to be a kind and loving person and couldn’t believe what I was reading. I responded to her and told her that I would be mighty pissed if my Mom starved to death or had to sit in her own soil when there was someone capable but just not willing to do it. That silenced her.

I am just so tired of it all. Thanks for letting me vent.

Good evening all:

Just returned from our drive through food pantry tonight. Not sure yet how many served but it was quite steady.It all went very smoothly tonight. We had an adequate numberofhelper. It was good to see some of the regulars. Luckily it started off around 60 degrees but windy. Cooled off as evening wore on but to too bad. I dressed just right for it.

Allie-glad they are moving along with tests. Easier to deal with things when you know what you are looking at exactly. Sounds like they are being very thorough.

Julie-good to hear you are making progress on school issues.

Two more staff tested for covid today. Staff member who went to ER last night did not have to stay. Gave her some breathing treatments and a mega dose of steroids. She did bit of work from home today (I think to help her think of something else). We let staff who are positive and work from home use their own judgement about amount they work. We cover up to 80 hours of leave time before they have to tap into their leave banks.

Have staff pulling together budget for next year. I will review it. Want them to know process for when I retire some time next year. I have talked with Business Administrator about basics, she is following basic layout as past so should be pretty close to right but I will clarify fine points.

Looking forward to weekend and getting some more stuff done. I am getting different areas organized. Actually, I have done a series of these steps the last couple of years. I clear what I can at one time and go back to the stuff and decide on more, if that makes sense.

Going to take my vitamins and get ready for bed.

Tracey, It has been making me sad that there are so many foolish people in the US and now you tell me that there are similar people in Canada. I am grateful that I have so few people to talk to. It limits the annoying things I hear.

Jake is happy with his new haircut and happy that he could dodge tricky topics when talking to the stylist while she cut his hair.

Katla, I'm sorry that the darker days are a problem to you. I love the shorter days and especially being able to take walks in the dark when no one else is out so I don't have to stop and make conversation.

Our pup is gone.

We are trying to think of all the goofy things he did and how much we loved him. But it is still really sad. I think my 14 year old has been crying for a couple hours now.

I am thankful, however, that he was sick when he was and not at some other time. The whole time he has been sick, because of the pandemic, someone has been home with him. Lately, most of us are home much of the time, so he has not lacked for watchful eyes and snuggles.

It is such a privilege to be there at his last breath. Very hard, but I am thankful that we had that opportunity.

Went to the eye doctor today- knew it had been a while but didn't realize until she checked my chart that it had been four years since I have been there-since my second cataract surgery.
Good news is, my eyes haven't changed so just ordered sun glasses
Bad news- she found a small tear in my retina and is sending me over to Kaiser to have them look at it- see if they want to laser it or just keep an eye on it. She thinks that is what caused the floaters I have been dealing with.
Went and did our weekly shopping. Usually it is super easy shopping, no crowds but today was crazy, like shopping on a Saturday. At least we are done for the week and maybe even next week(already got everything I think we will need for Thanksgiving and if not, husband can get it at his store) We will go to the Mexican market- small avocados for 4 for $1.

Allie ... so glad to see you posting. You have good heart; praying that it is made better.

The quarantine my son was placed under on Saturday was lifted. Turned out his exposure was not really exposure and was not something he should have been quarantined for. Not sure what that was all about. However, his house ... all the houses under his agency's care ... are going back on lockdown tomorrow due to the outbreak in Western New York. He can come home for Thanksgiving if he stays home for a minimum of 6 days and is tested for covid on the 4th day. That's assuming of course the we take him back.

Rant.

We did not get to see my son on Sunday due to the imposed quarantine mentioned above that was then lifted. He asked to FaceTime with me in the evening. What he shared with his dad and I left us very disturbed. Long story short. The weekend staff is below sub-par. The weekend before, I may have shared that he went to the ER for acute urinary retention due, in part, because he had been left lying in bed for over 12-13 hours without an opportunity to urinate and developed painful spasms. He shared that he had been left in bed again this weekend, even after we had gone over all the problems of doing so the weekend before. In fact the woman who took him to the ER was the one who left him lay in bed again, 14 hours this time. After his choking incident in August, and a subsequent investigation, protocols were put in place to prevent him from choking again. On Sunday, every protocol was ignored by this aide along with another person. When he asked the aide to feed him dinner because it was late and his muscle control was poor, something everyone agreed to and he has been encouraged by the agency to request ... he was told "no, I'm busy, feed yourself." A second aide sat on the couch, overheard the conversation, and also refused him. Because he had not been fed all day and was hungry, he fed himself and then called me. Refusing to feed someone when asked, essentially humiliating him, and repeatedly leave a person laying in bed is abusive in nature. We made this very clear to the agency and those in charge. Consequently, two new investigations are being conducted by the Justice Center and "emergency protocols" are in place while those investigations are occurring. The two aides in question are still working there, and by the way, take their masks off and have told my son they are useless. I told him to call the police the next time they remove their masks. The simple thing would be to bring him home and forget the whole idea of a group home. But this wouldn't solve the long-term problem of finding care for him. We have made it clear that their response to this mistreatment will determine our next steps. Which, as you can guess, will be legal action. I suspect that it will take a lawsuit to finally convince the agency and the state to make needed changes. Sad. Just very sad.

Covid Crap

Our community is now in the "orange zone," Gov. Cuomo's micro cluster designations ...so church services can only be 33% capacity or 25 people, whichever is less. We will be back to online services only. The church staff is considering how we'll celebrate Christmas if we can't have church services. It is only a matter of days until I am furloughed again when we hit "red zone" and I expect that after Thanksgiving. Schools are closed as of tomorrow and only delivery/curbside for restaurants unless they do outdoor dining... which is sort of difficult in the northeast in the late fall and winter. I did the last of my in-person shopping on Tuesday. Until this peaks in our area, I'll only do delivery or curbside pick-up. Too many people in the stores and they're getting crazy. There are metrics, of course, that would allow activities to begin again, but no one seems to think that is going to happen anytime soon.

Flea ... very sorry that you've had to say goodbye to your pup. Tears are just a part of it regardless of your age. My 21 year old sobbed in my arms last summer when we lost his beloved Zeke.

Debbie I had a torn retina a few years ago and had it repaired as soon as I could I did not want to risk a detached retina which requires even more intensive intervention. The retinologist told me if it would detach I would not see as well out of that eye.

Reading a book I got from the library titled Beating the Flu. I got it because I wanted to know if there was more I could do to keep well. I found it an interesting read. It is motivating me to be watching my diet better and to eat even more fruits and veggies so I can strengthen my immune system.

How do you feel about travelling. It's quite a distance, isn't it? Lots of contact with people at service stations, restaurants, etc.?

Barbie: In years past the long dark days of winter were really difficult for me. We’ve done a lot of light bulb changing and can make our home daylight bright if we need a mood boost.
