Less Alcohol ~ DECEMBER 2021 ~ One Day At A Time

Just checking in
weight is down a bit this week so yeah. Again last night I made the decision to have one drink that turned into two. I was mindful of it and I am keeping accurate records. Baby steps for me.
Nothing new on the FIL front. I do wish they would let us get them cell phones. This way if they are out walking and one falls at least they can call for help.
Thank you all again for the support
We got my mom an Apple Watch which is connected to her iPhone. I got an alert when she fell ... since she lives alone in a remote area I almost feel it is a necessity. Now if she will just make sure it is charged and wear it all the time we would be good. Her iPhone has also alerted us when she fell another time.
Good luck with the hard headiness!4 -
Wine this evening with chicken sausage gumbo and my sister visiting.
I'm now wondering if the spell is broken. We will see this weekend.
December accountability: 10/17 days AF
Alcohol: 7 days (15 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.3 -
Today was my second non AF day. I had a martini and we had some red wine with dinner. Thus far for the month I'm AF 15/17 days. Planning for a drink or two tomorrow evening since we're going out for dinner. I plan to be AF Sun-Thu.

Snow on the way, they say. Can't stop it, so might as well embrace the beauty it will cover brown grass and empty gardens.
@lmlmrn how awful your FIL fell, I hope he is not badly hurt.. And they have no ( don't want) cell phones? YIKES! Is it because they are remote where they live?
I have sent out a little vibe your way so you'll find your Christmas decorations. Big hugs
@globalhiker I am feeling for you this holiday season. It really sounds like you need a get a way to do something for yourself ❣
@tufntender LOL YES we are definitely alive with this thread. Welcome!
Just in case you haven't seen, we have an informative into on the first page of this and every monthly thread. Check.it out.
My first thoughts are always make this simple for your own needs to drink less. No one is the same when traveling this road.
And yes holidays do not help.
We are here every day 24/7.

Where others have the wine devil on their shoulder. I have the cracker and cheese devil sitting on mine lately.
So many tempting cheeses and I snacked on them,
OK, LIE....I stuffed them as quickly as possible in my face. Cracker crumbs everywhere and woke up with brie in my hair. LOL this the season

Hi : - )
Going for my usual goal of 16-20 AF days, Diary style
Friday December 17 - Drinks. Prosecco and cheese followed by Beef Vindaloo, chicken pakora, and another drink.
Rolling Total: 12AF days out of 17 days.2 -
I don't know if this is a good brand or not, I have never found Prosecco before. It tasted great.
Oh. Hi. Why, yes, I am getting a pedicure in here. Thanks for looking at me.
A baby who appears to be smiling, and the view out of one of the windows when I am sitting with my feet in the whirlpool:

My inlaws live in the middle of Seattle, no country living for them! All concrete sidewalks, residential homes and scores of small business surround them. Not to mention the traffic.
So last night I waited again and did have a drink, my weight is still slowly coming off so I feel pretty good about it. But I also got up early and worked out 5 days this week. Today is a rest day and my muscles are telling ...yes it is time to give us a break (squats and deadlifts kill your gluts).
Today I am determined to finally go find my Christmas decorations LOL. But if I can't find them and have to start all over again, well there are the after Christmas sales to look forward too.
@dawnbgethealthy Love your pictures! We may get snow next week but more likely it will be freezing rain booo.
5 -
@MissMay No judgement here! I also have a weakness for cheese and crackers!
@dawnbgethealthy Ohhhhhh, I love those pictures! It's stormy here today, but the temp is supposed to drop into the 60s. Hoodie weather is coming!
I ended up having to work until 11:00-ish last night, so I had two glasses of wine to unclench my jaw (technically, it was one glass, but who am I kidding? It was a large pour!). Today I am playing nursemaid to a feral cat and hoping to find the time to do my workout.
14/17 days AF and I don't plan to indulge again until I get to the airport on Tuesday!4 -
@dawnbgethealthy - What a view and cutie pie to share you experience with ... I want a pedicure up there instead of here in Houston!
@MissMay - cheese is my absolute favorite snack! I love going to Central Market that a has a huge room of different cheeses to choose from. Enjoy!
@lmlmrn - I finally got my last decoration up ... a wreath for the porch. It is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! I hope that you find some Christmas spirit that will cheer you. So sorry to hear about your FIL ... how is he doing?
@Mouse_Potato - A pour is a pour in my personal humble opinion. I'm not here to count your ounces. LOL Wish that it was a happy occasion instead of stressful when you tried to enjoy the wine.3 -
Ok so we were out and about today, weather is dark, grey, raining and windy. We found ourselves in the nearby downtown area. When we found the closest weight watcher store. Haha. If you have never eaten Almond Roca you know what I mean. We stopped in their outlet store just outside the factory. I have been inside and watched how it is made. It is pretty amazing.
Of course I had to have one of the tote bags to add to my grocery recycle bags LOL8 -
I remember when I was growing up that the adults had a thing about almond roca. I haven't had any in years. Probably the only one that would interest me today is the dark.
So now that we are 18 days into the month I've been AF 15 of 18 days. Probably a record at least in recent times. Yesterday I had a dirty martini and some wine with our pasta dinner. Today we went out for pizza and I had an espresso martini (delicious). I will be AF again starting tomorrow through Wed.
I'm another one that loves cheese. And charcuterie. After dinner we went to Sprouts and they had a nice selection of meat including Spanish chorizo. We're planning a charcuterie board for Christmas Eve dinner. I buy gluten free crackers and these days there is an excellent selection. Blue diamond multi seed ones are my favorite.

Hi all! Just catching up after not checking this thread for two weeks.
@ahoy_m8 happy belated birthday!
@lmlmrn sorry to hear about your FIL- and that he’s totally stubborn. What is it about men from that generation? My dad was the exact same way- and a horrible patient!
@Mouse_Potato I’m so sorry for your loss. Amazing how grief sneaks up on you years after the fact, and it comes as being cranky and unsettled instead of the expected sadness and tears.
I had fun last weekend, but my planned two turned into three drinks every day, and I was so hungover when I got home on Sunday. I just stopped counting the drinks since then. I’ve had a drink almost every night since then, sometimes two, and I’m sleeping terribly. I’m right there with ya @dethstar77 ! Being off plan stinks.
Meanwhile, Christmas is a week away, I still haven’t finished decorating the house. I’m just about done with shopping, but what to get my friends at work? I don’t bake, everyone at work is really healthy so even if I did, kinda weird to give cookies to a bunch of personal trainers! I just want to give something small and thoughtful, but I’m at a loss.
I’ve also been digging out of long overdue paperwork, budgeting, etc. I can’t get Christmas done until my house is in order.
It makes me sad because this is supposed to be the happiest time of year, and yet 9 times out of 10 I am not enjoying the impending birth of Christ, I’m struggling with to-do lists that being me no joy. This is not what it’s all about! Yet I have this weird feeling of ennui , just blah, slogging through. I hate that, and I know it’s not the point of Christmas. Why can’t I focus on the “reason for the season?” I’m so ashamed of that!
DH and I are going to finish up the house today (nothing crazy, trust me!) hopefully pretty decorations will get me in the holiday mood. We just got our tree yesterday, and it would be nice to at least get the lights in before my kids come home tomorrow.
I just have to start over today with eating nutritious food and cutting way back in alcohol. It goes down so easily!
Thank you for listening to my rant! Therapy session over.6 -
You all give me a such a mood lift! Thank you, I need that! Deer pictures.....and reading about my favorite dishes! Gumbo and crab boil and vindaloo and then of course...chocolate and cheese!!
14 days AF, 4 days A....what happened on Friday was I knew in advance that my mood wasn't ideal and I had Prosecco...surely not as good as @dawnbgethealthy's organic one.
Saturday, you did not hear from me because I felt poisoned and not feeling good . I got that "champagne" hangover.
80% of my shopping work is done. Almost there then I can focus on FOOD. Oh, and that trip to Total Wine is getting intentionally pushed to the very last second....like Christmas Eve.....otherwise, I am apt to forget and load up the cart with all those little cute bottles that are $3 by the checkout area.2 -
@Womona - what about making mini-quiches in a nonstick pan - like a muffin pan? You can make different kinds and add spinach and red bell pepper so the look has green and red specks... very holiday-ish. And anyone into working out loves eggs. I'd make one tray with sausage bits in it and one with vegs. I'll bet the "healthy" people will hit the sausage ones first .
My other go-to is just boiling 2 lbs x-large shrimp and making a shrimp cocktail platter.
Enjoy!2 -

Friday December 17 - Drinks. Prosecco and cheese followed by Beef Vindaloo, chicken pakora, and another drink.
Saturday December 18 - AF. I had an awesome time shoveling and stuff, felt like having a drink afterward (cocoa with bailey's and grand marnier) but resisted because I didn't want to be puffy for the holiday party that begins at 9pm Sunday night.
Rolling Total: 13AF days out of 18 days.2 -
Had some gals over late yesterday for a holiday get together and combo paint party.
Lots of fun.
YES we made and drank mango mimosas and had cheese and crackers.
Then it started to snow while we were painting.
Ended up with 6" of fluffy snow.
This was my creation a 12" in diameter paint pour snowflake.

@lmlmrn those pics of the roca are definitely making me hungry. They are so beautifully displayed.
@dawnbgethealthy incredible deer peeping pics. They look as docile as the ones in my yard.

@MissMay - The snowflake is beautiful! You art is beautiful. So talented.
I saw a fun art project painting ice with friends ... think it might be fun but the race would be on in Houston to finish before the ice melted!5 -

OMG that’s such a great idea! Thank you!3 -
Well, after church, a zoom call with family, and a super long and much needed nap today, I finally got my floors washed and some Christmas decorations up! Lights are on the tree, and we’ll put up the ornaments when the kids come home. A little more decorating tomorrow and I’m done. Yay!
No alcohol for me tonight either. Double yay! Finally.5 -
Good eve
1. @MissMay thank you so much for the Christmas vibe and I love love love the snowflake. Please add that to the gallery
2. I found my Christmas decorations. Sometimes DH can throw me off my game when he moves things and oops.....forgot to tell me 11 months ago.
So not much going on today at our household. I did get in a nap then the grind of the week starts at least through Wednesday. I have the holiday meals planned and most things bought. Need to wrap a few last minutes things.
Then I am going to start to look at travel plans for the spring. Just what I need a week away.4 -
Interesting! A Mocktail Box Mixology for non-alcoholic cocktails with everything needed to make that month's recipes.

15/19 days AF. I wasn't planning to drink last night, but one of my feral cats has been very sick and hadn't improved much since seeing the vet on Thursday. I couldn't get him back to the vet over the weekend and I was just consumed by worry that he would take a turn for the worst before our appointment this morning. I had a single (admittedly large) glass of wine strictly for the fuzziness.
Fortunately, he improved overnight, even jumping up on the bed at 3:00 AM to nap with me. This morning he has no fever, so they gave him a shot of B12 and told me to stay the course. No wine tonight!
Tomorrow will be another story. I am flying out to spend the holidays with my sister and her family. I am a nervous flyer to begin, so I will probably be half-drunk by the time I board. Once there, I have no illusions about staying sober. I will be 16/27 days by the time I get back.

Received a call this afternoon from a client I was with earlier in the day.
"Wanted you to know I just tested positive for COVID" she said.
Merry (blank) Chirstmas 😭
I'm having a drink

Another AF day (2 in a row!). Annoying day at work, is love a drink, ans even have enough calories for it, but I really need to get back to sleep I through them night again. Alcohol messes with that, so I’ll just not do it.
@Mouse_Potato glad the cat is feeling better. I can only imagine how worried you were. Good luck on the flight and on your trip. Don’t worry about being AF, being mindful about it is a big step forward.2 -
@MissMay Fingers crossed you don't get it.1
