So far behind on the posts as usual! We finished this part of our testing early so I have a week at home, well almost at home, I leave on Wed morning to meet Skip at the beach until Sunday. Yay! Mommy daughter time! Work was really killing me so my running last week suffered, that’s okay I don’t want to make running a chore so if I choose not to run I didn’t. I did manage to get my November half in. I’m really excited about this one, the others were with some walking or I did 10 miles and finished 3 at night something like that, this one was 13.1 all running, no splitting it up, no walking, I’m so happy. Still 50 minutes behind my PR but hey I’m good with that.
Medal for Nov
MFP just told me I’ve been here 8 years. Wow
Thanks everyone for the kind words on the 12K. I just signed up for a HM in February at Gulf Shores called We Run This Beach. It’s in the state park and it has full and half options. Skip is doing the full (or so she tells me), I’ll do the half.
I went through the posts I missed doing liking and hugging.
@katharmonic beautiful pictures from last week.
@rheddmobile I get very frustrated with people who don’t move or take up a whole trail. In the 12K Ansley’s Angels was there, they are an organization that runs with adults (mostly) in special race wheelchairs. I ran with them a bit and if that girl didn’t yell on your right over and over and over, if you can’t hear someone yelling at you because either you are rude or have earbuds in just think if she was a car or attacker. OMG I don’t know if I should laugh or cry about the couple with the dog. Maybe she had a plan to push him off the cliff!
@polskagirl01 sorry about the hospital trip

Great job on your November half @skippygirlsmom! I haven't unwrapped the November medal yet, I like it. And wow to 8 years on MFP! I've been on 6, it's kind of shocking how fast time goes by isn't it? And so great to have built an online community over those years.
@polskagirl01 hope you are feeling better and the stone is not painful now.

Warm-up before strength training, per usual a little shorter than planned. Way behind the mileage goal for the month but I knew it was too ambitious to set the usual 100 mile goal.

@skippygirlsmom - congratulations on your HM! You are making an amazing comeback! How is your ankle feeling? I have been here for 10 years and can't believe it has been that long!
@SummerSkier - Beaux is really young, just 8mos and the collar does help control him better. Just a tiny correction reminds him of where he needs to be, important because he wanders all over and I have tripped with him before. A lot of people don't like that type of collar but when used properly they work very well. His parents work with a trainer for him (he is a rescue so not a lot of early training) and the trainer recommended it and it is only used for going for walks. We also used one for Hobbes when he was younger. Now we only use it when we go to the dog beach, to get from the car to the beach where he can be in just a normal collar, because he gets just SO excited. I hear you on the tired old legs - I am pretty sure mine are even older and in a little over a week they will be even older yet!
@katharmonic - At times Hobbes seems to love having him here to play and hang out with and other times he just wants to escape to anywhere that Beaux isn't. 🤣 We leave the day after Beaux goes home, to drive to No CA and I expect that Hobbes will sleep the entire way!
@martaindale - I think the distances we get on our shoes are highly dependent on how much cushion they have and we are used to. I wear pretty minimal shoes so there isn't much cushion to get compressed/worn out and I can easily get more than 500 miles, as long as all the other parts hold up. My more cushioned shoes though I typically seem to get much less before they start to give me niggles or out right pain.
@rheddmobile - When I had the Altra Ones I always felt like they looked like clown shoes!
Another hot, dry and windy day today. Beaux had us up early so I went ahead and took the pups out while it was somewhat cooler (mid-70s). Beaux is at that age where pups become afraid of things and the wind made him really jumpy. The plan was to walk with the pups and then go out by myself for a run. I ended up just taking them for all of it. I didn't want to push Beaux to run too much so we did short bits of running mixed with walking, which also works into the training process - he doesn't just get to go full speed and pull us along, although my pace, even with the walking was a minute per mile faster than I have normally been running! Almost like interval speed work! It was nearing 90 again by the time we got home and the wind and low humidity (9%) had taken its toll on all three of us. I didn't take one but both pups crashed out for nice long naps!

Mostly sunny, upper 20s F, with a little breeze that shifted so it could be in my face for most of the run. Saw a nice buck on the way home from the chiropractor. Heard a lonely robin squawking; some nuthatches talking, and a bluejay foraging under a beech tree.

I haven't ran since Sunday morning due to getting my booster later that morning. I felt pretty crappy all day yesterday with body aches and fatigue so I didn't want to commit to running before work this morning. Woke up still feeling crappy but much better after a shower and Tylenol. Perhaps I will get back out there tomorrow. I like what @skippygirlsmom said about not wanting running to become a chore.6

23 Nov. 145 out of 150 done. 139.4 left to go for 2021 miles. Weather is supposed to start getting crappy tomorrow night so it is going to take ALL my strength to try to keep up the mileage in the cold rain. yuck.

Ah just when I thought I’d have a few days at home, someone sent upgrades to my servers at work and in order for them to boot back up you need to input a code…well they all went to sleep to not wake up until I went in to input the code…THEN I get home another guy says hey I’m going to send another update to your servers, WTF they can stay dead until Monday LOL. We don’t have anyone in the building so there’s no one to ask to do it for me. Have a nice 5 days of sleep.
Leaving in the morning to head to the beach and meet up with Skip. The condo is big enough for friends/boyfriend but I'm happy to report all those invited are going to see family instead...I love her friends and I like the boy well enough but it will be nice to spend time with just her.
@shanaber for the most part the ankle is good, it gets sore and swollen and sometimes gives me a sharp pain, but nothing big deal. The thing I don’t like is I can’t flex it nearly as much as the other and 2 of my toes are still numb. 10 years is a long time.
@Teresa502 sorry the booster had you not feeling so well. I think we need to give ourselves permission to not run/walk/exercise for a day or two or what we mentally need for ourselves.

@skippysmom it has been less than a year since your ankle surgery if I recall. When I had knee surgery one time the entire outside of my calf area up around my knee was numb for a long long time. Like years. I actually don't recall how long but the feeling did come back. I wonder if the numbness in your toes is due to swelling internally or the hardware or the surgery messing with some nerves. With my femor spiral fracture and titanium rod I had to have them remove the screws at my knee a year later as they started bothering me. I also had SHARP bone pangs with that particular recovery as the femor knitted. It drives me a little crazy to realize that some things will NEVER return to the full place they were (like flexibility for you) but I guess I learned that lesson a long time ago after ligament damages. sigh. I am just grateful that I can be as active as I can.5
-
So I've decided to remove myself from this challenge since I'm not quite up to running just yet. I'll be back, though.9
-
@skippygirlsmom happy 8th mfp-anniversary! Have fun at Gulf Shores! Our extended family has been going there for Summer vacation for many years.
@SummerSkier hope the weather isn't too too bad so you can get those final miles in.
@Teresa502 sorry you are having bad symptoms from the booster. I was hoping to get mine this week but think it's going to be pushed to next week.
@shanaber it looks like Hobbs and Beaux are becoming best friends! They are very cute together.
6 miles this evening. Felt pretty good after the first few minutes. Tried to take it fairly easy. Ended up just about like my normal 6 mile pace, if not a tad faster. Not bad at all.

Yesterday’s run was not good. Heart rate spiked to 209 and I ended up in the ER. Had to walk three miles back to the car after stopping running. Probably related to my lupus flare since that’s what it has done in the past. I have been afraid this would happen ever since I started running but have been lucky so far. In the past I have ended up bedridden with tachycardia for months due to lupus.
ER was no use whatsoever. Zero f’s given on any level - the check out nurse was furious when she found they never gave me the aspirin ordered by the doctor when I arrived (standard for anyone with cardio symptoms.) It was three hours before anyone even talked to me about what was going on. I know my EKG was normal apart from being fast when I arrived, no inflammatory markers so probably not a heart attack, d dimer negative so no blood clots. Bloodwork weird as usual, I always have weird blood work due to lupus, but nothing indicating what is going on with my heart.
Anyway I am supposed to see a cardio within two days - on thanksgiving - so pray for me, because that isn’t happening. And now I know in advance I might as well throw myself off a bridge as go to the ER. There were people in the waiting room sitting there with IVs dripping, they would take you back, do a thing, send you back out. Chapel closed because of Covid so I was witness to a family learning that their son was brain dead and would they like to donate his organs. You would think they could find some private space for something like that. Just grim.12 -
@rheddmobile oh my, that is terrible. I'm so sorry you went through that (and still are). I know these virtual hugs aren't the same, but I'm sending you a big one. And I will be praying for you.1

@rheddmobile sooooo sorry! That sounds scary, both the heart scare and the ER treatment. Huge hugs going out to you ❣️😥0

I am feeling so much better today. Thanks for the kind words @Scott6255 and @skippygirlsmom. Back to normal…. 😊 Brrr! It was a chilly 21F this morning when I met a couple of friends to run. We got 5 miles in before the sun came up.
Hope you have a great beach trip with Skip @skippygirlsmom with no work worries!
We will be here when you’re ready to join back in @Lorelei19.
Oh goodnesss @rheddmobile I’m so sorry you are having heart issues and got such poor treatment (or lack thereof) at the ER. That’s just dreadful. Sending prayers your way.
2 -
@rheddmobile I'm so sorry you are going through such a hard time with your lupus flare. That ER sounds dreadful and totally overwhelmed.
Enjoy the beach and mother-daughter time @skippygirlsmom1 -

I found a loop around a little pond in my neighborhood that is 400m around! I have been wanting to find a track for speed work days but you either have to pay for whatever gym the track belongs to (nope) or work around the school and athletics practice times to use the ones at the schools. That is hard because my schedule is so variable and I really find it easier to run in the morning. Of course, the track is mostly available in the the evenings after practices wrap up. So, this find was a perfect option. And there is a little fountain and some trees and ducks. Much less boring than a track!
So, I did 7 x 400m intervals targeting 5k pace yesterday. I am still relearning what these paces feel like, so the first few were 8-10 secs fast but the last 3 were only 2-3 secs fast and felt quite a bit easier. Getting it dialed in. I really enjoy speed work when the weather is nice and cool!
Headed out to the hill country today after work for the holiday weekend and plan to get a couple of runs in out there. It's going to get pretty chilly overnight but warm up to running shorts weather, so I am packing all the options! I hope all the US based folks have a good holiday weekend!9 -

No words.
Wow.
Ok, actually, some words about the completely incompetent ER. At an appointment I had yesterday, my doctor (in a hospital building, post surgery follow up appointment) mentioned their syringes were all on backorder and he was apologizing for using a different sized one than required. I laughingly said, "isn't everything on backorder these days", and his answer was a little chilling. He said most of their supplies were that way and he was afraid of what the endgame was.

24 Nov. 150.6 out of 150 done. 134.3 left to go for 2021 miles. Starting to shift my focus from quantity to quality of the work. I have 880 miles with a less than 10 min pace and 110 with a less than 9 min pace so far this year. But absolutely NOTHING with a less than 8 I dunno if I am built to get there but I want to try.
OH MY GOODNESS @rheddmobile that sounds totally scary and the ER is rediculous! interesting about your HR and LUPUS. Have you considered that you might be getting some myocarditus (or something) due to reaction from the booster Covid shot? I know a friend of mine had that and they gave her IBUPROFIN for it. oddly enough. I hope you can get it figured out and be able to wear those NEW UGLY shoes.
@martaindale wonderful news on finding the loop. I have been running in my neighborhood for so long that I actually know where all the qtrs are so I have been pushing myself to do more tempo runs now the weather is nicer at lunchtime. I briefly had my running coach here in Austin and we did some track work a few times (then he split with his GF here and moved back east again). It was eye opening. I wonder if I might need to actually find a coach to help me get faster or if it's even worth it at my age... hahahaha
@WhatMeRunning my job is all about supply chain and I can't tell you how stressful it is dealing with customers. I mean they KNOW it's all crazy and lead times are out YEARS vs weeks right now but they stil think that somehow I can pull a miracle and find something without paying 300x the price or ending up with counterfeit items... The hospital stuff is no surprise. I am always shocked at what things stock out at the grocery out of nowhere as well. I know it's all about COVID but honestly I just cant figure why almost 2 years in we are so far behind and getting worse.
@Teresa502 glad to see you are FEELING better today!!! YEAH!!!!

@rheddmobile so sorry and I hope you are ok, and that you figure out what is going on with your heart. Terrifying about the ER and supplies, but unfortunately I'm hearing the same all over. We are headed for a major healthcare crisis and it boggles the mind to think about.

I didn't post yesterday. I got too busy with holiday prep. But I had a great run. The weather was chilly, but not too cold. I felt great the whole run. I ran just over 5 miles.
Today's run was pretty good, but not as good as yesterday. I ran just over 5 and a half miles today. It wasn't as cold, but the wind was pretty strong and it made the run feel hard. I did have an interesting encounter with a cat. There were some trash carts at the curb and when I ran past one I startled a cat that was inside. He lept out of the cart and crashed right into me as I ran past. Then I stepped on him when he hit the ground. I was flailing a bit, but I didn't fall, and luckily no one saw me. They might have heard me though because first I shrieked, then I just burst out laughing. If the poor cat would have just stayed in the trash cart I would have never even known he was there.
There are no turkey trots in my area, but I am planning to run in the morning. I hope everyone in the States has a great Thanksgiving!

@skippygirlsmom Congrats on your HM. I hope you and Skip have a great time at the beach.
@Teresa502 Glass you are feeling better.
@rheddmobile How awful! I'm so sorry you had to go through that.1 -
@rheddmobile - Oh my goodness! Hope you are ok! I have read that you have to be a vocal advocate for have someone with you who can be your advocate in the ER. Women with heart related symptoms are regularly ignored and under normal circumstances wait considerably longer than men with the same symptoms for any kind of treatment (like the aspirin you should have been given right away).
@Teresa502 - so glad yo are feeling better!
@martaindale - love that you found a perfect 400m loop! Wish I could find one here!
@kgirlhart - too funny about the cat! I bet it was wishing it had stayed put too!
I took the pups out today before the winds got bad again. We are having on again off again Santa Ana winds and very low humidity (<10%). Temps were down today but are expected to be up into the mid-80s and even into the 90s the next couple of days again.
It was a challenging walk/run with the pups. Beaux the Vizsla puppy was full of it today pulling and wanting to go really fast. The other day I thought it was because of the wind but today there really wasn't any so who knows, just puppy craziness I guess. He is also at that stage of being afraid of things, so it was crazy. At one point on the way home he startled at a sound and then jumped into me at another sound and I went down. He broke my fall sort of but I pushed him out of the way so I wouldn't fall on him. I ended up in the bushes with both pups jumping on me 😂 I am sure we were a sight! Fortunately I have no scrapes or bruises. Both pups are zonked out now.
Tonight the winds are howling (40+mph) and I am a bit worried about our trees. I am also hoping my loaded tangerine tree doesn't lose all its fruit overnight.
Shoe porn and puppy picture under the split. My new Topo Athletic ST-4 shoes that I won in a drawing. They look great but they are my least favorite of the ST-x line. If they weren't free I would probably return them and get something else. They are not the light responsive shoes that I am used too and I can't figure out what is so different.

I gobble wobbled for 5 miles this morning. Temp was about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday at a balmy 30F. Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans observing this holiday! I'm thankful for each of you and all the support, encouragement and motivation you give to me!
Too funny about the cat encounter @kgirlhart.
@shanaber anytime I hear mention of the Santa Ana winds, I think of that movie Holiday. Sorry Beaux took you down but sounds like he and Hobbes were “on top of things”! Too bad the shoes aren’t comfy, but I do like that color….what size are they? Lol. Keep the puppy pictures coming! Oh and pie! Is that pumpkin?
5 -
@Teresa502 - These winds have been brutal overnight. Enough that I had to hold on to walk out back with the pups and the full trash bins (heavy with lawn clippings, etc.) got blown over and down the street. Thanks goodness I have not heard of any fires - that would really be bad. The shoes are an 8 a full size up from my normal size. The old models didn't have any overlays on the upper and I think that may be what makes them feel so stiff. Yep the pie is pumpkin...because I am running for pumpkin pie this month 😊
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the US or who otherwise celebrates it. I too am so thankful to have all of you to share our running exploits and get support and encouragement!5 -

Turkey trot day! 156.28 miles out of 150 goal for Nov. 128 left for Run the year. I am going to try to make all of them under 10 min pace! a stretcccccchhhhhhhh goal.
I don't know what those winds are but I always call them blue northers because they come in quite fiercely, Tough to run also as when it is at your back your are way too warm but when it's in your face it's frigid!

9 miles this morning. Didn't feel as easy as the other day. Wind was 23mph, gusts of 35mph. But got some work in for Thanksgiving, so that was the objective.
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! 🦃
