IF you could have anything, what would you have for dinner tonight?- my initial thought was "anything cooked by someone else". But I LOVE Tina's answer; so I would change my answer to some fresh seafood, ceviche, bloody mary on a beach, away from the crowds, at some mom and pop shack in a warm location.
Travel - Ugh! My list would be endless! I am one of those people that gets excited about places, even reading about the mundane things that the citizens of said region have to do. In no particular order: Bhutan, Eze,France, Iceland, Sweden, Svalbard (Hello Penny!), Bali, Sri Lanka, Morocco, ....

Too many kids here to write more. KJ

"Get to do"s and "chose well"s
Chose well: dogs to power line, Library, Post Office, Freddie’s, gas, Grocery Outlet, recycling
Bonus: ANOTHER load laundry, brisk stroll with C & T
Get to do: take BP, dogs to powerline, call S, minutes, grant info followup to Bill and ask for Ronda’s email address, research effective conflict resolution, ask Howard and Hill about roster numbering system, index mutual aid files, watch STAS Day 20, submit grant pics and receipts, make experimental almond paste, cancel VSP, update itunes & AAA payment info, declutter sideboard, practice new dances (Pure Movies to Wine, Beer, Whiskey, Sleeping with the Devil, I ain’t never gonna love nobody but Cornell Crawford (Alley cat), A Little Less Broken, One Margarita, I’m so used to being broke, All Night, Nothing but You, Blame it on my beating heart, Homesick); finish mulching flowerbed; broadcast cover crop seed in veg garden areas, invest another 10 minutes in prepping living trust, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, find and configure a screen time popup, figure out where to plant naked lady bulbs, and soon as it warms up above 50 and dries out below 60% humidity I’ll tape and spray paint those rusted areas of Aunt Elsie’s stove. Reconcile Joe’s EOB’s Thrivent shows only 2263.48 so far, next BGBS ask Terry about GB’s FD firetruck tax levy – contacts, media, advocate???, Friday: call Dr. for rx, Wild Rivers (541 247 3514) for dog wash/nail trim appointments, Reward: inventory seeds, plan next year’s garden, wishlist replenishments,
    Happier January:
14: Take a different route and see what you notice: Oops, forgot to come back from recycling on Carpenterville Rd. Find another route back from Howard’s this afternoon.
15: Eat healthy food which really nourishes you today: back to veg prep!!!

Mfp trouble yesterday, web wouldn’t sync diary with phone, wouldn’t allow editing of entries. This morning, there were 3 pages that I hadn’t seen before posting yesterday. Things that make you go “hmm…”

Meg sorry to hear about Rex.
Julie agree about the benefits of having a young doctor, but sometimes it is startling to see how young they look ;)
    Kylia
    hooray for the microwave repair, boo for having to replace the Neptunes and BRAVA for adjusting your attitude. Likely that is the only thing you really can do about that work situation. :}
Rita when in March is your bday? I’m a March baby too. Fingers X’d for that loan. Predatory loan rates are the devil’s  spawn :rage:
Sue in WA thankful your DB is home from ICU. Trust you don’t have chickens to lure that bobcat in? Well done on the walking!
Terri what you said about personal liberty instead of personal responsibility. Wish there would be a grass roots uprising of the latter. Oh wait, it must begin with me ?!?
Michele Brava for turning your frustrating day into a productive one. Look forward to seeing your macramé.
Katla pm’d you about vaccinations in your county, but maybe it got lost in yesterday’s glitches?
Barbie thankful that policeman spared you hours of waiting before the ultimate disappointment.
Machka so hard to see it in black and white. Was hoping, like Heather that good (insurance acceptance, income, freedom to travel or move) could come from it, then saw your hoops and red tape cartoon. How long is a piece of string, a very zen approach. ((hugs))
Evelyn I too fantasized a little about winning the lottery after Lisa’s post. 1: find a good CPA knowledgeable in taxes and a good lawyer experienced in trusts/foundations, they’ll keep each other honest. 2: set up a scholarship trust at the credit union for my god daughter, the nieces, nephews and their children; setup a charitable foundation at the bank for the donations. Likewise those two trust officers would keep eyes on each other. 3: get the local geologist to survey our property for a building site with ocean view and build a second house there, all one level, wide doorways, all the elder needs but with my dream art moderne kitchen and Aunt Elsie’s stove. That way Joe wouldn’t have to be disrupted by remodeling, we could live here ‘til ‘twere done, then redo this manufactured as a guest house/vacation rental/caregiver property. Whew, somebody is a little too ocd when daydreaming!
Debby in VA you and your daughters have been much in my thoughts. Glad to see you pop in.

    Where would I like to go? Back to Israel with a University sponsored group, back to Scotland’s highlands, cruise to Kaui, tour around the Alps, cruise to the Greek islands, out to the moon, any road trip with Joe. Only in my dreams. ;}

Halfway through January whoosh! Time to get with the strengthening program.

    Lighter, lovelies!

Just went out for my first 5k walk in a week! Weather beautiful, so plenty were out promenading by the sea. We wore our masks on the busier stretches. It was really lovely to see the human race. :D

I'm like Terri, a Saga cruise is now my bag. A suite of course! Iceland is first on our bucket list, but don't mind really. I love the days at sea just as much as the destinations. I also yearn for a city break to Lyon or Bordeaux, or Dresden. If I were to go on a long haul again, I want to visit South America again, or French Canada. Or San Francisco and the Pacific Coast. But, as soon as we can, we are back on that ship! I could also put up with a World Cruise if I had the money.

I started my travel bucket list a few years ago and have checked a few off. Still on the list:

    African Safari
Machu Picchu and a tour of Peruvian food
Amalfi Coast - I had planned a trip there with my mother for 2020, but of course it got cancelled.
    Iceland
Morocco - Probably will have to be in a tour group. The mister doesn't want to go and I've heard it's not advised for women to go alone
    Egypt
    The Amazon
    Buenos Aires
    Panama
I want to spend more time in Bratislava. We did a day trip there from Vienna few years ago and it was wonderful. The food was excellent.
    SCUBA in Thailand
    SCUBA - Great Barrier Reef
I'm always up for a diving trip to Fiji. So far, that's my favorite dive location.
    Maldives - Relaxing and SCUBA
(most SCUBA vacations are fairly luxurious for us)

I'd like to do an e-bike beer and food tour of Franconia in Germany too. The mister brought it up, but Franconian food is some of the best food I've ever had. We would do this on our own with recommendations from friends.

I don't think there is enough time or money for me to go everywhere I'd love to go.

Pip: The home you’re looking at is lovely. :star:

Barbara: I found the message. Thank you! I’ll call their number to find out what they can tell me. Some time back I tried to get information from them and was not successful. Maybe this time will be the charm. It is almost 8 am. I’ll be able to call fairly soon.

Machka: At this time, I would not be willing to travel long distances by air. I’ll have to wait for quite some time before I trust my health “to the friendly skies.” Circulated air is not germ free. I would love to see my daughter & family, and my son and his family. We’ve discussed going in our RV, but DH is not enthusiastic about that possibility because our RV has required a trip to the mechanic after every time we have travelled in it. I would consider driving my car and staying at hotels in the future. DH would like to trade our RV in for something else.

I appreciate the advice from both Barbara and Machka. I’ll call the county health department in a little while. It is currently 8:12 am. I think 9 am is a good time to try the call.

Last night I participated in a Zoom call with two very dear friends. We all taught together years ago and have stayed in touch. Colleen engineered the whole thing. I am grateful that she did.

Bananas - If you do decide to buy the Instant Pot, then I recommend the Jeffrey Eisner book, Step By Step Guide To The Instant Pot. I don't have it myself, but it would have saved me several weeks of intensive research into methods and recipes.

Barbara: I just called our county health department and was given some useful information. An actual date for beginning Covid 19 vaccinations is January 23 for people who are 65+. The location is still a mystery. Now I have a phone number for the person who is in charge of the event. Thanks for your message, it was a great help. :flowerforyou:

Hooray! Maybe it is because we are in the capitol, but they are trying to get shots in arms. My husband was able to go to the fairgrounds this morning and get the first jab. I got teary when I saw the image of his vaccination card. I am so thankful. I have been very worried about what would happen to him should he get the virus.

Lisa- You made me laugh! My husband often says my warranty ran out when he married me! I was almost 50😉 Sonce we have been together since I was 31, another friend says he has heard of trying out, but not wearing out before committing!🤣

Allie- rest as you can. Prayers!

I always wanted to travel around the world. These days my thoughts are closer to home. The Smokies call my name often. At some point in time hopefully, I will travel the US.

    More later

HI everyone. Wow there are a lot of posts to read! I cannot find out what happened with Allie, can someone fill me in please?

Allie: what ever is going on that I have missed, my prayers are with you. It seems you need healing! So my best healing thoughts are coming your way.

Rory: So nice to see you! How is DH? And your brother? We will have to figure out a way to continue our occasional lunches! :)

Well the snow has stopped but the wind still is howling outside. We got about 3" but with 50-60 mph winds, it was total white out conditions this morning. I couldn't sleep at all last night, so slept in really late today and will have to make up some time doing real work tomorrow!

Boy, I'm having a hard time thinking of ONE meal. It might be: My mac & cheese...a whole baking dish full. Or, more reasonably: rib eye steak, king crab legs, broccoli with hollandaise sauce, Caesar salad (with the anchovies, of course), and tiramisu. A good stiff gin and tonic before hand and a nice pinot noir with dinner. Then someone would cart me out in a wheelbarrow!

I've had no ill effects from the vaccination; my arm isn't even sore!

Today my phone calendar popped up with "OUT DATE!" Today was DH's original out date. I'm so glad he got to come home early and that he didn't have to try to fly here in the blizzard! We are blessed. Over 3/4 of the inmates in his prison have been diagnosed with Covid. We have only heard of three who were taken to hospital. But still...

Take care ladies. I have missed you all!

Did 30 minutes of HIIT today. The plan for tomorrow is to do Denise Austin’s fat blasting Yoga DVD

Barbie – how disappointing! At least the policeman told you before you sat in line for hours and hours. I understand that’s what happened in FL. People sat in line for hours and hours only to be told that they ran out of vaccine

M – (((BIG HUG))) You and Rori are unbelievable

Oh, I’m so thrilled. They are now giving the vaccine to anyone 65 and older. I just got thru to make my appointment (after MANY tries) and I’m going Tuesday!!! Then getting the second shot on Feb. 9. Vince gave me a look and said “in FL?” No, I don’t care. I want the vaccine. We’ll still have time to get there. The race isn’t until the 13th. So if we have to leave on the 10th, so be it. But I’m getting the vaccine!!! To me, even if we had to miss the race, I would rather do that and get the vaccine. But we won’t have to. Oh, Tuesday can’t come soon enough for me. Other people who have gotten it at the same place I will have said that there wasn’t much of a wait at all, things went pretty well. I think this is the first time ever that I’ve been excited to get a needle. This pandemic has produced lots of first. First time I’ve ever been glad to be older….lol

PLUS...I am working next Thurs (the day I was supposed to go to the dentist but mistakenly went yesterday). Well, I called to cancel the appt and they had an opening at 9:30 on Tuesday! So it was a blessing in disguise that I made that mistake

Picked up my inserts. The one felt funny, like it was rubbing against my shoe. So the MD made an adjustment and now they feel fine. Then went to the Salvation Army. I didn't realize they closed at 5. Boy, were there a lot of people there buying a lot! Then went to Kohl's thinking that the pants I ordered from Amazon and need to return should be shipped at Amazon, only it's a UPS shipment. So I'll probably take them to UPS tomorrow.

Barbara – It may be a while before I get to the macramé. I probably want to do one or two ornaments first just to get it down. But I’m thinking that’ll be something different.

Where would I like to go? Most any place. I haven’t been able to do a lot of traveling. Vince traveled a lot for work while I was home with the kids. Now he doesn’t want to travel. That’s one of the reasons we got the pool. If I don’t get to go away, at least I have the pool.

Pip – I hope you get the condo

Katla – how wonderful that they could give you an actual date. I called yesterday (before they lowered it to 65) and they told me that they have no idea when it’ll be lowered. And then it was lowered to over 65 that afternoon.

Flea – congrats to your husband. That’s the first time I’ve heard of a vaccination card. Wonder if everyone gets it? He got it when he got the first shot?

    Jomc – welcome

Vince is taking down the trees. The Star Trek tree came down today. I packed up all the Christmas linens. Honestly, there weren't nearly as many out this year since we didn’t have as many people here.

Rori-Low key can be very good. After my husband died, I admit I felt a bit bad I didn’t have him around to buy me stuff for birthday and Christmas (even if it was just me telling him what to get). I now buy myself for those events that I think he would have like to get for me.

Barbara-Shingles vaccines gave me a very sore, hot arm for a few days. Also just general feeling of blah for a few days. A bit like a mild flu. Not intolerable but glad I got them over long weekends and didn’t have to work!

Julie-slow movement is better than no movement!

Debbie-So sorry to hear about your father. Glad you and the rest of the family are improving.

Kate UK-I had a 65 minute walk Sunday and it said 447 calories. If you go under exercise you should be able to tell it to recognize walk of longer than 15 minutes and set exercise goals for the week. I don't know if that is really accurate, but I typically don't eat all of them back and my weight does ok.

Machka-sorry to hear about your husband’s assessment. However, it can be good to have confirmation and not question if you are imagining things. I hope he is coping with it.

    Allie-continued prayers.

Very busy this week and had evening zoom commitments to boot.

Food—Actually, I would cherish my mother’s homemade chicken and noodles and one of her cherry pies. The steak, etc., I can always get-but mama’s cooking? Nope. And while I can make very decent chicken and noodles when I choose to—hers were truly magnificent.

Places to travel? I would like to go to Ireland and Scotland and do a more detailed visit to England (mainly stayed around my son’s base RAF Lakenheath0, got to many of the small villages, Cambridge and London-but would like to see more. Right now—I could go for anywhere out of town that didn’t have restrictions!

Vaccines-starting 80 and over here next week. My age group (65 and older) tentatively scheduled for February 8. Of course, it all depends on how much is sent out. Also heard today that the reserve doses they said early this week they were going to send out have already been sent so there is no large infusion coming. Don’t know what that does with everything. Nothing to do but to wait.

    Take care all,

"So, you're grounded right now. No international travel. Even crossing state borders seems dicey.

You could spend this enforced layover wallowing in your own wanderlust-driven misery, which would be reasonable. Or, you could take the opportunity to better yourself, to gain new skills and qualifications to ensure that the next time you leave Australia's shores you'll get far more out of the experience than you would have before.

This enforced break is the ideal time to "upskill", to learn to do things you previously couldn't, to open up new ways of seeing, new ways of doing, and new ways of appreciating."

My husband and I did a lot of travelling up to early 2018 ... and then it all came to a screeching halt.

If we could travel again the first thing I'd do is to fly to the mainland and see how my husband did with that. There are several places I'd like to see again, and I'd love to do at least one of the rail journeys: https://journeybeyondrail.com.au/

Then perhaps New Zealand. I would love to spend a couple weeks there.

Then we would give Canada a go ... to see my family. I expect I'd have to create an itinerary there with the shortest times in the air as possible.

If he was OK with travelling, our list included travel by air, train and bicycle:

    Japan - again but more
    South Korea
    UK - again but more
    France - again but more
    Switzerland - again but more
    Italy
    Serbia
    Greece
    Romania
The train across Russia - Trans-Siberian Railway

And then perhaps without the bicycles various other spots around the world.

If/when we move to Canada, I'd like to move to the lower mainland BC/Vancouver Island area, but I would like to spend some time exploring Quebec and the Maritimes.

Yes. They called it his "golden ticket." It has the date for his second shot. If he doesn't have the ticket, he doesn't get the second shot.

He's all right. He thinks he's still improving and will continue to do so. He's got all sorts of plans for things he'd like to do and he's enthusiastic about trying things. :)

I will keep encouraging him ... even though I have my doubts that some of his plans will happen. I figure it would be worse to discourage him and have him lose hope and enthusiasm.

After all, I wasn't sure if we'd pull off the canoeing thing but he was enthusiastic, and I approached it step by step (a lot more planning on my part than there used to be) and we got there! :)
