January 2022 Monthly Running Challenge

Another 2 miles today - just treadmill so boring but needs must.
I joined Run the World previously but I just kept forgetting to manually add my miles and it wouldn’t sync to my running watch so I gave up! Then with Run the Year I synced successfully but for both running and walking miles - think I’ll keep out of challenges this year as I’m too prone to messing it up! Good luck with it all - I’m sure you’ll be round the globe in no time! X

I did set it this way overall for the challenge. I know not everyone in the group (including me) is able to run or run all the time so I figured we could do both. I imagine these to be intentional walks that you might track with Strava or your Garmin but not just a casual neighborhood or park walk. It also had a category for virtual runs and my first thought was, virtual races so yes, but now I am not sure exactly what a virtual run would be... no you can not log the runs you think about in your head as a virtual run 😁6 -

OK great. Yes, just visualizing a run should probably not count . I record my dog walking time and hikes so purposeful walking definitely.

Yesterday 2-mile warmup on the treadmill because it was a) 14 degrees out, b) Monday, and c) the first day back after break, so I was not in the mood. Today was quite a bit warmer by the afternoon so I met a friend for a canal run just before dark. It was getting a bit slippery in spots as the sun was setting so I was glad to be done.4 -
@shanaber - I'm in Nickelsville, Virginia. Did you get my PayPal payment?
I am so happy and blessed to be out of town for work in Palm Beach, Florida. The weather has been highs of between 75F and 83F since I arrived on Sunday afternoon and sunny. Staying at a 5-star hotel on the beach which I could never afford if I were paying. At home it is below freezing and snowy. Sadly, I'm heading home tomorrow but grateful nonetheless for the nice break. I got in 7 miles before my first meeting yesterday and 6 miles today. I should have time for another run in the morning before catching a flight back home.7 -
January Goal: 100 Miles
1/1: 10.02 miles
1/4: 5.31 miles
15.33/100 miles completed for January
It was 32°F, feels like 24°F when I ran this morning. But it wasn't bad and even though I am not a fan of cold weather I got out and ran 5 miles. I even enjoyed it. 😊
@shanaber Did you get my PayPal payment and my location?
3 -
I have joined and sent my money via PayPal. I’ll contribute more miles this year with marathon training and my effort towards a run streak.
The last two days were not normal run days, so I did a mile after work each day.
January total: 14.65

@kgirlhart and @Teresa502 - I did receive your payments and locations! Thank you!
Yep, @marisap2010 I saw that you joined and received your payment as well! Thank you! I need your location though for the map.
Also we have made up almost all of the deficit and are now only 7 miles behind pace!6 -
@tamlyn1980 Welcome to the Group.
You have some NZ sisters ( running sisters that is ) in the group.

Hey @juliet3455 - want to join our Run the World 2022 group? We could use another fun place to visit and run (virtually)!!2

Morning all
Just a mile this morning on the treadmill to keep a streak going. My cat is quite poorly so had a dash to the vet last night and a sleepless night. He seems worse today so somehow need to squeeze in time to take him again. All a bit stressful so I’m keeping it brief.
Wish you all a great day.

Time standing still in my neck of the woods while I wait for the doctor to get back from his New Years break and interpret my echo. Until then all plans are on pause.
I did get a run in, managed 5k without a heart rate spike. Husband still wheezy, his cold is gone but his asthma is acting up because of the cold. We got snow here but not enough to be fun.
The snow was both funny and sad though, I have mentioned before the family of raccoons living in the storeroom, who we have gotten to know quite well throughout covid isolation. There is a mother and five babies who are full sized now. Well, this would be the first time they have ever seen snow! I went out just at dusk to see if I could spot them heading out for the evening, and they were standing in the yard lifting one paw at a time and whoodling! Raccoons make a funny little whistle/whimper noise when they want another raccoon to stop biting them, or their mother to come rescue them, or similarly any time they are upset and need attention. So they were shaking their paws saying, “Help! The ground got all white and uncomfy! Make it stop!” Then they turned around and ran back into the storeroom, and played inside all night! Paint buckets were rolled around, and a lot of noise was made. But they never did come back out into the cold.9 -

Upper 30s F this morning with angry clouds and a gusty wind. Yesterday's joyful run turned into today's slog. But I did listen to my brain and adjusted to the shorter distance.9 -
Jan total: 25.1/80 miles

Sleasy trail run this morning. It was in the upper 40’s when I went out. After our near summer temps not long ago, I am still relishing every day where it is cool out. Saw my trail friend and Hank the dog.
You can tell it is January in my neighborhood. On my usual morning runs, I see maybe a couple of other runners and a couple of walkers and it’s the same people every morning. Today, I saw 4 other runners and yesterday I saw several runners while I was out. This happens every year. January resolutions bring everyone out and by February most have dropped off. I wish the resolution runners the best and hope they stick it out. It was hard work to build the habit but now I can’t imaging stopping! Even when I take breaks for post-race recovery or vacation, after a week or so I am itching to get back out.8 -
It's that time of year. Dreadmill Time.4

The run on New Year's Day was yuck, which was probably why I cut it short and went home. Today's was much better. The first 2km were pretty much a crawl, but around 20 minutes in my body suddenly looked at me and exclaimed, "We're running? Well why didn't you tell me so?!" Things went better after that.
I've decided to take a low pressure approach to things, despite my watch insisting that my training status is meh. If I only feel like running every four or five days right now then so be it. I'm sure I'll be back in it by the time summer swings around (hopefully the heat won't make me want to give up again). Trusting the process or whatever this is.
@juliet3455 I don't think I've ever experienced those temps in my life. Yikes.
@Faebert So sorry to hear about cat. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.
@rheddmobile Thanks for the raccoon update! It's always great to hear about them.5 -

Overslept a little this morning so had to cut my run short to get into the office.
@Teresa502 you are very lucky. Hopefully the snow will not an issue, by the time you get home.
@Faebert hope your cat is okay.
@rheddmobile you really need a break, hopefully 2022 will be nicer to you. Sweet about the raccoons.
@juliet3455 I shivered just reading those temperatures.
@noblesheep glad your run was better today

20.59/100 miles completed for January
It was another cold 5 mile run this morning. Not @juliet3455 cold, but Texas cold. It was actually a little warmer than yesterday and I took off my outer layer of sleeves about 3 miles in. Wearing 2 pairs of sleeves is definitely easier for me than wearing a jacket. It's too much of a hassle to take off my jacket when I am wearing my Noxgear vest.
@faebert I hope the kitty will be alright.
@rheddmobile I love hearing about your racoon family.
4 -
@Faebert - I am so sorry about your kitty! Hope it is ok and that you got some rest.
@juliet3455 - I can't even imagine weather that cold! Pretty sure my CA cold is warm tank top weather for you!
@rheddmobile - love hearing about your raccoon adventures! How long will the grown babies stay with their mom? Also is your albino baby still hanging around too? Hope you hear from the cardiologist soon!
We have 13 people signed up for Run the World. If it looks like no one else is joining I will go ahead and set up the map tonight.4 -
Hey @juliet3455 - want to join our Run the World 2022 group? We could use another fun place to visit and run (virtually)!!
@shanaber Well I had all of about 300km last year - to many niggle injuries due to the loss of my Foundation Exercise - Swimming - due to the Covid pool limits and schedule conflicts.
Didn't realize that Swimming was the Foundation of my Fitness until I lost the pool.
Sure I will join up - maybe the motivation that I need to get back on track.
Will check into it tonight when I get home from work and have access to my PC.
Although I'm not sure many will want to do a run - even virtually in my neck of the woods right now.
-59C ( at this temp F and C are the same ) windchill for tomorrow - at these temps they close a lot of schools for the safety of the students who have to travel - but leave the exterior doors open as an emergency refuge with minimum staff on site. Most Public Facilities ( Libraries, Recreation Centers etc ) also close except as emergency refuge. Who would want to go swimming at these temps?
A unique thing that happens is your vehicle tire has a flat spot on the bottom - ground contact point and it stays in this shape for a while as you drive so when you first start driving you need to go very slow to prevent a tire failure.@juliet3455 - I can't even imagine weather that cold! Pretty sure my CA cold is warm tank top weather for you!
That's why you can always tell who the Canadians are at the Beach's - albino white bodies sun bathing on the beach when everyone else is in heavy coats.7 -
Alright I'll join @Shanaber I live in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, Poland. Or you could put my favorite mountain, Klimczok (in the Silesian Beskids) if you prefer. Or both, whatever works. I'm working on PayPal. Got an account I can access now, but will have to try again with my American debit card when I get home in a few days. We made it to the conference, it's snowing a little bit, but too dark to see the mountains when we arrived. I have a plan and clothes laid out for a hike in the afternoon during free time. I hope I have enough time.8
-
@rheddmobile sorry you are still waiting and not able to do things. The raccoon description is fantastic. Love the word "whoodling".
@juliet3455 great to see you back. Stay safe in those extreme temps.
@polskagirl01 hope you have a good conference and have time to get out and hike!

I overdressed a little today thinking it was a lot colder than it was at almost 40 degrees. Uneventful but enjoyable neighborhood street run.7 -
@juliet3455 those are some freaky cold temps! There would be body parts breaking off of me if I had to get out in that 😉
7 miles this evening. It was just meh. Neither shin stopped hurting during the entire run.
6 -
@shanaber, Sorry I forgot to give my location - Macon, GA. You may have already set the map though.
@rheddmobile, so cute about the raccoons!
@juliet3455, those temps are insane! I was just contemplating whether I want to deal with 37F, not even negative temps like you!3 -
Hello all, I will be joining you all belatedly on Monday. I am self-isolating as I am Covid positive, but I become free to roam again on Monday 10th Jan. My target for what remains of January will be 100 miles.
Do we post our runs daily? Weekly? Trying to create a ticker fried my brain, so I'm just going to post here!7 -
"Keepin' it sleasy since 1952"
1-1 7k sleasy
1-2 7k sleasy
1-3 rest
1-4 7k sleasy
1-5 4k slow
1-6 4k treadmill
January Total: 29k
January Goal: 140k
"Rest" day today, but since I cut it short yesterday, just did 4k on the treadmill to make up for what I lost. It was 20 F with a light snow, so was not disappointed to stay inside.
@Orsolla Welcome!! Posting frequency is purely an individual thing. I only post daily 'cause MFP tracks consecutive days logging in.5 -

Welcome @Orsolla. Sorry to hear you have COVID and hope you are recovering well. It's all up to you what and how you want to update. Many of us post daily, some less often. You can keep a running tally and post it or just say what you did that day. It's a group that likes to chat and support each other, no specific rules for participation. Just jump in and let us know how it's going for you when you can!6 -
January goal 168.5 for Run the Year 2022

We have our first snow storm expected tonight, should be fun! As much as I dislike the treadmill, I'm glad I have it.4 -
