Someone mentioned @Orphia - I see her on my Strava and MFP feeds, running, walking, still doing Parkrun and leading a healthy lifestyle. She's blogged a bit too
I think I've been here a little over 4 years. So many great people!5 -
I have seen frequent Strava updates from @_nikkiwolf_ she still runs but seems to do more cycling and has posted happy, healthy looking pics.
I also see frequent Strava updates from @ddmom0811 mostly Peloton with a mix of running as well.
Also I recall @kristinegift being here before I started. She is still posting regular runs on Strava and hasn't seemed to slow down one bit.3 -
@kristinegift ! that girl was in grad school and had a sponsor running. I loved her, she was so inspirational and supportive, seems all of the old gang was, er is- those of you that are still here and I am glad you are.
I did make it out for some exercise yesterday. I picked up brush, raked and trekked to the ravine and back for 49 minutes. My hip is sore today so I'll have to shoot for a regular walk in the addition. I also logged food and got on the scale today.

My first challenge here was May 2015, which was the month I started running. If it wasn't for this group I wonder if I would have kept it up but the support and knowledge I gained here was instrumental in keeping me going.
What I love about this group is the support for new runners. I never felt like I didn't belong because I wasn't putting up big miles or because I had no idea what I was doing. It's rare to find an online group that is as friendly as supportive as this group.8 -

A couple of us stay in touch with @ddmom0811 she is actually a ddGrandmother now and doing great keeping busy. @Runningmischka baby is probably is school by now. I have to look how long I’ve been here, you all helped me raise Skip and she’s a senior in college now. LOL @kristinegift is still running a ton, we are strava friends, I see her there too.
I’ll register for that too @AlphaHowls thanks.
I had it in my head that IDA would be pouring on me this morning so I didn’t set an early alarm. I should have no rain and much cooler. That’s okay I’m good with my mileage this month.

Wasn't me. I find it can be a scrolling error, just resting in the wrong spot. Sure it was in error. 🤔3 -

I accidentally disagree with people pretty frequently when I scroll on my phone. Then I usually notice it and click something else so it switches. But I'm sure I've missed a few. Blame it on bad button placement on mobile!5 -
@AlphaHowls sorry I accidentally pressed the disagree button when I was scrolling. Sorry if it caused any upset.4
-
That's it @julieannegannon you must now run as punishment! Any time, any distance. But you must run and post your mileage here as proof! (just joking, of course)6

Hi. I'm a long time runner who routinely ran 100-125 miles a month for years (or more if training for a longer race) but I've let my fitness get way out of whack over the last several months and my pace and mileage have decreased dramatically. That was a long sentence. I'm going to set the conservative goal of 60 miles for September and work on getting my groove back.9
-
Welcome @Legs_McGee231
-
@AlphaHowls Too bad that isn't on the 18th....that's when I'm planning to run my HM. Can't really put it off until Sunday. Shoot. Definitely not doing a HM and then a 10K the next day.
I agree @7lenny7 !
Welcome to all the newcomers.
I will have to sit down and try to figure out a goal for September. It will be lower, as I plan to take it easy for a week or so after my HM.

First day of spring here and I have the first runs on the board for September (apologies to those who don't "speak" cricket). Did an hour at aerobic pace this afternoon - about 10.5km. It's still rather windy here but starting to feel very springlike - there was an overwhelming scent of freesias and jasmine in parts of my run. Fabulous. Heady. Almost suffocating. Love it - means summer is on its way.7

My September 5k, which had been delayed, just announced it’s going virtual. My county has a rapidly climbing covid rate and local hospitals are so overwhelmed they have called in the National Guard. Since the race is to benefit a cancer clinic and it includes a big gathering of survivors every year, it makes sense - cancer patients are the people most likely to be immune compromised and fail to develop antibodies in response to the vaccine. It really wouldn’t do to have a big event and kill all the patients!
Anyway I’m disappointed because this race is my husband’s and my Runniversary, the first race we ever ran. Last year they didn’t hold it at all so we ran a private race on our local railroad access road (too many people at the parks!) and made a donation. This year we are gonna run it virtually and plan to run it on the actual course, around Patriot Lake at Shelby Farms. The course is challenging because there’s no shade and September is still summer here. One year it was over 100 degrees at race time! This year on the original date it’s supposed to be lovely weather, what a pity.
No mileage goal, still caring for my mom which only allows us to run at midday, and it’s still punishingly hot. My main goal is to keep on running three times a week, with long runs at least 10k and hopefully working up to 8 miles, some speedwork, and some trails. Hopefully we will get cooler weather and be able to run a little better than we have been lately.12 -
Welcome back @noblsheep and nice to meet you! And hello and welcome to @kkay2345, @jenniferlsk, and @Legs_McGee23!swenson19d wrote: »Monthly question?
How are your yearly goals coming along?
Will you ask a question, even a silly one? or start an interactive word game?
I haven't posted any specific yearly goals in these threads, but I started this year wanting to lose all the baby weight (five times over) and then some more. The first part of that is done! I haven't been this weight since college. I still have a good bit to go, I think, and it might take longer than I initially wanted, but I think in the past I tried to go too hard and burned out. But I've been able to keep up with slow and steady and I'm happy with the results so far.
I ask silly newbie questions about running all the time, and I have no intentions of stopping. :P
I was supposed to run both Monday and Wednesday but it has been raining so hard I didn't go. I don't mind sprinkling or light rain, but I stop at downpour. Today is Ida remnants I think, and school might be closed - I'm still checking my email and the news every three minutes to see if our school has been added to the growing list.
It does make me think a little bit as we move into autumn and winter if maybe I will join a gym or not just to use a treadmill when the weather is too bad to run - though if it's too bad to run, it might very well be too bad to drive to get to the gym, too. I don't have a good place to put one here, especially considering kid safety. I hide all my weights under the sofa at present so the kids don't play with them I guess now I can start researching and growing my wish list of gear for inclement weather!8 -
Welcome newcomers (and old friends)!
7 miles this morning to start off September. Just glad to get through it. So freakin' hot!!
4 -
Starting off the month with a rest day due to pouring rain from Ida. I think it rained all night long. It brought us a break from the heat though. The high today is supposed to be 73F instead of the low 90s that we've been experiencing.
I'm setting my goal at 100 miles for the month. I'm heading out for a few days of vacation on Friday and I doubt very much running will be happening for me while I'm gone.
Welcome to all the newcomers!7 -
9-1 7k easy
September Total: 7k
September Goal: 150k
Cloudy, mid 60s F, with a nice breeze from the northeast. Took a while to warm up the hip today -- last kilometer was a minute faster than the first kilometer. Overall the hip was OK. My mums are starting to bloom and I saw the Autumn sedums beginning to show color. As I recall, September marks the beginning of meteorological fall here in the northern hemisphere, while @ContraryMaryMary is enjoying the first day of meteorological spring in the southern hemisphere.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)
2021 Races:

Back in this challenge after a long break (from the thread, not from running...) I'm currently about 114 miles away from surpassing my total mileage from 2020 for this year. [2020 total = 1,284.38 miles, 2021 to-date = 1,170.44 miles]
9/1 - Easy Run - 5.1 miles (45:30 - 8:55/mile)
September To-Date: 5.1 miles
September Goal: 141 miles (I've got a vacation in here, so this may be a little tricky...)
Percentage Complete: 3.64%7 -

Where's @T1DCarnivoreRunner ? and @karl Lundy... can't remember his MFP name. and @ juliette ugh forgot that too, the Canadian fella?
ETA Im so inspired, Im gonna shuck my jammies and go for a short walk.
Hey Elise!! I see you changed your MFP name.
Karl Lundy's MFP name is simpy, @karllundy
The "Canadian fella" is @juliet3455
My yearly goals took a big hit with my own case of PF. I went nearly 7 months without running and and been back at it for just a month now. My current goal this year is to slowly, steadily increase my miles without aggravating my PF again, in the hopes of running a 50 mile race next year, with 100 mile race being a stretch goal. My other goal is to start, and stick to, a flexibility and strength routine. Not doing well on that yet.
My September goal is 80 miles
@swenson19d @7lenny7 Good to see that some still remember me.
Still lurking around and slowly returning to running - ie 4min run 1 min walk x4 alternate days.
Really tough when you were used to dropping a 10-20 k run without a thought and now a 2-3km run/walk is a workout.
I have had all the typical running in juries.
Shin Splits 3rd worst injury.
PF rates as 2nd worst injury.
Sprained weight bearing joint is the worst.
Last year in August while out on a trail run I hit some leaf mold on a slight downhill off angle hill - cross slope - the downhill foot took off - the uphill foot was on solid ground with good trail shoes ie no slide. Resulted in re-injured a previously sprained left hip. Of course I was 3 km from civilization with no phone. Painful hobble back. The doctor/physio said I was lucky as it could have been a full dislocation.
Still feel it on hills and after long days at work.10 -
@juliet3455 Oh man, I am sorry to hear you are battling injuries. I've had to much hip pain and the the thought of a sprain, or potential dislocation makes my bones ache for you. Be patient with it, I's sure you know those ligaments can take a long time to recover. I found the deep electric stimulation very helpful; chiropractors may offer it also. It is suppose to increase blood flow and promote healing since those tissues have little. It helped with my hip and lumbar spine. You and @WhatMeRunning can commiserate on the PF. Hang in there. Glad to see you back!

This second wave of covid is scarier (to me) than the first. We have all sorts of business on reduced hours due to the lack of employees, the high school is even back to online with all the teachers/staff out.
Might you and the Dh consider a postponement of the runniversary until cooler weather? or half on the runniversary and half in October or November? You've had a lot going on this summer, you can pace yourself 😁. How are those trouble brothers? I found poop yesterday with what looked like plum seeds and hoped it was a raccoon so I could have my own tribe. Want me to get a pic for id?

HI NEWBIES (to me)! I love FR but... please mention this thread or I will deny it as a bot or weird0. Welcome and lace up, this party is just getting started and the heat training is about to pay dividends. unless your in the souther hemisphere @Avidkeo . How ya doing?2 -
9/1 – 6.22
6.22 of 75 miles
Registered for the Guinness World Record Official record attempt - thanks for letting us know about it @AlphaHowls
IDA left us with a bit less humidity today, let’s hope it last more than 10 minutes.
Welcome to all the new folks.
@rheddmobile I’m sorry about your race, I think we’ll be seeing more of that again.
I’ll ask a silly question this month – What are your pre-race rituals? Is there always something you eat the night before or the morning of? Do you wear a certain pair of socks or hat? What do you always do?
Hey @juliet3455 big wave – sorry for the injuries.
2 -
Posting my first walk for September. I'll spoiler it since I sometimes do more than one of these per day and the tally might get a bit long.9/1 - Morning Walk - 4.31 miles4

Hi @juliet3455 – so sorry to hear about all the injuries. Haven't experienced the sprained weight bearing joint pain, but I agree with the assessment of PF and shin splints. Have had multiple bouts of both and they are very painful (and long lasting). Hope you can rebound quickly!
@AlphaHowls I am registered.
@skippygirlsmom the only pre-race rituals I have are drinking coffee (food isn't always the same...sometimes oatmeal, sometimes peanut butter toast), foam rolling my achy legs, applying icy-hot to said achy legs, and doing some dynamic warm-up. I always wear my Halo hat and clip a headlight to it.
