It's starting to feel a little easier after a year of very regularly having a couple to unwind. Gotta keep it going now!5 -
Ok so August isn't going to go down as a shinning success for me this year.
7 AF out 24 so far.
Looks like I'll barely be making double figures
However, this is a journey, and the most worth while journeys include a few detours, the odd dead end and a great deal of perseverance.
I'll not give up on the rest of the month. I'll refocus on making the best of a bad job so I can hit September running.
Glad to see so many of your are doing so well this month.

Good morning all of you world wide traveler's! Your posts are wonderful and transport me to incredible places in my mind.
@lilawolf deep breath here.......you will knock it out of the park! 🤞
@Stockholm_Andy and @lmlmrn there is always tomorrow or next month to make your goals closer to what you want. Don't be to hard on yourselves.
@Mellie289 @tmbg1 @spygirl2014 way to go.👍

Found myself in a new place last night. It is a "speakeasy" as they used to call them during the depression. A high end whiskey bar that has whiskey flights (4 flight glasses) that range up to $425.00.
This was my drink of choice there, Sanpellegrino in a lovely stemmed glass. But take a look at that wall in the back ground. That is some serious booze.
The devil did not sway me last night and I was AF in his den of alcohol.

@Lilylady3k no this is not an RV trip in September, it is a music concert that we planned back in April. How lucky you have family to watch your dog. I used to have a gal come to my house and care for my two dogs when we would go away. But then DRAT she got a boyfriend and that was the end of dog sitting. LOL4

“Speakeasies” were a thing during prohibition- the roaring’20’s Once prohibition ended speakeasies closed down and more publicly open bars opened in their place. Ending the Great Depression was a huge motivation to repealing the 28th amendment. There was some overlap of the Speakeasy era with the depression era, but speakeasies were a hallmark of the roaring’20s.
Sorry I’m a history geek.
Good for you for remaining AF through the visit.7 -
Speaking of food and drink.
I suppose it was my family up bringing but my family (nor I now) never have ever considered or thought about while planning a meal, what will I wash it down with?
This whole pairing food with alcoholic beverage ......I dont know.
I watch my husband "try" to do this, and I crack up. You are destroying your taste buds I tell him, "after I just spent over an hour preparing a beautiful meal that could basically be oatmeal on your plate right now and you would not notice because you just numbed your tongue!"
🤔😝6 -
@Cindyk4919 thanks for the correct word. Sometimes ( lots of times, who am I kidding 🤣)
I get excited and make a grammer or spelling or reference error.
All good3 -

It doesn’t help that MFP makes editing your post so difficult and then impossible.3 -
@lilawolf seems you've got this! We should all be fearless and charge forward, full speed ahead, in whatever we want to do.
August! well, that wine devil got me several times. August is a challenge month indeed, with heat and that vacation-model mindset (even if not on vacation, I feel like I deserve to act like it). I also have some of that woe-is-me attitude because of too much work. I need to clear my head of this negative thinking and go jump on my exercise bike and thrown on an Amalfi coast youtube.8 -

All of this talk of Italy!
It had been my plan to go to Italy for my 60th. Some day : - )
Anyway, I PVR this great show. Gino is a chef, Italian, and travels along the coast. Spectacular scenery and the odd meal that he makes from local stuff.

I am continuing with my usual goal, 16-20 AF days for the month, diary style
Saturday Aug 21 - Drinks - Basically started at noon with boozy coffees. Very tiny amounts of very many things, tried so many combinations. Drizzly day, day off, and tomorrow off too. Had a nice visit with some friends who came over. It was so lovely. I have a tenant starting September 1st, so actually staying inside for a change was very pleasant - I was cognizant that I won't have the place to myself soon. Planning a few AF days soon, had no desire to be AF today.
Sunday Aug 22 - AF - Planned drinks for Thursday eve.
Monday Aug 23 - AF - Worked an evening shift, but day shifts for the next 3 and then 1 day off. Trying to refrain from drinks when I work the next day.
Tuesday Aug 24 - AF - Still gunning for that 16 : - )
Wednesday Aug 25 - AF - Really really felt like having a couple. After work I got all of my garlic out in some beautiful sunshine with no smoke in the air. Very late to be harvesting garlic, but my whole garden was behind this year. Stayed AF because I can wait one more day - to my planned drinks day, tomorrow eve.
Rolling total: 15AF days out of 25 days4 -
August goal - at least 2 AF days for every 1 drinking day (So 21 AF and 10 drinks days max). On the drinks days I plan to have no more than 2. ***Revised Goal for August - More AF days than drinks days ***
First 2 weeks of August
8/1 - 8/22 9 AF, 13 drinking days
8/23 AF
8/24 3 Michelob Ultra
8/25 AF
Rolling totals: 11 AF, 14 drinking days6 -

NP. We'll get back on track lmlmrn! Onwards and upwards. At least we both realise we're off-track and that's half the battle I think.
8AF out of 25 days for August.

AF last night again. I'm good with just water at night now.
What's working now for me: coffee after lunch. Just real caffeinated coffee, black no sugar. It's turns off my desire to snack or drink completely, desire to nap gone and keeps me focused on work. I actually feel normal LOL whatever that is!
Oh well I suppose coffee is the least of all the evils....8 -

I am on the daily coffee train. Fresh perked on my stove top every morning. ENJOY!

Well still no signs of the mydrinking app being brought back. I will need to retrace my posts here to see where I left off with drink tallies. Thinking it is like 8 drinks total for August. SEE WHY I NEED that sites ACCOUNTABILTY factor?
AF last night (that I remember 😉)6 -
Iced black coffee with earthy and bold bitters. Best coffee bitters I have ever tasted.
Yes I know that is not a stemmed glass....headed out to garden, no stemmed glassware in gardens!
Pearls perhaps, glass no. Lol

@MissMay I have never seen coffee bitter, now I am going to have to go look for them!
Spent the day with my sister who flew in from OH yesterday. A little retail therapy but it was really depressing. They have every one AGAIN in masks and now the dressing rooms are closed in the stores so it was not much fun. The company was fun but not the shopping.l
Today I am going to see if they have my security badge ready for me, I start work next Friday and looking at my schedule I will have 1 day off a week for the month of September. I hope I can hold out. I am not a night person and my hours are roughly noon to 11pm.
There won't be any time to have alcohol if I am going to survive! so September will be my redemption month7 -

Researched our thread and found my drink accountability:
5 days = eight standard drinks ( one of those days was 3 drinks😡) last drink day August 16th
The rest of August is going to be alcohol free for me!
.
@lilawolf and @lmlmrn these bitters actually were made in Westbrook, Maine. That is where @mainelylisa lives. LISA have you come across this place?
What I really like about the bottle is there is a small ball inside the lip and the bitters have to be shaken out in drops , they will not pour out in a stream. A few drops will do ya at 3.4 oz/$20.00.
HAPPY LAST FRIDAY OF AUGUST. 😎9
