KJ Kelly, oh I empathize with you on the trials and tribulations of pottie training! All my sons were late with pottie proficiency. My eldest was in Japan when he was learning, and so heck all his friends were learning. Unfortunately all my Japanese mommas would let their kids just pee on a bush, or thru a grate on the side of the street. (um son you aren't a puppy, you hold it till we get home")! Also teaching him to aim was interesting because the ladies stalls out in the grocery or department stores had "squatters" so I had to lift him up, and face his body downward into the tiled hole of death. If I didn't he would have just peed on the wall... So, that was fun and LOUD! Nothing like telling your child you're holding over a toilet in the floor to relax, just breathe, no Momma won't drop you.
My middle son had cloth diapers, and a handy diaper service, but at one point I bought some padded undies, but he didn't seem to understand those were NOT diapers. So I bought the cheapest diapers I could find and put them on his body. Oh he hated those, and had one traumatic session while trying to get the cheap diapers off his body, a drop of pooh landed on his cheek. So not to have that experience again, he started using the pottie. Much to my relief.
My youngest had no interest in learning. So I just stopped putting diapers on him. I had little "play stations" around the living room and toy room. I laid beach towels around them to catch any accidents. I told him if he wanted to leave one toy station and move to another, he had to pee in the pottie (little sit down plastic one). Like Thomas The Train. I gave him sippy cup after sippy cup, so I knew he'd either get bored of the toys at one station, or have to pee sooner or later. I had a huge chart with times, stations, and if he peed on the towels he got a sad face, and if he peed in the pottie he got a happy face. At the end of the day we'd count up the tally. If he got a certain number of happy faces= happy mommy. But a certain number of sad faces = sad disappointed mommy. It was a week of PEE, and he did learn if he wanted to play with all his toys, he needed to pee in the pottie.
I swear the connection between a little boys brain and to his peepee, is something us moms just needed to order, or something. But the piece part never came, or we just didn't know the company to order it from!

oh, those squatter toilets in Japan!!! Thankfully, we didn't have to deal with many of them when we were there for two weeks. The few times we did were so terrible for my husband. It was right before he went in for his hip replacement surgery- Trying to squat with really bad hips was so hard on him.

Peach- I turned 54 on Wednesday, the 18th. It wasn't a great day. Tim is not a birthday person. To him, at our age, birthdays just mean we are closer to death. Exasperating man! But seriously, I was so exhausted by the end of the day, Wednesday. That was the day of "poopy accidents" So when Tim asked if I wanted to order dinner from somewhere, I told him that he could order for himself, but I was just going to have wine and go to bed. lol KJ (Kelly)8

M – I’m quite sure the pain is a stress fracture from exercise.
When Vince went to VA to help Colby move to Iowa, he found out that at hotels they don’t have breakfasts. What I mean is that they don’t have a buffet like they used to do, they only have limited things, and there’s nothing that he liked so he just had a banana. So I’m taking oatmeal for me and poptarts (that’s what he wanted!) for Vince. I have some of the almond milk in individual containers so I’ll take that since it doesn’t need refrigeration. So we probably won’t even have to leave the hotel room!
Have the healthy pumpkin pie in the oven right now. Hope Colby likes it. I know that I do
The microwave crapped out, I think the magnetron went. The first thing Vince thought of was “how will Cheryl heat up Lexi’s food?” To be honest, that didn’t cross my mind. Fortunately, we have a microwave that we had downstairs from when we lived in the apartment here in NC so Vince brought that up. Yes, it’s a counter microwave, not over the oven, but it works. Isn’t it something how we get used to appliances?
Made the bed that Steve stayed in then got together the Christmas gifts I have made/bought already. I have a list. Maybe when Vince is in a better mood I’ll ask him what else we should get people. I heard on the radio today that you should order gifts early.
Barbara – for a while there I used to get upset at Denise and her lack of Christmas (like helping cook, we had to practically beg her to come here, her ungratefulness about her gifts). But I realized it only served for me to get upset. So now I’m trying not to get upset. I truly believe that it’ll come back to her. PJ just might say something when he gets older.
Allie – how wonderful! You may feel like you got run over by a train now, but in a few weeks you’ll feel like a new woman
Jamisina – welcome!
Pip – cool bike! Do you have the lights on the tires sequenced so that it looks like the tires are spinning? Do you use a Light-A-Rama controller? That’s how we get the lights on our “fence” to look like they’re chasing
KJ – a “healthy” pumpkin pie just doesn’t have the lard/butter/Crisco crust but a crust of oatmeal. I guess that’s the main difference.
M – there is a drive thru light display here at Charlott Motorspeedway. We went once a few years ago and might very well go again this year. I remember the last time we went Vince had a lot of conversations with their display engineer.
MFP’s projected weight: I forget what it keeps telling me I’d weigh because there is no way on this green earth I’d ever weigh that. Well, IF I starved myself, I might. Of course I’d look terrible and feel terrible. To me, it just ain’t worth it

Allie-good to hear you are through the surgery. Heal well-and take care of yourself.
Talk of potty training-my husband actually took the lead with our sons on that. He got our oldest on track with it at right around the 2 1/2 year mark. With second son, husband again took lead and big brother was also helpful (three year age difference helped).
Sorry some of you are having the husband communication problems. Men and women do think differently. I got to point with mine that I didn't offer advice on how to do something until he asked (or I did the job my way when he wasn't there). Most of those differences just weren't worth the energy to me.
Got walk in this morning before rain hit and tackled several small tasks that I kept ignoring. Checked Amazon and the Instapot Airfryer I had been looking at for DIL was on sale for $50 off so I ordered and shipped it to her house. I will be sending a separate box with a couple of small things she can open Christmas day. Now I have to decide which toaster/air fryer oven I want to get for myself. Too many brands. I do not believe I would use a pressure cooker.
Short work week with Thanksgiving this week. We are also closed on Friday. I have doctor's appoint Wednesday morning and may just go ahead and take whole day off. Will see how productive Monday and Tuesday are.
Enjoy the rest of your day.

KJ - Thank you for the compliment! Actually, at the moment we both feel like old crocks. My gluteal tendonopathy is very bothersome and so is his back/hip problem. We spend a lot of time just moaning in tandem! Getting old isn't for wimps. But it is also a privilege.
Last night (I'm awake in the night and can't sleep) we had a huge row about politics. We think roughly the same politically, but there are differences about personalities, and it escalated into one of our spats. It doesn't happen often, but it usually ends with him in a sulk.
He'll be alright in the morning.
Happy belated birthday, by the way.
I'm supposed to get on the phone on the dot of 8.15 in the morning to make a 'same day' doctor appointment. We'll see how that goes! Usually you just get an engaged signal. Monday is especially bad, so I might wait until Tuesday. I wrote a Google review last year of the service as 'not fit for purpose'.
Now going to read a bit before I nod off again. Had a horrible dream about a blocked and leaking toilet.

When I broke a toe a number of years ago, I also wore stiff-soled shoes. They provide your foot with support while healing.
Why not give your Birkenstocks (your stiffest soled shoes?) a try and see if they are comfortable and ease the pain?

Adding photos from our couple weeks away almost a month ago now!
https://www.flickr.com/photos/machka-bb/
On Oct 28, we took a trip into the northern town of Deloraine and had a look at the little shops in town, then went just out of town to a place called Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm where we had pancakes with raspberries. The farm has a little path around a pond to the edge of where the raspberries are grown.
One of the towns we stayed in celebrates aspects of the town and the people who lived there. At least a couple of our ladies here should be able to identify what those big white things are ... only they aren't usually that big!

I had my pressure cooker for two years before I started using it.BUT, after I started using it, I use it about every other day. LOVE my air fryer and use it daily. I wish I had started using both of them the day I got them(Christmas gifts from my husband).

(((KJ))): Happy 54th Birthday you sweet young thing! I’m sorry Tim is not a birthday person. You deserve a birthday treat & he deserves Pip’s boot. :grumble:
We had a productive day. DH got our bedroom window shades in order. Some of the lines that pull them up or let them down weren’t working properly and he fixed them all. I went down to the boat and set the heaters on low heat for the winter. They circulate warm air and keep the boat clean and dry inside.
We heard from our son and DDIL. They’ve adopted a puppy. His picture reminds me of the dog DDIL had when she and our son first met. Sammy was their matchmaker back then. I don’t know what the new dog will be named. I’m looking forward to finding out.

Happy Birthday Kelly!
Allie, so glad to hear from you!
Beth, can't help but think that it's unfortunate that Allie doesn't live near you, you know your son would get care that would be above and beyond! I'm happy for him that he has found his advocacy voice, I'm sure that it's because of the example that you and your hubby have set for him.
Flea, I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet pooch, so hard when we lose our furbabies, I'm glad you were able to be with him.
Pip, love the lights on the bike!
So many more that I wanted to comment on, but the mind fails and I have been reading for a few days now but not had time to comment. Some days barely had time to read, but really wanted to stay caught up with that part at least!
Our Covid numbers have been going up so our PHO (Provincial Health Officer) has asked us to travel only if essential and masks must be worn indoors in retail and other locations. If you work in an office and have plexiglass shields or can be socially distanced, you can forgo the mask while at your desk, but when you are walking in common areas, the mask must be on. She has also mandated that spin and cycle fit classes be suspended, no hot yoga and no HIIT classes either. When I went to reserve my spot at the Y, I saw that the cycle fit class that is at the same time as my core strength class was cancelled. This is only supposed to be for the next two weeks, we do need to get a handle on the numbers, flatten that damn curve again. It was originally just for the lower mainland (Vancouver and area) but our numbers on the Island are also climbing as they are in the whole province, so she has decided it needs to be province wide. I'm okay with it.
We were supposed to have a council meeting for our strata, last week we said we would, but everyone had to be masked and it would only be the council. Then the new rules came down, hubby and I suggested zoom or google meet, a couple other members suggested out in the parking lot or someone's garage. I said no to both of those, I'm not sitting out in the cold and dark, it's too cold and dark right now! Anyway, we've decided to postpone it for now, there is nothing pressing that needs to be discussed so we will wait. We don't absolutely have to have one, the only one that is required is the AGM and that doesn't need to be til July or August. We have had that one outside for three years now! We made it a bit of a party, had a bbq out there and did pot luck. It was quite enjoyable. We didn't do potluck this past August, just had the meeting, but outside and socially distant.
I am having major issues with my printer. We had winter tires put on our car last week and there was a rebate offer. I filled out everything online and then I had to scan my receipt into the computer, the scanner said "nope, don't wanna...." I tried everything I knew to do to fix it, nothing worked. Admittedly, my expertise is at best limited. Hubby spent the better part of Friday fixing the darn thing, but he got it working. Great, says I as I went to finish the rebate paperwork. At the end of it, I tried to print out the "print this page for your records" and the printer said "nope, don't wanna.....". I just told hubby that today, as I wanted him to have one day of blissful ignorance. He was working on it this afternoon, we'll see what happens. The annoying part is that it won't say what the problem is, it just keeps coming up "printing error". He even brought his printer up and tried it and got the same message. Have I ever mentioned how much I love technology?? Altho, without it I wouldn't be in contact with all of you lovely ladies!
I must go, getting near bed time. Didn't sleep worth a darn last night, hoping that sheer exhaustion will kick in tonite....
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: dogs to powerline, livestream church, swooshed off burner grates then returned to ammonia to soak away decades of grease from the corners.
Bonus: bicycle and helmet into car for donating.
Get to do: take BP, dogs to powerline, wipe down left side of Aunt Elsie’s stove with the last of the ammonia, shift burner grates to get last of gunk, hang out with repair guy, email info to grantwriter, watch STAS Day 18 (go sniff), submit grant pics and receipts, test Bluetooth speaker so can do BB&B or T’ai Chi from voice recordings, make experimental almond paste, declutter sideboard, practice new dances (I ain’t never gonna love nobody but Cornell Crawford (Alley cat), A Little Less Broken, One margarita, I’m so used to being broke, All Night, Sleeping with the Devil, Nothing but You, Blame it on my beating heart, Homesick); finish mulching flowerbed; broadcast cover crop seed in veg garden areas, invest another 10 minutes in prepping living trust, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, find and configure a screen time popup, figure out where to plant naked lady bulbs. Reward: inventory seeds, plan next year’s garden, wishlist replenishments
New Ways November

High heat spray paint requires temps of at least 50F. It never got above 45 in the garage so couldn’t spray paint the OSPHO’d back and underburner steel. AGAIN a lesson in timing and procrastination. The stove will work anyway, so that’s a project for the next warm dry day.
Allie – Halelujah! So happy to see you post! Rest well, let other people take care of you for a change and you’ll heal soon.
Heather “… the uninsured cost of . . . surgery” Small wonder most US bankruptcies are due medical expen$e$. Glad that blocked toilet was only a bad dream!
Welcome @jamisina66 in Jamie the Californian in Italy!

Michele safe travels.
Katla no gas mask, open garage and boy are you right! Cleared my sinuses right up! Best was soaking the grease encrusted burner grates in plastic garbage bag overnight. Decades of burned on grease just swooshed right off. Soaking the stubborn corners another day and now I’m out of ammonia again. ;} Will son and DDIL share puppy pics?
Barbie yes there are those who see this public health crisis as political. I feel for the businesses and their workers who’ve been hurt. But all it will take is for someone they love to die for them to understand.
Pip you light us all up!
Kelly “… usually angry about something else, in pain …” bingo. Grateful that his pain seems to be abating, he’s been much more active and even took the dogs down to the power line for the 3rd time since July. Have to remember to be thankful he’s more active, as it usually means more work for me Sorry your birthday was so rough. Hope you can have a very merry un-birthday soon!
Tracey loved hearing about you mother’s pink Pyrex bowl and your father’s not going anywhere without a jackknife in his pocket. Thanks for understanding! Does your treadle sewing machine work?
Flea I have faith that the timing will work out. Your son may not think he is ready but when the puppy arrives it will help heal his heart. We are never ready to lose them, new ones don’t replace them, but do make it easier to face each day without them. As for your husband, good you can look at where his attitude comes from. Sometimes I find it hard to detach from Joe’s negativity. IMHO, you can’t MAKE someone happy, but sometimes they can sure make you miserable, if you let them. If I die before Joe, the widows will pounce, he’s a handsome guy.
Heather “… pluck up the courage to cancel …” exchange with SIL. Couragia! You can do this. Hope your sentimental DH goes along
Debbie love driving around looking at Christmas lights, one tradition I don’t have to adapt or give up this year.
Rita :love the pic!
Rebecca “…the connection between a little boy’s brain and to his …” “…part never came…”
Fae that frosty photo tells me you need more layers
Terri what is a cricket stump? Thought Machka’s giant sculptures might have been cricket wickets, but to be honest I don’t know what those are either
Ginny “(did the job my way when he wasn’t there) yep. That’s another reason why I vacuum when he goes to town
Evelyn sounds like the “printer error” problem is not with your or DH’s printer, but with the file somehow Could your antivirus or ad blocking software be blocking something from the form? Can you either print it to a file, then print from that, or take a screenshot, paste it into a word document and print it from there?
Short on steps, need to get up and move. Craving international coffee crème caramel and cookies. Better to move.

The wicket is the whole thing ... three stumps plus two bails on top.
There are two of them, one at either end of the pitch.
Does that clear it up for you.

My first born is 53 today wow where did time go, she’s best daughter ever. Strong, caring, clever. She doesn't have it easy 2 kids with disabilities but helps others when she can, recently took in a friend who was being evicted to prevent her being on the street. Love her to bits.

Love my pressure cooker, got the first when we married 54 years ago, used it for everything, from pork chops sterilising baby bottles. (That was a disaster of melted plastic) Another time the ceiling was covered in ham and lentil soup. When I replaced it after many years with a newer one it was a relief as design is different. Still use for bacon or ham joints, soup and veggies.

Morning, afternoon and evening all...
KJ - happy belated birthday, dear heart. Doesn't sound like it was loads of fun at all... but hopefully the "naked weekends" will help the training for your little guys. Anything else I say after that would just sound weird.
Allie - thinking of you, girl, hope you've been able to rest and heal. Glad you're family's stepping up. Bluntly, they needed to--you've always stepped up for them, and it's their turn.
Wanted to say thank you to you ladies who are dealing with the cranky husbands, especially when you give the underlying reasons. It helps me look at Corey's communications differently than I might have otherwise. Mostly in terms of "is he tired, is he hurting, or is he just being a jerk?" when he's grumpy or poky. The tired and hurty times are reasonably frequent these days, but he's also at the end of an extremely busy summer season, and has worked 55-60 hours a week every week since April. During the couple months I was so ill, he also took on all the housework, as well, not to mention the worry he dealt with. Hope the five days off over the holiday will let him rest up a bit.
Health-wise, I'm personally getting better every day. My resting heart rate has dropped by more than ten beats per minute now, from 100 at the beginning of November to 89 as of this morning. My weight has dropped by 19 pounds, all water-weight. The edema has subsided quite a bit - it's still present, but not nearly as bad, and the pain is almost entirely gone. I made bread this morning for the first time in months... it's a good sign.
Thinking about all of you, thankful for having you in my life.
Love,
Lisa in AR

What would I do now without my Instant Pot. I use it nearly every day! I love that I don't have to watch it and it keeps my food warm for me. We eat a lot of stews/curries/tagines, but I also use it regularly to parboil potatoes, boil eggs, cook brown rice, and make yoghurt.
Won't be using it today as we are having Roasted Mediterranean Vegetables with Feta. But I will have the frozen brown rice I cooked in it previously.
Waiting for the doctor to call. The receptionist actually called me to make a phone appointment with him. I had already been trying to get through for 30 minutes. Grrr! Their communication system is rubbish.

The doc rang, but had nothing much to say as one of the liver tests is not back yet. I will check it online after the 3rd. If it's normal I probably won't get a call. It's for ethanol - alcohol. The other liver test was completely normal.
So iron is a bit out of kilter, but not terrible. Highish serum ferritin, lowish iron % serritin. Could be the after effects of a virus, could be familial, could be liver. We shall wait and see. He said he will retest ferritin in a few months if the liver test comes back normal.
Might go out for a stroll soon with DH. Bit grey, but not windy.
