Good afternoon to some LOL
Not been my most stellar weekend but tomorrow is another day. We were out running errands and enjoying the day and stopped for pizza at an iconic landmark around here. So yes I did had pizza and a beer. <sigh> then had to go home for a beer nap.
So I am looking forward to September which will be very busy and I am pretty sure AF.
@MissMay I hope your fur baby is doing better
@mainelylisa a big shout out to you and month 3 being AF I hope to be there one day
I have to say everyone seems to have had a pretty awesome month with only 2 more days to go! I am actually looking forward to the challenge of working hours in the afternoon/evening. Something I have not done since my 20's and I am way way way past them.

Aug 1: A (1 drink)
Aug 2-5: AF
Aug 6: A (4 drinks?)
Aug 7-26: AF Streak: 3 hours shy of 3 weeks!!!!!
Aug 27: A (4 drinks)
Aug 28-29: AF
4/5 Interviews went great, and 1 was ok, but could have gone a bit better. Overall, I think it went well enough to get the job, and, even if I don't, I'm still proud of myself doing everything I could to prepare. I will hopefully know by next Thursday 🤞🤞🤞.
4.5lbs down in the last 3 weeks!
I will be AF for the rest of the month but then I have no idea. Hopefully life is about to get really crazy 🤪.6 -
@lilawolf - You are doing great! It is wonderful to feel some accomplishment ... after preparing and working through everything. GOOD Luck! We are rooting for you.
6 -
Just not feeling it. DH is not feeling well and we are both tired ... so skipped again this evening. AF
August accountability: 17/29 days AF
Alcohol: 12 days (26 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.

@MissMay I hope the pup is doing better! I can't imagine coming home to that...
@lmlmrn was it worth it? Because sometimes pizza and beer is totally worth it 😛
@Womona thank you for the good wishes! Also I really relate to the "less" is the important part not necessarily AF days. I've had a lot of AF days this month, but you can see my A days had 4 drinks which is a little overboard. Being able to stop at one is a skill to be proud of.
@Lilylady3k great month!5 -
I am continuing with my usual goal, 16-20 AF days for the month, diary style
Sunday Aug 29 - AF - So tempted to have a couple after cutting the grass in the heat. It was so nice out. This was my last day off having the house to myself until next May!! I have one tenant moving in Wednesday for the duration of the College term (no, I don't have the room ready) and another moving in next Monday for 7 weeks. Yikes. I really really wanted to have a couple of nice cocktails on my porch with some music and nobody in my space. The next couple of days will be at a breakneck pace with double shifts and trying to get the rooms emptied out and prepared. Best to have a clear head and get up super early.
Rolling total: 16AF days out of 29 days5 -
Well done @lilawolf. Fingers crossed for the outcome you want to hear!
@dawnbgethealthy WOW you have two renters moving in😨. I recall you did a few years ago, but I didn't know it was a reoccurring situation. On top of everything else you got going on. Super woman!
@lmlmrn I am so excited for you to start your gate duty at the fair. You will come across some "interesting" characters. And well have to hear all about them 🤣 plenty of time for you to get back on track in Sept. on the new tread.
WELCOME WELCOME @ToadstoolBetty! Every month I start a fresh thread. We are so happy to have you joining us in your journey for less alcohol. This has changed my life in so many positive ways.
No drinks for me again last night. Taking out August with it dry.
Stay tuned for the link to the September 2021 thread being put up tomorrow afternoon (USA/EST)

During our physicals and bloodwork DH had a high bilirubin (but that is normal for him since his teens). Doc pursued a liver scan just in case. It was clean and clear ... no issues. Whew!7

2 drinks each night this weekend, but off to a fresh start this week!6

Weekend report
Friday nights party was a bust! Too hot and humid. We didn’t stay long at all. I had two tap beers that were filled just 3/4.
Saturday was the planned family get together cookout. My daughter fell ill so her and her family did not come. My son and his two came. Again the heat and humidity were awful. I had a lot of leftover food to package up and freeze (mostly sweet corn) My 16 year old granddaughter hung out in the kitchen with me.
I only had two beers the whole day
Sunday was a different story. We were at the music festival the whole day. Started with the flotilla, then heard 6 bands. One of them was our local super star Raine Stern. She was on The Voice last year and did VERY WELL. It was warm and sunny but a beautiful breeze off the water. I consumed at least 5 beers. Then I came home and had some cream liquor. I’m actually not unhappy with that level of consumption over the entire day.
It’s a good thing that we had our wits about us because my SO went to let the dogs out around 10:00 and there was a car at an angle in the middle of the intersection across from our house. Lights on and running. Driver unresponsive. We called 911. Ambulance and about 7 cop cars ended up showing up. We suspect a heroin or similar drug OD.
Regatta picture for your entertainment pleasure.

Hi @Cindyk4919 what town/city is this picture from? Just curious.
I really hope nobody here was affected by the hurricane . I'm too far from it but there's supposed to be another coming up from Mexico that should weaken by the time it gets to AZ, still that is not normal for us!
Happy Monday is here! September is right around the corner. No messing around here. Plan is to stay on point since I have a checkup in wk 3 Sept followed by vacation week after. I need to get FIT and really HEALTHY!
AF yesterday and I intend to stay AF until Labor Day weekend.5 -

LOVE the "dragon boat" photo! How clever. Sorry it was too hot for some of your outdoor stuff. Hope your daughter and family get well soon.
Nothing exciting going on around here. DH is avoiding dealing with his power boat that needs some repair so he's avoiding the lake. I would like to go but don't really have the energy to push. He works hard and deals with all kinds of stress during the week so I don't want to deprive him of rest and relaxation, in the manner of his choice, on weekends. (I retired from electrical engineering/sales several years ago, so I'm relaxed all the time-ha!) The lake actually had a surprise isolated storm so it would not have been a good day for sailing either.
Where did August go? Honestly, it feels like I was just doing the July lookback. Goals:
M-Th AF: goal met this month.
F-Su 2 drink limit: met goal 2 weekends & exceeded 2 drink limit 2 nights this month.
This is sort of par for the course the past couple months.... I exceed the plan once/weekend half the weekends. One of those days I exceeded my food plan, too, and rather considerably. I had that crazy out of nowhere hunger that preceded a crazy out of nowhere menstrual cycle. (Going to Dr this week to get that checked.) But I've felt pretty normal hunger-wise since then and have not had to put up a ton of effort to stick to my normal way of eating. Last night was a little tempting. DH and I had a margarita before dinner and then he opened a bottle of wine after dinner. He tried tempting me, and I was tempted, but I had moved on to fresca which saved me from the temptation. If I didn't already have an AF beverage in hand, it would have been a lot harder to stop after one drink. Note to self: have a plan for something AF I like; don't be caught empty handed!10 -
I could of ended the day with booze but I just wanted to eat and relax.
Spend 3hrs instead of 1 with a client.
Basically the call to them didn't go as should of gone. It ended so stressful that I burnt over 3000 calories in total

Hello all!
Just one more day left of this month and WOW did it fly by!
I am actually looking forward to September and re-energize myself mentally with less alcohol. I have not defined my goal as of yet, since when I did that at the beginning of Aug, I think I went out of my way to snub my nose at my own goal LOL.
So September I am going to just take that one day at a time. No pressure, no month long whoopee goal just be mindful of AF days and on days "I" choose to keep the count low.
With working at this upcoming fair (I know I am going to get an overdose of people watching, my favorite past time) I am trying to find ways to mentally wind down. In the past that included a few drinks when I got home so I could let the 'squirrels off the wheel' in my head to be able to sleep.
@ahoy_m8 just a quick, my periods have been over for 15 years but I still have unexplained 'there is not enough food' to satisfy me days. They are so frustrating.9 -
DH & I are both AF this evening. Went for a walk after dinner 2 nights in a row. I like this even though the weather is still warm & humid in Houston.
7 -
I like the after dinner stroll, too. We started doing that when colleges sent the kids home at the start of the pandemic. We saw lots of other neighborhood families doing the same. I think everyone just felt so cooped up on their laptops all day inside. We quit when daylight savings ended and I missed it a lot. Started back up when daylight savings started again. On weekends when maybe we have wine with dinner, I start the walk with every intention of having more wine afterward, but when we get back home, the urge has mellowed out a bit. The apre dinner stroll has been a pretty helpful alcohol urge reset for me. Not foolproof, but generally helpful.8

@MissMay
What a memory you have! Yes, I used to rent out rooms, it has been a long time. I like College students from September to April, that leaves the room vacant for company the rest of the time. College has been online only since March 2020.
I also have a guy coming for 7 weeks, Cranbrook has a big Trades wing, and those working toward their journeyman tickets have to do 7 weeks each year for 4 years, they come from all over.
I wouldn't normally rent out both spare bedrooms otherwise. Without tenants I have had one full of winter clothes and gear, the other full of summer clothes and gear. I was planning on just moving everything to one room before I was asked to rent out to this trades student (carpentry). That will pay for my birthday getaway to somewhere close, bigger trip planned for late April next year, I can only get 3 days off for this one since I just started the restaurant job in April.
I have a double shift tomorrow, but will find time to finish up the room for the guy who is coming Wednesday morning. Then I will work on the other one for next Monday's occupancy here and there prior to that.
Busy!!
I harvested garlic this past week, watched a youtube video several days ago that said to leave it for 3 days and then braid it.
Lol, looks kind of messy, but it is done. I have never done that before, I usually hang them for 3 weeks and then put the bulbs in netting in a dark cupboard. Apparently when you braid it you leave it like that and take a bulb off as needed. Like...so where on earth do you hang it? Anybody?7 -

Really glad to hear that your hubby is okay. Perhaps that little scare will create more AF nights for you both. Way easier for you I would think when he also is abstaining.
A walk is an excellent substitute for wine, nice habit to get into!!4 -
I am no stranger to the effects alcohol has on your body. ( my first husband died of cirrhosis of the liver 9 years ago)
There are signs when alcohol is eating your body. I saw "weird" stuff going on with DH1 . Now it is like a repeat movie with DH2.
It can all be swept under the rug, as friends will claim - it is the heat, or long working hours that he is acting this way. Yea, that is what I said for years with DH1.
When the liver becomes to hard to do it's filtering job(removing toxins from the body) the toxins can travel up to the brain and cause confusion and unexplained anger issues.
When this happened I used to drink to "get away" from the person that was unknowingly going through this. UGH.....such a vicious cycle. (I drank to escape the effects that alcohol was having on someone I loved)
So now this time with DH2. I'm fine he says. I have never had an issue with alcohol. I can drink and still go to work. All classic answers.
End of the month rant I guess.
AF last night.

@dawnbgethealthy - I use to buy garlic braided ... it made a cute decor nailed on the side of my kitchen cabinet away from the window.
@MissMay -I wish I could ((HUG)) you. I know it is difficult watching not one but two hubbies drink themselves to the point of no return health wise. My grandmother died of cirrhosis of the liver and it is one of my reasons for being here to be accountable and drink less. Any chance your DH2 will go get a physical and liver scan?
It took a lot of work on my part to convince DH to do the follow up liver scan requested by the doc after his blood results. I'm pretty sure he was not honest with the doc regarding the number of drinks each evening nor his stress & depression. Not sure if the mental gymnastics he went through after the blood results and before the results of the liver scan will make a difference in the future but for now he is not drinking 2-3 bottles of wine + bourbon in the evening by himself (more like only 1 bottle of wine) and he is joining me for a few AF evenings. 🤞4 -
Last day of the month! I did better yesterday battling the crazies and grouchos at work. There are too many! I'm reading the 7 habits of highly effective people and it's helping.
Separately, I read up on how to stop a spouse's drinking behavior and from the list of logical things to not enable it, I saw my enabling behavior...I drink with him. If I want him to stop, then I need to stop too.
Change starts with ME.5 -
Last but one check-in
9 days AF of 30 for August.
Assuming I make tonight then I'll just barely scrape double figures this month. I WILL do better for September
Look forwards to seeing you all again next month.5 -

@globalhiker - What did you read? Book, blog, article? I'm curious if you can share the link.
Totally agree ... enabling is something that @MissMay pointed out to me early on. By me going ahead and drinking the 1-2 glasses of wine out of the first bottle DH opens I was enabling ... not helping him cut back since he would just open a 2nd bottle. One of the light bulb moments that has me thinking do I really want wine this evening or am I doing it to reduce his consumption or am I just giving in when I should be an example. Hence more AF evenings in August!
Good luck with your own situations.5 -
As frustrating as it is, I’ve learned that I can’t care more about a person’s health than they do. It’s like beating your head against a wall. The most painful thing to watch is someone else slowly losing their health over something completely preventable. And if it negatively affects your life, it’s that much worse!!! Hugs to all going through this.
Only a 3 oz pour last night. It was just enough, I didn’t want more. Could I have done without it? Sure, but I really wanted it. At least it wasn’t a full glass. So some discipline there!10 -

I do not have braided garlic, but it sounds great! But for onions, I buy them in 3 lb bags and transfer them to net bags such that they're not touching each other and hang them, for lack of a better place, in my washer-dryer closet. Probably not the best place, but it is a double door closet in the kitchen so it's close at hand when cooking and usually dark. I'm down to my last couple onions or else I'd attach a photo of what I mean.4
