I am surprised there isn't a shortage on the good, thick healing lotions! I go through the stuff like crazy; especially this year with the extra hand washing, sanitizing, and cleaning.

I've rarely found that lotion does anything for me. I buy it, use it for a while, lose interest because it hasn't really helped the way I think it should, and leave it on the shelf to go stale.

I was using some on the back of my hands because I noticed they had started to look "old" with wrinkly skin. The lotion "helped" while it was on and fresh but as soon as I washed my hands, they were back to looking "old" with wrinkly skin.

Then I made the discovery that if I was hydrated the skin on the back of my hands looked smooth. So now, any time the back of my hands start to look wrinkly, I drink a glass of water.

That said, recently it seems that some lotions may be helping my cat scratches heal faster. For them, first I was my hands well, then I apply hand sanitiser or rubbing alcohol, and then the lotion. So it's hard to tell.

    What does lotion do?

I should probably do a little bit of research. Could be that what I would like it to do and what it actually does, what it is actually meant for, are two different things! :)

I am back from running errands. I went to two grocery stores, and the first one didn't have what I wanted, medium grain brown rice. The second store was closer to home and had exactly what I needed. WIN!

I had to look up "caution" in British slang. The only slang meaning I knew of "caution" was in High School when boys would say among themselves a girl was a caution if they might get their hands slapped for attempting to touch forbidden places. I like the British meaning also.
‘You are a caution’ means you crack me up with your humour 😂
I keep forgetting that our sayings ar different 😂

    Happy Belated Thanksgiving Day....

Charsuzy- I love my rebounder but I don't have the stability bar on mine. I do have it on my bosu, tho

@exermom thanks for sharing you have a bosu because I've never heard of that and like learning what others do to get exercise. I need new ideas. I'm wanting to keep it interesting at home and want to keep a "home gym" type thing all ready to go to motivate me to get exercise every day. Exercising every day is a totally new concept and I'm making that change.

How do you like the bosu?

    <3

    Progress note for today:
    11/28 at 10:57PM
    8,685 steps
    3.73 miles
    435 calories burned
    Fasting from 9:30PM

    o:)

I have a home gym in our "basement" (basement in quotes because houses in Tasmania tend to have garages under the house. We've converted the garage to a basement)

    We've got:
    - a pair of bicycles on trainers connected to Zwift set up and ready to ride.
    - a rowing machine
    - a treadmill
    - a small weight bench with weights
    - and upstairs I've got a few small weights and various bands.

But all of that is for winter or bad weather days. Mostly we exercise outside. I walk as a method of transportation and recreation. I run, although I need to build up to this again. We also cycle. And I'm hoping to set something up so I can do some weights and band work in our patio outside over the summer.

At work, I climb stairs because I work in a 10-storey building. So I'll take a quick break and go climbing now and then.

In the past, I've joined yoga and spinning classes. They can be good for motivation.

We also throw a few extras into the mix now and then ... hiking, swimming, canoeing (which we're hoping to do this summer), snow shoeing, cross country skiing (not here, but I did in Canada), etc.

It can be helpful to have a goal.

I'm on Strava and lately they've had smaller challenges. Pre-2020 they had quite big challenges - cycling and running long distances. But this year, they've decided to play the role of motivator. So one of the challenges they've had is to walk 50 km in the month, and I've done that the last 2 months. It does get me out there. When I think I won't walk one day, I remember the challenge and decide to go. :)

Machka - I think I would get along with Malory (was that her name) on Family Ties best.

Evelyn - my eldest chose The Munster’s too because they aren’t judg-y.

Kate in UK - it sure is a frustrating situation we’re all in, hugs to you.

I miss smiles. I miss it when you hold a door for someone, I miss it on children and I especially miss when, before they were all in isolation, the residents being able to see the smiles of those caring for them. I haven’t seen a resident for two weeks now.

Kate -it’s nice your family was able to help and make the decorating easier.

Carol - In my family we received gifts that were needs and wants. In my husbands family it was wants. Since our girls have grown, we buy them things they wouldn’t think to buy themselves but they would appreciate.
This year we have been buying a collection from the Bradford Exchange for your eldest, it is a frivolous gift but something she will treasure forever.
For our youngest this year we are buying her and her husband heated throws. They are doing winter fires in their backyard so I’ll buy them and extension cord, hot chocolate, mugs and s’mores makings as a couple gift and then blankets as individual gifts. We are also buying them each an album to use with the record player we got her last year.
    I love gift giving.

Annie - when my Mom was starting to go down hill fast with Alzheimer’s, we were concerned about her driving and trying to come up with a solution. She called me one night as she was upset that her car wasn’t working and my brother, the mechanic, was too busy to look at it. I called my brother, Mom had ran out of gas and he just used not looking at it as an excuse to keep her home and safe. We then didn’t take her to get her licence renewed.
I don’t know how you do it with your Father enabling her. I’m sorry you’re in the midst of this.

Rita - I think too many of us don’t tell those we love how we feel. It causes us all sorts of health issues.

We, as a couple, don’t go out very often. I have a couple friends that I do things with as I’m an extrovert and need that. We have been very fortunate since May to be able to see our daughters and grandchildren. We are not on lockdown but aren’t to have visitors in our homes. Bars, restaurants and Casinos are open though.🤨. Even if we weren’t restricted, I would have cancelled any plans until after this weeks Covid test as that puts me past 14 days of being in close contact with one of the positives at work.

Normally, I won’t tell people what I want for Christmas as I like the surprise, but this year I have given ideas and I will be disappointed if I don’t get them. Truthfully though, I love when people put thought into a gift for me.

Beth - I have never purchased a Pay per View anything but am considering buying the Kiss 2020 Goodbye - KISS concert on New Years Eve as a gift for my husband. I think it’s something he would really enjoy and I would tolerate.

Fae - do you think hypnosis would work to stop snoring? I have been through two sleep studies and do not have sleep apnea, but have about 700 snoring occurrences both times. It makes it difficult for my husband.

Rebecca - My daughter at age 5 learned “Please Daddy Don’t get Drunk this Christmas” and sang it everywhere. I don’t even know where she learned the song! Funnily enough Rodger doesn’t drink very often and she has never even seen him drunk. That song was replaced with Conway Twitty’s, “Ding a Ling the Christmas Bell”.

Our Christmas Eve dinner is always finger foods, meats and cheeses and eaten while we watch “It’s a Wonderful Life”. It is the only Christmas movie my husband watches.

Does anyone remember when Hallmark used to have the Hallmark Christmas Special with a nice story, long special Hallmark Commercials throughout? One of my favourites was called Santa and Pete. It told thee story of Christmas traditions around the world, James Earl Jones was in it. I wish they would bring these back, all of the Hallmark movies now are the same and this year there is a lot of product placement in them.

Well I have been reading and making notes all weekend and just now caught up.

:) This morning we picked up our first order of groceries from QFC. The order was fairly small because we were experimenting to see how it would work. It was great and very easy. I knew before we went that there was one item on the list not available but we got everything else we ordered. Jake was so relieved that neither of us had to go into the store. We will do this again.

:) We have made our decisions based on what the health care professionals and scientists are recommending even if there is no law or government directive. We are unable to control the actions of others but we can make good decisions for our own safety.

:) Today Jake called his daughter in California and thanked her for her good sense in not wanting to come here for Thanksgiving or to pressure us or her mother to travel to see her. They celebrated with just the family that lives in their house.

:) My after dark walk tonight was especially nice with the full moon. We live in a manufactured home park with houses close together and a light on a the front of each yard and tall pole lights on most corners. The streets are paved well and there are no curbs to fall off. Many people have put up holiday lights. No one else is out walking and in an hour's walk I see no more than two cars. I am so fortunate to live where I live.

:) Tomorrow I will post the new thread for December and put the link at the bottom of this thread.

I also enjoy after dark walks. We live in a fairly safe neighborhood, with, as you say, houses close together. I have been enjoying the Christmas lights and decorations. A lot of people are going all out this year, early. We have a subdivision not too far from us where every house is really decorated. They take canned goods donations. Usually people drive through, but I am thinking this year, I might go ahead and walk through. It will be a good walk and a lot of fun.

    Take care.

I can walk after dark, and don't mind it too much. But I prefer walking in daylight! I love being out in the sun.

However, my husband can't walk in the dark. His vestibular issues, double vision, and change in feeling and function of his left leg since the brain injury make it too dangerous for him. He has falls under decent conditions, I hate to think how he'd be when he couldn't see where he was walking.

    @Machka9

You've got a nice variety of things you can do for exercise! I've not heard of Strava. I have a bike but am not (yet) an avid rider. I loved canoeing and kayaking when I could do it in Sacramento, CA years ago but it's been awhile since I've done that out on a lake. I like having the upper body workout and I enjoy rowing machines when I've been a member of a gym.

It must be nice to have a whole space in your garage for a "gym". I think it's great!

It's so nice to hear what others are doing, thanks :)

Allie: I am so happy to see you making comments. Sorry about the bad sleep time. I hope you can get that working better soon.

Barbara: “Red letter year . . .” I am among many who are hoping for a red-letter year, too, and the red letter is full of good news.

Jacquiroround1: Welcome to a great group of supportive women. Post often and get to know us. :flowerforyou:

(((Rita))) I hope your daughter eventually lets go of resentment so that you can reconnect without dredging up old sorrows.

Faetta: I did some selective pruning today and have one Alberta Spruce ready to decorate for Christmas outdoors. The other will be brought indoors in a week or two.

Lanette: I like the excuse—“I can’t. I have plans with my dog.“

Barbie: Thank you for posting the link to our December thread tomorrow.

Flea: Your kitty looks like the royal cat on her velvet bed. :star:

Tracey: I love the Christmas lights on your home! Snow on the ground is absolutely amazing!

I was easily able to get TP at Safeway, as well as the dog food we prefer. I was also able to find medium grain brown rice there. WIN! That rice is my personal favorite.

DH is not feeling great today and has already gone up to bed. I’m going to be right behind him.

Flea, we had a cat that also loved sleeping under the Christmas tree. He also liked playing with the balls that were low down. I eventually stopped decorating the bottom 6 inches or so, I don't know if he liked it better, but I sure liked not having to hunt down the decorations!
I started a wee bit of decorating today. We have a cabinet in our powder room that has glass doors. I have some plastic cut outs in a number of different shapes, for different holidays and seasons, so today I put some decorations on the doors. I think it looks nice. Hubby has had the good sense to ignore it. He feels it's too early to do any decorating. For me this afternoon it was that or vacuum, and I just was not feeling the vacuuming! lol That will wait for tomorrow. Have to wash the floors upstairs tomorrow too.
Finally got the masks made! Wore a couple of them at work last week and realized I needed to make some small changes, so I was really glad that I hadn't finished all of them because that would have meant many times more work! As it was, I only had to take apart a bit on two of them, and the rest were very easy. I may make more this style, I really do like it, they are comfortable and do work up pretty quickly. And I still have some elastic!
It's very late, must head for the shower and bed. Hope everyone has a great Monday! I'm looking forward to a new start in the new month, this month has been a challenge, to say the least!

We have our Christmas decorations stored up in the garage attic. I am hoping to bring them down in the next couple of days. I love seeing our house decorated with favorites. I have to admit that it is more fun to put them up than it is to put them all away. <3

We've entered the time of uncertainty.

Seems like every year in about late November anything remotely like "usual" shows on TV become uncertain and irregular ... even more uncertain and irregular than usual ... for 2-3 months.

This is why we've got so many DVDs now. When there's absolutely nothing on, we can select a DVD.

For a few months now, we've had Midsommer Murders on Monday nights, but it appears to be gone now.

    Greetings from SFL.

RVRita – It’s my hope eventually your daughter grows up a little and realizes we all do the best we can when life throws us challenges. Big hug to you. My mother and I were opposites too. My mom was the one who would hold on to all of the sadness and I am the one who feels everyone does the best they know at the time the incident(s) happen. Hindsight is always 20/20 – it’s only good as a learning tool, not as a permanent fixture on our lives. My strategy with my mom when she started opening up old wounds would be to steer the conversation in a different direction. I stopped commenting, defending, etc. At one point I simply told her I refuse to live in the past, understand her feelings, but will not partake in those conversations unless we were talking about good memories. Once I expressed how I felt our conversations were much more positive.

Tina – I am so sorry for your mom’s loss. Also hoping the specialist is able to figure out what is wrong and a course of action. I wish I lived closer I would drop off meals. 😊 What car did you buy? I am glad you were able to negotiate most of it from home. When I was still playing with dolls and Barbies I had the dream of the white-picket fence, a husband, and two children. As I grew up I realized I did not want children. I am very happy with my decision.

Heather – Glad you had a nice Zoom with the grands. Even if it was exhausting.

Terri – I love learning about regional slang. My twist.....caution you may p your pants! LOL…..

Flea – Purrfect spot for kitty. Hidden well but can see all of the activity going on. 😊

Tracey – I love your outdoor displays.

Work Update – I did not log in yesterday. This is momentous for me. I will be logging in early to catch up and get up to speed.

    Best to all,
    SuziQ – SFL
