Had a very busy week and I am tired. One luncheon on Monday and a birthday party for my friend of 24 years. She will be 90 but as sharp as can be any very fit. She is my idol.
Eyes are wonky tonight. Glad everyone is ok and not in the tornado path.

Beth, hugs! Those are some major changes. Pick out one beautiful decorative box to go with them to their new place for all those children's teeth. LOL.
My sister is back to stay another 10 days with my parents. She has decided to pull the wallpaper off Mama's bathroom. I had my granddaughter's dance program today, a morning/lunch working meeting tomorrow, hair appointment and United Methodist Women on Tuesday, and Wednesday is my day to host bridge here so will need to stay home and clean my own house. Needless to say my sister isn't happy with me, but it's a busy week. I also have a Zoom Thursday morning. She can have Thursday afternoon and all day Friday, but maybe she'll have it done by then. Let's hope so.

My lunch walk. Gorgeous day ... a hint of summer.

Today is the deadline for paying the balance on our March cruise. I will try to get through on the phone at 9 am. The Omicron variant has thrown everything up in the air and who knows what will be happening by March. I did sleep last night, but the previous night I was awake a lot.
I am almost 100% sure the money is safe, but if the company went bust, it would take a while to get it back.
Beth - I'm glad something is getting resolved. Once they are settled it will be less worry for you, But what a lot of work! (((HUGS)))

Accountability:Chose well: 19 mins wii, BP, livestream church, endowment committee mtg FaceTime.
Bonus: emailed hymns, Crissey field with Joe and the dogs, veg prep.
Just one thing:
Do good December
12: Be generous. Feed someone with food, love or kindness today. Fed Joe with thanks
13: See how many people you can smile at today. Joe, T and C=3.
Joe took the dogs and me to Crissey field this morning. Way better than down to the powerline and mostly during a break in the rain. Win win win!
Just skimmin’ as it’s late and I’m sleepy, but Oh Margaret, thankful that little girl spoke up and her father LISTENED.
And ((hugs)) to Beth. As enormous as the task is facing you all, what a relief your mom will be safe and your dad get the care he needs.
Lighter, lovelies!

Beth - So glad y'all found the right place for your parents, hope the transition is smooth and relatively easy.
Barbara AHMOD - Good for Joe! Glad it was a lovely walk.
Pip - Baby Yogi! What a sweetheart.
Machka - Love seeing the green trees on your walk - we're at the end of fall, not quite winter stage where all the trees are already bare. I always miss them, but spring's just around the corner. Thank you for letting us see your life in pictures.
Katiebug - Who pulls wallpaper off bathroom walls when Christmas is less than two weeks off? Your week sounds busy-busy.
Katla - So glad you are able now to find the group of us again. You were missed when you were traveling. The ship's parade sounds absolutely wonderful, glad you're home safe and sound.
Allie - So glad you had a good time with your friends! I tend to dread any event like that, but once I'm there I end up enjoying myself.
More in a minute.

Got a little Christmas present for myself today.
New glasses ... teal titanium
Previous glasses, taken a year ago ... bronze titanium

Machka - LOVE the new glasses! Gosh your office is bright! Not sure I could cope with that. At home I'm always turning the lights down and DH likes it brighter.
I got through to Saga quite easily. I rang on the dot of 9 when it opened. Long discussion. We have agreed to postpone the payment of the balance until the 3rd January. That gives everyone, including the cruise companies, time to assess the situation. Then we will decide what to do, or they will have decided they can't go ahead on the same conditions. One condition is being able to go ashore as individuals, not only on guided tours.
I feel we have gained a breather and will keep an eye on the news.
Phew! I hate having those conversations, but I'm quite good at them. I had a list, agreed with DH before hand, on what questions to ask and in what our order of priority our actions would be.
Cleaner today.

It actually doesn't seem that bright in there ... the area in front of me is darker.
I don't mind it being bright during the day, but I like the lights dimmed at night.
It's good that Saga is delaying the final payment. The world is still in uncertainty.

Good morning, afternoon and evening, all,
Making Corey's lunch and getting him out the door to work as smoothly as possible brings up echoes of my mother's morning routine, which I just realized. TMI in the spoiler. My mother would deliver four or five cups of coffee to my father when he bellowed from the bathroom. It was actually how she got him to kick her out. It's TMI, I know, but she told me once that she would wait until he was in the middle of pooping and when he shouted for more coffee, she'd tell him to get up and get it himself. Combined with other annoyances, it was risky but effective, all-in-all. He made her get out of the truck on the way to work, five miles from anything. That was mid-August of 1977, and she had her first heart attack the next day but pulled through it. We had her for another 22 years, and she's been gone for 22 years now. Losing her was what told me I could survive--I will always be grateful for having her in my life.
Don't actually know why those memories are surfacing this morning. Possibly because Christmas is looming. For most of those years when I was moving from place to place, first as a sergeant in the US Air Force, and then as the dependent wife of a sergeant, I tried my best to never be home at Christmas.
Why? Because the word "toxic" doesn't even begin to describe the few Christmases I was semi-forced to attend. My mother had a six-inch tall trophy of half a horse, specifically the north end of a south-bound horse, which was awarded to the family member that was a complete horse's a$s that particular year. There was always one. Indeed with her seven grown children, 17 grandchildren, and innumerable, ever-changing crowds of in-laws, there were plenty of candidates.
Now that I've left you with that lovely thought, I'll go do something that could be construed as productive if you tilt your head to the right and squint.
Love y'all,

Tomorrow ... I've got 5 meetings. They start at 10:30 am with a double-booked one (I'll go to one at 10:30 - it's short, and then when it's done, I'll join the other in progress) and they end at 10 pm. There is actually a 6th in there I could attend if I've got the energy.
While a day of meetings doesn't really excite me, one thing it does do is to allow me to check off a whole bunch of things from my To Do list!
Meanwhile today I finally caught up on laundry ... first time in almost a month!

margaretturk wrote: »Rita I have story for your students how important it is to pay attention to your enviroment and to speak up if you see something is wrong. On Wednesday this week the church I go to caught fire. It was a six year old girl coming out of the school next door who noticed flames coming from the roof. Due to her observation and her father's quick action the fire did far less damage because it was caught quickly and no one was hurt in the fire. It had started in the roof by the library. We were able to have church today because it did not get to the sanctuary. They interviewed our pastor, and he was more concerned the effect this will have on the preschool that runs out of our building. Again because it was caught so quickly the impact will be far less. Even a child can save a life.
I will definitely tell the children this story today. Thank you for providing it!

Just a quick look at the lake. The storms that hit the midwest, woke the lake. The lake looks furious; but the surfers were happy! These photos were all taken from Grand Haven State Park by local amateur photographers.
talk to you all a bit later. ttfn xoxoxo KJ5 -
We are back from Fiji! We had a fabulous time. I have pictures on my phone that I will try to post later. I am tired, but not overly so. The warm weather was good for me, and the pool was soothing. Only 41 adults at the resort when we arrived, so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. By the end of the week, while I don't know the exact number, there were more people and felt more normal. Everyone did a great job abiding by the Covid precautions, so it felt very safe. Lots of people from Australia there. They said they aren't allowed to travel within Australia from state (province?) to state, but the government was fine with them going to Fiji. Didn't make a lot of sense to any of us talking about it, Fijian, Australian, or US. But it is what it is.
Katla -- we saw the Christmas boats as we flew into Portland last night, from the air. Even from above, the lights were spectacular.
I will try to get caught up. I am also officially off medical leave beginning today, so I need to start getting some work done. Working from home this month, so it will still be in a relaxed manner.
Everyone take care.

Hello and seasons' greetings to everyone here! I am still lurking about, mostly sliding backwards, but I keep attempting to stick to some kind of routine. While I do enjoy the ability to work from home, it has played havoc on my attempts at being healthy!
Weirdly gorgeous here today; we had snow Saturday and it will be in the 70s by Wednesday!
Hope you all have been well. Meg from Omaha9 -

I've been thinking about your sleep patterns. Do you sleep with Alfie? I wonder if his movements at night are waking you up. I know I don't sleep as well with my cat or dog with me. I wonder if you had him sleep in another room, your sleep might be less interrupted. You always seem to sleep better away from home than at home, which made me think Alfie could be the factor. Just a thought.

Flea- yes and no...he sleeps under the covers next to me and thats fine but I dont have much room in the bed lol
My bed is much softer than hotel beds I have stayed in..
But its very comforting to have my little guy snuggled up next to me.. will see if I can figure out some other way to work out the pillows so maybe i sleep in the middle of the bed and not on the edge3 -
Heather--Glad you had a nice visit. Very nice picture of DB and SIL. Love the pictures of Johnny and the grandchildren. They are lucky to have you as grand parents.
Evelyn--I agree it is different having the grandchildren when the parents are not there. I find they mind so much better because they know we mean business. I admit most the time I prefer that.
DH's appointment went well for the most part. They are saying with all this Covid being new they are trying different things for different people to see what works. Told us this could last for a year or longer. They did more blood tests and having him do cardiac rehab to see if that will build him back up. They do that at the hospital where I work and there is a gym for employees and spouse, so this morning I signed us up for that as can use that anytime. Maybe this will be good for both of us. Meanwhile Saturday evening we got a call that a friend had passed from Covid. She had not been sick only a couple days, her husband is in the hospital not doing well with Covid. I am so tried of this and all the bad news lately.
Katla--The Christmas ships sounds like a great event to watch. Glad you got to enjoy them this year.
Beth--Glad you found a place for your parents and that they can be together and get the care they need. Now comes the hard part of dealing with years of memories and what they cared about. Not an easy job.
KJ--I agree the lake does not look happy. Thanks for sharing
Meg--Great to see you post. How are things in Omaha? I know that little snow we got Friday night with the wind made driving really hard, could not see the road in front of us. We went to our Church Christmas party. Next day it was pretty much gone and not this week to be in 50-60's. Crazy weather all over.

Peach – I’ve missed everyone like crazy. Travel and spending time with our son, DDIL, grandson & new baby was wonderful.
Rebecca - The Wrought Iron Christmas tree is lovely. Wow!
(((Heather))) – Life does move along swiftly. Sorry for the loss of your long-ago lover.
Margaret - On our trip to see our son and his family in Virginia, we were routed through Minneapolis twice. There was snow on the ground in the countryside on our way home and many lakes to see. It was lovely.
Allie – I am delighted you were able to go out with your friends.
Pip - Santa Yogi is a cutie!
Machka - Your new glasses are wonderful. Your look great in them.
Lisa – You have managed to create a wonderful life for yourself and Corey. WTG!!!
Flea - Welcome home! I am happy for your trip.
Meg - Good to see you!
Allie – We bought a dog bed for our sweet dog and I set in next to my side of the bed. He liked it, and so did I. I still miss him like crazy. We will be looking for a pup in the coming year. You are a lucky pet owner to have such a sweet dog as Alfie to keep you company.

Katla - The death of my ex lover prompted me to get started on my next book. I wrote a paragraph of the intro this morning. All the people I want to write about are now dead. I think the title will be NOW I AM - out of the shadow. Or maybe - leaving the shadow. I will be feeling my way forward, very slowly. An adventure.
Picking up Bea tomorrow. Then back to their house for a spot of child minding until their mother emerges from her work shed.
Had a HUGE cauliflower, pea and leek frittata for dinner. Might be sleeping upstairs tonight.

Katla- yes its pretty, but way too much money! Next year I'm going to buy a pre-strung lit tree. Putting lights on our tree every year is tiresome, and I have places still void of light. During the day though, it looks nice! Lol!

Rebecca - Our daughter in law is a brilliant scavenger. She owned one amazing artificial tree that went from the main floor to the second floor ceiling. The staircase wrapped it just right. She found two additional trees that people were throwing or giving away. All three were beautifully decorated by her. I have a 1950’s aluminum tree that was my parents. I set it up once. Not planning to do it again. Last year I brought in a living Alberta Spruce. It was beautiful. I haven’t brought it in so far this year. I hope to avoid becoming a Grinch this year.1
