@KeriA Thank you so much I really did feel good that week, I felt a little off on the weekend and it has continued into this week. We get chinooks here so weather is up and down so migraines are a thing. It is hard to keep up on everyone's posts, trying to figure the forum out. It's been a few days and there were 70 new posts that is out standing.
last time I weighed in I was down 4 pounds - even on my off days I have tracked my calories which has limited me from consuming more than I usually would have the amount of food is sometimes outstanding! Anyway hoping i feel better tomorrow for my morning workout. I work from home so I always say later...but I know that if I do not do it in the morning its not getting done as I also homeschool my kiddo! In these times so much to do so very little time in the day.
positive vibes for tomorrow as I do a weigh in as it has been a week!1 -
I haven’t been to the gym as much this week because I’ve been tired and catching up on sleep....and with my horrible metabolism (I gain when I eat over 1400-1500 cals..and I don’t exercise in that day). Sooo I’m up 3 lbs from the start of Jan grrrr. Time to buckle down for the last 10 days. It’s been tougher cooking for everyone this month, or take out when tired. No bad stuff for the rest of this month, need to up my water too...5

Yesterday was a good day. There was a box of donuts at work, only one left, and I DIDN'T EAT IT!!! So many times it ran though my head to just have it, it isn't a big deal if I track it (didn't have the calories budgeted for it). So I resisted and resisted and didn't eat it!!! If I want one that bad I will get a fresh one of my favorite kind and budget it into my calories for the day. Not just allow my impulse control to derail me yet again. Sometimes I think it is impulse control that I struggle with more than actually eating. It is resisting and staying rational about food choices. Just because I could buy a brand new car doesn't mean I have it in the budget to do it, so why do I think food is any different. I need to put my common sense to work on food related issues as well as real world related issues.
Exactly! From now on, if I'm feeling the pull of empty tasty calories, I'm going to picture a car salesman trying to sell me something attractive that I can't really afford and remind myself it's not in the budget. Some people are able to tell themselves that "nothing tastes as good as thin feels" but resisting certain foods at certain times is a lesson in fortitude sometimes.3 -
@Xandriad Welcome, We are close to the same age. It sounds like you have a lot going on and have had to deal with a lot of judgmental people. I had to look up some of the conditions. I’d recommend doing 23andme with the health features. Might give you some clues to some choices. I have spine issues, and do not get the shots because the steroids made it worse. The 23andme helped me a lot to figure out some things with food issues. Your daily metabolism may be slow like mine. I can’t eat more than 1400 cals or I gain. It is harder to lose weight once I have put it on. Yes inflammation adds to it as a vicious cycle, and my metabolism is slower but I am still eating too much for my slow metabolism. My sig other can eat 3 times what I do but he has a high metabolism and is always moving. I figure 1 lb can take a day to add and 4-5 days to shed. Meaning I can eat 3500 cals in an hour..say f I ate a whole pizza .but it would take 8 hours to walk it off.... Not an equal game unfortunately. I wish I could go back 13 years and make the progress I have the last 2 years...I’m down about 40 lbs.. part of that was to see what I was doing to sabatoge myself, I was in denial of how much I was eating....I’m constantly working on portion control. I also have a bit of a reverse body image, I was always small, and was in denial of how big I was....and still am...2

INTERMITTENT PEP TALK #011921-
Here is something I try to keep in mind as we look at spending a very long time slowly whittling the fat off our bodies. It is going to take time. It is going to take patience. It is going to take putting yourself first. It is going to take kindness for yourself when you don't live up to every goal or exacting standard and then it takes discipline to get up and get right back into it. But you can do it. We can do it.
A year ago, I wouldn't have believed that I would quarantine on my property for most of a year, having minimal contact with others outside my immediate family. But guess what. That happened and I have survived. We have survived. It's been almost a year. Certainly after all of that, I've got what it takes to do what I need to become thinner, stronger, healthier.
I don't know if there will ever be a "back to normal" again after 2020. Someday in the near future, society will return to it's social self, and people will gather in the parks and restaurants. So let's use this year to concentrate on getting to a "better than normal" self and perhaps getting into those skinny clothes we've kept tucked away for "someday".6 -
@Xandriad I've just read your post and wanted to welcome you to this tribe of strong women with a virtual hug! You have a lot on your plate! I completely agree that the journey is better with support along the way x Look forward to cheering you on and getting to know you through your posts!

whenever I have cut out sugar or sweets i always have dreams that i'm eating a chocolate chip cookie! Happened last night. I swear I can "taste" that cookie while dreaming. so funny. Never had a dream where I'm eating broccoli!

Wednesday weigh in
Highest weight: 435 (11/1/18)--lost 50 lbs. by the end of 2018 but got off track and gained back almost 31 lbs.
SW: 415.8 (4/17/19)
12/31: 175.6
1/6: 174.4
1/13: 175.4
1/20: 170.6
1/27:
1/31:
Jan. GW: 172
GW: 160 (then reevaluate)
Weekly exercise goals:
- exercise bike 5 times per week: 5/5
- strength training 2 times per week: 2/2
- chair yoga 4 times per week: 4/4
- step ups on aerobic step platform twice a day at least 3 times per week: 4/3
- bonus: 1 hike through the snow
I had a good week with hitting my exercise goals. I'm working on getting my duration on the exercise bike back up since being sick. The scale also seemed to indicate the water weight is gone...for now, at least.
My parents are still getting better. The nurse that has been visiting my dad said she will now come once a week instead of twice so that's progress.
Hope you all have a good rest of the week!7 -
Hello 2021!!! I have never been happier for a new year.
Age: 39 Height: 5'6"
Highest: 272.2 (August 2019)
10/1: 239.4
11/1: 238.0
12/1: 236.7
01/04/21: 239.1
01/13/21: 239.1
01/20/21: 234.5
January Goal: 229 - 10lbs a month for the first 4 months of the year.
Thankfully, a major loss!!! The water retention from junk and TOM is finally gone and I can start moving forward to my goals. I don’t think I will be able to hit my first month goal of 10lbs down but I am NOT going to let the discourage me. I am finally moving in the right direction and want to keep it going. I had a thought this morning about goals, I usually try to put in what I am going to do or not do but I think I am going to try and set my goal for this week to be worded differently. My goal for this week is to have one sweet and one meal out. No more, no less. This way I can look forward to something and think about if a craving pops up, is what I really want to use my weekly sweet or meal out on, or is it something that will pass as my demon just trying to tempt me. That will allow me to feel like I can have treats and enjoy a meal out with my hubby while keeping my focus where it needs to be. The last 3 days have been good days and I need to ensure I keep those good days moving. I WANT THIS, for me and not allow anything “normal” derail me because I’m making a new normal, a healthier normal.

Hang in there. Keep coming back and stick with it, even small improvements. I have been struggling all month and having a good streak right now so I know there can be an end to the bad for better days ahead.2 -
@LisaGetsMoving , in regards to INTERMITTENT PEP TALK #011921-
Love your post, thank you!!! Yes, patience has always been a virtue that I need to work on. Honesty is always the challenge as well. Did I really log all the calories I ate? Did I really account for all the calories that were in that take-out meal? There has been a lot of changes in the last year but we have survived and we will survive the changes we are making to our food choices (don't like the term diet) and our movement. We will be better in the end and need to keep remembering that.2 -
It's been an involuntary Dry January for most of the month - hubs has been on antibiotics, and I abstained since he had to. But, as of today, he finished his course of antibiotics, it's his 30th birthday, AND we have a new President, so I think one celebratory drink this evening is in order. I've already logged and planned for it - it's some homemade eggnog I've had aging in the fridge all year. I am SO looking forward to it.7
-
@goal06082021 - enjoy your eggnog toast tonight. Lots to celebrate!! 🗽1
-
Today is going to be a great day! It's cold outside but I don't care, I'm gonna walk my @ss off!5
-
@KeriA it's amazingly thoughtful of you to read and respond to so many posts! @iloveeggnog put it beautifully - thank you for your kindness.
@goal06082021 me too on the dry January (mainly for the sake of calories) but I felt today was a good day to toast the new US President with a couple of gin and slimline tonics. If we weren't in the middle of a pandemic the pubs would have been rammed here in Dublin, an Irish Catholic President is all the country can talk about!!
I've started one of the MFP exercise plans (I think it's a Premium feature). I am NOT a fan of strength training at all, I get so bored with reps, but I thought this way I will have an extra motivator - because I log in every day for the forums, tracking food etc, I can't dodge the workout reminders! And MFP will log the calories automatically for you when you complete a session, although I think it's really overestimated them for me. I try not to eat them back anyway.
Hope everyone has a great day5 -

I don't drink, but like you, I celebrated the new president too. I probably celebrated the old one getting on the chopper to leave the white house more. 😁 Happy birthday hubs!!!7 -
@KMC55 Sounds like you're on track. I actually have one sweet treat and one takeout meal every Sat. It gives me something to look forward to, and I find I don't crave sweets or junk food. I actually told my husband on Sat that the slice of pie I had was almost too sweet. Never said that before. Plus, I haven't had chips since Dec. I haven't craved them, and I love potato chips. It's amazing how the pallet changes.
Keep pressing on!5 -
@emmclean I was also happy to see Trump fly off, good things ahead!! Sadly couldn't raise a glass of bubbly, our country has prohibition during lockdown...which was extended to 15th February. Very good for keeping to health goals though!!

I can really relate to this. I'm going to think about the new car thing. I'm fairly sensible with my money budget but I seem to assume my food budget is elastic (like my pants!). Thanks for giving me something to think about.5 -
Yesterday I was out running errands and I was getting really hungry. I looked through a few restaurants' nutrition guide, but decided to go home and just make some scrambled eggs. It was not an easy decision. I really wanted a chicken biscuit 😂9

Name: Rhonda
Age: 31
Height: 5' 7"
Starting weight: 210lbs
Current goal: 190lbs
Ultimate goal: 160lbs
1/15 - 210lbs
1/21 - 204lbs
So I couldn't wait for tomorrow to step on the scale. I was really surprised to see myself down 6lbs in 6 days. Oh man did I feel like a drug addict with withdrawal. I just cut sugar out of my diet cold turkey. I went from eating candy bars, debbie cakes, and soda everyday to nothing. Yesterday was the first day I started feeling better. I'm excited to see my future weight-ins as I continue this new journey.
My goal for January and February:
- Get to 190lbs
- No soda!
- Fast food only once a week(having sushi this Saturday as my cheat meal)
- Go on a walk after a meal
- NO boredom eating!
6 -
After dinner eating is my downfall. Last night ended up eating chocolates, one or two turned into 10. Seriously?????? 10. One good thing is that I did mark it down and was able to take ownership. I read that others have the same issue in the evening. Think I will scroll back again and see your strategies. I am almost two months in and want to keep up the momentum. So...... here I go.... RESET. Have a great day everyone3

I was surprised when CNN said he would be the second Catholic President of the US, but then again the colonizers of this country were mostly Protestant, so I guess that makes sense.
Regarding strength training - I've been using trainer-led workout videos that focus on time rather than reps, maybe that would work better for you? Framing it as "I have to do this for the next 30 seconds," instead of "I have to do this 30 more times." I don't have Premium so I don't know what those plans look like. More reps isn't always more better, even moreso if that means you decide it's boring and stop doing it entirely, and resistance training is so important especially for women - it really helps to reduce the risk of osteoporosis later in life.
@changeforeverlj I don't know if all the networks did this but PBS played Sinatra's My Way over the footage of the plane taking off. That was way funnier than it had any right to be, I'm still chuckling about it.3 -

Good for you for doing your strength training even though it is boring for you. I love it because I can see the results. Maybe some of your favorite music would help? Keep up the great work!1 -
@changeforeverlj there were rumours of prohibition in Ireland too, we currently have the fastest growing rate of COVID-19 cases in Europe thanks to hardly anyone restricting their Christmas plans. It didn't happen though, alcohol is still very much on sale. I wouldn't have minded skipping booze until I can meet up with friends again. Glad you're coping ok with it!
@goal06082021 I think you're spot on with the time duration rather than reps. The MFP plan is based on 30 sec intervals and now you mention it, that might be an added factor of why I'm finding it more enjoyable (2 sessions in, ha!).
@Spotteddingo thanks for the encouragement! Music will help 100%, I should have put some on for my first session. Last night I look up residence in the living room while my husband played video games, it was entertaining!2 -
Umm.....can we keep politics out of this thread....it would be greatly appreciated. Especially being negative to one side or the other. General facts fine, but put downs, I’m trying to stay tuned out....I live in DC area, and mentally drained by BOTH sides. Although I don’t believe in censorship....so if you must.7

Good luck with this. I think people are just excited that the White House has returned to some form of normalcy...at least I am. We've heard nonsense for 4 years, which was extremely draining. Give it a few days for us to properly celebrate this much needed change.
Stay safe!8
