Machka that is rough about the under the surface suffering with brain injury.
Brain injuries affect so much of a person's body and life, especially severe ones.
For example, my husband has a weak left leg and right arm - it has nothing to do with nerves or muscle strength, but it has everything to do with his brain. His brain doesn't transmit the right messages.
So his walking is uncertain and he drops things.
That's just one example!
We deal with most of the things on the two lists ... sometimes he has a bad day and we deal with just about everything, other times he has a good day and we might only deal with one or two things. Most days are somewhere in between.
Imagine how each of us feels on days when things aren't going so well.
Fortunately over the years I have stumbled on some tricks to try to improve our odds of a better day.
Another thing I feel like venting about sometimes is how some people treat my husband. He looks reasonably normal (except for the great divot in his head) so he gets treated like a complete idiot sometimes in customer situations when he has trouble asking the right questions or responding in the right way ... or understanding what he is being told. This hurts his feelings and upsets him ... and brings out the "Mama Bear" in me.

Kylia – Sending prayers for your friend.
Margaret – I hope you’re able to take your friend to lunch. :flowerforyou:
Today is 911. It is the date of my Mother’s birthday. She was born September 11, 1911. It is also the anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center in NYC. Mom did not live to see that horrible event and I am happy that she did not see it. She would have been devastated. I haven’t figured out whether or not to watch TV coverage of the event today.

Kylia ~ Healing prayers for your friend. During the past two weeks my son, daughter in law, and grandson have dealt with Covid. All but grandson were vaccinated but daughter in law is a teacher and son a restaurant manager so they are constantly out in the public. Just hoping grand daughter does not get it although she has had a sinus infection for two weeks no.
When 9/11 happened I was teaching and my students were out for PE. We were terrified but not able to say anything to the students. They started getting very suspicious when so many were called to leave and be picked up by parents.

The thing I remember about 9/11 is that the schools closed and traffic near DC was absolutely horrible. It took me a good two hours to get home from work. DD was six and I didn't know where she would go from school. As I remember, she walked home and got inside okay. But I was really scared for her, and that more attacks would happen.

Michèle you are great in your continuity in workouts.
Thanks. 🙃🙄😁. Yesterday was just a small bowl of broth with a couple pieces of chicken, and pasta. Then some toast. I definitely was sore! Husband did the shopping, thankfully it was only a small run, and I just crossed out items that were mine. I can go later next week if I really need them. He had bought some Gas-X tablets, so I took one. Last night slept so deeply, it was wonderful and I really needed it!

Julie ... my leg break (tibia plateau) requires no weight bearing for 6 weeks. So I've got another 3-1/2 weeks give or take until I can get out of the chair. Part of my problem is my "good" leg was my "bad" leg before the break and it is unable to really support hopping that you do when using crutches or a walker. The memories are difficult right now in regards to my son. I recognize that we do our best at the time, but I think it is human to wish we had done better. Glad to hear your blemish is receding.
Rebecca ... your stomach/gas ailment sounds familiar to me. I eliminated carbonated beverages of any kind from my diet and I'm very careful with things like beans/raw vegetables/etc that can gas. I watch my fat intake as well. It's been suggested that I check my gall bladder, but these changes have made a world of difference and I've not had an attack like you experienced for many, many moons. Hope you're feeling better today.
9/11 ... My oldest was in high school and I was getting youngest ready for his first day of pre-school when my husband called from work and told me to cancel my son's pre-school and turn on the TV. He worked for a utility and they were on high alert. I remember driving to a medical appointment in Cleveland with my older son a few days later ... watching the skies and not seeing any contrails from airplanes ... because everything was grounded. It seemed surreal then. I watched some of the commemorative coverage this morning and found myself in tears.
Barbara ... kudos to you for recognizing what is more important and happy to hear you enjoyed the time with Joe.
Pip ... thinking of you today while you ride!
My husband and I just tried to clean the family room and kitchen ... he with a bad back and me in a wheelchair. It's not perfect, but it's better. Later I am helping him make a triple batch of chili to take to church tomorrow. It's our Fall Kick-off and they're doing something after the service that is also football themed ... Go Bills! I'll stay at home and watch online. As the church struggles to find a replacement for me (I'm the housekeeper), I received an email from the Pastor telling me he never realized how I did. Nice to be appreciated.
Another beautiful day in western NY.

I spent the morning watching the 911 Memorial in New York City. Many of those who spoke were there om the day of the attack or are the adult children & grandchildren of people who passed away back then. It was well done in my opinion. I’m a bit teary eyed.
Now I am watching collegiate football and the Oregon Ducks are ahead of Ohio at this point. I will be cheering for the Ducks. DH & I are both U of O graduates and we met there many years ago while still students.
Barbara – I also watched both the 911 attack on the World Trade Towers and also the Challenger disaster. I was a volunteer mom at my children’s elementary school when the Challenger exploded and I was with a huge group of elementary students. We turned the TV off asap and the school called the parents to pick up their kids for the rest of the day. Unforgettable memories in both situations.
I also remember a 2009 incident on the Hudson River when a bird strike caused the passenger jet engines to fail. I haven’t seen any recent news about the Pilot, Sully, who managed to save his passengers after the jet hit the water in NY. I have always considered him a hero.

Beth near Buffalo, wise words! I had beans in my soup that day, plus on the strawberry custard ice cream I had poured a bit of Bailey's strawberry and cream liquor. So add the spoonfuls of red beans and rice and I created a perfect storm!
I have not been drinking soda though.

On the afternoon (for us) of the 11th September 2001, I was in the British Museum. I was on my way to college where we were going to be doing recruitment for courses. I often stopped off at my favourite museum.
I went to the coffee shop in the Great Court for a cup of tea and a brownie. I could overhear some people talking nearby who were talking about some terrible attack, which must be terrorism. I went straight outside and bought an afternoon newspaper from the nearest shop.
Terrible pictures on the front page.
When I went to work our head of department was talking about 'Al Quaeda'. I had never heard of them and thought he was spouting his usual nonsense.
For days afterwards I was expecting an attack on the City of London.

Great job Pip!!
DH is gone for the weekend- helping a co-worker at Stock-Con(comic convention). They left early this morning and won't be home until late tomorrow night.
I tried to sleep in but couldn't- got up, had my tea then started on a few chores. Made a big breakfast for my son.
Not sure if he will be home tonight for dinner or not- told him if he isn't, I won't be cooking. There are plenty of left overs I can have.
Not eating much today- Was awake at 1AM and kept thinking about the big bear claw we picked up at the bakery while out for lunch yesterday- I had some last night after dinner- because I still had calories to use, even after fish and chips and beer for lunch(ate half the food but finished the beer-couldn't take it with me). Ended up getting up and finishing the bear claw. Counting that on today's calories. Will fill up on 0cal or super low cal beverages for most of the day. I will go walking with my friend for 90 min so that will help.
Going to clean a bit more, do some sewing and ?? for this weekend. Enjoying it while it lasts.
I was going to go out to check out some garage sales but decided not to.
Have a wonderful day ladies

Michele I eat in a very structured way that doesn't include sweet bread of any sort so there is no zucchini bread recipe that would work for me. I gave up baking more than ten years ago

Started to do some of the Turbo Jam DVD but decided that it was WAAAAAY too dancy for me so it’ll go to the Salvation Army. So I walked around the block twice (about 1-1/2 mile each time). The plan for tomorrow is to do a More that Mat Pilates DVD.
Bananas – thank you. I firmly believe that working out helps my hot flashes not be as intense. Oh, they’re still there. But sweat isn’t pouring down my face and legs. I noticed this when I broke my foot a while ago. I couldn’t exercise and the hot flashes were intense. Once I was able to exercise, they weren’t as intense. So that’s the motivation to exercise. I usually take one day for active recovery when I do yoga or pilates or stretching. I remember when MIL was in a wheelchair. We did get expedited.
While we were in FL I had this rash that was itchy around my waist. I told Vince that it was a heat rash, that this had happened to me once before and the MD kept telling me it was a food allergy. She put me on prednisone. Shortly thereafter we went camping to a much cooler environment. It disappeared. I stopped the prednisone. I didn’t know that you should wean yourself off prednisone, but I didn’t have any reaction. Well, it’s getting cooler and the rash is gone.
Barbara - I never heard of that cure for bumps. Thanks for sharing My resolve to eat good diminishes as the evening wears on, too. That’s one of the reasons I like to do some sort of craft in the evening. Keeps my mind busy and off food (sometimes)
We can co-mingle all our recyclables. One time we went to the recycling center here. It was very very interesting. I found out that things like the plastic on cardboard that things like toothbrushes and makeup come on are recyclable as long as you take the plastic part off the cardboard. Where in NJ did you work?
Does anyone remember how quiet the skies were after 9/11? No planes. I remember going to the Y and watching it over and over on their TV
kylia – How sad for your friend’s family. Were they vaccinated?
Beth – when Vince had the tibial plateau fracture, he found it easier to use a walker than crutches.
Brought all the indoor Halloween items inside then went in the pool. Church tonight
PIP – YOU GO GIRL!!!
The lady I know at the Y is in the musical “9 to 5” which we’re going to see Sat. She always liked my ginger cookies. I think I’ll make some for her, just not sure when.
Went to church, and I admit that even tho the priest is probably over COVID, I felt uneasy and wore a mask. Well, it didn’t hurt anyone.
Michele NC3 -
Well I got the henna on my hair but I missed my dumbbell exercises. And the cookies called me. I should have eaten something healthier. I need to go grocery shopping for salad stuff.
Tomorrow I am supposed to drive up into Pennsylvania for a picnic. I'm not at all sure that it will be fun, but maybe. I haven't been out of the house in awhile. Driving that far is scary. I don't have a real GPS just Google Maps, and I can't read it without pulling over. Something about the bifocals just doesn't work for a quick glance. It will be an adventure.

Celebrating DH's 75th birthday this weekend, so won't be on here much.

Why did I ever tell my friend I would go to this picnic? It's to meet the wrestling team from my old college. He said there would be single men my age there. But now that it's tomorrow, I remember that I know nothing about college wrestling! What am I going to talk about? My inner introvert wants to weasel out of going.

Congrats Pip, Kirby, and Yogi!!! You guts are amazing!2

Thanks for all the pats on the back, I felt them all5

Terri – happy birthday to your husband
Annie DE – I’d admit to the guy that I didn’t know very much about wrestling and ask him questions. I’m willing to bet that he’ll be more than happy to inform you
