@teresa502 yes 3:00 am here in Yuma, AZ is much better temperature wise between 85 to 92 degrees outside during the summer. When the sun comes up the temperature creeps up quickly to over 100. One of my most favorite Christian techno songs is Press Plays NY2LA right now. It really makes me move along faster.4

Aug Total: 17.4/60 miles
8/4: 3 miles
8/7: 3.1 miles
8/8: 5.1 miles
8/11: 3.1 miles
8/12: 3.1 miles
I am at the point in the month where my mileage goal feels unattainable even though it is calculated from a training plan. Like, I'm almost halfway through the month and only at 17 miles!! This happens almost every month then I usually end up right on target by the end.
School started back for us yesterday. This first week is always a challenge as we readjust our schedules to account for constantly prodding my daughter to be out the door on time and fully dressed. Is it wrong that I am so relieved that my running time almost perfectly overlaps with her getting ready time? I get to come back for the last 10ish minutes, say bye have a nice day, then she's out the door! Maybe my husband will start running again if it gets him out of dealing with her in the morning.8 -
What the heck?! I know I posted my run this morning. I guess the mods didn't like something I said. So I'll try again....
7 miles this morning. I have noticed my HR is spending a lot more time in Zone 4 these days. Just a couple months ago I had a very hard time even touching Zone 4. I'm sure much of it has to do with the heat / humidity / dewpoint. Just makes everything seem so hard.
@julieannegannon the temperature here in Tx is still dropping at 3am. It bottoms out just before the sun comes up, so I try to wait until 4:30 or 5. Still doesn't help much. It was 81F, 80% humidity, 77F dewpoint this morning.
@teresa502 I did see 1 shooting start this morning. So that is a total of 2 in the last 2 days. That is one more than I have seen my entire life

Now I really wish I had gotten up earlier! I woke at 4:00 and 5:00 but didn't drag myself out of bed until 5:30 and out the door at 6:00. I'm getting up at 4 in the morning to meet a friend at 5 but I will have city lights to contend with then.

@Scott6255 - I lost my post too - I know I commented on @polskagirl01 doctor experience. Don't think there was anything untoward in my post other than saying that I am so over having doctors (and others) tell me why I shouldn't be running and wondering just what they think constitutes an active fit life...2

I saw that post! Very strange.3 -
Nice run @Teresa502 . I never went to the Gray fair, but my brother did a few times as a teenager. I think it is a lot bigger than our local one.
Wow @julieannegannon... 3 am! I get why you do it, but I just couldn't. I'm impressed.
@martaindale If you are following your plan, you will probably hit your goal again. It's hard to believe that the month is almost half gone already! Hahaha that your run overlaps with your daughter's reluctance to get going in the morning.
@Scott6255 Nice run. I'm sure once the weather cools down you'll be back to normal with the HR.
@shanaber I saw your post too. Did it disappear? Weird.1 -

32.0/100 miles running 12.0/31 miles walking
I played singles tennis with a friend this morning, outdoors. So glad that it decided to cloud up before we started playing. It made it much more tolerable and we had fun, even though we still sort of melted.
After tennis, I went to work at the daycare until 5:30. I got home at 6:15 and decided to do my long interval run on the driveway. But, since I had already played tennis and it was relatively late, I cut it short by counting my warm up and cool down walks as the Zone one part of the run. I ran 5 min Zone 2 then 5 x (3 min hard/2 min walk). It wasn't too bad as far as my legs were concerned, but I did walk a tiny bit on some of the running portions just because I was having difficulty breathing. The temp was 88°F, 55% humidity for a feels like of 91°F.

August Goal: 75 Miles
8/1: 6.50 miles
8/3: 5.16 miles
8/4: 4.67 miles
8/5: 5.35 miles
8/7: 7.06 miles
8/10: 5.02 miles
8/11: 5.10 miles
8/12: 5.26 miles
44.12/75 miles completed for August
I haven't had a chance to update my runs this week. Life has just been getting in the way.
The plan for Tuesday was 3 miles in 29 minutes at 9:43 min/mi. That is pretty fast for me and when I headed out at 5:30 in the morning it was still so hot and humid. And it was windy, but not a cool breeze, but the kind that feels like a hair dryer in your face. So I started out trying to be fast, but I just can't run fast when it is so hot. So I said to heck with Hal's plan and I just ran. I ended up with 5 miles in 56 minutes with a pace of 11:13. And while Hal said I overdid it a bit, I still had an A overall.
Wednesday's run was supposed to be a 30 minute Fartlek run. I did Fartleks for 3.15 miles in 32 minutes with about a 10:29 pace. The plan expected 3.5 miles with an 8:36 pace. But it was too hot and I can't run that fast when it is hot. The weather was a little less awful than Monday, but still pretty unpleasant. After I finished with that I was about 2 miles from home. I briefly considered stopping my watch and switching to "walk" and just walking home, but I knew I would just end up running. Partly because it would get me home faster and I needed to get ready for work and partly because I don't really like to only run 3 miles. So I just ran the 2 miles home. Hal said that I went beyond the prescribed volume and that negatively affected my rating, but I just went from an A to an A- and I can live with that.
Today's run was Hill repeats. The plan is run about 2 miles then run fast up a hill about .25 miles long, run down slow and repeat 3 times. Then run about the same distance home for a cool down. So I ran about 2 miles to a longish hill and did my repeats. I didn't get quite as fast on the hills as I think Hal expected, but I thought I did ok. Especially since the heat was oppressive this morning. The plan expected 4.5 miles in 51 minutes at a pace of 11:17. My run was 5.25 miles in 1 hour at a pace of 11:21. Hal said I overshot the mark and my score would go down. But I still have an A- so I don't mind. My Half Marathon training officially starts on the 15th. Right now I'm doing base training. I'm kind of frustrated though because right now I can only see the current plan and I'd really like to see the HM plan. I'm still not sure if I will stick with Hal or not.
Happy Belated Birthday @skippygirlsmom! And congrats to Skip on her first Triathlon!
@polskagirl01 I hope you get relief from your allergies and from your new doctor.
@Teresa502 I saw a shooting star this morning when I first started out.

One more day before we are supposed to see a break in the heat. Got out mid afternoon and it was just us and the cyclists. @kgirlhart it feels exactly like a hairdryer in the face, yes!
We did 5k very lazy, then a walk to bring it to 10k. Oh, and we saw this tree by the lake, it appears to be a completely natural thing, there was a similar shape on another tree nearby.11 -
@kgirlhart Nice running in the heat and humidity. I think Hal should take that into consideration somehow. I wouldn't like not being able to see the plan either. I want to know what is coming up.
Nice running and walk @rheddmobile! Love the moss formation on the tree!3 -
Thank God it’s Friday! Today was a cross training day so as usual I chose to walk. Extremely hot this morning it’s 88 with a feel like temperature of 95. Choose to walk close to my house so the miles I walked were back and forth by my house.

My Bluetooth EarPods have stopped working properly and ended up only one would play the music. Any suggestions on what Bluetooth headphones are durable and last longer then 3 months? They have to be good for running. Also I have been seeing a lot of you have Garmins watches. Also have seen on the Running Channel on YouTube that’s what they run with and it looks kinda cool. I have a Fitbit Versa 2 which I am starting having problems hooking up with GPS lately and I’m seriously thinking to get a Garmin. Your thoughts? Well you all have a nice day out there.5 -

Sticky, hot morning run but it’s done and that’s about all I can say about it!
@julieannegannon – No advice on the ear buds but I’m a big fan of Garmin. I have the 245 music version. I started with the Forerunner 35 when I began running but moved up to something else (220 maybe?) when I started marathon training because I needed one with a longer battery life. I’ve never had an Apple watch or any of the other fitness tracking watches so I can’t really compare but I’ve always been happy with the durability of my Garmin and the customer service from them.
@kgirlhart – Way to maintain that straight A average! I looked for shooting stars when I left the house this morning but no luck. I did see 2 deer, 2 foxes and one rather large possum…

Mostly cloudy, upper 60s F, and a breeze from the south. Nibbled by the niggles this morning. Was not a great deal of fun in the run -- think it's as much mental as it is physical.

I had a versa for a while and had problems with the GPS as well that drove me to get a garmin. I went with the vivoactive 4s and have really loved it. It was a good balance of smartwatch functionality and running data with internal GPS tracking. It's also a good size for me.0 -
@julieannegannon - I can't speak to an Apple Watch at all, but have loved everything about my Garmin ForeRunner watches over the last several years (originally a 630, now a 245). I can't recommend the 245 any higher for the amount of features at the price.3

Yesterday I only ran a treadmill warmup before strength training. I met my running friend after but she is still not running since the dog bite she suffered 2.5 weeks ago and she is feeling depressed about it. We walked for an hour and that was good, both for her to get out and move and to talk and catch up.
This morning I decided to meet the run group for Friday long run as I didn't have anything specific scheduled at work and I am leaving tomorrow to go hiking again. The run didn't start until 9 am though and it was hot and humid out there on the paved trail. I set out saying I would do 45 minutes to an hour and a couple of others in the group said that sounded good, but coach was sneaky and talked us into a little more. I was happy to get to 7 miles, which is not as much as I should be doing for a long run but is the longest run I've done yet this month.

@julieannegannon just adding my two cents for Garmin. From my experience they are very durable. I've had my ForeRunner 235 for 8 years and it still works great and haven't had any issues in all that time. But I would like to upgrade to a music version (245) if I ever have any spare disposable income5

Happy Friday!
10.02 miles done. Quite humid but glad I got it done.

@julieannegannon I have been using the Garmin Fenix 5 for the last 2 years and I love it. It ticks the boxes for all activities, GPS and music. Another plus for me is ability to sync with different apps including Nike, Strava and MyFitnessPal I know they are distributing Fenix 6 now but I am sure the features are even better.0

Right now, yes. I am early in a HM training plan so the second half of the month definitely has more miles per week that the first. But also it's partially perception. My goal seems so far away in the beginning of the month then, like magic, it all comes together at the end of the month.2 -
@Scott6255 - I lost my post too - I know I commented on @polskagirl01 doctor experience. Weird. I saw that post too, and certainly nothing seemed inappropriate that I remember. If they were removing "don't listen to [uninformed] doctor" posts, they should've deleted mine and a bunch more responding to it.
So I made it to the mountains, got my race packet, and got to cheer on the "Tour de Pologne" cyclists (like a crazy fan of course, with red hair and a triangle) as they came into the city. The spot we cheered from was on a turn with a hill, on a loop they had to do 3x, so plenty of opportunity to cheer. Lots of hype with the police escorts, press motorcycles, crew cars, ambulances, multiple helicopters overhead. Now I'm excited for tomorrow. Although I'm pretty sure the mood tomorrow will be different, as helicopters and crowds would be a bad thing for a mountain race.
Also, for your viewing pleasure...
Like a food truck, but with trail running gear!!!!! And I bought - nothing!7 -
@julianannegannon I have Aftershocks headphones. They are bone conducting headphones that sit over your ear. I like them because I can still hear everything around me and I feel safer.
I switched from a fitbit to a Garmin a few years ago. I think they are much better for running. I started with a basic Forerunner 35 and just recently switched to a Forerunner 45s. It's still a fairly basic watch but not as pricey as some and both of the Forerunners I have do everything I need.
Good luck tomorrow @polskagirl01!4 -
@julieannegannon Nice walk. I have Trekz Titanium bone conduction headphones and love them. I do have the Garmin Forerunner 235 which I also like. Just be sure to compare various watches, and headphones, and decide what is best for you based one what you want to use it for.
@Teresa502 Being able to say you got it done in those conditions is huge. WTG!
@Tramboman I hope the niggles are temporary and don't come back on your next run.
@RunsOnEspresso Way to dig deep down and get it done.
Nice running @katharmonic ! Enjoy your hike. Looking forward to your photos and hiking report.
@DuchessDiona Way to get out there and get it done.
You are amazing @AlphaHowls !

Happy Saturday everyone! Today’s training was a 30 minute run with 5 minute cadence drill and 5 minute acceleration and gliders. There was a bad storm outside so I ran near my house. I waited until the rain was drizzling before I set out but the roads were flooded and it was extremely dark. Well I couldn’t see and I tripped and fell over a speed bump. Well I probably should have waited longer my mistake. Minor bruising and scrapes but I got back up and finished the run. So my pace was slower then usual. Got home and immediately got in the shower to wash my scrapes and get some heated water to relax the soreness. Plan to lay low today to get through the stiffness.
