I had no way to use my HRM without my watch (due to it using ANT+ for connectivity) so I had to run by feel. I used Strava to record the timing and distance. It looks like I may have gone a little faster than I should have, but I don't think I pushed it too far to worry in the long term. I only have to do this today and tomorrow so as long as I'm not careless I should be able to skate by without any HR data.6 -
Whoa I'm way behind! Gonna post my last two distances and then catch up:
Distance Log:
4/6 1.80 miles
4/8 1.78
4/10 1.88
4/12 1.88
4/14 1.90
4/19 1.80
April Total/Goal: 11.04/15
In the 30s today and foggy. I'm hoping there aren't too many really chilly days left, because I'm hoping to wait and buy cold weather gear a few sizes smaller next winter. :P But for today gloves and a hoodie suited just fine.5 -
Back after my absence.
The short story of it is that the family doctor was alarmed by a heart murmur that I have had all my life. He said it was getting worse. He told me no running, nothing strenuous, no lifting over 20 lbs. He made an appointment with the cardiologist for me for the following week. I worried the entire time.
Went to the cardiologist he examined me and said I was fine. No restrictions, go running, see him in a year.
Interestingly, the cardiologist is also a runner. He finished the doctoring part and then we had a nice running chat. Nice guy.
The loss of the running days is going to mess up this month's goal. But we shall persevere.
April to date: 20.01 miles.
I have a mitral valve prolapse which the dr can barely hear but showed up in a stress test. My cardiologist was the same - run run run. I think MVP is similar to murmur. I probably need to go back and get checked but not a lot of drs are taking appts yet for non emergent stuff. I do wonder if it's why my HR on great effort is a lot higher than "max predicted" for my age. <shrug>4 -
3.5 mile run (average pace 9:25 min per mile) this morning to drop off car at the garage for a service and 2.7 mile run (average pace 8:51 min per mile) this afternoon to go and pick up my car.
Still got an achy arm from my Covid vaccine on Saturday and feeling tired, but at least my headache has gone.6 -

Really? @rheddmobile ! That's so cool. What was the video game?
It was going to be a turn based Civil War strategy game which never saw the light of day because after the protests the producer didn’t want to touch the subject matter. Pity but we get paid either way since we are contractors. It was fun to build for, I built a bunch of small towns in NC mostly.3 -
@WhatMeRunning It's amazing how hard it is to run without that darned watch. I'm sure you'll be fine for a few days running by feel.
@penguinmama87 Good idea to use what you have now and treat yourself to new running stuff after you lose weight. What a great reward!
@SummerSkier It's always good to keep a check on a minor heart issue, just to make sure it doesn't get worse.
@sweetdaisy13 I was bit confused about your post at first. "Why would you run to drop your car off? Did you push it?" Then I realized you probably meant the run was back home/work after you dropped it off and then back to pick it up. Nice way to get your run in and glad your headache is gone.
@rheddmobile Too bad the game didn't make it, but I do totally understand why. There were a lot of civil war battles in and around Greeneville, TN. We found, what we believe to be a civil war cannon ball in one of our fields.

My plan calls for Monday's to be rest days, so I did a mile walk for the streak.
I took Tippy to the vet today because she just hasn't been herself lately. Turns out she has a hypoactive thyroid, arthritis in her back, and is having some stomach issues. The last one I suspected as she has been eating grass. Hopefully all the meds I am now giving her will make her feel better.6 -
@quilteryoyo I hope Tippy will feel better now that she's got some meds on board.
@polskagirl01 I'm sorry about your quad. Hope you can figure out the problem and get it healthy again soon.

It was really nice this afternoon so I snuck out of work early and did my zoom meeting audio only while I walked the dog. Shhh, don't tell. It's a huge meeting so no one knew the difference and it makes it much more tolerable to multitask out in the sunshine. Then I had strength training tonight, so I decided to do a short run outside the gym before that. I was going to just take a rest day from running but again, so nice out.

@katharmonic Nice that you were able to have your meeting while walking the dog. I won't tell.
Happy, Happy Birthday @pfeiferlindsey !1 -
Happy Birthday @pfeiferlindsey! We're almost birthday twins! Except my run yesterday was 5.3. 😁
@polskagirl01 I hope you can get in to see someone and get your quad issue resolved.
Glad you were able to enjoy the sunshine during your meeting @katharmonic. I took a rest day today, but it was so nice out that I walked to the park during my lunch hour. It was nice to get away from my desk and get some fresh air.4 -
Happy birthday @pfieferlindsey and happy late birthday @kgirlhart!
Barely got in 5k on trails before it got too dark to see - we need to start getting out there earlier. I love running the woods at dusk though. Tonight the barred owls were singing mating songs. They are known for their “cacophonous duets” which is a fancy way of saying one sits in one tree, the mate sits in another tree, and they cackle like crazy witches!
We ran an extra mile around the lake where it’s lighted and walked the boardwalk, total 10k and change.
Passed a young lady on the boardwalk who made me smile. She was very tall and very pretty, on the full figured side - probably she thinks she should lose a few pounds before summer - and she was wearing all spangly new trendy running clothes which are what a trendy article would say to wear, and not what a seasoned runner would wear in today’s weather - boatneck crop top in this beautiful lilac color and joggers. She looked like a lululemon ad. And she had this huge smile on her face when we waved as she passed us like a little kid riding a bike without training wheels for the first time. You could tell she was thinking, “I’m a RUNNER, the other RUNNERS waved at me!” I can remember feeling exactly like that when I first started running. She was adorable and I hope she sticks with it!8 -
@quilteryoyo - love those puppies! They are so adorable! I think Tippy maybe needs a buddy😁 Glad you got her checked out. It always surprises me that dogs have thyroid issues, makes sense but it is something I never considered years and many dogs ago.
@katharmonic - when I was working I used to take so many conferences call meetings when was out on a run. As long as I didn't have to talk or answer questions I was fine. It was only an issue when an unexpected question would pop up and I would have to try to adjust my breathing so no one would know.
Happy Birthday @kgirlhart and @pfeiferlindsey!
@rheddmobile - I love where you get to run and everything you see and hear there! That girl sounds so sweet. I have been seeing several new runners out on our trail too. Mostly guys huffing and puffing and trying to go to fast. Also not dressed in anything trendy and mostly cotton t-shirts!
It was around 80F at the start of my run today and 85F at the end but fortunately the humidity was pretty low in the 20's (it was only 5% on Sunday!). I took Hobbes out for the 1st mile walk/run then dropped him back at home. So glad I did for multiple reasons! I was almost hit crossing (in the crosswalk) the only major intersection on my way to get to the paved trail I run by the river. The cars all stopped and I took off running across the street but took my eyes off the cars and one decided to come on thru. Fortunately I looked up just in time to stop and avoid being hit. I literally could have reached out and banged on his car - kinda wish I had honestly although I did yell at him as he had his window down. He didn't even slow down 😡 So glad I didn't have Hobbes with me as he likely would have been hit since he runs a bit in front of me typically. I had to stop on the other side to let my HR recover from the 141 it jumped to! I will be calling the City to see if they would consider putting in a light at the intersection, maybe one for pedestrians that is only on when you want to cross. The only problem with that is I have seen cyclists get hit too even while following the laws and stopping like any other vehicle. There have been 3 people killed there and several injured and the answer was to put up these giant stop signs over the normal sized ones. Clearly they haven't helped much.
I am behind for my 100 Mile Club goal this month, need to get more running in! Also I have been doing my PT exercises everyday, I just got tired of entering them on each line. I am doing a few before I run and the stretches and foam/ball rolling after. Since I have so many different ones I figure I will rotate through them especially on running days.

@kgirlhart and @pfeiferlindsey To those of us who are dyslexic, you are birthday twins! LOL
@rheddmobile Sounds like you had a great run. Cute story about the young lady. I hope she sticks with it too.
@shanaber I hope you can get the city to put in a pedestrian light there. It sounds like it is really needed. Glad you weren't hit!
@Scott6255 I hear ya. The treadmill is great for pacing yourself.
Thanks for all the well wishes for Tippy. As for needing a friend...a couple of years ago I almost got another dog so she wouldn't be alone when I was gone. I had brought it here for some visits and they got along great. But, the day before I was going to get her, I went out with Tippy and said, "Well, Tippy. This may be the last day that it's just you and me." and surprisingly, I started to cry. So, I knew I really didn't want another dog. I like to think that Tippy enjoys being an only dog too. She does okay with company, but seems to be happy when they go home. LOL

Clear and cool this morning (38F) but beautiful sunrise and a nice and sunny day now. I didn’t sleep great last night and was dragging. I could not find my kitty-cat to make her come inside for the night and I worried about her getting eaten by a coyote or hit by a car. Got up at 1:00 am and 4:00 am but she still didn’t come when I called her. She’s here now. Sleeping of course…
@polskagirl01 – Did you strain your quad on a trail run? I think I missed how you got injured. Regardless, I hope it’s better soon.
@katharmonic – I like your multi-tasking strategy.
Hope Tippy feels better soon @quilteryoyo.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY @pfeiferlindsey! What a great way to celebrate!
So glad you looked up in time to see that car @shanaber and glad Hobbes wasn’t with you.
@rheddmobile – I bet it was neat to hear those owls.
@Tramboman – You probably confused people with your Fall/Winter/Spring ensemble.

The new Garmin Forerunner 245 arrived a day early so I was able to use it this morning! Worked like a champ. Will take some getting used to since it uses only buttons for navigation. I keep trying to swipe at the screen to navigate!
Today it was 32 F outside with a heavy wet snowfall. The roads, walkways and paved trails were all clear but everything else was covered with white stuff. Since everything has been in bloom it made for a really beautiful sight of white against other color contrasts compared to snow when everything is just dingy brown. On the downside all of that bloomage is now covered in snow. All of the snow is predicted to melt as it warms up to around 40 today.
Happy belated birthday @pfeiferlindsey and congrats on the 3.5! I have to admit I'm still confused why @kgirlhart ran 5.3 at only 35 years of age.
Hope Tippy gets to feeling better @quilteryoyo
@penguimama I am not sure what your weather is like today, but I ran in the snow today! Actually, I enjoyed it, it was a sight to behold as it was a wet snow and with everything in bloom it makes for a very unique view of white and green everywhere.
@sweetdaisy13 I had a nice giggle about you running from the car place and back to have it serviced. Very cool.
That sucks to hear that the work you put into that game did not wind up going live @rheddmobile but how interesting that you wound up getting to know that church only to see it again here!
@katharmonic I too have been known to sneak out to run during a conference call. I always found I was able to keep up with the topics as long as it was an easy run, but like @shanaber said if you get called upon and have to speak it can be a little awkward (but keeping it an easy run helps).
@shanaber - I am glad to hear nothing happened on your close call. I've almost been hit a couple times, as have many people here (I would imagine). Sadly, as you mentioned, a lot of people do get hit and are even killed. I must admit I give cyclists and runners very wide berth compared to my life prior to running. I've even had some cars behind me get a little agitated when trailing behind on an uphill simply due to lack of visibility and not wanting to crowd the cyclist over onto the shoulder. I actually enjoy agitating those people though and wish they would think a little bit more about why I am slowing them down.
@Scott6255 - I never considered the benefit of a treadmill being for anything other than bad weather. You just opened my eyes a little to the other side of that coin.
@Tramboman - I totally understand on the weird looks and strange outfits when running. Because it was 32 and a wet snow falling today, I ran with some UA Storm tights (in Tidy Whitey that very much resemble long underwear), with shorts over those (to avoid looking like a guy running around in long underwear), and a shortsleeved shirt because it was just too warm and humid for long sleeves in my opinion, and of course gloves on the hands and a winter cap up top. Obviously I looked like I had just escaped the looney bin. But I was comfy the whole way. If anything I felt overdressed when I was finished and walked back inside a warm house.
@Teresa502 - Good to hear the cat is home and safe.4
