We attended a small town rodeo this afternoon. It was wonderful. Ole fashioned presenting of the flags, national anthem and a public prayer. Mostly High School and young adults competing (in the sprinkling rain) There were the funnies like trying to milk the cow (who was having non of it), a chariot race. Just fun. Then we went out for chinner and a beer3 -

Last night I had two glasses of wine, plus a bunch of sips of really good bourbon. That plus pizza. I was up half the night, and it shows in my face this morning, plus being puffy from all the pizza. At least I was doing well with the veggies and hummus and the rest of my eating earlier in the day.
Maybe third time is a charm…. Playing nine holes with friends who are big drinkers, then having dinch. So, the plan is to NOT order a drink for the golf cart (maybe one or two sips from my husband’s, and only order one glass of wine at dinner. Key is to not have that second glass when I get home! If I can do that, it will be a success for me. Then I start AF M-Wed.5 -
Starting a new week AF - hoping to have another great week. I tried "Curious Elixir" mocktails last week and enjoyed them a lot. Number 2 was my favorite.3

I joined this thread in November 2018. I had my first AF day soon thereafter. It was hard! I stayed with one AF day per week for awhile and then gradually increased that.
I will continue on with what has been attainable for me, 16-20 AF days per month. So trying to keep it to 3A days per week or less.
I am drinking less for weight loss. 20 more pounds to shed still.
Diary Style
Wednesday June 01 - AF - Planning AF for Thursday. No plan for the weekend just yet.
Thursday June 02 - AF - Reluctantly. I worked very hard in my yard before and after work, putting in many hours. I really really felt like having drinks, but I guess that I say that pretty much every day. Planning drinks Friday night after my hair dying appointment.
Friday June 03 - 2 drinks. Might have drinks Saturday.
Saturday June 04 - 3 drinks. The smallest bottle of Prosecco that I can get is 300ml. I wish that I could get it in the 150ml bottles like I can the Henkell. I really only always want one glass of it, but it is too expensive to not drink the second.

I so totally relate to what you are saying @Womona. If I even dare to have soup and I love soup, the sodium in it will add on 5 lbs. My physiology is off. My kids tell me I am just finally getting old and I am lucky I got this far. I feel like PMS for the past 4 months. It's not fair.
The stress level here is mega-high with husband knowing my 2 kids with their "spouses" and "pet" children are sleeping over my house and they stay up late. One comes with a large barking dog. It's not going to sit well with our baby quail (we have about 15) and bunnies in the backyard. Or with my neighbors. Kids like to raid my pantry and husband's beer fridge. I choose not to worry. After all, I still have half a bag of Ghirardelli semi-sweet mini chocolate chips to get me thru the next couple of days.

Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.
6/1 - 2 glasses wine; DH returned to work after a month off and gave a 10 day notice retiring / resigning
6/2 - AF
6/3 - 2 wine
6/4 - 2 beers
6/5 - AF
Came home after the afternoon play with my sister and DH had opened a very nice bottle of wine that we've not had. When he poured his second glass I asked for one too. He said ... you complained about how many AF days (5) in May and told me you wanted to aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row. And Friday night you said you were not drinking Sunday night. So do you really want a glass of wine.
I ended up with Topo Chico carbonated mineral water instead6 -

What resolve you have! Not fair that they open a very good wine in front of you when they know that you are trying to cut back.

Third time was not a charm for me yesterday. Had a golf cart drink (at least it was only one shot, not the big double that was poured last time!), 1 wine at dinner and then another 1.5 when I came home. To paraphrase Meatloaf, “one out of three air bad”. It ain’t good either!
I paid for it today. I didn’t feel hungover but perhaps I was. I was just tired all day. Came home from work, wanted a glass of wine even though it’s supposed to be a dry day. Well, I really need to reign in the poundage, so instead I have club soda and cranberry out on my back patio, enjoying this beautiful summer night. Finally AF for a night! I’m also motivated by one our weight loss patients. She lost 8.5 pounds of fat just by cutting out alcohol!
I have a tennis match on Wednesday, and I want to win it, so that’s my motivation for no drinks tomorrow night too. I’m going to bed early, I’m exhausted!6 -

Monday June 06 - AF - That was quite a struggle to stay AF. It was raining when I got off of work, but really wanted to get my onions in (so far behind on everything due to the eye injury) and a bunch of other things planted so got my gardening clothes on and went out. I only got 2 rows in when it started hailing! I ran to my shed where I found a cigarette..but no lighter lol. I didn't have time to cover the peppers. I went in the house and was pulling all sorts of stuff out to the counter, like Brandy, Bailey's, a nice glass etc. The plan was to go have a nice drinkie on the covered porch. I resisted for 6 minutes and then another 6 minutes. Then my bestie that moved away messaged and was like "let's have a drink together over the phone". Argh. We did have a really good catch up, we hadn't spoken in quite awhile. She has since been moving into her new house that she bought over in New Brunswick. Glad that I managed to resist. Sticking to AF until Thursday.

Hey to all the AF's here and wanna be's (that's my category) happy Tuesday,,,,,taco tuesday?....oh not at my house. Tonight culanary adventure is frozen tortellini with home made sauce and garlic bread. Provided I can find some sort of roll around here, it may be sliced garlic bread.
So DH went into Costco ..again.. to purchase food for storage, He is preparing for the worst (it can be exhausting keeping up with this) Anyway so he comes home with canned roast beef and pink salmon. How am I suppose to make something edible with these items?
I am open to trying all kinds of things please chime in!. I have worked out the canned chicken breast and tuna....I know I can mix the beef with noodles. The salmon??? I live in salmon country to eat it out of a can is almost sacrilegious. The salmon season is just getting started.
I plan to be AF all this week. DH and I have decided we have been eating out too many meals and when we do that there is usually 2 beers involved. So we are resolved to only eat out one meal on Saturday or Sunday, but the catch is. WE have to both put names of places we enjoy then draw a name out of a hat to so speak and that is where we will go, either someplace we have seen or something new! I am excited4 -

God I love Meatloaf, GRHS.
Sad weekend here. Drove to STX to say goodbye to DH's uncle. He received a bad diagnosis only 2 months ago and opted for palliative vs. treatment so he could die at home. It's head-spinning how fast this has all happened, and it has been super stressful for MIL and DH's aunt. They all live together. It was good seeing everyone, and also DH's cousin who was in from HOU. And nice to be able to tell him we love him.
Last time we went down we had a really good time at a saloon in the nearest town with a hotel, which is where we stay. We threatened to go back but were just not in the mood after such a somber day. Instead, we walked to the Walmart across the parking lot and bought a bottle of wine and 2 glass wine glasses and drank it in our hotel room watching a program on the British royals. DH wanted to watch Goodfella's, which is a fine movie, but felt too dark under the circumstances. So much killing and death. Sunday we had a monkey bread breakfast, visited the cemetery where they just bought plots together, said goodbye and drove home. It was 97F when we got home, so instead of doing my regular exercise we drank margaritas by the pool. So kind of off plan on all the fronts on Sunday.
It's a fresh week and AF so far.5 -
@lmlmrn, we’ve gotten canned salmon before, treated it like canned tuna or canned chicken, and it makes for a yummy sandwich or topping for a salad. I’m with ya on canned salmon being an oddity - having lived in the Pacific Northwest and getting wild caught salmon for years, it seems wierd to have it in canned form. My bigger issue is that now I’m a total salmon snob- if it’s Atlantic farmed, I don’t eat it! Wild caught only for me! So much better! Yum!
@ahoy_m8 sorry to hear about your uncle in law’s passing. It is sobering to know how quickly an illness can take us all.3 -
AF last two nights, and even though I wanted a glass of wine, the feeling passed pretty quickly. Good on me, my weight whooshed down since not drinking these last couple of nights! Plus I have a tennis match this morning so I want to be sharp. Wish me luck!
So the challenge is to stay AF after I get home from work tonight. If I can stave off the craving, then I’ll have achieved half of my goal to be AF M-W.4 -

@Womona It is weird lol I am such a seafood snob. I don't eat any seafood that is not 'wild caught' Especially cod, shrimp and Salmon!4 -
Hi My Old Friends Drinking Less! I've missed y'all , but didn't really feel it was appropriate to hang around while I wasn't drinking. Today makes 1 year since my last drink, and I'd be lying if I said I don't feel like I deserve a nice glass of Rose! It's not off the table (or hidden in a chest drawer--yes I've done that)--I still have hopes after a year reset I can drink very occasionally, but I know I'll be fighting brain chemistry.
I've kept the weight off, and certainly have gotten stronger through more regular workouts and increasing protein intake. I'm enrolled in 2 (because I'm a masochist) coaching certification programs--one of which is functional wellness coaching (managing health through lifestyle changes rather than chronic disease meds) and am learning so much not only about the field, but what motivates people. While coaching emphasizes internal motivation and finding answers from within, it also encourages the power of community!
This is such a fabulously supportive community and so happy to see it still going strong! I don't yet know what I'm going to do with drinking, other than if I decide to moderate again, it needs to stay under a bottle a week (of wine, not hard stuff!) and if it starts creeping back into my daily thoughts, or I'm using it to cope or avoid conflict, then obviously I need to limit to a few times per year, if that. If anyone's interested in what a boozeless year is like for someone who was a daily wine drinker, PM me--happy to chat by IM or phone.9 -

Hi peeps. Hello to @mainelylisa for dropping by and your updates.
Well it happened. Who would have thought this kinda stuff drops out of the sky? We have a closing date on our house very soon. Someone sort of showed up on our doorstep a month ago wanting to know if we were selling our place and now we are starting to pack.
That is why i have been absent in here and most likely will only be posting occasionally until settled(sounds like a wagon train moment) some place.
Oh yes I have had a few "light" cocktails to shut off my brain from trying to organize and plan, while my body attempts to catch up on rest. Thing is I have one standard drink and it knocks me out. I am beyond THANKFUL for this. Knowing my limits now makes peace with myself.
Keep writing and checking in everyone, because I am still reading when I have time.

@MissMay - Exciting changes ahead in your life!! Are you planning to hit the road with the RV, find a rental or something else? Does this change your plans for you and DH to retire now instead of in the future?4

I'm happy with my cutting back progress so far, 1 on Jun 4, 2 last night and AF rest of the days. So 6/8 days AF, and no more than 2 on the days I did have something.
I have had a few AF margaritas with Ritual. It's growing on me as an option but isn't quite the same.
I also rejoined WW. For various reasons, I bounce between the two approaches. So not on here as much right now.

@MissMay Girl this is so exciting for you....the next chapter. I am so envious, I am still two years ahead of schedule for a move but you...you dove in and puff you are now a displaced, homeless, landscaper??? With a ton of canvases to pack?
So talking about changes! Did I mention my plumber/contractor AND my cabinet install both bailed on my last week? OR that I get a call today saying my cabinets will be ready on June 22, NOT early Sept? Sheesh now I have to step up my decision making (not a problem). Who to hire, when to hire, what/where to buy appliances, flooring, hardware etc. I will get through this!
One more contractor in tomorrow for estimate then I move forward the first of the week with decisions and spending LOL yikes talk about scary for me
Oh then there was the beer I had at chinner/dinch...took the edge off along with the nap so I am ready to bring it on3
