@rheddmobile isn’t that the truth, the time is flying by.
@WhatMeRunning I’m glad you were able to get that mile in running. Good approach I think, slow but steady on getting back.
@quilteryoyo that’s a lot of hitting the snooze ha ha Great run, man I feel you on the sweat, I have water running in places I never knew I had. Dang sweat is dripping off my elbows during my runs.
Thank you all for indulging me bragging on my girl, she does give me fits from time to time, but she is really is a good kid.
@katharmonic I’m so living all these peaks through you. I get so excited when I see your hiking reports. Are all these trails marked well? Love the don’t be a drop out sign ha ha As usual the pictures a breathtaking, I can’t imagine how beautiful it is in person.
@ContaryMaryMary glad you are feeling good.
@Avidkeo ugh on the lockdown, we won’t do that here and I’m not sure if it’s good or bad. No one can agree and everyone wants to fight everyone about it. Vaccinated vs unvaccinated masks vs non maskers. My job has now said if you in the building you must be vaccinated and prove it, if you are essential and not vaccinated you will have to do weekly testing and your expense. Must wear masks in the building, Skip’s school is masks indoors. She said something about not wanting to because she vaccinated, I told her shut her face and wear it, the school is mandating it and you will comply. Ugh!
@Scott6255 sorry about the speed work.

It cooled down a bit today, and rained in the morning. So the trails were wet, but my legs are feeling a good bit better (still sore, but in a good way if that makes sense), so I walked an easy mile to show my family the way to the old abandoned hospital building I saw yesterday, then switched my watch over to "trail running" and went up a nearby peak. Fast-ish hike up, slow careful jog down. 6k with 380 meters up & down was just about perfect for my legs today.
OK but now the creepy part. I was getting into the climb, maybe a kilometer away from the main road, and it was quiet with no one around. All of a sudden, I hear music. Like toy music, the kind that's in those musical greeting cards that plays when you open the card. I stopped, looking around, reaching for my phone but realizing, that's not my phone. I was getting ready for a clown or something to jump out and murder me. This is how it happens in horror movies, I am done for. Then, as "Santa Clause is coming, to town" sounds, I look over and see a picture on a tree, like the kind people here put up for saints or with a crucifix or something, and it has a little light lit on it. That's where the music was coming from. I'm guessing I tripped a sensor somewhere. What kind of person puts something like that in the middle of the woods? The picture looks like one of the "Stations of the Cross", so there are probably more out there 😱. Someone clearly did not think things through when they put that music on there.5 -
@polskagirl01 that is way creepy!1

@skippygirlsmom overall, as a nation of only 5 million, we pretty much agree on a full lockdown. We've got the benefit of seeing what's happening overseas with delta variant. NSW in Australia is a good example of what happens if it gets loose. It was only 1 case yesterday, but this morning it's already up to 5 confirmed, and they have only just started testing.
There will be people who disagree, but they are such a minority that they are largely ignored.
It does mean I'll be able to catch up on my paperwork cause works going to be quiet, since all out patients, clinics and non essential images will be cancelled4 -

I'm away on holiday with the family until Friday, but did a 10 mile run this afternoon, with an average pace of 8:49 min per mile and 226 feet of elevation.
August cumulative:
45.5/100 miles
4,049/10,000 feet of elevation6 -

You're doing great @julieannegannon ! Glad you are okay after your fall.
Sorry about the hamstring issue @Tramboman !
Thanks @Scott6255 ! Speed work doesn't have to be pretty to be beneficial, thank goodness.
Thanks @martaindale ! You are doing great. Slowing down in the heat is helpful.
@skippygirlsmom Glad I'm not the only Southern Lady who sweats that much and doesn't just glisten, as the old saying goes. I'm not sure I have had sweat dripping from my elbows before, but it does roll down places you wouldn't expect!
@polskagirl01 Love your hike report and pictures. I can't imagine hiking for over 12 hours! That would be spooky to hear music in the middle of nowhere. Glad you found the source.
Nice run @sweetdaisy13 .3 -
@ContraryMaryMary glad you were feeling good on your run!
@Avidkeo sorry about the lockdown. Hope it keeps things under control.
@polskagirl01 now that is super creepy! Exactly like a horror movie. How bizarre.skippygirlsmom wrote: »8/2 – 6.01

Thanks all of you and glad you enjoy the hike reports. I like having them to look back at and relive the experience later. @skippygirlsmom most of the trails are well used and pretty easy to follow. This one was very well marked and very easy to follow the whole way. A good number of them are actually unmarked though, and just "herd paths". They can be trickier to follow and I always use AllTrails app on my phone. I should also use a paper map and compass but I don't. There are some times when we have gotten off trail but usually realized it pretty quickly and were able to correct. It gets hard when the leaves fall and then the snow - if no one has broken out the trail.
@polskagirl01 hiking is one thing, I don't know about racing in the mountains. Although Spartan races I've done have been on mountains.5 -

I hiked on Sunday and didn't feel up to running yesterday so took the day off. I was not excited to run today either. I planned to do a short warmup run before yoga but got a phone call so missed that window. Fortunately a friend texted to see if I wanted to run in the afternoon or I may have bailed on the day again. I felt really awkward and stiff. I'm finding it tougher to recover from these long hikes and get much running done. Which I think is probably normal but makes me feel like I'm slacking off as my mileage has been so low this summer.
After I got home from the run it started thundering and then raining. It's currently pouring out so I'm very happy to have gotten that in when I did.9 -
Lockdown means all the pressure for open homes has evaporated. No more cleaning and tidying. Yay. Kids are home but had two teachers’ only days scheduled around this weekend, plus the couple of days the school needs to switch back to online learning means no Zoom classes until Tuesday. Yay. I have some work to do, but if I pull finger today, then I should have a free day tomorrow. Yay. Planning on doing lots of gentle runs in the coming week and lots of reading/lazing about. Yay. Started today with 8km and a route to check out when the supermarket had queues - it didn’t. Yay.
I’m finally eligible for a vaccine so hubby and I get our jabs Wednesday next week.
Happiness and sunshine here (literally and figuratively). Making the most of the good things lockdown offers.8 -
It got hot again. Or rather, so humid that the moderate heat has an absurdly high heat index - 98 during mid morning by the river. Kinda getting used to it by this point. I wore my sports bra with no shirt for the second time, and for the first time in front of other humans I’m not married to! Noticed myself “engaging my core” when passing others on the trail, aka sucking in and straightening up so my weird loose-skin-lost-125lbs belly doesn’t hang out. I need to engage my core more when running anyway, I notice I run about 30 seconds a mile faster when I just focus on pulling my stomach in to my spine, put my shoulders back, and push off behind me properly.
5k on trails, plus short walk, didn’t have time for more. My husband tweaked his ankle somehow last run and is babying it for a while. I saw a blue-tailed skink on the boardwalk.
There may be some changes on the time front soon. My mom’s housekeeper who has been staying with her part of the time is breaking up with her husband and wants to know if she can officially become a live-in caretaker. We have to work out details of her room, board, and pay but if this goes well we will be back to living almost normal lives soon. The housekeeper and my mom get on well, she has training as a medical tech and can handle meds, taking bp and bg readings, and is happy to do light shopping, some cleaning, cooking, and driving her where she wants to go. She isn’t up for taking care of the mares, but her husband and she are remaining friends apparently and he has been feeding horses when we aren’t there. We are hopeful that this will work for everyone.9 -
Hello there. I am new to the group. I was training for my first Half Marathon since 2019 as I finished my 50 Half Marathons in all 50 states by my 50th birthday. However, I did something to my hip. Not sure what I did, but I clearly did something. So, I'm going to continue to get massages, stretch and rest my hip until I can figure out what happened. In the time being, I'm thinking I may going step down to the 5K unless I get this hip situation under control. But, I love being around the running community, because I have meet some great people throughout my running journey. Hope to meet more through this group.10

Nice run @katharmonic and glad you beat the storms. I think it is amazing that you can run at all after those long hikes. You are amazing.
@rheddmobile Sorry the cool down didn't last long. Also sorry about DH's ankle. I hope it gets well soon. Hahaha on sucking in your stomach when you pass people. I hope things work out so that the housekeeper can be a full time caretaker for your mom. That would be such a relief for you, I know.
Welcome @steviebee888 . Wow. I'm impressed that you have run a HM in all 50 states! I hope your hip gets better quickly. This group is great...very supportive and very talkative. It moves fast. Feel free to jump in and comment/ask questions, etc.3 -

Mom and I spent the day running errands. I thought we would be home by 2 or so. Nope. It was almost 5! I ate dinner and then did a mile walk on the treadmill. I just didn't have a run in me at that point...not even a recovery run.7 -
Welcome @steviebee888 that 50 in 50 (by 50 even ☺️) is an awesome accomplishment!3

I felt pretty good about the run. I saw a skunk today and a lot of cats. There was one cat at the park with his head stuck in a bag of cheetos. It was a small, single serving size bag. I stopped and took the bag off, but other than that it was an uneventful run.
It's late so I will have to catch up tomorrow.

Rainy and humid today, so I opted for the treadmill. Hamstring was a little better. After 4 years I should be used to it.
@rheddmobile Good to see you engage your core, too. My challenge is too much core and not enough engaging.
Welcome, @steviebee888 . Sounds like you'll be a great addition to the group!!!
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

Hanging out in Florida for a few days. I just thought it was humid in Virginia. The real feel for the past few days when we’ve ended our runs has been from 90 to 94 degrees. And that’s before 8 am. @shanaber even on vacation, I’m still up before 5:30 to run. I’ve always been a morning person. Grew up on a farm and my parents “encouraged” us to get out of bed and into the fields before it got hot.
Wow @katharmonic five peaks—but really as you said six! Superb!
@TheMrWobbly – Absolutely those walks count!
@skippygirlsmom – What an exciting time in life for Skip! Love the picture of her day on the job.
That music was just creepy @polskagirl01!
Hope your hamstring is feeling better soon @Tramboman!
@RunsonEspresso – It’s a hard time to be on the training wagon with your weather. Hang in there!
Read and liked and hugged everyone’s posts – each and everyone of you inspire me daily!

Mountain 14k for me today. My family took the lift for over half the distance, so they did the observation tower and had snacks at the lodge while they waited for me. We went the rest of the way up sort-of together, then started back down at the same time (them walking to the lift, me doing my downhill jog thing) and I beat them to the carI'm pretty sure I've already posted pics from the top, since I've been there before. So this was "almost there".9

Hop back on anyway. Even a little light training beats no training at all.6 -
You are doing great following Hal's instructions @kgirlhart ! I'm glad you were able to get the bag off of the cat's head. I wish people would be more careful with trash. My husband and I once got a racoon's head out of a quart jar and I got a dogs head out of a big plastic jug. They were both so exhausted from trying to get it off and who knows how long it had been since they were able to get a drink or eat anything. It made me really sad to see.
Ooops @polskagirl01 . I guess I need to pay closer attention. Not sure how I messed that up. In too much of a hurry, I guess.
@Tramboman Glad your hamstring felt better today.
@RunsOnEspresso Sounds like you need a little more Espresso in your life ( ) and then get out there and start again...slow and steady. You'll eventually catch up with the wagon and jump back on when the time is right.
@Teresa502 I'm impressed that you are running while on vacation in FL in that heat and humidity.
Nice run/hike @polskagirl01 ! Love the picture. Looks like a great place for a run.4 -

It was raining buckets this morning so I ran this evening with my boys at XC practice. Evening running was weird. Pacing was a lot harder (per the Garmin I went a lot faster, but it was HARD and I don't know why I put myself through that! It's upper elementary and middle school kids and a few of them are rather speedy but you'd think I wouldn't feel such strong peer pressure from a bunch of kids!)
I tried to give myself a good chunk of time between dinner and practice time, but I still felt like my stomach churned the whole time. I mean, overall it was totally fine and I'd do it again if I had to. But definitely more of a morning run person, I think.8 -
In for 60 miles this month. So far I'm at 35.
I'm just coming back from a pesky plantar faciitis issue which kept me ftom running for over six months. Started with a 1 mile run about a month ago. It's going OK so far, except that I got started running again in the terrible heat of the summer and that's kicking my butt. The fact that I've gained 15 pounds over that time doesn't help.11 -
I LOVE seeing that @WhatMeRunning is back here!5

I wound up driving into town this morning to get med refills for Tippy (my dog), pre-plan/pay for my cousin's funeral for him, and get a few groceries I needed. It was almost 2pm when I got home. It had been cloudy all day, but the sun was breaking through, so I opted to run driveway laps so I would at least be in the shade. It was 79°F with 69% humidity. That's better than I have run in lately, but it felt really hot and muggy.
Today's plan called for a 40 minute Foundation Run - 5 min Zone 1, 30 min Zone 2, 5 min zone 1. I felt like I sped up to get my HR was in Zone 2/3. Imagine my disappointment when mile 2 came up as 13:41 minutes...mile one had been 13:25! Mile 3 was even slower. I guess I was working harder, even if the pace didn't show it.3
