I had dropped to 228, but then it popped back up to 230 for no apparent reason -- turns out PMS bloating. But for a few days, I had a real struggle between keeping the course (positive and logical!) VS that negative "give up".5 -

I probably won't hit the goal but I'm moving in the right direction.
I saw the doctor yesterday. She agrees that it sounds like my thyroid is low, and since I've had thyroid nodules before and it's time to scan them again, I'll get an ultrasound done as well as the usual blood work, just to make sure nothing else needs to be done beyond supplementing with medication.
I now have a diagnosis of macromastia, which is the clinical way of saying my breasts are problematically large, and a referral to a plastic surgeon. That was what I wanted from her, because if I want my insurance to cover it, I have to do this in proper order.
And she was worried about my period pain, and wants me to have some gynecological scans done to see if there's a reason I have so much pain. I will say that they looked ten years ago and found nothing, but scans may have improved or the problem may have grown enough to be visible. So I'm okay with that.
In other news my son is settling in well. I make his lunch and leave it labelled in the fridge and the lunch box on the counter, and he takes it. We're still working out what works for him to eat, because he is a welder and not exactly working in air conditioning, and when he is that hot, he wants things that don't feel heavy but will sustain him. He goes to bed pretty early, his room is staying clean and orderly enough, and we're all getting along.
Still waiting to hear on the potential really good job for Boyfriend. This is getting on all our nerves.

@kadohi you still have 10 days to the end of this month. You should easily make your goal.
@getfitformeee you're right on target to hit your goal this month also.
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 Don't pass up getting those scans done. My sister was just diagnosed with endometrial cancer last week. It luckily has not gone to the lymph nodes so she has a pretty good chance to fight it because they caught it early. Glad you're all getting along well at home. Living with so many different personalities can be difficult. My roommates parents are now living with us and it can be very challenging.5 -
Hi all,
I am new to this forum, but I have been on MFP, on and off for several years. My weight has fluctuated from my heaviest at well over 230lbs (I stopped weighing myself because I couldn't bare to see the number on the scale), about 9 years ago, to my lowest of approximately 170lb, 6 years ago. After I lost so much, I slowly put some weight back on to between 175-180 and maintained for quite some time...then MENOPAUSE hit! Last year my weight sky rocketed, over night it seemed, back to 225. I have dropped about 15lbs and have been holding steady at 210 for the last few months. My goal, by the end of the summer is to get out of double/triple digits. My goal, by the end of the year is to be back down to around 180, which seemed very comfortable for my body to maintain.
I need to be able to like myself again, because right now, I do not!!
I am very active. I weight train 4-5 times a week (I qualified for USAPL Powerlifting Nationals 2 years ago). I go to a CrossFit class once a week, and I try to walk daily during my lunch. I also just started taking a kickboxing class once a week. I KNOW it's my hormones and my food.

Back in the office for work so no more second bathroom visit most days to see anything lower should there be more movement.
Second guessing if I really want to be back in the office; especially when no one is here. Very limited folks; mostly just those with offices and the few of us that wanted to keep our assigned cubes. I'm very tired this week so have to figure out the routine a bit.5 -

OK, time to go back to Plan A.
The past 2 weeks have been tough. I upped my daily calories and protein to address brain fog/concentration issues I was having at 1200 cal/day, and it's been a disaster. Late night munchies have been INTENSE and I have been going over my calorie allowance by ~500 calories almost every day. Seems paradoxical to up my calorie target and now I'm having issues going over that when I had fewer issues at 1200.
By the math, going over by 500 calories a day on a target based on losing 1.5# per week shouldn't have me gaining but just slowing the loss to ~0.5#/week. But the #s aren't that exact (nor are the weigh-ins), so it's probably not the full picture, but the trend is not good.
So I'm going to go back to Plan A: 1200 cal/day, but try to keep protein, fat and fiber UP and carbs down and see if that works. Call it Plan A+. The first few days (starting today) are going to be hard, I know, but I have a beach vacation with extended family coming up in 2 weeks, and want to bank some calorie "leeway" for that, so want to do well these next 2 weeks. Wish me luck!5 -
Doctor's office called me again regarding the thyroid issue. I understand that I have normal levels, so I asked for a referral to an endocrinologist because I would like to know why I feel hypothyroid when I have normal levels, and wo we'll see how that goes. I know something's not right.7
-
To be honest, I didn't even know that MFP had forums (yeah, I know, I am oblivious). But I saw this one and like what I'm seeing. I'm 6ft tall and have been over 250lb for several years now. I lost a ton of weight 4 or 5 years ago with keto, but then gained over half of it back. WW got rid of another 15lb, but I just couldn't stick with it because the system doesn't restrict "zero point foods". Just popped in to say hi. Feeling a bit discouraged but really trying to get back to basics of calorie restriction and moving more. I have 3 months until our family beach trip, and I'm at 256lb right now. Maybe, just maybe, I can break 250 by then. The positivity on here would definitely help. Y'all are doing great!15

@sandielewis2001 Great NSV! Congrats!
@OnceAndFutureAthlete Yeah that seems strange that increasing your calories would cause issues. Hope you hit your sweet spot!
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 That’s very frustrating! But you know your body so don’t give up.
Welcome to all of the new people! This is a great group!
I’ve been planning to take my measurements and progress photos all along but haven’t done it yet. I ordered a bikini just for my own photos. You should have seen my daughter’s face when I told her I ordered a bikini!! 😂 I would never in a million years wear it in public!5 -

July has been such a good weight loss month for me! Since we’ve been in lockdown, I’ve been cooking 100% of my meals and going on extra walks every day. I don’t think my eating has changed much and I know that weight loss happens in the kitchen far more often than it happens in the gym but it seems to me that the evening walks have been a (positive) game changer for me. I am now within 15lbs of goal (which is mind blowing, believe me)! I am mentally prepared to hit a hard wall sometime soon as I continue my journey downwards so every pound off is a step in the right direction!
One NSV this week is I am consistently fitting into my old size 8 pants! (I started this journey a size 16) I can still wear my size 10 jeans too so I’m definitely still on the curvy side of an 8, but they fit (with no squeezing)! I hope to be a 6-8 when I’m done, so this is a huge celebration.
Keep on keeping on, all you wonderful ladies!10 -
@OnceAndFutureAthlete I know every person is different but I have found that my protein levels have EVERYTHING to do with how full I feel. If I have a protein-heavy lunch and dinner, I can get to the end of the day having only eaten 1000 calories and have to go around scrounging up snacks for myself to round out my calories for the day. On the other hand, if I have say, a salad for lunch (lower protein higher fat), I’ll be starving at 1200 calories. Again, this doesn’t work for everyone but I try to hit between 100 and 120 grams of protein a day. Then, if I’m still hungry at 1200 calories, I know it’s a need my body has, not a protein deficit if that makes sense? Best of luck to you!
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 Be sure your doctor/endocrinologist checks both your TSH and your FreeT4. I’m sure things have changed since then, but I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 15 years ago after a bunch of GPs told me nothing was wrong because my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) was working fine. The FreeT4 measures the amount of thyroid actually going to your blood stream, which is what can account for some of the symptoms. It was SUCH a pain for me to get diagnosed but I’ve been on meds for 15 years and it has helped a ton with 95% of my symptoms. Hoping you can find a solution!
@millsmary314 Welcome! I have only been here since Feb, but I love these people!6 -

Hi everyone, I'm not new to MFP, but I am new to serious weight loss, I'm new to this group, and new to just having friends on here in general. A little bit about myself,... I am a passionate animal advocate and i love to paint. I've struggled with depression and horrible self esteem for as long as i can remember. I am much harder on myself than anyone I know. And that's something I've recently started working on. On March 1st 2021 I found out that I am a T2 diabetic. It gave me the scare I needed to finally get serious about weight loss, and since then I've lost about 73 lbs and maintained my blood sugar levels in normal ranges. I've never been good at healthy weight loss, always going from one extreme to another. This time around I am learning how to lose in a healthy way and I am trying to surround myself with people who help me achieve my goals as opposed to tearing me down. So if you are looking for a friend, please add me!

Hi ladies! :waves:
I'm not new to MFP...I lost over 100 pounds on here about 10 years ago but it's steadily been creeping back on, especially over the last 5 years. Quarantine and permanent WFH (I'm now full-time remote) did NOT help!
I know HOW to do this....I just need to company and support of others on the same journey. I found great love and community before so I'm hoping to do it again (although I nuked my old account, so this one is sparkly new).
My plan is to focus on making mostly good choices, allowing myself something sweet every day, and improving fruit and veg intake. And then we'll see where I am in August.7 -
Down to my lowest weight so far, 241. This is 55 pounds lost exactly and that is a little over 1/3 of the total weight I have to lose. Yay!11
-
@drj63 Progress is progress. Even if you don't quite meet your July goal, you're already in spitting distance of it - and you've only failed if you've stopped trying. So, keep trying!
@manny08phs have you seriously lost 70+ lbs since THIS past March, like <150 days ago? I hope you're doing that under a doctor's supervision, that's like 4 lbs per week and you are nowhere NEAR big enough to be able to do that safely, certainly not for very much longer. Strongly recommend you pump the brakes, aim for closer to 1-1.5lb loss per week. It's good that you've got a handle on your blood sugar, but super-aggressive fast loss like that - besides making it very easy to burn out and regain - can also damage your body in other ways.
@seltzer_lover hello! I believe in you, you did it once and you can do it again!
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 awesome!3 -

Ayyyy! I still don't think I'll actually make my goal this month but I can damn sure get close enough for jazz. I'll be happy with any negative progress between this week and next.
I realized, I think from a thread somewhere around here, that the Strong Curves lifting program I've been following for June and July is actually a 12-week program and not 8 weeks, so I guess that's half of my exercise for August sorted - lucky I have a blank page in my journal next to the June and July spreads, so I can just keep that going all in one place! The spreadsheet I found for SC only included the first 8 weeks for some reason. Weeks 9-12 Workout A involves push-ups, I haven't decided if I'm going to do wall/incline push-ups on a bench or something, or just swap in a chest press of some kind instead. I hate push-ups, my wrists don't like being hyperextended that way.
Among my cooking projects this weekend is going to be homemade marshmallows. Not like, fake sugar-free healthy marshmallows or whatever. Just, marshmallows. The theme for the Reddit 52 Weeks of Cooking challenge for this week is Camping, and the best thing I can come up with is s'mores. I'll need to run back out to the grocery for some unflavored gelatin but it doesn't seem that hard. The tricky bit is slowly streaming molten sugar into a stand mixer while it's running, so it's just dangerous enough to be intriguing.8 -

Molten sugar, aka kitchen napalm. Dangerous indeed. Don't get in a hurry!3 -
@goal06082021 I love that the danger is part of the appeal!
I meal-planned for the upcoming week and now need to get groceries. I focused solely on recipes that I’ve already made that are on the healthier side and laden with fruits and veg. I find that when I meal plan and shop accordingly I’m waaaay more likely to stick to healthier eating.
I also signed up for an intro OrangeTheory class next weekend. I’m a little (a LOT) nervous about need something to get me going. I’m currently stalking the OTF Reddit to reassure myself that this was a good life choice.
Have a great weekend everyone!3 -
@goal06082021 yes, as I mentioned I have never been good at healthy weight loss. I would either eat 3000 calories a day or 800 there was no in between. Alot of that came from depression and self hatred. The first 2 months of this journey was no different, although my nutritionist read my food logs and saw how much I was losing and didn't say anything about it other than good work 🤷♀️ I lost my job on may 27th and went through a 2 week period where I ate whatever i wanted. Whatever healed the pain of being a failure. But instead I just ended up feeling like more of a failure. That was when I changed things. I realized that what I was doing was not sustainable or good for me, but I also didn't want to hate myself more for gaining back everything I had already lost. I researched and learned and now I eat at a 750 cal deficit. Most days. Some days I go over a little, some days I'm under a little. My weight loss has slowed, and I dont get on the scale every day like I did before. In the past 8 weeks I've lost 12lbs, perfectly maintaining my goal of 1.5 pounds lost a week. This time I'm doing things the way I should be, I'm learning how to not emotionally eat, I'm learning new ways to deal with my emotions. I'm trying to learn to love myself and take care of myself, because I AM worth it. This has definitely been the hardest journey I've ever taken, but I am determined to succeed and do whatever it takes to heal my mind and my body after years of self abuse. And I cant thank MFP enough for being there with me through all of it.11

@manny08phs - I’m so happy to hear that you’re approaching this much more healthfully and that you were able to recognize your own bad habits. It’s so hard to untangle the emotional aspect of food. You definitely ARE worth it!5

I exercised and was able to track and stay under my calories every day this week, but find myself struggling mentally to eat all the calories I "earned" over the TDEE amount. I know I need to trust the tool and the process and I will get there. I am hoping that this becomes more normal as time goes on, because right now it feels like I spend most of my day thinking about how much exercise I did, did I get enough steps in, what have I eaten, what else will I eat, how does it fit, etc. It is totally consuming me which I don't like 😞
I am meeting up with my cousins for dinner tonight before all the older kids head back to college, and this will be my first time eating out since tracking. The place we are going does not have any nutritional information, which is making me anxious. Ugh.
For a NSV this week, I did not have any soda! Prior to starting MFP, I had at least 1 full sugar soda a day, lol. And although there were a couple days that I really wanted one, I managed to drink water instead :-)6 -

Update: I have constructed Marshmallow. (One big one. It'll be cut into little ones later when it sets up. But it tastes like marshmallows, all right!) And nobody got napalm'd. There was briefly a cat underfoot who wanted to see what all the commotion was in the kitchen, but my husband swiftly relocated him.
@manny08phs excellent news, I'm glad you're taking these steps because yes, you are definitely worth it. Keep up the good work.5 -

Hello fitness friends! I had an addition instead of a subtraction this week. I often think about something in a post by that thrill seeking marshmallow maker @goal06082021I who wrote "weight loss is not linear" That is so true. But I still hold out hope to reach my monthly goal.
I also have a new scale - the fluctuations on my old one were crazy. I put a 10 pound weight on it and got 3 different numbers in 5 minutes. So I say goodbye old scale - You playfully winked losses, stood stoic on my plateaus and were there for all my smiles and groans. RIP
