HELLO LESS ALCOHOL family
Another AF evening.
Our weather is lovely. 45° beats snow, ice or below freezing any day in my book. I was able to pound drive way stakes into the soft ground yesterday as a guide for the plow driver WHEN it does snow.
Glad everyone liked the ice skating rink pic.
@dawnbgethealthy that was at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. It was empty because it was very late at night, the casino is 24 /7, but the rink is not. I wish I could have fit in all the holiday decorations out in that area, they were mind blowing.
@Lilylady3k I am catching up on posts. That was horrible to hear of the accident with the pregnant Mom. Glad she and baby are safe.
@lmlmrn making your own gummies? Do tell. This will go on your long list of things your accomplished at I'm sure.
Needing to shop and do a bit of baking in the next few days for gifts.
Make this a great Tuesday.

Love the ice rink picture! That's so beautiful!
I was feeling a lot of anxiety last night. I was hungry all day, too, but for what I didn't know. At first I thought it was just hormones (peri-menopausal here), but then I realized it would have been my wedding anniversary with my late husband. I decided to have a few glasses of wine to settle my mind and help me fall asleep.
Well, my tolerance is gone! I took the opportunity to observe how I felt and to note that although I wasn't drinking any more than would have been normal a few months ago, it was more than I realized at the time. Or perhaps more than I acknowledged. I did at least sleep through the night.
So, today I have a mild hangover and I'm a little depressed because settling down with my nightly wine used to be the best part of my day and now I see I'm going to have to make a permanent change. Also, it's like 80 degrees and overcast and doesn't feel very Christmassy at all!
Tonight will make it 12/14 days AF.7 -

Interesting story … sounds a lot like us. Finding it enjoyable to be mindful & drink less.

Thanks, @ahoy_m8. It's been many years, but certain dates still get to me.
On a happier note: Happy belated birthday!5 -
At a party tonight in an absolutely beautiful home ... very modern. Here is a pic of the wine room that over looks the downstairs
AF ... yes there was wine and nothing else served. I got water out of the faucet. Focused on mingling and talking to old friends and met a number of new people. It was nice. DH had a Christmas party within a few miles too that was alcohol free ... he dropped me off and picked me up since we were about 20 miles from home. No need for 2 cars and neither of us needed a designated driver for a change.
December accountability: 9/14 days AF
Alcohol: 5 days (12 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.

@Mouse_Potato the holiday season brings out so many different emotions for everyone.
I happen to share your exact sadness this month as well, it would have been my 33 wedding anniversary to my late husband this Friday.
Your accountability here is important to us as well. Hope your hangover passed quickly.

@LILYLADY3K that is a home? It looks like a hotel or high end restaurant.
I just had anxiety thinking what a cleaning nightmare it must be.
Came across a refrigerated wine tower that went up thru 3 floors of the the Foxwoods Casino. I immediately thought of everyone in this group. Lol
Good work on AF during a gathering.5 -
Happy emotions sad emotions, anxiety, depression, deadlines, commitments, expectations, disappointments..... it's no wonder the holidays are alcohol induced.
I am not a person that needs gifts at the holidays. I would rather have a nice home cooked meal with others and enjoy ours or their decorated home while visiting.
My joy comes from the decorations in our home as they tell a story throughout many past Christmas years.
Enjoy the "simplicity" of the holiday season.
AF last night🌲6 -
Feel like I have been slipping this month and drinking more than I should. Do not want to get back into the nasty state I was in 2020 and early 2021. So i believe recognizing this is going to help, and its my decision that I need to stand by, but the struggle is real. I am getting back to the "I want a drink to wrap up the day" mentality again and the control after the second drink has gone to next to zero. Anyway I am stepping it back up and plan to be alcohol free for 5-6 days a week for the rest of the year and continue that into the new year.8

@Lilylady3k
Thanks for the pictures.
I especially like the dog : - ) I can imagine it getting going and slip sliding all over that shiny floor : - )3 -
@dethstar77
I find that checking in here daily really helps.
Glad to see you posting and being mindful of not slipping back into old habits, really too easy to do!5 -

AF yesterday and feeling a bit like the Grinch. Busy with my Santa side-job. Really wish my family would just agree to an outing and go make a snowman somewhere and let's forget presents we don't need. I have a group of 30 year-olds that come with boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, their extended family. It's getting complicated and my money is all gone.
ALL I WANT TO DO IS RUN AWAY AND PLAY IN THE SNOW. I REALLY WANT A SLED AND A WEEKEND IN MOUNTAIN CABIN AND THAT'S IT. Rich, hot chocolate and marshmallows maybe. This is AF but stressed out Santa Momma talking...
Hugs for everyone who is going thru a challenging month. We always have the choice to elevate ourselves, I tell myself, when I start to feel like negative emotions are pushing me around. Gotta be the boss of me.....7 -
Bit out for a day or so....
I am still able to stick with 1 drink in the evening, should I want it. Last night I did and I truly stuck to just one.
Ah yes it is stressful for many this time of year. I try to remain positive and upbeat. Like a lot of you I don't want or need a gift, just give me family, a home cooked meal and time to play card/board games. These are the things I cherish. You can always buy a gift but you can't replace family and friend time.
My In-laws are in there 90's and we just learned my FIL fell last night, so we are driving up to go check on them. It is an hour drive and traffic is always a nightmare. Those of you who have to travel through a large city know what I mean, even with the interstate. I hope and pray that it is nothing serious.
I will keep you up dated.8 -
Oh no, @lmlmrn! Drive safe and I hope everything's ok. A serious situation is something no one needs this time of year. Hoping for the best (traffic and FIL).
I'm right where you are, @dethstar77. I really fell off my game this fall with several trips. One was
a 2 wk vacation; we had wine every night. Honestly, I felt like I was doing well not to drink at lunch too! DH did drink at lunch but it really slows me down so I did not. Now back in the saddle, I find myself wanting a little after dinner glass of something. WTH? I stopped weeknight drinking long ago. Kills me how easy it is to fall into that pattern. I'm sticking to it but it's sobering how easily I backslide and how much mental effort it takes to get back on track.
DD#3 returns this afternoon. DD#2 returns tomorrow. DD#1 is local and her last day of class is Friday. We're making the steamer bucket my brother sent for our birthdays Saturday. It looks so fun! topsailsteamer.com Lots more celebrating to go.6 -

Girl, hop on a plane. I'll getcha snowy : - )4 -
@ahoy_m8
Totally agree about how easy it is to slip back into drinking every day.
My motivation is silly really. I cut back on drinking to lose weight.
I have.
One of my friends has a glass of wine after work each day. She is not fat, so why not?
That was how I was, having a drink after work every day. Never to excess.
I had the heebie jeebies my first AF day November 28, 2018, I had been so in the habit. It really did relax me.
I had gotten so fat over the 10 year course of perio, meno etc. It was time to shed some greasy pounds. I joined MFP in October of 2018, a month prior to aiming for 1 AF day per week. Once I started cutting back on alcohol, (gradually getting to 2 AF days per week, then 3 etc.) I began to lose weight.
Drinking makes me fat. Not to mention bloated face, bloated belly.
I have no desire to ever stop enjoying cocktails. I used to really enjoy wine, put on tastings, go to tastings etc., but now I am sort of allergic to it.
Winter here includes many hot alcohol drinks: Specialty coffees, specialty teas, hot cider, buttered rum, specialty cocoa, heated liqueurs and brandys, and on and on. I will have them all. Responsibly of course lol.6 -

I have a small bottle of Prosecco (we can't usually buy that here) that I may take to my pedicure Friday (I know, so great to be able to have an appointment so close to the holidays!) or have after my pedicure when I get home where I will be trying not to mess up my polish. I will put a flute in the freezer before work in the morning. I will take photos of where I get my pamper on and post here.

Almost to my monthly goal and currently double the AF days over A days! Skipped drinking at every party ... whew! The next planned drink is Christmas Eve with the family. I might enjoy something this weekend but that is TBD.

Hey all thank you for you support with my FIL. Update is is doing fine but that man is so stubborn I want to ring his neck at times.
I have been great about about if I want a drink in the evening I keep it to one. I am shocked at how it really has not tempted me to go back for more. However I do wait until late in the evening (8:30-9ishpm) before pouring and I am usually in bed by 10pm.
I am still on the hunt for my Christmas decorations. I think the elves took them from me6 -
I don't know if this thread is still alive. I am just in awe of how many calories I intake for the day. It is more than half of what I should use. Sad, scary, embARRASING and then some4

Yes the home belongs to a young couple in their early 30s (~32). I was blown away because I was not expecting a very modern high end home. The entrance, living, kitchen, dining and tv room were all open plan (no walls flowing across the entire down stairs) with multiple sitting areas. Cleaning LOL I'm sure they have someone that cleans it for them.2 -
It's Friday and after an AF week, I wake up thinking it would be fun to drink this weekend....because the holidays are coming and I should be having fun. And I've been "good" all week so I deserve it. Hmmm...then my logical brain says "wait stupid, do you really want to get started early and weaken your immune system"? You'll just eat more and get fatter by New Year's. Logical brain is right.
Why is my wine devil back? Ugh!!!4 -

Thursday December 16 - AF - Really felt like having a couple, had to use some willpower. I pretty much log in here in the morning while posting my weight and stuff on other forums. I couldn't find the small prosecco that I bought, so bought another last night after work. It is in the fridge now and the flute is in the freezer. I have some nice cheese and crackers to go with it. TGIF.

Just checking in
weight is down a bit this week so yeah. Again last night I made the decision to have one drink that turned into two. I was mindful of it and I am keeping accurate records. Baby steps for me.
Nothing new on the FIL front. I do wish they would let us get them cell phones. This way if they are out walking and one falls at least they can call for help.
Thank you all again for the support6 -
@lmlmrn Glad to hear the diagnosis is hard headedness. But sorry for the scare. Cell phones are indeed a good safety measure idea. Hopefully you can make baby steps with them on that front as well.
@dawnbgethealthy Thank you for commenting on the falling into old patterns bit. Funny, later that evening DH walked in lamenting the exact same thing in reference to falling off his exercise regimen. He feels sluggish and low energy and can't find the will to get up early in the morning but yet knows he feels energetic when he sticks to his plan. I encouraged baby steps. I mean, any effort is better than no effort, and so what if you're not running at the same pace or lifting the same weight as before the break? That happens. Just start small and mentally manageable until you hit your groove. I'm not sure the encouragement helped. Last night when we were decorating the tree he asked if I wanted to start my weekend early (code for a glass of wine). I confessed I've been wanting a glass of wine every night this week but I made it this far so I can wait until Friday. He had a glass of spirits anyway.
At the other end of the spectrum is @Lilylady3k and her DH. You guys are in an impressive groove. Good on ya!
I agree- TGIF! We're having a birthday crab boil with all our daughters (and maybe guests) tomorrow. It's nice having everyone home again. Hope we can keep each other covid safe. Two ZTA's who live in the ZTA house tested positive today, so DD#3 (who also lives in the house) got a PCR this morning. She's isolating until she gets the result. She's been home 48 hours and we haven't been distancing, so all our plans go out the window if she's positive. DD#2 tested negative yesterday and she's with my mom right now, and even that makes me really nervous. I wish they would wait for DD#3's result. Different topic for a different thread. Stay safe, everyone!
