I really blew it on my eating today. I made my version of a pig in a blanket for lunch to use up some weisswurst and used the extra croissants to make nutella stuffed croissants. I had one. Then I saw that I have an entire drawer of the fridge dedicated to various nuts and seeds. So, to use some of those, I made a very delectable sugared pecan, cashew, and almond mix. I just made those my dinner and called it a day. Next time I want to get rid of nuts, I'll make nut butter. That is so much healthier.

Welcome Tina in AZ and Jennifer in Edmonton!

Rebecca - Athena is so adorable. I like the second picture where it looks like she's cheering. She just looks so happy!

Julie - I wish I could visit you and have espresso at a nice little cafe together. You sound like you could use some company. Hang in there!

Tracey - After my first two physical therapy appointments for my core last summer, I could barely walk. The PT told me it was residual pain from moving differently. It did subside in a day or two and was never so bad after the remaining appointments, so there's hope. It sounds like your cousin could use a patient ear. Breaking the rules seems like a good risk in this case.

I'm able to make it through an entire leg workout without passing out now. That's a positive achievement. I actually ran 2 miles the other day, but my knee was not happy with that...which is a completely new bodily complaint!

My heart rate is mostly back to normal and I think any shortness of breath I'm feeling now is likely allergy related. I get my CBC done in early February, so it'll be interesting to see my iron levels.

I think I'm going to start writing a book. Now that I've declared it out loud, I have to do it.

Rebecca - Love those Athena pictures. That child is so photogenic.

Katla - Yay for finally having new glasses.

The wind is howling around the the house tonight. It makes me cold just listening to it. Think I will go find my warm bed.

Everyone take care Sue in WA

Katla, glasses in the mailbox and car paid off? Woohoo!!
    Flea, puppy is just adorable!
Rebecca, Athena makes a wonderful valentine's model!
Tracey, an in person visit is definitely called for! Keeping your cousin in my thoughts...
Official wi day today, down 1.6, but I was up for awhile, so still not down to pre-covid. That's okay, I'm at least moving in the right direction! I was craving brownies today, so decided to make some. I forgot to set the timer on the oven, I kept thinking they must be done soon, but never bothered getting up to actually check thinking the timer would go off "any time now". In my defense, I was watching the news.... Anyway, when I did check them, they were overdone. I sort of managed to salvage some of them, had to cut off about an inch all the way around, they are a bit dry, but not bad. Sort of eased my craving, but I think I'll have to try again tomorrow. I did manage to control myself and not snack on them all night, so I'm calling that a victory! I have gone three days without snacking, feeling kinda proud of me!
$10,000 to spend? I think I'd get someone to do over our backyard. It was left in a "natural" state, so no landscaping or anything. We've done a bit, but what we wanted to do isn't possible as there is a large tree in the forest next door that would prevent us getting material into the backyard to finish it. And it's much to difficult to haul it in by hand. Well, too difficult for two bad backs and a bad heart (his, mine is fine). Ah well, we can still dream.... One of these days the tree will fall down (hopefully along the fence and not on our house) and then we will be able to do what we want! The owners of aforementioned forest were supposed to be taking the tree down, but we have heard nothing since an arborist that they hired talked to hubby. They have been put on notice by our strata council that the tree is dangerous so if it does come crashing into our house, they will have to pay for the damages. That will be cold comfort..... We have been pretty nervous in some of the wind storms that have been happening. I thought I had a photo of it on my computer, but apparently not. I will try to remember to take one and post it, it's quite interesting to see what mother nature can accomplish!
Anyway, it's getting late so I must get off the computer! Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Waiting for news from Allie. Have I missed a post? Hope she is ok. <3

Katla - Hooray! Congratulations on both things. Especially the glasses. :D

Horrible sleep last night, as in, not much. No reason, just active brain. :/
I used the earlier part of the night to amend my Waitrose order that is coming tomorrow and book another one for two weeks time. That time span seems to suit us. Some things imported from the EU are out of stock. :#

    Hi,
I had to close curtains on big windows last night. I am not sure if it was the wind or just the general cold, but dining room, living room, and new room were cold compared to rest of house. Grateful for insulating curtains as those rooms warmed up within 30 mins by just closing them. Will reopen when the sun comes back out. I think I am strange because I feel the house isn't happy if the curtains stay closed too much.
Migraine this morning. I am actually hoping we are slow today at work. I have a few things to catch up on.
    Katla Yay! Glasses are wonderful!
Evelyn Great job on downward scale. I think mine is stuck which is better than going up!

Stay safe wherever you are. You are IMPORTANT!

Julie if you can keep intake light and balanced without tracking, brava! I cannot. I need to both plan (intended) meals and track/revise to reflect actual consumption to keep me even remotely honest. Thanks for the Trevor clip, I snorted my tea.
    Tracey :
Your cousin’s reconstructive surgeries sound extensive. Was just wondering if her memory issues could be a reaction to the anesthesia. I’m so sorry she had to suffer those delays. I’ve had skin cancer surgeries 4 times, 3 were Mohs surgery, but fortunately never that deep. My surgeon was a real artist, managed to cut so the scars were hidden (mostly) in the already existent wrinkles. Due to Covid I skipped my semi-annual scan and now have a new worrisome spot. Very grateful to have an appointment next month. :
Sorry to hear your physio brought more pain instead of relief. :’(
Pip :love; Yogi as a pup with a mini-Yogi dolly.
Rebecca, Athena Rose=supermodel. She has your eyes!
Jennifer from Edmonton con grats on your progress. Baby steps well done.

Barbie  the caps and blannies.
Kylia when I saw “Chocolate Fix” at the bottom of my screen, I expected to see Beth’s Cecil when I scrolled down.
    Katla Halelujah your glasses arrived!
Flea there’s nothing more joyful than puppy-in-snow for the first time.
Like Heather and others, hoping to hear from Allie.

Teresa OH – do you need to put as much salt (any?) in the cabbage when you make your own sauerkraut? I love sauerkraut, but the sodium doesn’t love me. If I could make it myself with little or no salt, I would That’s great that you can limit your chocolate consumption. I feel the same way. Sometimes I just need a bit of chocolate. But I know some people just can’t have a little bit of something without going overboard. A friend offered me some of his sourdough starter, but I felt funny so I ordered it from King Arthur. What I especially like is that they have a “bakers hotline” where you can call with any question. Like last week I called them to tell them that I had my starter in the refrig, how often do I have to feed it? They are very helpful. Now it’s doing fine, thanks for asking. What a lovely couple you and your hubby make!

    Michele NC

Michele: THANKS for your kind words about DH and I. Also, I forgot to answer your ? about the sauerkraut. Yes, for a head of cabbage (approx 3 lb), you'll need to use 1.5 tablespoons of salt. The salt helps to create an environment that favors the lactobacillus bacteria in the sauerkraut. But that's all you need - cabbage and salt. Here's the recipe:

Machka- Gladiolas were our wedding flowers. They were cheap and pretty. My MIL said every time here's bloomed in her garden they reminded her of our wedding. Nice to see fresh flowers even if just pictures. Thank you for sharing!

Barbie: the blankets are beautiful! Are they crochet? I love making baby blankets because they do up so quick (compared to regular afghans or lap blankets!) Is your friend having twins? Very nicely done Barbie with cute little hats to match! How adorable! Your friend will love them, I'm sure! 😍
$10K? Hot tub installed in our summerhouse. And a handy fridge, and a large supply of Prosecco. 😂

I AGREE with Terri !! I would most DEFINITELY spend my $10k on a HOT TUB! In the past 18 months, I've worked my fanny off trying to pay off all my debt and I'm only $4500 away from being debt free except for our mortgage!! That's exciting! And the NEXT thing on my radar is a HOT TUB! (.....oh, and a fridge and supply of Prosecco sounds pretty darn good too!) 🤗 😘 💖 😍

Katla: awesome news that you just paid off your car! Yes, YAY!!! And I'm so GLAD that you FINALLY got your glasses! It's crazy that it took so long! (I too am blind without my glasses. I always keep my last pair for a backup just for that reason!)

Rebecca: The pics of Athena are so adorable and precious! She's beautiful! 💛💚💓💜

Kylia: Sorry about the migraine. Hope you feel better QUICKLY!

Flea: The puppy is adorable! There's something so cute and cuddly about a puppy! 🤗

WELCOME! Tina in AZ and Jennifer in Edmonton - I'm relatively new as well, having only been here about a week! But I'm enjoying "getting to know" all of you wonderful ladies from all over the world! It's very interesting to me!

My weight has "stalled" this month as well. I lost 11 pounds and 7 inches through Nov and Dec - which is quite a feat since those are two of the most overeating holidays! Lol. But I've only lost 5 lbs now since Dec 16 so that's getting kinda depressing! Yesterday morning I did 15 mins of Pilates, 20 mins on my mini trampoline. Then in the afternoon I did 45 mins of dancing to the oldies out on the front porch! It was 35(F) out there, so I made sure to dance to fast tunes so as not to slow down or get cold! I told DH that if the elderly neighbor saw me, she probably thinks I'm LOONEY! Then, in the evening, I did some speed-walking on the treadmill. Whew!!

On flowers ... another Getting to Know You question ...

    What is your favourite flower?

Mine is the wild rose ... the Alberta rose ... they grow in masses in the ditches in Alberta in June. :) I'm not sure why it is my favourite, but it has been since I was a little girl.

:)Katla, Congratulations that your patience has been rewarded and your glasses have finally arrived.

:) About the hats and blankets. They are knitted. No, it's not for twins. The story is that I knitted most of the first blanket and realized that it was going to be wider than I wanted so I bought more yarn and made a second blanket the size I wanted. Then, because there was a bunch of extra yarn, I decided to make a hat and couldn't decide whether I liked the heart or the diamond motif, I made one of each. Sometimes, something worth doing is worth doing to excess.

<3Allie, how are you? We are all concerned and wishing you the best.

I also checked Allie's FB page and no news since Jan 24th. Prayers for her.

Kylia ~ I also walk in circles around my house...entry, den, kitchen, dining, living room over and over.

Barbie ~ Your knitting looks professional. Lovely job.

Lisa ~ Hope you get the appointment you need.

Katla ~ Happy your car is paid off and that you finally got your glasses. I would be totally lost without mine.

Flea ~ The pics of the new pup are cute. Love that blue eye.

Rainy day here! Hoping for sun tomorrow and hope I get the energy to go to BJ's for a few things. Getting me out of the house has become a chore. :/

wow! I have rarely met a flower i did not like. I would be hard pressed to choose one. I think I will generically choose Spring flowers. They are hardy little souls and I love how they wake the world up with color.

Allie we are all thinking about you!🙏🙏🙏💕💟

I have been corresponding with the Chaplain on my youngest son's ship. On the good side, his investigating proved my son is a valuable asset to his division, well liked, and seems positive. So I am relieved, and grateful for the Chaplains emails. It doesn't solve the non communication issues, but I am hopeful one day, son will realize that family connections, bouncing life off each other, is what keeps us strong. Family connections, to me are like strands woven together. The fabric of our lives, a Hallmark card said, or a commercial.😁👍💟

Husband is taking me out to lunch! Which involves driving to either the pizza joint, or a fast food place we agree on, getting food and parking somewhere. We might get pizza because then we can go on base and watch the jets practice.

    Here is Athena and snow:
    29k4whqx40ea.jpeg
She seems to not mind the elements! I recall as a little girl, hating the rain and snow. Also because it rained a lot in Oregon, I would walk and see worms everywhere. So my peasized brain came up with the idea that the worms MUST be coming from the sky! Duuuh! So walking in the rain was particularly scary!
    Hugs ladies!

Heather: Congratulations on your appointment for vaccine! I envy you. We supposedly have an appointment in February. I’m not holding my breath. :ohwell:

Peach: Thank you for the kind words. I am thrilled to be able to see well again. Paying off the car was nice, too. We’ll be able to find creative ways to savor the ‘payments’ we’re no longer making.

Flea: I grew up in Salem and enjoyed those iris fields for many years. We had family in Portland and loved driving past the iris fields when we were off to visit relatives. My mom always planted some in our yard.

Barbie: Thank you for the congratulations. I am absolutely thrilled to have my glasses back. I am noticing some sore joints that ache from the after effects of the fall. My left wrist and left knee both tell me that they aren’t all the way healed yet. They are slowly getting better. :flowerforyou:

Has anyone heard from Allie recently?

I have a dear friend who lost two family members in the pandemic. I had not been in touch due to my injuries from the fall, so I called her. Her husband and sister both passed in December. She has asked me not to come and visit her. I will respect that request. Sending a condolence card seems too little. I welcome suggestions. She has been kind and generous to me over the years and I feel sad for her terrible losses in December.

Katla - Maybe ask her favorite charity and donate to that or the favorite charity of those who passed.

Allie - You can tell we're all concerned. Hope you can chime in soon to let us know how the procedure went.

Rita - Sending hugs. Love the photos too.

Katla - flowers? Flowers are such a powerful message of love.

My Yahoo account went out this afternoon, so I couldn't get into my friends' Zoom. I WhatsApped them and they got to me on Gmail, so we were able to connect after a few minutes of panic.
I rebooted my devices and reinstalled the Yahoo app. Now it's working. It was a horrible half hour when I didn’t know what had happened to my emails. I think it was probably yahoo doing something. :o
